They have burgers, wings, fries, onion rings, and other "shareable." The customer service was top notch. Thank you, Diana and the young lady at the register. The food, atmosphere and service were really great. They have an outdoor covered patio, a bar they have all kinds of events during the week. What a pleasant surprise! We came based on the reviews, but wondered about it being in a gas station. It was SO worth trying! I would drive from Dallas just for their hot honey fried chicken salad. That chicken was perfectly breaded and fried crispy tender. The honey drizzle put it over the top. The salad ingredients were at their peak freshness and very tasty. The dressing tasted homemade. Speaking of homemade, my husband's stiffed jalapeños were a tasty delight. Nothing frozen here. The staff was friendly and the deco is cute old fashioned diner vibe. May look like just a gas station but the Cotton Gin is nestled inside with a nice outdoor area and bar as well. Started out with drinks from the bar which were all blended well. The food came out hot and very tasty. The smash burgers were homemade with fresh products. Also had the Hot Honey Chicken Sandwich and it was delicious. My wife and I went there to eat a few days ago. I ordered the hamburger and onion rings and she got the Philly Cheese Steak. The burger was delicious but the onion rings were way too crunchy. It was like the batter was made of gravel. Plus they were $6.99. Way overpriced. There was no Au jus sauce for the Philly cheese steak. The sandwich was good though. Those are my thoughts. My husband and I went on a Saturday night and we had a good time. There was a band playing. Kids playing and some adults were dancing. Family oriented ambiance. We ordered hamburgers as their menu is very limited but they were very good. The service, well, you need to order your food and drinks, pick them up, and then clean after you are done. This is nothing like the original Cotton Gin, let's get that straight up front. It's the usual big gas station with a deli and store. First of all just getting gas was a pain. Half of the 30 pumps were not functioning for pay at the pump. WTH? Got gas finally and parked to get some coffee at 11am. 4 people working the deli counter which had no one in line or waiting. Another employee doing something with the snack aisle. 5 of us waiting at the only staffed cash register checkout and the guy decides to go to the employees only door and leaves all of us waiting. I asked the "I could care less" crew behind the deli counter if one of them could run the register? No they don't do that. Well I don't wait in line for 15 minutes to get coffee in a huge gas station! So service gets a big 0. I've been here many times since they opened. My dad tries to go every Tuesday for lunch to get his beloved cabbage & stuffed peppers. Their burgers are good and so are the salads, fish, and everything else I've ever had. It's home style cooking. The staff is always nice - and my dad reports that when they see him, they bring his tea without asking. He loves this place. I've noticed that they also fold up and move his walker and return it promptly when he's ready to leave - this makes me feel good to know they watch over him even when I'm not there. I live right down the road from this restaurant in Kaufman. The Cotton Gin Restaurant is in an actual old cotton gin. It has a real down-home feel to it. My friends and I like to stop here on our way to Dallas because we know we won't have to wait too long, although they get crowded sometimes on the weekends and after the local Friday night football games. You have a choice each day of the week of one of their specials for about $10, or you can order off the rest of the menu that includes burgers, catfish, tacos, and some mighty fine-looking steaks. We shared an order of their special crispitoes, which are chicken and cheese wrapped in flour totillas and fried. Yummy! One of my friends had the Meatlof special (there are about 4 to choose from each day.) It didn't look like my mom's, but she was happy. She said meatloaf is a very personal thing. I don't know what that means, do you? Personally, I wanted something more "Dallas," so I ordered the Salmon Deluxe Salad. It was wonderful but lacked a "Dallas" presentation. It was simply a bowl of greens with a nicely grilled piece of salmon on top, a couple of tomato wedges, a whole hard-bolied egg, a handful of shredded cheddar,sliced avacado,and several dill pickle slices.I hacked the whole thing to pieces and it was absolutely delicious with their honey-mustard dressing.It also had several very tasty homemade croutons.Rolls and cornbread were refilled abundantly, We topped it off with a wonderful slice of Pecan Pie that was amazing!
