Update after reading reply from Dan below Now it's personal especially you had to look up my last name. Lol. We never finished the birthday dessert, nor the chocolate mousse. And we never threatened to leave a negative review, we also could've never tipped more than 20% (more then the salad and dessert you deducted from our bill - what can I say, we liked the waiter) and walked away while still leaving a negative yet honest and fair review. The list goes on, regardless, this is my first time seeing an experienced business owner come at a customer so passive aggressively. On top of that you ruined Kintnersville as a town which we actually enjoyed for a getaway. Everything further confirms my comments about the experience and personality of the owner. I truly feel bad for anybody who works for him. Everybody else seems genuinely nice and hardworking. Background: the restaurant had a waiter walk out on them without advanced notice (which later was used a number of times as an explanation for what happened). Summary: beautiful setting and design. safe menu, nothing special, fixed menu not worth the price. We got to our designated table at 7:51pm. First incident - Our chairs were very dusty and dirty, and the hostess only came to wipe them down for us after I went downstairs to notify her (the waiters had been too busy to notice me standing for 7 minutes). The hostess upon cleaning the chairs mentioned that the stains were not dirt stains, but the were stains none-the-less and any restaurant should not have such stained chairs out for customers. Now the wait begins - We got seated at 8pm but didn't get our orders taken until around 8:10pm. Before our appetizer,we were brought two pieces of cold flatbread because of the wait time (pictured, no flavor). Appetizers (a caesar salad and ahi tuna poke mind you) were brought to the table at 8:48pm, almost 40 minutes later. The timing was actually so poor that the hostess came around after our appetizers were cleared from the table and asked us would we like our bill because it had already been that long (we then told her that we hadn't even received our entrees yet, lol). Entree came around 9:12pm (not bad). My friend had burger and fries, edible, nothing extraordinary, fries were at least crispy, no seasoning, below average. Dessert was the best part of it, still only about average. The free birthday dessert was really disappointing and we had it taken back from our table lol. Here's the fun part: Our waiter came to check on us and we decided to voice the concern with the management as we understand this is not the waiter's issue with the waiting and food. Manager/hostess as well as the owner Dan came over. We were trying to be understandable and nice while voicing that the wait was way too long and if they can remove an item (appetizer or dessert) from the bill. The owner first and foremost straight forwardly said no, we don't do that (it took about 10 minutes of expressing our dissatisfaction for them to agree). The attitude really didn't leave a good taste in my mouth, that led me to bring up the taste of the food is just mediocre, maybe because I live in NY that I have high standards. The owner made two comments: I had plenty experience in nyc, our chef worked at restaurants like four seasons (what does that even mean if the food is still mediocre). My friend got upset and didn't even want to have the conversation as to why we were dissatisfied with our experience on his birthday. It would have been wrong for him not to tip because it wasn't the waiters fault. So finally, they took the salad and dessert off our bill and we tipped the waiter a bit over 20% for their hard work that day. The establishment is beautiful, the waiting team tried their best, the management especially the owner has serious issues to fix, which aligns with his previous ventures as well after a little bit of digging around. We won't be back and do not recommend this place for their food, or experience as. Maybe just go take a seat at the lawn and enjoy the greens around it. read more

Brunch?? HELL YES!! We decided to try the brunch on Sunday after reading an interesting article on Cascade in a local restaurant magazine. This was probably the most unique brunch experience we have ever had! It is an "all you can eat" brunch, but served as 5 courses - each one wheeled out to you on a cart with various food selections! You then choose as few or as many as you want! Cart 1 - appetizer like items - yougurt parfaits (awesome), croissants, homemade banana bread w nutella (awesome) and other things Cart 2 - salads and such - a cranberry walnut salad (sooooo gooood), salmon bagels, sesame noodles (very interesting), and such Cart 3 - side items - bacon (nice, thick, crispy slices!!), ham, brealfast potatoes, hash browns, etc Cart 4 - main courses - eggs benedict (perfectly done), sausage gravy and biscuits (so tasty!!l, quiche, and other things I cant remember because I did not pace myself well and am starting to get full Cart 5 - desserts - waffles foster, french toast, BEIGNETS!!!! (SPECTACULAR!!!, and