Funny. I gave a 5 star review with two takeout orders on separate occasions but went in there last Sunday. Got the filet mignon. It looked like a little meatball. Sent it back. Now it looked like a shoe tongue. Potato au gratin raw and veggies not worth the time One of the worse meals I ever ate. Probably should stay away from this place on sundays. I think the owner takes off and the sous chef cuts the portions so he can take some of that food home with him. read more

Family brought us here while we were visiting as it's one of there top go-tos and I can see why. It's a very cozy place, and reminds me of an old house. Not a huge place so reservation are recommended. The service was fantastic and the food,. delicious. They had homemade zucchini bread and regular rolls to start. For dinner I chose the Penne with shrimp, chicken, mushrooms, and tomatoes in a garlic cream sauce. It had a small or large option and even though I chose the small, I still took some home. It was great but I would have liked more shrimp. Others had the Shrimp scampi, Sirloin, and Lump crab. Everything was great! read more

I went to the Ferndale Inn with a party of 6 for dinner. My wife and I have not been here for at least 30 years. Our loss. We had good service, food, and a very nice evening with friends. We had drinks and appetizers. The escargot was fantastic. Salads were very good. My two pork chops were sweet tasting, tender, and I had to take one home. A lot to eat. My wife had a house salad with chicken. Again a lot to eat. The atmosphere was comfortable. Plenty of parking at this Inn off of Route 611. Take credit cards. We will return and it will not take another 30 years. Nice dining experience. Very reasonably priced. Recommend. read more

A few friends and I spent the weekend at my home in Erwinna, and what with the Frenchtown Inn closed, we were adrift as to finding a good place to eat. By way of surprise silver linings, a neighbor told us about the Ferndale Inn. All I can say is I owe this neighbor big time! The food in this little stone cottage-style restaurant is nothing short of magnificent. The escargot was prepared perfectly, as was the pork chops with a mustard sauce. The service was friendly, professional and all- around excellent. We enjoyed everything about this place and find ourselves, weeks later, reminiscing about our evening there. Well, all I can say is that this place is my "go-to" for great food in the area and beyond. I'll happily make the trek back to the Ferndale Inn anytime from anywhere! I may have to cut my neighbors lawn for the rest of the season! read more

They have the worst water I have ever tasted, I'm sure they are making ice cubes with it. I was having beer, they poured water at the table, no one drank it. If they have a water system they should pay to have it serviced, or have one installed. read more

We had occasion to be up north of Ferndale and decided to make reservations for Saturday night. The Ferndale was one of our favorites years ago but we hadn't been for quite a while. It is every bit as charming as we remembered and the service couldn't be more attentive or gracious. But the food....... Karen had soft shell crabs on the menu and my wife and I didn't even consider anything else. Our dining partners had the prime rib and salmon. The crabs were the best I've ever eaten. Perfectly crispy and plump. Seasoned just right. Superb! The bar knows how to mix a martini and the desserts are amazing. Karen, the Ferndale is everything we'd remembered and more. So impressed! We arrived early for a drink at the bar and the bartender was spot on with her delivery of a well appointed dirty martini and menu recommendations. We feasted in French onion soup, delicious clams casino followed by main entrees that were deeeeeelish. (Lobster over angel hair and shrimp scampi.) Quiet, quaint and tucked in the sweetest little corner of a sleepy little town. Come here for ambiance, leave here with a wonderful dining experience. We will be back! read more

