The love the venue it's in. Basically It's Dallas community college food court but it's great to grab a bite and read a book, study or meet a long lost friend. The corn cake was spot on, but i have had collard greens in more than 20 restaurants before. The collard greens are the best i have ever had in my 50+ years of life. I have seen SSE pop up on food delivery apps a few times so I was confused when I saw they were "closed" according to Yelp; called them, emailed yelp and quickly got to ordering because I was hankering for some COMFORT FOOD. Lemme just say right now if you want flavor, crunch, classic soul food type vibe then I certainly recommend the pork chops with mac and cheese. I appreciate the max being in a little tin because it made it easy to pop into my air fryer and pull out a bubbling bowl of gluttony lol... four cheese and not-soggy elbow macaroni. I had to force myself to save a bite for my partner to try when they get home. The pork chops are substantial, well, but not over seasoned and come With a nice pickled okra that made me want more okra! I tasted the black eyed peas and corn cake and let's just say I am looking forward to trying more next time. There hot lemon pepper wings were really flavorful and there hamburgers were huge definitely homemade had the onions inside and it was so delicious as were there seasoned fries. We ordered our meals to go through Door Dash. They delivered all the way to Garland. The food was amazing!! I had the short ribs and my husband had the Salisbury steak. They were both good but I REALLY enjoyed the short ribs. The meat was falling off the bones and was very flavorful. The corn cakes were good enough to be a dessert. The garlic mashed potatoes...YUM!! And the garlic rolls. Wow!! I have had garlic rolls before but not ever like this. They are like Parker rolls and soaked with garlic. So fresh and soft but a nice crispy bottom. I've been here twice. After the first time I said that I would never come back. Expensive, small portions, waited an hour for the food. Only to get home and the Salisbury steak was TOUGH and not edible. The peach cobbler had a weird/funny taste. The mac n cheese was dry. I was SO disappointed. Then I decided to try again today. Theres not many options in Forney and people swear up and down you need to give these small businesses "second chances." So to avoid the wait, I ordered online. Arrived and still had to wait 15 minutes. The food was ready. But there was a line of people ordering. Above the register there are 2 signs. One for orders and one for pickup. I waited on the pickup side, but that didn't do any good. I was trying to flag one of the other workers down, didn't work. All I was trying to go was get my food and go. Once I got to the front of the line, I mentioned that I was waiting in line for 15 minutes for a order that i had already paid AND tipped in advance for while my food was just sitting on the counter getting cold. No apology, nothing. She just handed me the bag that had been sitting there on the counter this whole time. Most places have a designated pick up area to avoid this issue. OC is a multi-plex building filled with eateries, shops, work spaces, a coffee shop and a basketball court. Really nice building! The staff at Southern Social is friendly and had patience while I decided what I wanted and sampled all the kool aid and tea. Food Review: Parmesan Wings - seasoned grilled wings with a wet Parmesan cheese sauce doused on top. The wings weren't fully coated in the sauce and had more of a grill flavor. They were ok! I wouldn't pass up Wing Stop to get to them. Seafood Baked Potato - stuffed with gumbo style seafood; shrimp, lobster, crabmeat, piled high on top of a baked potato. Be sure to mix the topping well with the potato, because it could be a little salty. Wonder if they can add extra sauce on the side? mmmm it could use a little more sauce. It was good! Suicide Tea Laid - I mixed the Blue Raspberry and Strawberry Koolaid and Sweet Tea together, to make a super sweet, refreshing, lip smacking drink. Got home, added water and turned my 1 drink into 3. So Forney is where we were at for my middle ones cheer competition. We got out a little late and were hungry, I wanted to try something in the area and found Southern Social Eatery. The menu looked good so we all agreed to go. So upon arrival I was a bit confused, I'm not from forney and am only familiar with some areas. It appears to be a community college and a theaters when you first arrive and that's what confused me. There were not that many cars and the place was called The OC. So we went to where there were people and it gave me a Legacy Hall vibe. If you are familiar with legacy hall it's just variety of eating establishments and bars. While this one had no bars it did have a couple of food choices that were actually closed. But luckily the southern social was open. I ordered the chicken sandwich, my wife ordered the wings I believe hot lemon pepper and my middle one got the burger. So the food did not disappoint at all, I had no complaint of any of the food we ate. The burger was homemade and delicious the sandwich was spicy with a hint of sweetness and the fries had great seasoning on it. Price is somewhat decent but portions are pretty good size. Overall great place staff was very nice, food was excellent and we ham no issues with sitting but there is limited tables just scattered and bar like tops as well to sit on. I ordered from here via door dash. I ordered oxtails with mac & cheese. The oxtails were tender for the most part but did have a few stringy/tough pieces. My biggest issue was the gravy....it was a little too tomato based. Almost tasted like meatloaf. I ordered the Mac & cheese as well, it tasted like the pasta dish from pizza hut. Nothing spectacular.
