We were picking up a Facebook Marketplace item in Kaufman, Texas, which is close enough to qualify as a mini road trip. And whenever we take a drive like that, we make it our mission to find a highly rated local lunch spot. This one was on the way home and looked promising, so in we went. I will say this for Texas. Onion rings are everywhere here, far more than when I lived in California. I will happily take that as a win, because the heat for about nine months of the year is not my jam. Sadly, the onion rings were not listed as one of the many sides (so we couldn't get them as a side with our meal), but we ordered them as an appetizer ($8.99 I think) with blue cheese dressing. I am not a ranch girlie, and I stand by that choice. The blue cheese had huge chunks in it, which makes me think it might be house made (bonus point!). Now, the rings. I am firmly Team "Battered" Onion Ring over Team "Breaded", and these absolutely delivered on the team battered. They were almost chicken-fried, -- super craggly, crispy, and deeply satisfying. These were the star of the meal, so do yourself a favor and order them - but you need a friend to share them with, its a heavy portion. They also have great lunch specials, most around eleven dollars. I got the pot roast with two sides, refried beans and mashed potatoes with gravy. After indulging in the onion rings, I was not exactly starving, so I ended up with enough leftovers for another full meal. The pot roast was nicely shredded and tender, and the gravy was rich, flavorful, and worth every calorie. My husband ordered the chicken fried steak, (he's obviously on a diet!), with fried okra and mac and cheese. The mac and cheese was forgettable, but everything else on his plate was solid. Service was friendly and efficient, and this place definitely fills up at lunch, so plan accordingly. A very good roadside stop, and proof that sometimes the best meals happen when you are just out running errands. read more

Been there a few times. Food was good. However. they added someting 3% to the bill. You never got the bill until you went to pay. Don't know why they added the extra percentage, but that turned me right off. Have not been back in a good while and not sure if I want to go back. read more

We were hungry after our flight in from Hawaii and had a three hour drive ahead of us. We stopped in for breakfast and it was so tasty. Really yummy biscuits and gravy and hash. Husband had blueberry pancakes that were great. read more

Service: we had 1 waitress but if anyone noticed empty plates or drinks they were quick to refill. Our waitress was very attentive as well without being hovering. Food: Chicken fried steak/ Grilled pork chop there were no complaints. Good portions for the cost and definitely seemed fresh. Even the sides were delicious and fresh tasting. The ONLY downside is parking. I didn't subtract stars for it because there is still enough room to get around. But definitely use cation with bigger vehicles and especially trailers. read more

I drove to meet my parents in the middle for lunch- it's a special occasion to dine with my folks. I saw this mom and pop shop- looked legit. I met up w my parents and we ordered. I got fried chicken, and was excited about it. The server came out and gave me a big plate of chicken fried chicken. I wasn't trying to be a pain- but I was looking forward to the fried chicken that I'd ordered. The server wanted to reiterate that I ordered chicken fried chicken. I insisted that I ordered fried chicken. She wouldn't let it go- was arrogantly combative. My appetite disappeared. The nice lunch I was having with my parents was thwarted. I had a panic attack instead, because the server was standing over me, arguing and aggravating me to no end. I didn't eat the meal she gave me. The outside of the restaurant was a little deceiving, but wow, was the food amazing! You can get Tex Mex, American, pretty much anything! Mom and I opted for a BLT and a Turkey sandwich! Family run cafe with great service, enjoyed everything except the beef stew. Stew was in a soup broth, not thick stew as expected. Pie crust tasted homemade and pie fillings were more custard than pudding. Both slices were very tasty. Pot roast was very good. read more

The Country House Cafe is between our home in Asheville and my mom's home in downtown Greenville. It is a "newly-discovered" perfect and delicious place for all of us to meet and enjoy good company and a homemade meal. My daughter devoured her chocolate-chip pancakes and bacon with a smile. I love grits and don't always get them at restaurants because they hardly ever measure-up... I tasted my mom's order and was instantly not happy I didn't order my own. They are goooood! ...and ooh my! the homemade biscuits are SO BUTTERY-FLAKEY DELISH! Mom and I could have easily made a meal off of them. Our omelets did not disappoint, and my husband was silent while he ate... meaning, he enjoyed his too. Outside, we met Bob, the turkey. Saw the piglets, taking a nap and my daughter pet and talked with the goats. After our meal, the hammock and swing were looking pretty comfy. Thank you! We've lived in the area several years and stopped in to have breakfast on a Saturday morning. It's a typical diner in the area. When we arrived (around 10:30) we asked for a breakfast menu and they said they stopped serving breakfast. Not the biggest disappointment, but still disappointing seeing the sign stated breakfast until 11. We ordered lunch. While we were waiting for our food, they served another table breakfast, then a few minutes later brought our lunch. Still not the biggest disappointment. I ate what I ordered. It looked like maybe there hadn't been enough time to warm the food up from the night before. It wasn't horrible, but was not worth waiting the 30 minutes for. The disappointing thing was we ordered, ate, and closed our tab all before 11 but yet they don't serve breakfast after 11. read more
