This place was surprisingly great! I stopped by for a late lunch and the place was empty so I placed an order for a steak and cheese pasty. So delicious and filling- with a side of brown gravy to drizzle on while you eat it. This is comfort food at its finest. This out of the way spot is homemade and amazing! First time here and tried steak and cheese... ahhhmazing with flaky crust. Note they have only certain ones on the menu hot and ready to eat upon order. If you want one that is not ready, then you would have to wait 20 minutes or so for it to be baked. But you can call ahead 30 minutes or so and they can put it on and it will be ready for you when you get there. The other benefit is you can take them home frozen or half baked and just finish cooking them at home! Very fresh and homemade and delicious!!! read more

I work in Guest Services, at Frys just a little north from this location! I get to serve, and chat with a lot of customers daily . Of course in a grocery store, the topic of lots of conversations,is Food! I enjoy that , as I can interact , get ideas , and share recipes. Recently , I have had several customers telling me about SONSONS and how good it is. Always pass by going to work , and have been wanting to try it. WELP!!! Today I TRIED IT! We came here for a ladies luncheon and though the seating was sparse and the venue small, it was utterly worth it. I had a chicken pot pie pasty and it did not disappoint. The pasty is not an easy thing to do right and they did it all very well. The pastry was flaky and perfectly cooked. No soggy bottoms here! The inside was creamy, filled with seasoned chicken and fresh green peas. The filling was ample and so good and lots of seasoning! One pasty filled me up. There are two four person tables and one two person tables so it is not large, but take out is an option and lots of folks came in to do just that . My friend had a more traditional beef one and she loved it as well. So if you're craving a hand held pie, this is the spot. read more

I have been going to Son Sons for a couple of years and felt it was a good value. Seems like since they opened the second location it's not as good and not as good a value anymore. The size of the pasty's vary from their usual size to smaller than they ever used to be (which is more often these days). What's even more unfortunate are the cake pieces. A recent piece was dry and over cooked, the price has gone from $3.50 to $4.50, and the pieces are noticeably smaller. With an almost 30% price increase and size decrease, that I would estimate at 20%, I'll start going elsewhere for my desserts. read more