In my opinion this is one of the best kept local secrets. We've been going there regularly for more than 10 years and it's always been great. They've managed to stay passionate about serving great food, at reasonable prices, with a caring a friendly attitude. The bar is a local hangout of sorts and can fill up quickly on a busy night. Stopped by recently for a birthday dinner - mine. We called ahead so we were seated promptly by Tammy. It was almost empty because of Covid which was sad. Menu was limited by still had some old favorites and specials. Our drinks were tasty and strong which is how I like them. I had the swordfish and my husband had a surf and turf. No salad served with meals which was new but we did have bread. Portions were about the same. I didn't notice the price since hubby was buying. My dinner was good so I was happy. Hubby said he enjoyed his. It's definitely different now and I don't enjoy being served by someone with a mask so we won't be back for a while BUT this does not reflect on the restaurant or staff. They are top notch and are doing what they have to to stay open. Tammy was very friendly and attentive and the restaurant is very clean. It was a nice night out trying to be normal again. Really nice atmosphere and food. My husband and I had a drink in the bar while we waited for our table. There were no seats available so we just stood. The people sitting around the bar were obviously all regulars and were having a good time. After a few minutes a man stood up and offered me his seat while he walked around and talked to his friends. So nice! We had a delicious dinner in the dining room, the potatoes au gratin were amazing! Next time we will eat int he bar with all of the friendly regulars. read more

Have to agree with Martin -- the Ferndale Inn somehow manages to be a place where evening dresses and suits with ties can mingle appropriately with tourists stopping by in shorts and T-shirts, but no one feels out of place. I'm sure it has to do with the amazing food -- not cheap, but completely in keeping with the rest of the area, and FAR better in quality and flavor than most -- and the friendly staff that goes out of its way to make everyone feel welcome and appreciated. It's a fine dining establishment, owned and operated by a CIA-trained chef who's nevertheless friendly and accessible. You can often find Karen mingling in the dining room a bit. It's not a sports bar, so don't look for TVs or video games. This is a place to come when your focus is on food and good conversation in a warm atmosphere surrounded by beautiful original paintings by the owner's accomplished father. Ambience, though always nice, changes with seasons and times. In spring, it's mostly locals running the gamut from informally dressed folks who just want to enjoy some great local food and generous drinks in the old tavern-style bar. From Memorial Day to Labor Day, it gets busy with a regular stream of tourists who've heard about Chef Karen's wondrous ways with pasta & seafood (but there's so much more on the menu, not a single bad option). Fall is a mixture of locals and late vacationers and leaf-peepers. And Winter brings the locals out for some company when they get cabin fever, along with those on their way to or from the Poconos ski resorts. Excellent food. Seriously. AND... they offer takeout!!! This is actually the closest restaurant to me, which is convenient :) I do like the atmosphere...it's nice but yet casual. I guess it's because for the prices, people think they have to dress and act more formally, haha. Visits average about $50/person. Service is superb. What would make it a 5 star? Friendlier staff. The only thing stuffy about this restaurant was the staff. It's okay to laugh and smile, people! read more

What a find!!! Went there tonight for the first time. Beautiful old historic inn with old charm! The food here is Amazing! Had the smoked salmon appetizer-delicious!! Got the penne chicken and shrimp pasta entree and the salad special for the evening. My date got the chicken entree with lobster tail, again absolutely amazing!!! He said he would definitely eat here again as well!!! Everything was fresh, homemade, the entree was delicious, hot, very generous portion!! The chicken and shrimp was cooked perfectly and large pieces, pasta perfectly cooked and absolutely wonderful sauce!!!!! Will definitely return and eat here again!!! read more

We eat at Ferndale Inn several times a year and have been doing so since moving to Bucks County many years ago. The food is always consistently well-prepared and delicious. The menu is selective but covers most of what one looks for when dining at a fine - yet casual - restaurant. You can dress up or down and feel comfortable here. They have a lovely dining room or you can sit in the bar area where it can be a bit noisy but in a fun kind of way. I always get the duck - or the curried scallops if they have them. We used to go there for special occasions. We are about one hour away. One year ago we went there for our 42 anniversary. It was absolutely the worst dinner and service we ever had. Steaks we terrible and no help from the staff. We will never go there again. A complete and utter horrible experience. Steaks were filet that tasted worse than week old deer meat. Chef said it was fine. Wrong!!! Meat looked terrible. Never again. Very unhappy. Wish it was not this way . We loved to go there. They refused to make any changes said we were wrong. read more

