La Bella vita Food Calamari doesn't seem fully cooked I have never seen calamari so white and it was like a weird crunch to it not a regular squish when it comes to calamari won't order again no flavor to it. I work in NYC. Finding pizza that remotely compares around Phillipsburg is impossible. All the pizza spots here are pretty basic. I was shocked to find a place like this 5 minutes from my house. When you park in the back, there's a pile of chopped wood for the oven. Step out the car and you smell the burning wood scent. Right away, you know something special is happening here. Then you meet the staff. Super friendly and helpful. As for the food. 10 out of 10! Pizza is bangin'. The Steak sandwich has actual tender steak in it! The pasta, homemade! Had Chicken Franchese and it was soggy and pretty tasteless. Angel hair pasta was overcooked and mushy. Was going to give only 1-star for food but they refunded the cost of my dinner so service is 5-stars. I had asked waitstaff for just half the pasta as I didn't want to waste food, but was told it was already portioned and they couldn't change the amount. I said I'd still pay full price but just wanted less but was still told it was a No. Seems a shame to waste food. While shopping in the area we thought we'd try a local Italian restaurant that we had heard good things about. Upon arriving, we were asked if we wanted a high-top table but since those aren't my favorites, I asked for a normal table. I think that got us off on the wrong foot with the hostess. We ordered some drinks and they were brought promptly and were excellent. I saw She-crab bisque on the specials menu and started my order with that. Then I ordered the Eggplant Rollatini with angel hair pasta and my wife got the Penne Siciliana. The bisque was one of the best I've ever had. Very well seasoned with chunks of crab. Then the salads came and they were large and very fresh. Then we waited for our entrees. After sitting for about a half hour while our waitress took care of people at the bar, I asked the hostess about our food since the table next to us was already on their third course. The hostess argued with me that their food came out so fast because they were only having apps! They had soup, then a pizza, then their entrees. Nice try! Our entrees finally arrived and I think they were under a heat lamp so long the pasta was dried out and the sauce nearly gone. My Eggplant was tasty but also had sat too long. After two bites of my angel hair pasta, I had enough. Terrible. My wife's dish was also dried out and she finished about half. I'd come back for the bisque but only as take-out. This place is probably much better but unfortunately it just wasn't our night. read more

I have been to La Bella Via a few times and it's a nice place for smallish gatherings. The menu is huge with lots of different options and they can accommodate different food restrictions, however you must ask for clarity since menu does not state. The bathrooms are clean and the waitstaff friendly. The location is a little odd, it is right next to a busy road entrance. Using a GPS is highly recommended to get there. WiFi is not available unfortunately. In regards to the menu if you have any food restrictions let them know. Some of their items have ingredients you would not think of. For instance their Eggplant Parmesan has beef broth and their penne vodka the same. I would love to see these items labeled appropriately on their menu. Solid 4 stars, one star knocked for the not having items clearly marked for food restrictions and lack of WiFi. read more

We had our family Christmas gathering for the 2nd year at La Bella Via! Again it was wonderful! Consistent good food and service and parking on site. I took no food pictures because we were chatting... we ordered everything from burgers, pasta, chicken dishes - drinks and desert. The wait staff didn't miss a beat! Our entrees came with salad (or soup).I had the Caesar salad , and my fiancé had a garden salad. Both fresh, cold, and delicious. He had the eggplant rollatini( awesome) and I had the ravioli arribiatta, ( with sausage and spinach) holy yummmmm!!! The marinara sauce was incredible!! I never would have guessed from looking at this place that they would have homemade pasta. And, it is delicious. Seriously. Everything here was cooked and flavored to perfection. We had the crab cake appetizer (the best you will find outside of Baltimore!) and the pasta with scallops and shrimp. Yum. All of it was perfect. Solid place! This restaurant is a go-to for my husband and I. Food is delicious, staff is friendly and attentive. I particularly like this establishment because the food is made to order. I'm a vegetarian and therefore (obv) have dietary restrictions. Pretty much everything they make that has meat in it can be made without the meat or meat sauce. Serious options. They have a good marinara which I usually get with eggplant rollatini, stuffed shells, etc. pizzas and calzones are baked in the wood fired oven and always solid choices. They always bring out entrees w your choice of salad or soup and rolls. You can pick your choice of pasta to have served. You can tell they don't skimp on ingredients! On more than one occasion we have had the kind gentleman come out and ask if my vegetarian subbed dish was what I expected! The only itty bitty qualm I have is that the place can get super noisy! I usually come here on Sundays with my girlfriend. We order food to go and have a few drinks while we wait. It's definitely a family restaurant but the bar is stocked and the food isn't half bad. The owner recognized us after coming in only 3 times which is always nice. The bar is small so servers usually take care of the tables and the bar. The beer selection isn't half bad for a small place in Phillipsburg. Alagash, stone brewery and smutty nose are on the menu and evil genius on tap at the moment. The cocktail menu could use a little work but I think they're focus is more on the food. Pasta is made fresh in house and every pizza I've ordered has been on point. I've had no problem with service but I've only come on slow Sundays. Over all, I think 4 stars is accurate. read more

My family and friends had just gotten off the Polar express train ride looking for a place to grab a bite to eat before heading home. All 12 of us ( 6 adults 6 children ) didn't have a clue where to go. La Bella Via just happened to be on the way for all of us to head home so we stopped and tried it. We all had a little bit more than an hour ride home so didn't want to take to long. To accommodate us they had to setup tables and chairs which took about 10 minutes which wasn't to bad. They set us up in our own area which was great for the other patrons cause of the kids ( which by the way they were great and well behaved ). We started out with wings and calamari both were very tasty and came out very quickly. The children had pasta which was easy enough the adults ordered whatever they wanted. My wife had salmon and pasta which was very good and reasonably priced at 18.99$, I had eaten before so I just had an appetizer of clams and mussels very good. The staff was on point the whole time with drinks cleaning plates and whatever else we needed. If In the area again we would definitely go back, also plenty of parking. read more

I'm rating this place 1 1/2-stars only because I can't believe the dinner experience can be as bad as lunch. The food was bad. The calamari terrible, half cooked. We ordered the fries appetizer for the table, and the portion was about a 1/4 plate. The pizza options were just not good combinations of ingredients. I don't usually take points off for minor service issues, but La Bella Via went above and beyond to really change that. One of the worst service experiences in my life, including the server, manager, and kitchen. They weren't disrespectful, or unkind, just completely incompetent and error prone. Wrong drinks.
