So I don't live in Terrell, but when we come out this way Pop's is the only place to eat at! Omg, it is the absolute best food I have ever eaten out here. The chicken is so crispy and delicious. The employees are very friendly and they are very helpful with everything. But their sweet tea is amazing and we can't have POP's without their sweet tea!!!! I think everyone needs to try this place out and my MIL and friends love their greens just as much- unfortunately I don't eat greens, but I trust their opinions, lol. The fried chicken and tenders need salt and seasoning, everything is bland. The macaroni and cheese is not it. They need to go back in and completely create a new way of making macaroni and cheese. The damn box Great Value Mac n cheese from Walmart is better. It's almost like they are making this food for old folks that can't intake a lot of sodium. Unfortunately, I don't think I'll return. Pops has everything on the menu is flavorful some ain't healthy like the peach cobbler and the banana pudding lol. I'm on a carnivore diet so I can't eat but nothing but meat so when I go in there, I do a pick and pull type menu like I did today. It was like $25 but I had two plates and all the proportions that I wanted and a nasty unsweet tea because I can't have sugar. But whenever I first got back home to Texas after being gone for 10 years. I went full menu and had a little bit of everything that they have including the sweets I wasn't disappointed. The staff there is super friendly and really good people their locals the ambience is everybody in that that eats their talk to one another and very friendly for the most some people sit quiet and just shovel the food in and leave. Hands down the BEST fried chicken around. I think they have new owners, but the quality vs quantity that you get are still spot on! Awesome tasting food. Today we got the 8 piece with rice/broccoli/cheese casserole, red beans, banana pudding, pea salad, mix of hot pickled carrots and jalapeno along with their delicious rolls. Also a two piece dark meat with sides for our neighbor. Gotta share, cuz it is that good. Fast service as usual and they were pretty busy. Update the restaurant for starters. Its dated. The food is just ok. I was expecting my mom's fried chicken. It wasn't even close. The buffet looked old the food didn't look delicious. We got our food and thought maybe it's better than it looks. To tell you the truth it wasn't bad but it wasn't lip smacking delicious either. Wound up here because I thought this was a place that someone recommended. Happy to report I got that wrong because I might not have spoken to that person again if this was the right place. I got a plate, my friend got a plate and she took two plates back for her friends. The four of us agreed that this is a two-star experience. I can't tell you what I had. Lunch in Terrell TX on a Sunday...where to go, where to go? Boy were we lucky to find Pop's! There's truly something special about a place that has been serving their community good food for decades! Since 1974, this old timey cafeteria style "meat and two sides" mom and POP place was perfect comfort food on a chilly Sunday afternoon. Beautiful Christian music playing in the background really set the scene for after church crowd and gave us much to be thankful for. Hubby and I laughed we ended up choosing the same sides and should have talked to pick 4 different but that was ok, we both really enjoyed our mashed potatoes with gravy and greens. Both were well seasoned and simple. The fried items were cooked perfectly and seasoned again, simply but were delicious. We also ordered chicken strips with fries to go for our kiddo competing at a local sports event. She loved the food as well, and she's...definitely picky! What a delightful find this was as we drove through Terrell late Saturday afternoon! The reviews were great, and we love finding hole in the wall gems. It's described as "no frills" which it is, but it was also immaculately clean. The food was dynamite, and the staff was delightful. You order at the counter and your plate is prepared right there for you take to the adjacent dining area. We both had fried chicken which was perfectly cooked and delicious, but the couple in front is us (who'd driven all the way over from Arlington!) raved about the chicken and dressing which my wife says she'll try next visit. You get two ample sides and two rolls or cornbread with your meat selection. I had yummy mashed potatoes with white gravy and very good mac and cheese. I'll probably opt for the greens next time. Our plates were heaped so high we had no room for the fetching ice box pies on display, but we'll also save room for those when we return. Ours had been an early dinner, and when left at 5:30 the place was packed. The next time you're tempted to pull into one of the new shiny spots around Bucc-ee-oplis off of I-20 in Terrell, do your self a favor. Find this place up on the GPS and take about a ten minute detour into old town. I promise you'll have no regrets! read more

