Portions too small, even their rice was half the size of other places e.g. BCD but they charge so much. $28 for Kalchi grilled fish for 3 small pieces and banchan side dishes so small. Tasted ok but they'll lose business this way. Delicious Table is better. read more

All I can say is the food is really delicious and reasonably priced. We usually have combo (beef stew and cold noodle), and for less than $30, two people can have a nice meal. I really don't know how they still make profit, allowing this price. Side dishes are tasty as well and waitresses are friendly and ready to serve you. Thank you Sonamu. I can't wait til this pandemic is over so we can dine in again. read more

Tasty authentic Korean food! Family owned with great service. We had the seasoned sliced beef w/ beef bone broth. Super tasty and can easily feed 4 people. read more

This place is in a small plaza a few minutes away from Source mall. It's a hidden gem - a great place to come with family or a big party. The food and side dishes were all made with care and was delicious. I had the bulgogi soup kind of dish with my mom and it was soo filling and reminded me of a rich shabu shabu. I recommend supporting small businesses and giving this place a try. :) read more

Amazing food and service! Took my dad here for fathers day. I would recommend looking at yelp pictures if you don't know what the menu looks like since the menu does not have pictures, but the waiters are kind enough to explain what type of food they have or recommend anything based on what you are looking for. read more

This establishment is the same owners as the GG Hwang Hae Do. Same awesome food. Service is great! Had the rib octapus hot pot but asked to take out the octapus cause we all know a well octapus is just no good, but well cooked rib meat is awesome. Outstanding. 2 thumbs up!. We'll be back for sure. read more

I'm not their family member. And I was not paid to write this review. Korean restaurants are starting to pop up everywhere. But I saw this new place open via the OC Weekly, so I came to give it a try. The staff were very friendly and immediately seated me. I had to get my order to-go, however, when something came up at work. You can imagine my surprise when the staff not only packaged my order perfectly but they doubled the side dishes. Not sure if that was in response to my enormity but I'll take double side dishes any day. The braised beef short ribs were delicious and so were the side dishes. This should last me a couple of days. Jk, maybe two meals. 5/5 would order to-go again. read more

We waited 6 months for the old owners of Hwang Hae Do to open this new restaurant!!! So very happy it's finally open! Back to our home style Korean food! Food is excellent as before! This new location is huge and can accommodate large parties. Very clean. Very open. They do not do tabletop KBBQ anymore. Parking is a lot shared by other businesses. My kids love it! We do miss our old servers tho... but the new ones are just as nice. Get yourself a slurpy next door at 7-11. We will be back very soon! **and no we are not family and we were not paid for this review** (who's the moron who accused others of this?? Ugghh) read more

Went here twice during 2021 for a quick takeout. They had a deal then where they had bibim naengmyeon for $6 and they gave me plenty of banchan. It's super good and everyone is nice. But if you're spending under $10, make sure to have some cash on you!! read more

Growing up eating home-cooked Korean food, it was always difficult to find a Korean restaurant that hit the spot (even in ktown) and made me feel like I was just paying to eat mediocre food that I could make/ get at home. Sonamu has the BEST side dishes I have ever had in any Korean restaurant TO DATE. I ordered the bossam combo with bean stew and the stir fried squid with noodle. Bossam was hands- down the best I have had and priced extremely fairly for the amount you get along with the soup and rice. The stir-fried squid-- a ton of food. Definitely could be shared among at least 3-4 people! Even from LA, this place is WORTH THE DRIVE and the gas $$ and my new go-to restaurant when I'm in the OC area. Also if someone asks me the place to go for authentic Korean food, I'm definitely recommending Sonamu. I never write reviews, but this place checks all the boxes. GOOD PRICES, GOOD PORTIONS, GREAT SERVICE, GREAT AUTHENTIC TASTE!! HIGHLY RECOMMEND read more