Okay, I'm a picky pasty person, spoiled to the core when it comes to good pasties. I evaluate them as if they were Olympic athletes vying for a Gold Medal. Sonsons just won gold! I've eaten pasties all over the world and I'm a tough judge. These pasties have a flavorful and crunchy crust that perfectly compliments the filling. The filling is juicy, with not an ounce of dryness. Each pasty is cooked to perfection and comes with the side of gravy that is a must try. We aren't talking store bought gravy - this is the real deal. Flavorful, with perfect consistency. Julie owns the store and she is from Cornwall, the home of pasties, and her expertise shines through in every bite. Honestly, some of the finest pasties I've ever tasted. And she makes heavenly sausage rolls too! There are enough flavors of pasties to please any taste, including unique vegetarian options such as pasta and tater tots (not in the same pie). There is also an offering of sweet treats and non-alcoholic beverages. Sonsons is a shining star in the realm of pasties and they have earned my highest honors. I often try new food out at local eateries. Today, I experimented with an English food called a Cornish Pasty. The location was called Sonsons Pasty Company. I was delighted. A pasty (said "past-ee" with a soft "a") is a pastry filled with a meal, in this case meat, potatoes and possibly other vegetables, or cheese. The pastry dough shell is baked in the oven and provides a wonderful tasty and flaky shell to your choice in inside meats and more. The small food kitchen is located just north east of Recker Rd and Brown Rd in Mesa. The business area/strip mall is sparsely filled so you should just head to the north east area of the parking lot to find it. Inside is a small shop with a half a dozen tables and a counter serve area for purchasing your food. The walls are decorated with paraphernalia from the Cornwall area of England and the hosts/owners greeted me warmly when I entered. When you order a pasty, you decide if you want steak, ground beef or pork (they now have a new chicken pasty as well) and cheese if you wish. They add in potatoes, rutabaga and onions. The entire pasty is wrapped completely in a beautifully flaky and savory pastry shell and baked to perfection. The pasty often comes with a gravy to top it off (wow!). A pasty will run you between $8-10 and it is truly a meal. They even have veggie pasties if you call ahead, for those wanting veggie meals. I really enjoyed my first encounter with a pasty, and with the staff at Sonsons Pasty Company. Julie, the proprietor, was kind and answered all my novice questions with grace and a smile. Something great to try. If you've never had a pasty- go get one at Sonsons Pasty Co. I will return! Update: Since this review, I've returned 2 times to Sonsons, trying out the Steak and Cheese, hamburger and chicken pasties. I also tried the sausage rolls and cherry and lemon turnovers. What a delicious pasty I just had! In ordered the ground beef pasty, it comes with a 2oz gravy. The pasty dough was fluffy , crispy in the outside with a buttery flavor super good! The filling was very delicious as well with a mixture of ground beef, potatoes, onions & rutabaga. The combination of the gravy with the pasty is excellent. The place was super clean , along with the restroom. The lady at the counter was super attentive and always smiling. Okay, wow, this place far exceeded my expectations! I ordered the Chicken Pot Pie and Large Steak & Cheese with extra gravy. Both pies were delicious, but my goodness, I could eat three more of the steak and cheese and guzzle their gravy. Wow, I am so, so glad I had a craving for chicken pot pie and went with Sonsons. I found a new favorite place for meat pies. I also want to add that their customer service is amazing. I actually put in an order the day before and received a call from the store saying they were out of stock but that they were more than willing to exchange my order for something else. I decided to cancel and got a full refund. The next day, I called in before putting in my order and was assisted by a lovely lady assuring me that the pies I wanted were in stock. Absolutely amazing! My husband and I stopped in on whim while we were in the area and ordered a few pasties to bake at home. We ordered the Cornish Cheezy, BBQ chicken, sausage, and ground beef pasties. So far, we ate the Cornish Cheezy and sausage and they did not disappoint! The pastry on the outside is flaky and buttery while the inside was amazing. The cheese and buttery sauce on the inside of the Cornish Cheezy was delicious and flavorful. You will also get a cup of gravy on the side which really elevates each bite! Can't wait to try all the flavors and sit out on the cute patio as soon as the weather cools a bit. The pasty is delicious. I had the chicken with green Chile. I forgot to take a picture of it because it was just really delicious. I was so caught up with the moment. I was just too hungry to remember. Lol. Having lived in the UK for a while, I missed the British cuisine. I am glad that I was able to make a visit to this pasty shop. They have a little nice patio outside that is fenced up nicely. When you walk into the patio, you are warmly greeted with a lovely flag. Long live Britain! Here's the deal: If you want to order something, it is best to order in advance so they can bake your pasty that takes 30 minutes. They are delicious but you need to chill. However, there are pasty in the hot container that is ready to pick up. At the time of my arrival, they have two selections--- steak and chicken with green chile. In other word, if there are some menu items that you want to try, it is a great idea to call ahead so they can prep it. By the time you arrive, they'll have your pasty ready for you. Be prepared. Be patient. Be enthusiastic! Long live the good old pasty! read more

I lived in the UK (London) for 6 years. Pasties (with the 'pas' pronounced like in the word pastel) are a staple, but the best ones were in Cornwall. It is clear that these are made by someone from the UK and a gift that Julie is from Cornwall, the home of the pasty. I live in North Central Phoenix, so when I went out there, I bought about $75 in pasties (trying almost all varieties) and a few sausage rolls, all frozen, to be cooked at home. First, the sausage roll. EPIC. I am used to sausage rolls sometimes having a filo/phyllo dough around them, but I much prefer the classic crust. It's not greasy at all. It's nice. I enjoy it with a salad. YUM. The actually pasties are good, but I bet they're a heck of a lot better when you eat them there. For me, I did them exactly as was instructed, including with the egg wash and they were OK. All of them are a little bit dry on the inside and not really fully soft, moist and all mixed together. Still, it was good. For all of them, the crust came out gorgeous. So, even though this is only 4* starters for me, you absolutely should go try it! It's wonderful that it's family owned. It's wonderful that they are from the UK. And the food is yummy. :) read more

