Came across this place and decided to try. It's a small place run by 2 sisters. We tried a few different items and unfortunately didn't live up to my expectations. They offer gravy to go along with your pasties. The chicken pot pie and beef and onion pie were ok. My Nanny (grandmum) was born and raised in Middlesex, England. She met my grandad when he was stationed in England as he was in the United States Army in the 1950s. She's the only one from her side of the family to leave England for the good ole USA, so I grew up with lots of English influence and visit several times in recent years as miss the fam across the pond. Besides missing family, I often find myself craving food and beverages from England; one main food item is a Cornish Pasty. When booking afternoon tea, I hadn't realized that Sonsons Pasty was attached to Quirky Royal Tea Room. Impromptu lunch after finger sandwiches, and tea. Definitely could plan an afternoon homage to English culture and cuisine. We ordered: - Cottage Pie Pasty: great flavor of cottage pie, but I feel their pastry is a bit dry. Additionally, I prefer brown sauce (HP Sauce) over gravy with my pasty. I think more sauce choices could be nice, or I'll take home next time so I can add my own brown sauce on the side. - Sausage Roll: this was delightful! A proper sausage roll in my opinion! I did want brown sauce, but it stood up in flavor on its own. A definite return to enjoy when the area for me. And I don't have anywhere in the valley I've liked a sausage roll! Well done, Sonsons! Overall, I find myself preferring the sausage roll versus pasty. Though location is quaint (two tables), we enjoyed a simple lunch for under $20 even with two drinks! Discovered this place while getting Chinese take out next door. You can definitely feel British vibes as soon as you walk in. It's a pretty small cafe with only a couple of tables and I think most people do take out. The nice lady working there told us everything is par baked so we can take them home and bake them for 30 minutes @ 350 degrees or she can get them ready in 2 minutes using her commercial pizza oven. We opted to eat there and take the cherry pie to go. The food was ready pretty fast but everything was lukewarm in the middle so probably could have used another minute. We tried the following: Sausage roll: puff pastry wrapped around a sausage. It was okay. Beef and onion pie in an aluminum foil cup: ground beef and onion was flavored well and tasty and I liked the flaky puff pastry. Chicken pot pie in an aluminum foil cup: tasty and flaky. Chicken pot pie pasty: disappointing as it was very dry and doughy. There was just so much dough in comparison to the filling. The pies in the aluminum foil cups were so much better. Cherry pie: baked it at home and really liked the perfect amount of sweetness and wasn't doughy like the pasty. Their handheld credit card reader would not work. Thankfully we had some cash on us to take care of the bill. They're open Tuesday- Saturday from 8am-4pm, and closed on Sunday and Monday. read more

I absolutely love Sonsons! I've visited the Mesa location a couple times over the last few years but today was my first visit to the Gilbert location. The employees are so warm and welcoming at both stores and the food is exactly the same- a great spot for some comfort food. Got the chicken pot pie pasty today and it was a little dry but still absolutely fabulous and comforting. Today I tried Sonson's Pasty, and wow--just wow! I ordered the chicken pot pie pasty along with the cheese, potato, and onion. I've had pasties a few times before, but never anything this good! The flavors were incredible and so comforting. I also picked up a strawberry rhubarb mini pie (still saving that one to try), but if it's anything like the pasties, I know it'll be amazing. The customer service was just as wonderful as the food. I didn't catch her name, but the person who helped me was friendly, welcoming, and genuinely helpful. That kind of service always leaves a lasting impression. This place is an absolute gem--delicious food and great service. Definitely worth checking out!! read more

This was a bit of a drive for me, but I had to try these! Easy to find location in a strip mall. The owner was super friendly and helpful! There were only two small tables, but I purchased to go along with half cooked frozen ones so I can bake at home. Delicious!!! Steak and cheese, chicken pot pie and breakfast pies. If you have a moment, I'd encourage you to stop by Sonsons Pasty Company in Gilbert or Mesa. I placed an online order today and stopped by to pick up. Simple storefront but very nice staff. It's a great sign when the lady tells you one moment she has to wash her hands AND she was already wearing gloves. They appreciated my crazy and small talk. Was able to pick up my order without issue. When I went to tip another $1 the lady reminded me I already tipped on my online order, again the small stuff. Great integrity to mention that. The extra $1 was intentional, great service! You can get these frozen, pre baked or hot too! Why not travel with a pasty. :) Support local & shop small business when possible. read more

I saw Sonsons on a YouTube video and have been meaning to try it. The lady behind the counter was so nice and friendly! I got the cottage pie for myself, Philly cheese steak for my husband, and 2 sausage rolls for later. My pasty was SO good. The crust was buttery and flaky, the filling was savory and had the right amount of salt. I'm eager to try the other fillings but upset that I didn't get more. read more

I've always ordered from the Mesa location and I'm so glad to see that Gilbert finally has one now as this location is closer to me. I had been craving pasty's for a while now and finally decided to order some via Grubhub. My favorite pasty's are the green chicken chili and the steak and cheese pasty. The green chicken chili was amazing per usual. It was stuffed with plenty of chicken and the crust was nice and crispy. The filling could've used a little more seasoning but after adding salt, I was able to sort of fix it. The gravy also helped a lot. The steak pasty had way more potatoes in it then it did steak. Usually I remember it having a lot more steak but this time it did not :( disappointing. It was not my fave this day. Overall, I will keep ordering pasty's as I can say I'm a big fan. Awesome to see this Pasty place open. They will heat them up for you or you get them frozen and cook at home. Great selection for a reasonable price. I had the Steak for starters and it reminded me of a place back in Michigan when I was a kid. Great flavor and flaky crust. Take about an hour to heat up properly at home but certainly worth the wait. I can see having these stashed in the freezer for the near future. I'm looking forward to trying the other offering. Never realized this had a dine in option, but it does. It has become a regular. This is very authentic style of Pastys, unlike the fancier variety found at many local pubs. You won't get as wide of variety of fillings, but you will get an amazing product. They have great cake as well. The service can slower pace and the eat-in are is limited, but the price point is amazing. Definitely worth dropping in if you fancy a Cornish Patsy. read more

Finally the stars aligned, and I was able to try Sonsons today. I ordered the Chicken Pot Pie pasty, and it is absolutely delicious! It's got that buttery flaky homemade taste and feel, comes with brown gravy for dipping. They were so nice too! I will definitely be coming back, and you should try them out too. Yum! read more

We're so happy Sonsons came to the neighborhood!! These pasties are SO GOOD. They've got limited options hot and ready to eat, or you can purchase "mostly prepared" (needed about 20 more minutes in our air fryer at home), or you can purchase them frozen for later. We tried the chicken pot pie, steak and cheese, and the vegan lentil--they were all delicious. We'll definitely be back!! ***Note: it's a walk up counter, no tables or anything, so best for taking home or on a picnic!! They where tasty and left me wanting to try other flavors i seen. The green chile chicken was tasty but the Steak and Potatoe with some gravy hit the spot. I'm so glad I did. The delicious smell when I walked in was so comforting. The woman there explained what they were and helped me choose.