more! You will literally ROLL out of this brunch!! I absolutely over ate!! All this at just $30 per person, which includes unlimited coffee, tea, juices, and soft drinks. And yes - they also have a great menu of alcoholic drinks to compliment the meal at an additional charge - my wife ordered a "pink drink" that was especially tasty! Used RESY for reservation, arrived to find neither restaurant itself nor RESY had record of it but luckily I still had my RESY confirmation text. Hostess was uppity, suggested next time we use RESY we call the restaurant directly to verify & further confirm. THAT defeats the purpose doesn't it? Food was strange, potato soup was nest of shoestring potatoes with the sour tasting "cream of soup" poured over that nest. Steak over cooked (ordered Med rare & was medium) & def lacking salt. Menu not as shown on website. If a 2-person table both must order off either CAFE menu or both off PrixFixe menu. Restaurant trying too hard to be hoity toity, just not cutting it. As a wedding and event planner I'm always looking for a unique and beautiful venues. Durham Springs checked all my boxes and more! Owners, Dan and Ian, have taken this dated property and transformed it into my absolute go-to for events, especially weddings. The grounds are lovely with ponds, swaying grasses and rolling hills. I absolutely love the flexibility of the ballroom. Beautiful views, flexible lighting, high ceilings, tons of natural light, neutral floors, walls and chairs make decor a joy. You can create any vibe you want in this space with ease. Dan was lovely to work with and exceedingly patient in providing many changes in floorpan due to the never ending Covid issues. He was also genuinely excited for my bride and groom and took joy in seeing their vision come to light. Many other venues are quick to tell you all the things you cannot do. Dan made sure that our requests came to life, and then some! His creativity was much appreciated. The food was delicious and served in a lovely, imaginative manner. William, staff captain, kept the wait staff running efficiently throughout the evening and Melissa, Durham's on-site event coordinator was responsive throughout, taking special care of several specific needs that we had for the day. After having been to the previous cascade lodge I had somewhat high expectations for this place. (Some of my most frequented establishments being bolete and grille 3501) I didn't even expect much of this place, but wow was it still disappointing. Our bill was close to $300 for some of the worst food I've ever had. Believe me when I say I would rather eat at a chain restaurant or even a diner before this place. My sister actually gagged at the table when she tried my salmon that had salmon Cavier on top. Such a shame as it is such a beautiful location with SO much potential and beautifully renovated.. Hard to believe anyone would enjoy anything here aside from the drinks maybe which were just okay. My sister and brother in law ordered the chicken which sounded delicious but came out looking more like fish and was cold on top of it. Mind you we truly are not the type to complain but our waitress did not even check on us after our food was out so at the end of the meal my sister mentioned how their food was cold and aside from an apology all that was comped was $3 in coffee- not even 1 of the $33 chicken breast meal. This place is charming, and we will be giving in another try because I'm aware that dining during these times are difficult. Overall, the food was ok, not bad not great. I chose the $65 3 course meal and I could tell the salmon had sat under the heat lamp while my partner waited to eat for my meal to arrive. It took 2 hours for our meal to arrive, my partner ordered off the cafe and I chose the 3 course meal (bad idea). It took 2 hours to get his meal, felt so bad. No one came by to refill waters or ask for additional drinks. The restaurant didn't seem that busy, but i think they were short in waitstaff. Everyone on the patio seemed very upset about how long the wait was and how poor the service was that it was a major buzz kill. As for the previous comment, the New Yorkers. This isn't New York, please don't compare. We are proud and bapto NOT be NYC. We will try again on a weeknight! Edit: the business manager (maybe owner) replied. I greatly appreciate this. Writing reviews is odd but it's a way for customers to address any concerns that will only benefit the business but i have regrets doing it now. We will happily be returning to Cascade. This is a lovely restaurant in a beautiful country setting. And the food is quite good. I would give another star were it not for the poor and unfriendly service. I was delighted to be treated for my birthday by my best friend and sweetheart. We were seated right by the window with a view of the babbling brook that cascades down the hill. The cocktails were strong and perfectly made, and the shared vegetable tempura had a zesty dipping mayonnaise. We both ordered the crawfish risotto, which was creamy and delicious. But throughout the service our waitress was socially awkward and disengaged, saying very little and even then in a rather indifferent tone. When my partner ordered the risotto, the waitress replied "Really?" We both heard her and couldn't believe it. Now I ask what kind of wait staff would be so judgmental about a guest's choices? My answer is: someone who has no business being a waiter. We will try again, perhaps dining at the less formal cafe downstairs, and in hopes that the service has improved. read more