Amazing Restaurant /Food & Customer Service! I came here for lunch on Christmas Eve with my significant other & parents. The staff was extremely attentive and kind. Plenty of choices in their lunch menu & everything that we ordered was satisfying. Probably the best thing I ate here was their $22.99 seasoned sliced beef w/ beef broth that included two noodle dishes. More than enough for two people. Highly recommend ^_^ read more

I ordered lunch there on a Saturday. The galbeetang was good. The sides were good. I also ordered galbijjim $40 to go for my son and husband It had the saddest 4 chunks of meat about 5cm by 4cm and 2 additional empty bones. You can't charge 40$ for that anywhere let alone around this area. I'm not cheap. I just feel cheated when my kid is hungry after 40$ read more

From the the friendly welcoming environment to the delicious food. Sonamu is a must when in town! Highly recommend!

Very yummy, the hotpot was similar to sukiyaki and the seafood green onion pancake is the best. A must order.

They have the best cold noodles (my personal favorite) here aside from all other great menus. Fair prices and friendly service. Would definitely recommend! read more

Update: I am updating this review just to say that I am in no way affiliated with the restaurant. I'm not a family member or was paid to write this review. I was eating at this restaurant when it was still The Tofu Shop. Not every good review equals someone's family member. I'm so glad there's an authentic Korean restaurant on my way home from work. I come here once a week to get their seafood tofu stew. For about $12, you get the tofu stew, a bunch of fresh veggie side dishes, a fish filet, and rice. This is an amazing deal! The service is great. They are quick to refill sides and tea/water. Food is fantastic. I always leave too full. Parking is plentiful. This is definitely a good spot if you're wanting some authentic Korean food aro read more

You can dine-in here.  There is 6 feet of social distancing! This restaurant is a hidden gem and a great place to enjoy a meal with friends and love ones The service was great and the staff was very nice. YOU MUST TRY THE COMBOS! They advertise bulgogi special $22.99 + cold noodle included but,it's not valid Saturday, sunday. The server lady should advise us about this exclusion but, they didn't. so we end up pay $25 for cold noodles. They over charge for noodles and,it's not even good. I will not come back here. read more

Took my mom for lunch and enjoyed it. Can't beat $4.99 for full size Naeng myun is a steal. Owner was happy to see us.

We togo-ed gopchang jungol and mandoo. Mandoo was good but their gopchang jungol was hands down the best we had in the states Gop chang was chewy and fresh Soup was perfect! Not too spicy nor salty Banchan was also clean and tasty~ read more

Very good Kimchee stew with lots of side dishes. Friendly service. No longer any Lunch specials, just main menu, but reasonably priced.

The BEST. Food is great, and their service is always just welcoming and accomodating. Whenever I want Korean food, this is always the one. Their combo during the weekdays with the naengmyun and yooksoo bulgogi is so affordable but their quality is also on point!! Their takeout options are awesome as well. They pack all the banchans so nicely. So delicious. Oh yeah, I love their kimchissss. read more

This place is so good and the customer service is great! I love Korean food and this place really delivered!

Get their cold noodles (either one). They make their noodles in-house and has the perfect thinness and texture. Nice clean tasting broth too. $4.99 for dine-in, $5.99 for take out. Better try yours before the deal is off. read more

Sonamu has a variety of dishes and so far the ones I've tried have been awesome. Growing up in Los Angeles (Korea Town) Sonamu is just as good and can go head to head with the best on Olympic Blvd. All the different sides are great too. Great food and great service. Thumbs up! read more

The old owner of Hwang Hae Do in Garden Grove opened this place. Still same great food and good atmosphere with this huge place. Not used to the servers here yet but they're very nice. I was so bummed when they sold the old place but very glad they opened this one up! True authentic homestyle Korean food!! read more

