Chicken fried chicken, baked potato (butter only), refritos
Matthew J.

The food was great. It tasted like it was made that morning, not frozen and reheated as in some chain restaurants. The waitstaff unfortunately was somewhat overrun. (One staffer looked like she had it all under control and another looked like they would rather be someplace else.) As for the decorating, yeah, dated and clearly the last thing on their mind. Would return to try other items on the menu.

Mom & Pop AND hole in the wall all rolled into one!
Garry H.

I know, we're all looking for that great hole in the wall, or Mom and Pop's diner. I found both! Let's see, decor circa 1960, check. Magic marker menu boards, check. You see where I'm going with this. Tables and chairs straight from the 1950's. I like! She brought us chips and hot sauce, which I wasn't expecting. The BEST chips and hot sauce I've had in a while. Delicious! Glenda picked an all veggie plate, while I got the Patty Melt with fries. Both were old school delicious. Places like this are a taste bud treasure. Dessert? Too full, next time. Thank you for a great meal Terrell Cafe!

Lunch

Nice home cooked feel about this place. The overall look of the restaurant is dated, but don't judge a book... (you know the rest). From Mexican to American, there is a variety to choose from. I had the Carne Asada and my wife the Burrito platter and chicken tortilla soup. We both agree the lunch was good but could use a little more spice. The soup was on point (recommend). Service was great, staff were pleasant and attentive. Overall 3.5's

Taste disgusting and is brown

Home made chips and quality Mexican food. Very small place that delivers good quality food. I'll be back.

Food isn't worth it. My buddy's water has a zip tie in it. The gravy was not cooked correctly. Terrible

Always fast and fresh. Best salsa in Terrell, TX or anywhere. Ambiance somewhat lacking.

Great food from Southern Home Cooking to Mexican. Home of the best homemade chips and salsa as well as the peach cobbler.

Service: we had 1 waitress but if anyone noticed empty plates or drinks they were quick to refill…read more Our waitress was very attentive as well without being hovering. Food: Chicken fried steak/ Grilled pork chop there were no complaints. Good portions for the cost and definitely seemed fresh. Even the sides were delicious and fresh tasting. The ONLY downside is parking. I didn't subtract stars for it because there is still enough room to get around. But definitely use cation with bigger vehicles and especially trailers.

We were picking up a Facebook Marketplace item in Kaufman, Texas, which is close enough to qualify…read moreas a mini road trip. And whenever we take a drive like that, we make it our mission to find a highly rated local lunch spot. This one was on the way home and looked promising, so in we went. I will say this for Texas. Onion rings are everywhere here, far more than when I lived in California. I will happily take that as a win, because the heat for about nine months of the year is not my jam. Sadly, the onion rings were not listed as one of the many sides (so we couldn't get them as a side with our meal), but we ordered them as an appetizer ($8.99 I think) with blue cheese dressing. I am not a ranch girlie, and I stand by that choice. The blue cheese had huge chunks in it, which makes me think it might be house made (bonus point!). Now, the rings. I am firmly Team "Battered" Onion Ring over Team "Breaded", and these absolutely delivered on the team battered. They were almost chicken-fried, -- super craggly, crispy, and deeply satisfying. These were the star of the meal, so do yourself a favor and order them - but you need a friend to share them with, its a heavy portion. They also have great lunch specials, most around eleven dollars. I got the pot roast with two sides, refried beans and mashed potatoes with gravy. After indulging in the onion rings, I was not exactly starving, so I ended up with enough leftovers for another full meal. The pot roast was nicely shredded and tender, and the gravy was rich, flavorful, and worth every calorie. My husband ordered the chicken fried steak, (he's obviously on a diet!), with fried okra and mac and cheese. The mac and cheese was forgettable, but everything else on his plate was solid. Service was friendly and efficient, and this place definitely fills up at lunch, so plan accordingly. A very good roadside stop, and proof that sometimes the best meals happen when you are just out running errands.

Twin Peaks

Backstory: First we tried their neighbors (Olive Garden was SO COLD inside that we walked right…read moreback out. The hosts were complaining of the cold, too; but I told them we have a choice. Strolled over to Chili's and were met by three people who were barely out of childhood and couldn't care less. The gum-chewing, poorly articulate child seated us. The temperature was also chilly & the music was too loud for conversation, so we left.) Circling around, we came upon Twin Peaks, which neither I nor my husband had previously experienced. PROS: Upon entering, we were met with a reasonable temperature - not hot or cold. Two lovely ladies greeted us in a professional and friendly manner; and we were seated. Our server "Nadailine"(sorry for the spelling) arrived and was just divine, getting printed menus because my phone wasn't reading the QR code, bringing drinks quickly, taking our orders, delivering the food, and making sure everything was good. We started with an order of the Mini Crispy Tacos. Delicious. I ordered the Fish and Chips (seasoned fries), no vinegar; but ketchup please, and a side of Mac and Cheese. A Coke to drink. Everything was excellent. My husband had an Arnold Palmer (three, actually) I call him a heavy drinker. They were replenished quickly in a fresh glass each time. He ordered the Chicken and Shrimp combo, grilled and blackened. It came with some seasoned fries. Honey mustard, cocktail sauce, and ketchup included. Cooked perfectly; and delicious. CON: The only complaint is when the sound was turned up on the TV screens it was WAY TOO LOUD. We did make a request to have it toned down a click or two; and perhaps that happened; but my eardrums still hurt. It would have been sufficient at half the volume. Patrons (and workers) should not have to sacrifice their hearing while trying to enjoy a meal and conversation when watching the game. What started as perfection, missed the mark when the atmospheric noise became unbearable.