If you are looking for a wedding venue (or even a place to stop in for dinner), you can stop your search because you've found the perfect place. My husband and I got married here in August 2019 and couldn't have had a more fabulous wedding day or planning process. We were treated like gold from our initial email contact up until and after our wedding day. The space is so beautiful that it speaks for itself; rolling hills surrounding it with a natural spring that runs through the building. The renovations that Dan and Ian did are absolutely breathtaking. There is no ugly carpet like many wedding venues have and no tackiness about the chandeliers (two of my biggest pet peeves at other spots)... just absolute understated elegance EVERYWHERE. You can dress up the venue as little or as much as you'd like; it will look fabulous either way. My husband and I felt we did not need much as far as bringing in flowers/decorations and just let the venue's beauty shine through on its own. Many of our guests commented on how lovely the setting was. The lighting and sound system that Dan/Ian had installed in the main room were also top notch. Our band was worried about hooking up to house sound, but this was not an issue at all just in case others have this reservation. The flexibility that they offered was also incredible; we were able to call indoor vs. outdoor ceremony on the morning of our wedding day. The day before it looked like 50 percent chance of rain, but as of that morning, there were no drops to be seen on the forecast and we were able to execute our dream of having our ceremony on the hilltop overlooking the pond. This was such a gift; no other venue that we toured allowed a game-time decision for ceremony location (and no other venue had such a good rain back-up plan!!) In addition to its pleasing esthetics, Durham Springs KILLED it with our food/drink items. Our guests were RAVING about how delicious everything was. We were lucky enough to customize our menu and watch the chef bring our vision to life: think miniature cheesesteaks and chilled cucumber/mint soup shooters at our request. Also, the "beet tartare" was fantastic. The service staff was also all incredibly courteous and fun; we had them join us on the dance floor for our last song and it was such good energy all around. Enough good things could never be said about our wedding coordinator, Kat Persing. She was an absolute gift for us during our whole planning process and especially on our wedding day. My husband and I were a little type A as far as planning the details; we had some trouble relinquishing control (a personal problem unrelated to Kat haha), but Kat was super patient with us and graciously took all of our phone calls/emails and went with all of our changes/crazy ideas. She executed all of our visions perfectly and kept us totally calm on our day. The timing of everything was spot on and she made us our own plates to insure that we ate and got to enjoy our food. She continually checked in with us throughout the day and was the most fantastic point person I ever could have imagined. (We love you Kat!!) So, in summary, if you are sick of looking at all of the cookie cutter wedding venues like my husband and I were (aka you pick one package out of 3 options as far as menu/ceremony/etc options and have no originality), pick Durham Springs for your venue instead. You will not be disappointed. They let you bring any vision that you have to life, no matter how big or small. You can design your own wedding with the help of their professional team supporting you. Our guests all kept saying how "us" the wedding was; that wouldn't have been able to shine through at any other venue we toured. The best part of the whole thing? Durham Springs also has a restaurant where we can return for dinner anytime we'd like. This place is so special to us and we are ecstatic that we found it. The friendly new owners of Cascade really know what they are doing and have done a spectacular job renovating. Everything is clean and beautifully manicured. What I should have mentioned first, is that we have not had less than an excellent meal since they've opened. We visited Cascade for the first time recently. Overall we enjoyed the restaurant - with a couple of caveats I hope get back to the restaurant. The host was lovely and seated us in a beautiful space. Our waiter greeted us - he was a nice young man and brought our cocktails quickly. We ordered our meals - but before doing so I had to help the waiter with his jacket. His lapel and collar