After the new ownership, their foods became totally lower grade. We used to go there often when their name was 'Tofu House'. We usually order their Pork Kalbi, Spicy Fish Soup and Bibim Nangmyun. They used to have healthy and unique side dishes as well. However, now their Pork Kalbi and other dishes are joke. Don't even think that it is the same quality foods as before. Instead of grilling the meat, they probably boiled the meat with water with some sauce. Basically you can taste nothing and the texture of meat was exactly like canned Tuna. The bibim nangmyun was way too sweet. Even the server admitted that the foods are not the same quality as before. She kept apologizing to us, but there was no refund or no replacement whatsoever. We left most our food uneaten, but paid full amount. My biz partner had the similar experience in here. Highly not recommended!!! Btw, the bulgogi and two nangmyun combo deal during the lunch time is ok for the price if you don't mind super sweet taste. read more

Such a great authentic Korean restaurant located at the bedt location. Love the Mandoo Gopchang Stew. There is actually a few more selections you can choose and mix 2 types of stew together. (Minimum 2 order is required though). This right here is the best seller at the place now. Good amount of food and clean place for grand opening. And oh very nice waitresses named Jessica. Sonamu - Tofu, Lettuce, Nakji, Onion, Gopchang, Mandoo, Udon noodle, intestines, etc. - Korean Near Me - Anaheim, California

This place is a JOKE, and there is no way I will ever be coming to this establishment ever again. When my family and I went on an early Friday night, Sonamu was about half-occupied, so it was not busy at all (important to note for the rest of the review). The place was clean and decent-looking enough, which shouldn't be a surprise since the place opened up recently. We placed our order without much incident, but when the food came out, everything was consistently bland. Being a Korean myself, I know what Korean food is supposed to taste like, and every single dish had the same issue of not being flavored properly. The basic ingredients were there, and the dishes served looked like Korean food, but the taste was sorely lacking. So the food wasn't too great, but that doesn't necessarily warrant a 1-star review, right? Okay. Let's talk about the service at this place. Wait, there were waitresses working here? It sure didn't seem like it. There appeared to be 4 "waitresses" working at the time of our dining experience, and one of them even came over to take our order, so this place apparently does have "waitresses"... but after taking our order and giving us our food, we literally never saw a "waitress" come within 10 feet of our table. Now, I've been to Korean restaurants before and I know how they operate (most have the little table calling buttons, and having to raise your hand and voice is not uncalled for; I understand all of this and know that this is what to expect at a Korean restaurant). It's rather difficult to get the attention of a "waitress" when they all avoid eye contact and don't even walk around the restaurant AT ALL (and of course, no table calling buttons). What were these "waitresses" doing instead of doing the bare minimum of patrolling the restaurant grounds? I saw TWO waitresses attempting to look busy by looking over some receipts at the cash register. This was pretty much the only sign that these "waitresses" actually existed, because otherwise they would hide behind the counter and do their best to be seen as little as possible. Oh, and this inattention from the "waitresses" was not isolated to just me and my family; we saw another group of poor souls who had the misfortune of being seated in the "large group" tables in a corner of the restaurant. Someone from this group had to go up TWICE to ask a waitress to come and take their orders after they had been seated. Having to ask once is somewhat excusable, but twice is absolutely not. One could perhaps justify the behavior of the "waitresses" by saying that the place was extremely busy, but, as noted earlier, the place was literally half-full. Simply inexcusable, and one of the worst customer service experiences that I have ever had. Sonamu supposedly has a lunch bulgogi special which is apparently why people talk about this place at all. We didn't get to try it because we went for dinner, but from what we saw, this place has serious organizational issues that warrant never coming back here again. read more

I was worried after reading the reviews before coming to this place. But their service was exceptional!!! They came by our table at least 7 times making sure we were taken care of. Also, the food tasted just like how I remembered at Hwanghedo. I will definitely come back to this place! read more

I used to go to Hwang-hae-do when I was young. So I was so excited that they opened a new place. I guess I should have ordered their signature dish - yuksu bulgogi. Ordered their cold noodle, both style. Not particularly better than other places. Pork katsu was a mistake. I don't know why but the meat and the batter were not together like other katsu. Nothing stand out. Probably not going back. Disappointed. read more