I went here as I wanted to try out this place. I saw good reviews of this place and I ended up bumping into this place while I was playing Pokemon Go as I told myself I will try this place next time when I am in town and I ended up being in town that day. The place does look old on the outside and takes you back to the 70's as the outside and inside probably has not changed much. They do have 2 restrooms as well inside which were somewhat clean. The food placed is like a cafeteria style and the menu is old school with the digits. But most of downtown Terrell has the feel to it. I ended up going for what they are known for the fried chicken. I ordered 2 piece chicken meal which comes with 2 vegetables. I ordered 2 thigh, 1 wing, corn and collard greens. They also have coleslaw and potatoes. I believe they had ribs, but not so sure I would try. They also have chicken fried steak too. Unfortunately, I did not see they had coleslaw or salad until it was very late. They have the banana pudding with the cookies. I sat down and the chicken was pipping hot and very moist and good. Probably one of the best fried chicken I ever had. It is up there on my list for sure. The collard greens and corn were good too, but it was nothing too special. If you are looking for Southern homemade cooking this place is for you. I experienced racism at this establishment by a manager by the name of Jared who would not give me his name but thank God it was on the receipt I have been going to this establishment since I was a child I had family that worked here and the service has always been good this manager was angry from the jump I had asked questions about the prices because I noticed how they increased I also had noticed out the parking lot was empty there was barely in the cars which I thought was different because usually when I pull up to this establishment it is busy it has cars going around the corner and for him to say that him and his family owned this establishment I would not believe that because there was hardly any business he had the worst attitude ever and he was being racist that I feel like because why would you have an attitude just because I'm asking questions I asked him for the corporate office number I asked him for the supervisor or somebody over him he said my family only establishment I am the owner I'm not giving you anything you're not getting nothing from us and he was throwing down his pen a really bad attitude lvam going to report this establishment until something is done about it. I got the fried catfish, mash potatoes with brown gravy and broccoli and cheese everything was delicious. I went back later that day to take my family around 7:50pm and the inside was closed which was quite unfortunate because we wanted to sit down and eat. The restaurant hours on the door stated Sun open til 9:30. That has to be the only bad thing I have to say about the restaurant. However, I did have some grilled and fried chicken and they both were awesome! I also had some mashed potatoes, corn and green beans and all were really good. I just tried this place. I had the chicken spaghetti, turnip greens and fried okra with banana pudding for dessert. The chicken spaghetti was tasty enough, no complaints there. The fried okra was crispy but a little bland. The green were very disappointing... I kept encountering grit in them, which I realize is a challenge to fully rinse out, but they lacked flavor and that's worse in my opinion. The banana pudding is tasty, but the way it was served reflects the biggest problem with the place. The staff looks like they want to kill themselves or you, whichever requires the least effort. Bear in mind, my standards are low... just be civil and efficient and don't serve me anything that shouldn't be eaten and I don't care if you smile or give me a big ol' howdy when I walk in. But I do object to feeling like I'm bothering the employees when I order a simple, available meal. And I get it, it's a hot and largely thankless job. And they were swift and efficient, at least. But they slopped the food into each container like it was the last thing they wanted to do and they wanted it over with. Half my pudding is vanilla wafers because it also looked like they MADE the pudding as though it was the last thing they wanted to do. I dunno, man... The place has the energy of a once nice mom and pop restaurant that now has its staff being driven by some hard-nosed boss. I will admit I was a bit hesitant to try this place as the building is a bit run down but I am super glad I did as the fried chicken is amazing. We also tried the sweet potatoes, mac and cheese, and dinner rolls. But that Fried Chicken Y'all oh my! that Fried Chicken was good. With that said I have to admit I was a little bit more than disappointed to see that not all of the employees were wearing face masks. I know to some people it's not a big deal but to me it is and it should be to the owners as well as they do have an obligation to protect their customers from food-borne illnesses and they should Feel just as obligated for Airborne ones as well. (at least preventable ones anyway) I really wanted to give them the five stars they deserve but the not wearing a mask thing made me drop them down to a 4 unfortunately. With that said this place is really good and even though I won't be back during these times of pandemic I most certainly will be back once things of that nature are behind us. I'm serious y'all this place is really good! with so many fried chicken places around the Dallas area this one definitely made the number one spot in my top three. I had a wonderful visit as always. I purchased the 16 piece meal to go and will again. The meal comes with two large sides and 10 rolls. I was ordering everything separately and a nice gentleman offered the meal deal, Everything was amazing and prepared perfectly. I drive a good ways to come here and have for years. My friends and my families favorites are, fried chicken, fried catfish, meatloaf, chicken and dressing, black eye peas, cornbread, mashed potatoes with yummy gravy, broccoli and cheese, turnip greens, then last but not least, their amazing homemade peach cobbler .
