I was ordering everything separately and a nice gentleman offered the meal deal, Everything was amazing and prepared perfectly. I drive a good ways to come here and have for years. My friends and my families favorites are, fried chicken, fried catfish, meatloaf, chicken and dressing, black eye peas, cornbread, mashed potatoes with yummy gravy, broccoli and cheese, turnip greens, then last but not least, their amazing homemade peach cobbler . I love this place. I've eaten here two times about a year apart. The first time I was able to eat inside and choose my meal from the steam tables. The second time was during the pandemic so we ordered through the drive up and took the food to go. Both times, the food was very good. I had fried chicken the first time and chicken fried steak the second time. I love sweet potatoes and fried okra and had those sides both times I visited. I went through the drivethru and order chicken livers and they were nasty and cold and $ 7.57 when I could got them at church 's for half that and they would be hot and fresh. There price is way to high on livers I could of got 9 prices of chicken for a few dollars more. read more

The staff is always friendly and are quick and efficient. Best place for a great & wonderful meal. The food is hot and fresh the meatloaf was off the chain & of course the fried chicken is the best around. You have so much to choose from. Also if you ever have it delivered no worries the food is still great. I just hate they never send cornbread & there's not a option to ask for it. But other than that this place is pretty perfect. Friendly staff greet you and help you through this cafeteria style restaurant experience. They have a nice variety of choices for chicken(fried, baked, or with dumplings), some sandwiches, maybe some enchiladas, etc, several veggies and a couple of desserts. For me, they really hit the mark when I need a homestyle comfort food fix. Prices are very reasonable, and they serve on paper or foam plates, but the restaurant is always clean and the drive thru is always busy. I was in Terrell last week and stopped into one of my favorite places there, Pops honey fried chicken. Unfortunately, I was very disappointed with my meal. I really love liver and onions and almost never get it so I decided I'd have that for lunch. The liver was posterboard thin with thick breading on both sides. 2/3 breading 1/3 liver. I've had liver here before in the past and it had almost no breading, just a light flour coating and fried to perfection 3/8 to half-inch thick. It was $7.99 when I was there last week which I believe was more than I paid for it before. I'm including pictures so you can appreciate the crazy thick breading and the crazy thin liver. If feels like something may have changed at this establishment, or, maybe it's just the feeling I walked away with after this poor experience. read more

We visited after our trip to Ham Orchards. The have a cafeteria still setup with various sides to choose from. Unfortunately, all of our food, including the chicken, was very bland. There was no flavor to the mashed potatoes or gravy. My daughter did not like the macaroni and cheese. I hardly ever turn down a roll, but this one was inedible. We live in Forney, and if I'm honest, I have not been too impressed with their selection of fried chicken restaurants. My husband and I were craving fried chicken one night, so I got on Yelp and found this place. Sure, it was a little out of the way for us, but the reviews were promising, and well, we wanted fried chicken! It was a great decision, because we have fallen in love with this place. We ordered the 12 piece chicken meal with mashed potatoes and gravy, and broccoli cheese rice. We also got two slices of pie. It came to around $20. We took the chicken to go, and I was a little worried that our trip home would cause the chicken to get a little soggy, but it didn't it all! The chicken is so good. Nice and crispy on the outside, juicy and flavorful on the inside. The sides were really good too. And the pie? My husband enjoyed his lemon meringue, and the chocolate meringue pie I had was delicious! It was definitely worth the trip. We moved to Texas a few years ago, and I don't think you could find a place like this where I come from. It's a no frills restaurant with a small town Texas feel. This was our go to place for home cooking however the last time we were there I waited on my tenders as though they were being freshly cooked sadly they were not they were room temp , I was sick,both me and my husband for two days that was it that did it we will not be going back not to mention all the people working there are not friendly and look very unhappy when we walk in but we ignored that and would go back but the cold chicken and getting sick we will never go to this place. It's a shame though looks like a lot of regulars go and thats the ones they seem to be happy to see and welcome. It's really no big deal not to go back many other places we can spend our $ but I do want all to know this place is rude & un-welcoming if your not a regular parton also that we got sick from chicken that did not temp 165 degrees. I've been in food service for decades I will say I knew better but we were hungry and that's our failure to complain rite then and request fresh food especially chicken we should all know under 165 degrees bacteria starts to grow most should especially in a restaurant where you serve others all should be up on food safety. Shame on you we will not come back you've made that decision for us no telling what the back of the house looks like I'd be afraid to see. Today we tried a new place. We are in the middle of what looks like no where but this town somehow is booming. Cute place. Now on to pops- we were hesitant. Until we saw the parking lot. It's was packed. You walk in and it's cafeteria style on how you pick your meal. I went for the 3 piece chicken strips, 2 sides, and a roll. Great choice and a ton of food. They have a lot of veggie choices (16 according to their window sign). I chose the sweet potato casserole and corn. Both were amazing. Ok the corn tasted like buttery corn but it was what I was craving at the time. The sweet potatoes. It's like you were sitting at grandmas house. So sweet and marshmallowy. Now to the best part- the chicken strips. Huge. I only ate 1 and nibbled on the second one. It was perfect consistency, crunchy and delish. I got the gravy to go with it and did add lots of salt and pepper but that was the only thing I had to do. Definitely not a let down.