Been meaning to stop by this place for a while. Finally stopped in with my family and tried the steak and cheese and green chili chicken. Amazing pasty's. Also tried the sausage roll. Again, pretty darn good. Service was super friendly and the place was spotless. Loved talking to the employee and finding out more about the place. I'll definitely be back soon. I ordered the Cottage Pie and a piece of the pineapple cake. The crust and insides of the pasty were so delicious! The gravy that came with it was amazing as well. I wasn't so much a fan of the cake because the flavor of the buts and pineapple topping just wasn't for me, it wasn't gross and the cake had a good consistency, so order one for yourself and see. I took off 1 star because the cake came and was kind if frozen which let's me know it wasn't fresh baked. Will definitely order from here again! read more

Outstanding!! I just recently placed a big variety order and not one bad thing to say! The customer service was amazing! The portions are large and the gravy is so good! I have to say the new monthly one Feta, spinach and eggs have to be my new favorite but all are delicious. This pasty place makes great pasties! However, they offer a rewards program that is difficult for customers to use. Something similar to collect 10 points, get one pasty free. Which at $10.00 or so each is something! BUT when I have gone in there to use points I have had difficulty. The ladies that work there are great at making pasties, but their customer service stinks to high heaven. No matter how good the food is, if you promise something to your customers and you can't or won't deliver, I'm hesitant to go back or recommend that anyone I know eat there too. They didn't offer to refund my card and charge it properly, they offered to let me take a 3rd pasty that I didn't want at the time, and even asked me which one I wanted when clearly I was done with my order. They didn't apologize, they got indignant that I was upset. Needs improvement before I will ever go back. read more

First visit and greeted immediately by Stacey. Stacey showed me the menu, asked if I heard of Pasty's (which I had not) and told me about them. You can dine in, take out and order ahead of time by phone or online. There was a selection of fresh Pasty's to go, my choice? Chicken Green Chili that I took to go for lunch at work that day. Everything you would expect out of a pasty! Perfectly buttery dough, delicious filling. My husband got the steak and cheese, I got the ground beef - I couldn't tell you which was better! We both kept eating off each other's trying to decide. We ended up leaving with quite a few frozen pasties to heat up for dinner tonight and one as a gift to my mom for babysitting while we got to enjoy a meal! With all the reviews both here and on facebook - we just had to try Sonson's Pasty Co. Restaurant in Mesa. Being from the UK we were happy to hear about this place, so in late Oct we happened to be in the area and decided to try them We have 2 Steak Pasties - have to say we were both disappointed, the pastry was very dry, there was about 2 small pieces of meat in each, the gravy was very heavy with salt. We will be sticking with the "Cornish Pasty Co" in Mesa read more

Specialties

Delicious Cornish Pasties, made by a Cornish maid! I was born and raised in Cornwall England where I was taught how to make the best handheld savory ' pie' you will ever have. Our pasties are filled with potatoes, onions, rutabaga and a choice of steak, sausage, ground beef or steak and cheese. Sausage rolls, and savory pies are also available. We offer Vegan options - chickless fajita pasty and chickless Alfredo. Our company is named after my mum, Sonia - family and friends nicknamed her Sonsons, and so came about Sonsons Pasty Company. Mum and I learnt to make pasties in the small town of Helston in Cornwall home of the famous Furry Dance! We work alongside each other making pasties for many years and now we get to make them for you.

Opening my own pasty shop has been my dream for over twenty years and this year (2018) the opportunity to follow my dreams presented itself and I knew it was now or never.