were completely folded in on one side - he looked a bit disheveled and he needed a little help. He brought us our dinners, which we enjoyed. Prior to dinner we ordered glasses of wine. I asked for the German Riesling. He didn't know what I was talking about. Asked me to confirm the brand. I believe it was the only German Riesling on the menu. My friend wasn't sure what she wanted and asked for his assistance. He clearly didn't know about the wine list. I didn't necessarily expect him to be an expert, but the restaurant is a bit upper scale and I expected more, or for him to provide an expert. He tried to work through it - to no avail. He brought our drinks before dinner, but forgot mine. My husband mentioned it and he came back saying 'sorry - I had a brain fart'. Yes he said that. I wasn't offended, just surprised by the response. The table next to us got their dessert before us. The woman had the beneits with the panna cotta. She asked the server about the panna cotta and the young man leaned over and looked into the dish. He had no idea how to answer her and walked away. Our desserts were fine. Overall we enjoyed the food and the place is lovely. The staff needs some polishing - especially given the cost of the experience. We will likely go back. +1 for the refresh on the old Cascade Lodge property, but I found a recent meal at the main dining room underwhelming in most everything but appearance. The dining room is attractive, bright, and clean - none of which could be said about the old place before it closed. The plates were also quite attractive in presentation. Unfortunately they were lacking in execution. The vegetable tempura appetizer was light and acceptably almost-oil-free, but woefully under seasoned. The rice in the seafood risotto was not sufficiently hydrated and chalky. The cassoulet under the duck breast was tasty, and the duck meat itself moist and properly done, but the fat layer needed additional time to render and the skin wasn't crisp. The wine was fine, but they asked $43 for a bottle that retails for $10. Painful. The highlight of the meal was the ice cream sampler, with some interesting and unusual flavors (Thai basil was bomb!) but it isn't made in-house. The sweet corn soup was good, but very easy to reproduce at home with some local corn and an immersion blender. Overall the meal was just 'ok' which for the prices they charged, around $30 for the entrees, isn't 'ok' with me. If we do go back it would be only to try the 'casual' menu upstairs. read more

We ordered their Memorial Day picnic basket and it was fantastic! Everything was delicious--the sides, salad with blue cheese dressing, fried chicken, and biscuits were such a treat. The pink lemonade was so refreshing, and everything was packaged and stylized with such care. The picnic basket even came with two lovely tea towels! If you're looking for a wonderful meal with a gorgeous view, this is the place. I had the main lobster appetizer which was so fresh, full of big chunks and no "fillers". The coho salmon was equally as delicious. My husband had the seared beef which was fork tender and full of flavor. The cafe portion of this restaurant is somewhat new, but well worth the trip. My partner took my to what was to be an amazing experience for my birthday. I / we were so excited as the establishment is so beautiful. Our reservations were early in the evening and we were the second party to be seated, after enjoying a drink at the bar. We were seated and soon our server came by. She introduced herself, Kim was her name. She seemed anything but delighted to be waiting on us. She actually appeared quite miserable. Every question we asked, she appeared more and more annoyed and short with her responses. We placed our order as the restaurant continued to fill up. It took over 75 mins for our food and our server didn't even check on us once. I asked to speak with management, the manager came over and advised he was only working there for a few days. He received assistance from an owner whom was anything but accommodating except for offering us a drink. We didn't want another drink. Additionally he advised that there have been these complaints before, but to give it time. I mean it's been open since last fall. How much time to you need? Our food eventually arrived and I will say, the food was fantastic. We even met the Chef. My only entree complaint is that my entree contained Brussel sprout "shavings" which were just that, shavings, how about some actual Brussel sprouts on the plate. Our bill was over $200 plus the drinks we had at the bar before hand. I asked regarding the bill and the owner returned it to us stating "this is your bill". With that said we paid the bill, left a $0 tip which we have never done in our life. I have spread the word to all my friends whom recommended Cascade, but whom had also advised us that the food was great but service absolutely horrible. Needless to say, We give our $200 to an establishment deserving of such and spread the word regarding our experience. Get your crap together. read more