My first experience at the Ferndale Inn was very positive. It's a quaint old building and the inside is nicely decorated with lots of paintings. It's a spacious place so the tables aren't on top of one another as is sometimes the case at older inns. We were seated by the host immediately upon entering (we had a reservation) and he took a drink order from us right away. They had a younger server filling water throughout the night, so that was always taken care of. The food was excellent. I had the scallops and my husband had one of the Inn's specials that night which was called the Hunter's Plate and he loved it. It included pork and spaetzle as the main features and was perfectly done. We split an apple crisp for dessert and it was good, but nothing too out of the ordinary. Overall, we enjoyed the food, atmosphere and service. The only minor service snafu we experienced was in between the time we received our first round of drinks and ordered. The wait was so long that we asked the person who refilled the water to send our server over. The water re-filler came back a moment later and said that the server was delivering food to the table and would be right over (she was very polite). When the server did arrive, she apologized for the long wait and service was good after that. I think the issue wasn't so much an issue with the server so much as the staffing. It seemed like a pretty busy night at the Inn and I think they would have been better off to have another staff member available for waiting tables. So, all told, we would go back. It's way out on 611 north, so especially this time of year, it's a beautiful drive. Dinner at the Ferndale Inn would be great end to a day spent in Doylestown and Upper Bucks County. read more

Went with the family for a birthday dinner. Food was amazing and service was great. Salads were delicious. 4.5/5 Carrot ginger Soup was above average. 3.5/5. Salmon and risotto was delicious 4.5/5, scallops were very meaty and au gratin was delicious 4.5/5, pasta mushroom small dish was excellent 4/5, chicken and lobster was great too 4/5. Vegetable of the day was mediocre just steamed vegetables3/5. Got chocolate mousse and creme brûlée for dessert both 3/5. Maybe I was too full but I felt like neither one were exciting. Definitely will go back looking forward to trying more items on the menu. Loved the zucchini bread and chocolate covered strawberries with the check. Great touch! read more

Ridiculous experience. Had a 7:30 reservation and arrived at 7:25, we were greeted at the door and told to wait while they cleared a table. The restaurant was 2/3 empty with empty tables for two in our line of sight. After ten minutes of being ignored, we left without anyone saying a word! read more

We always receive excellent service with a personal touch at The Ferndale. Drinks from the bar are top notch. The daily specials are always fresh and the soups are especially tasty. Special requests and substitutions are never a problem - that's almost unheard of nowadays. The complimentary after dinner dark chocolate dipped strawberries and the pumpkin or zucchini bread included in the assorted freshly-baked bread basket are two favorites of my daughter. My husband and I had a gift card so we went to check out the Ferndale Inn and we were extremely happy with both the food and the service. We went there with a discount voucher from Living Social but they treated us like a full paying customer!!!. Great atmosphere and super cuisine. We had the duck and the special prime rib of which both were right up there with the best. And the dessert we had was literally " to die for". We almost didn't get dessert as the portions here are more than one would expect for a restaurant of this class, but we decided to split a dessert. That dessert totally capped off a wonderful evening and without it, I would have said ti was all great, but that bumped it up to fantastic. I will definitely go back again!!!! read more

I and my brother have eaten at the Ferndale Inn a few times and have never been more satisfied with our dinner choices. The restaurant has a great old fashioned bar, a nice bar for a casual drink before or after dinner. The staff is always very courteous, friendly and helpful. My last visit I had delicious onion soup and a crab casserole that was excellent. I very seldom partake of desert, maybe next time. We ate at Ferndale Inn tonight and my husband I both thought it was mediocre at best. The staff is young, not particularly knowledgeable, but polite. We started with corn chowder, which was didn't have the layered flavor I'd expect and was heavily based with potatoes and thickening agents (cornstarch/flour). The skirt steak was good, but the pork tenderloin really lacked flavor and what a miss by not seasoning and crisping the outside of the meat. The baked potato had been reheated and was dry and the steamed veggies were just that. I will say the chocolate covered strawberries gratis that came with the check was a nice touch. read more
