When I stumbled upon this place I took it as a sign. I arrived 15 minutes before closing at 3:15p (they reopen at 4:30pm). My first time visiting and I had no idea of what to order. So thankful they were able to serve me as they were about to clean the kitchen. I ordered the crispy chicken burger that came with plain fries that I ordered to go. All burgers will have lettuce, tomatoes, avocado, and vegan Mayo. I have noticed that I tend to order a burger of some sort--perhaps, you can call me the Burger Queen. Nice atmosphere and they even had a wall inside with fake grass with a sign that read Something vegan; street parking available. I could not wait to make my food disappear. Thinking back I wish I would have upgraded my bun to the gluten free version. The menu is extensive and had a mix of everything including Asian fusion with curries and Pad Thai. They also serve soups, salads, desserts, and wraps. Next time mushroom/lentil burger with mushroom fries and vegan cheesecake. The curries look amazing as well. Been wanting to come here for awhile, as this place is quite far. We finally paid the establishment a visit and was not disappointed. Seeing from the photos we really wanted to try the portobello mushrooms. So we did. We ordered the mushrooms as well as the bacon fries. It was better than I expected. The flavor was there and it was supper tasty. Not too much not too little, just right. Came here late in the night and the owner was very welcoming, had great service, accommodated our needs and even brought us water while we waited for our togo order. I came here a couple weeks ago with a friend who lives in the area. We both aren't vegan, but she recommended the place and I was so happy she did! I agree with some of the Yelpers here- this place has some of the best vegan meat I've tasted. We had the pumpkin delight and the orange chicken and it was so good! The drinks were also refreshing and perfect for the warm summer day. Since we walked here, I'm not sure how the parking situation is, but there is street parking around here. My wife and I have been coming to Something Vegan for many many years.. it's been a staple of ours for so long. Even before they had AC! :) Everything we have ever ordered here has been absolutely delicious! We bring our out-of-town friends and family here as well, even the non-vegan ones and they are surprised at how delicious it is! We occasionally forget that they close between the hour of 3 and 4 and wind up just walking around Toluca Lake until they reopen. Yes, it's that good. I was surprised that I had never written a review before.... but I had an experience on the phone this afternoon that really took me by surprise.. and it was not a pleasant one - AT. ALL. Hence, my review. My wife and I order salads to go often, we vacillate between a few of them but our go-to are the Kale Caesar with fried tofu added and the Magnum Salad. I always order the Magnum without Kale and replace it with Romaine lettuce- also with added fried tofu. And have for many years. Today.. I called in to place that very order.. and I was told 'sorry we dont do substitutions.." Oh .. well I always substitute Romain for the kale as my system doesnt do well with kale and it's never ever been an issue. "Well, we dont do that" the woman told me. I said," I'm not trying to be argumentative but yes you do lol I've ordered it countless times.. look up my phone number and orders! "No, we dont" she said. I said.. but you make your salads fresh.. so instead of kale just use romaine. "No, no substitutions!" she replied. So, I asked to speak to someone else. I heard the woman explaining the conversation to the other woman and after a few moments she got on the phone and said no we don't substitute. I repeated that I was a very long time customer and that I NEVER EVER had an issue with this and I cant do kale. Nope. We don't do that. THEN,. she said we charge extra for romaine but will not remove the kale. I was flabbergasted. "You won't remove the kale.. so basically your going to make the salad put the kale in, even though I said I cant do kale, and then charge me extra for romaine but will not remove the kale!?? That makes absolutely NO SENSE!" No response. At that point I said is this how you treat long-time customers? Ive been coming since you've been open and she cut me off and said I've worked here since it's been open and we don't substitute. I said well you will not get my business any longer. She replied with arrogance and a condescending tone.. "OK, Have a nice day!" In this day and age when restaurants are closing left and right, this total disrespect and rudeness to a long time customer is truly baffling and unacceptable ! So good to finally come back to sit down here! I ended up getting the Orange Chicken again which is even better when served there 5/5. Yum! Also I ended up trying the Pad See Ew after being a little disappointed with the Pad Thai and it held up! 5/5. I asked for some hot sauce for some more heat but otherwise I thought it was great. We got it with Tofu which was actually kinda crispy? I liked it. COVID: 5/5 They are serving both indoor and outdoor. There's more indoor than outdoor so just beware if you're not comfortable still with it, but its spaced out regardless. I saw them disinfecting after each table was done. They also wear gloves too. I am so delighted with finding such a gem! Wow, the food options are plentiful, and everything I ate was exceptional. Totally blew me away as I tend to feel that when I eat out, it's usually mediocre. The ambiance is so relaxing, and the service was friendly and right on time! I ordered the pumpkin eggplant dish spicy. It had great flavor and solid kick to it. I loved the way they prepared the tofu and, even though I was totally full half way in, I ate it all because the flavor was that good! My husband and I shared the quesadilla appetizer, which has ground "beef" and a really creamy "cheese" sauce that was delectable. I think we sparred over who got the last bite. The golden tofu we ordered was good but I could've lived without it. The chicken sandwich with loaded (bacon and cheese) fries won my husband's affection. He was very happy with this selection and from the bite I got of this sandwich, I see why. It had a nice crunch and great toppings, including avocado! The GRILLED CHICKEN SANDWICH is giant and was noticeably made of vegetable. Unlike the CRISPY CHICKEN SANDWICH which had a crunch that covered a lot of the "vegetable signs". The AWESOME BEEF was made in the style of Asian stir-fried beef with steamed vegetables. The "beef" was salty and tough -- which I don't mind at all. However, the parking spaces are very limited because of the residential area right there. Many spots are always taken and you may take a bit to find suitable parking and that is if you find it close enough. Also the toppings didn't reach all the fries so I asked them for ketchup to go with the bottom half. -- FRIED BANANA I love all things fried and I love bananas so I loved this dessert! I live in the OC and I often come up to Burbank to work. I've been coming here for several years now and I LOVE this spot. I'm not vegan but I often eat plant based during the week. The customer service is great and they remind me of a neighborhood cafe. Locals come here and take out often now due to Covid. But before pandemic it was always busy. And you get a friendly vibe here. I love their Menu. Half Thai and Half not so Thai. All of their food is great My favorites are their Dynamite Wings, Portobello Fries, Tacos (make their own in house nacho cheese sauce), Pad See Ew, Pad Thai, amazing Synergy Salad, Creamy Coconut Soup , and everyone's favorite Heavenly Beef. The food is very consistent. So that's why I'm writing this review. The only thing I would complain prior to coming here would be parking. They don't have their own parking area so you would have to park in the residential area. The shop is right in between 2 streets.
