I see the ads everywhere I go so I decided to go in and try. The service from the gentleman behind the counter was amazing. You could tell he was training new staff and was doing great. Had half pound of sausage Ribs and I asked for moist brisket. Sausage was pedestrian ribs were good and the brisket had no traceable flavor of smoke. Had a small piece of bark in it and that was good. The brisket was sliced very nicely and uniform. But it needed BBQ sauce to be eaten. The creamed corn was not edible. Tried 1 bite and threw away the rest of the watery mess. I would go in again but only as a last resort. read more

This was a quaint, quality bbq stop. Delicious sauces and amazing, creamy, Mac and cheese! Brisket was chopped very finely, not the way I usually enjoy it. Sausage was mild and tasty. Both times I've ordered delivery there has been issues. First time I got someone else's order but DoorDash helped resolve the issue. This time they forgot one of the sides for both bowls or any sauce. I had to drive across town for them to give it to me. By that time it was cold and the other side (fries) were completely soggy. They should have remade it. This was really upsetting because we used to love Soulman's. New management is really dropping the ball. I guess we'll have to find a new barbecue spot because the forney store has completely changed. read more

Ordered a kids meal and my child didn't want the food. I asked the manager if we could exchange it for something else and he says no?? The chicken tenders were over cooked and dry as hell. I said I would pay the difference for something better and he said keep it?? The shit was nasty and we didn't want it. What's would be the point of us keeping the food. It's Texas Brisket... Woof! Where's the Bark????? Meat (sliced brisket) is cooked but does not appear to be smoked or wood smoked. Could have a lot more flavor. The meat was grey all the way through. NO BARK! No visible smoke ring or color difference throughout. Was not dry but could definitely use a bit more smoke. The sliced bbq brisket sandwich was actually ground but with sauce and coleslaw it was ok. The coleslaw was the star of the meal. The spicy potatoes were very salty and lots of oil. Not good. Probably will not return. Better choices for same or less money. The place was clean and staff pleasant. read more

Stopped in, as part of our Tour Of Texas, (on our way back to Commifornia). Truly some damn fine BBQ! The softest and tastiest Brisket I have ever eaten. The 1/2 plate of ribs was phenomenal. The baked Mac n cheese was the cheesiest I've had in a long while. The Texas Creamed Corn, has kick. I don't normally do kick, but it was a good kick. Lastly was the Fries Okra, I love me some good okra...this one was a tad over fried. But overall, if you're going thru the area...the BBQ was definitely worth the drive thru ranch fields and pastures from the I20. read more

Been wanting to try this place since moving to Forney and finally decided to. Overall, i'd say this place has pretty average BBQ, nothing special but it still hits the spot. Ordered online and it only took 20 minutes to pick up. The mac and cheese was a bit too creamy and thick for my liking but I know a lot of people like it that way. The ribs didn't fall of the bone easily and were a bit fatty but still good. Aldo not sure if this is a common thing but the pulled pork was more so sliced pieces of pork. read more

Not great. Think Burger King for Bar-B-Q. My first day ever in Texas I needed to get Bar-B-Q before I did anything else. Unfortunately for me this was the only place the family knew of that was close to the house and open. Even coming from The Peoples Republic of San Francisco, where all BBQ is horrifying, I knew this wasn't anything good. The BBQ was dry and lacking flavor. The sides were boring and I've had much better at home. The FREE soft serve was great! Service was friendly and welcoming, too bad the food wasn't. read more

I ordered on DoorDash a to go order. I made it clear that I can't have sour cream. There was a double dose of sour cream. They acted like it wasn't a big deal and are loosing a 20 yr customer for their lack of caring. I will never walk into their doors or order online. Have a dietary issue with sour cream and if I would have had to go to hospital if had consumed the food they provided. They said they would refund my money. But of course doesn't count for the delivery fees and taxes. Beware of this place, they don't care for longtime customer. read more

If your serious about your BBQ then DON'T ORDER CHOPPED BEEF [or anything for that matter] ...unless you like MUSH ...[even though] there IS staff on site with a knife ,capable of MAKING ''chopped beef'' .... for some unknown reason they instead take sliced beef and run it through a meat grinder....which in Texas BBQ culture is a mortal sin...the rest of the food is over priced an underwhelming...the pulled pork is routinely dry an tasteless and the ribs are usually burnt /overcooked...the mac & cheese is sad watery mush !! there are MANY more places locally that offer REAL Texas BBQ ...NOT processed mush ...you can get better brisket across the street at the Grocery store deli ! read more