Our table was ready and waiting for us. We had the afternoon tea for three which included a varied selection of finger sandwiches, sweet treats, and scones. Two pots of tea are included and we chose the pudding tea and the gingerbread tea. Both teas were delicious and the gingerbread tea was nice in that it's caffeine free. All the food selections were fresh and fantastic. I would venture to say that I liked the food selections even more than at the previous location! While this new spot isn't as lavish as the golf resort it was previously at, the interior is still charming. Service was very friendly and we were checked on as needed.

I came to your so called Tea Room on Dec. 14, 2025, with two of my dear friends to celebrate a birthday. It started out with us having a terrible time just finding your location. There is absolutely no signage on your store front and its very apparent that you must be struggling, due to your choice of being in a very run down strip mall. You say on your Yelp site that your Tea Room is classy, however, what we walked into was not the case at all. I would say it's very "tacky ". And, what is very interesting is that most of the pictures on the Yelp app. are a misrepresentation of your Tea Room. It doesn't look anything like where we were expecting. Except, for the pictures with the pink walls. What a disappointment for my myself and my friends birthday celebration. The food appeard to be all store bought, even though you say you have a baker on site. That is really hard to believe, based on what we experienced. The tea wasn't even warm and and what else surprised me was that the napkins were paper and the water cups were plastic. Yet, here's the aweful part, we had to rush one of my friends to the hospital. Approximately half-way through our meal, one of my friends had to be rushed away due to a sudden and horrible stomach ache, severe pains, a complete loss of facial color, and she could no longer sit in her chair. All she wanted to do was to lay down. We almost called 911, not knowing what was happening. It was that bad. Shortly after arriving at the hospital, she was diagnosed by an emergency room doctor with a case of food poisoning. It was confirmed that she hadn't eaten anything so far that day, except the food items at the Tea Room. She ultimately had a stomach ache and cramps for almost a week, following this incident. Just a few days later, our birthday girl also went to the hospital ER with stomach cramps, and ultimately had to spend 3 days in the hospital herself. In a later conversation between the 3 of us, we recalled that two us had in fact eaten the same lunch meat sandwiches. I did not eat these sandwiches and never felt these ill symptoms. Once my friends felt better, we went to talk to yourself, since you were confirmed to be the manager in charge. We made you aware, Mark C., that we in fact had documentation from the ER doctor that our friend had food poisoning from her only meal that day. Upon presenting our situation with Mark C. in a very calm and polite manner, explaining to him our experience that particular day, we simply wanted him to refund our $130 spent for that meal that day. At this moment in time, she hadn't even mentioned the cost for the ER hospital visit. It was only our intention to recover the cost of the meal. Shortly after our initial meeting with Mark, he became very rude to us. He kept insisting that there is no way she could have received food poisoning from this restaurant, saying that it takes a full 24 hours for symptoms to occur. In doing some research, this is what I found: "Food poisoning can strike from as quickly as 30 minutes (like with Staphylococcus aureus toxins) to several days or even weeks later (like Listeria or Cyclospora), depending on the germ or toxin, with common bacteria like Salmonella or E. coli often causing symptoms within hours to a couple of days. Viruses like Norovirus usually appear within 12-48 hours". Shortly after, in the same conversation, Mark told us to take him to court, to which we were very shocked that a manager and business owner would respond to us in the manner. It was at this time that we suggested we may report him to the Board of Health and let them sort this out. We simply wanted our money back and then we would then leave without so much nonsense. There absolutely was no bargaining with you Mark C, or the big words you seem to like to throw around like extortion and blackmail. All over $130. Shame on this man!

IMPORTANT NOTE: the pasties are pre-made; you cannot ask for substitutes or to leave this or that item out. I asked a few questions about three options, and I decided upon the Chicken Pot Pie Signature Pasty consisting of chicken, carrots, red potato, green beans, celery, and onion with rosemary. There are so few restaurants like the Cornish Pasty in the Phoenix area. I'd certainly recommend visiting any of the Cornish Pasty locations though for a positive experience Downtown, feel free to stop by. No reservations are needed. If you don't find a regular table available, feel free to stop at the bar and take a seat there. I look forward to returning back to the Cornish Pasty again soon. Yum!