If I'm being truthful, I was disappointed on my first visit to Soulman's. I had heard amazing things and because of its location from my house, had to wait until I was in the Forney area. I ordered the 2 meat plate with Turkey and Brisket. The brisket was dry and the turkey bland. It resembled cafeteria food. The macaroni side was good - It's hard to ruin mac n cheese for me! I also had green beans which were bland. The only thing that kept this food alive was the BBQ sauce. If I could buy gallons of their sauce and put it on my own BBQ, I would do that. I was moving across the country from Las Vegas to D.C. and happened to stumble upon this place. First let me start off by saying Katie was an absolute peach, and had the patience of a Monk. After scouring the menu and asking countless questions the process began. I ordered the Pulled Pork 1 meat plate and choose Mac & Cheese and Sweet corn as my sides. It was very difficult to decide on the sides simply because there were a plethora of different choices. The restaurant area is vast, with plenty of seating for small groups and/or families. There are multiple soda options along with tea and complimentary ice cream. How this place doesn't have 5/5 stars is beyond me. I used to only frequent Mesquite because Forney was awful when they first opened. I ended up giving Forney another chance and have been going at least once a month for the past year. However, tonight was awful. I purchased a sliced beef sandwich and the meat was so fatty that I couldn't eat it and ended up feeding it to my dog. Looks like I may have to head back to Mesquite. The normal man wasn't there, it was a younger guy. Not sure if the meat cutter makes a difference but fatty unedible meat is not acceptable at that price. read more

I love Soulman's barbeque. The food is delicious giving you great choices of meat whether chicken or brisket or sausages or their great barbeque ribs. The side orders include many including one of my favorites, fried cabbage and their banana pudding is to die for, let me tell ya. Soulman's is my go-to place when visitors hit town and I can always count on them to deliver. To place the cherry on top is their excellent customer service along with their inviting environment. On my road trip from Vegas to Miami we decided to stop here to grab a bite. The main meats are served by them and your sides are self serve. The food was very fresh and good! Good portions! Staff was very friendly! After your meal there is complimentary ice cream! The only thing I found was that the 3 meat meal is kind of expensive from the 1 meat even though it's the same amount of meat. You pay like $7 o yo to have a different variety but same amount if you get the 1 meat. Kinda disappointed in that, other than that place is great and clean! read more

Hello, I got a take out order last night January 10, 2020. It was a Double Barrel Baked Potato, with chopped beef on the side. With cheese and butter only. No sauce. I got it home. It smelled so good, just like it always does. After eating over half, I started getting stomach cramps. I stopped eating. I was confused as to why I was getting stomach cramps. I eat this about once or twice a month. I went about an hour, hour in a half and started to get really sick, and felt as though it was going to come from both ends now. My head hurt, I felt really bad. Finally, it came out both ends. I couldn't stop it. It went on and on. I was out of breath and choking. Then, I was dry heaving. I was alone, and now I was getting scared. Now, it's another day, and I'm still sick. I can't eat anything. Here it is the weekend. Right decent BBQ, considering what was still open at 8 PM on a Monday. I'd have preferred a local hole in the wall, but at least Soulman's is a local-only chain. The highs: Great sauce, delicious cream corn, excellent mashed potatoes. Service was friendly - they were willing to let me take more than two sides if I wanted. The lows: Cream gravy for the potatoes was rather tasteless. I tried a tiny bite of fried okra and it was all fry, no okra. (It was also oily, being at the bottom of the okra pan.) The meh: Drink prices, and the meat itself. I did ask for the marbled/fatty brisket, but there was a lot of inedible fat on it. Just because it's fatty doesn't mean it's not supposed to be trimmed! The meat was also sliced thinner than I've ever had before, and I only now know that I prefer it thicker. Note that because you can see all the meats and sides when you order, you can decide what looks freshest that day. That definitely helps the star rating here. Use it wisely. read more

We ordered the family meal with meats and sides. Picked turkey and sausage. Let me tell you, it was the best BBQ we have had in a long time! The mashed potatoes, potato salad, and spicy BBQ sauce were to die for. The turkey was so tender it melted in our mouths. The sausage had a great flavor and wasn't too spicy or chewy. It was perfect. So settled for two meat plate - sausage was cold and brisket was ok Out of almost all the sides on the buffet or whatever you call it, mashed potatoes were cold and gravy had a nice film on it from sitting there so long, we did asked for okra and got some hot over cooked okra Tea was not sweet, both husband and daughter also not impressed with food $40 total for my husband, self and daughter Seems like staff was more concerned with closing than serving their customers.
