My partner and I had an early dinner tonight at Islands in Burbank. We are starting a busy weekend working at the Long Beach Grand Prix and wanted to unwind. The happy hour menu was perfect. Our server Caitlyn was very pleasant and attentive and the food was excellent. Every server who walked by, whether bringing food or just passing by, stopped to ask how everything was, did we need anything, and were we enjoying our meal. Is this elevated chain restaurant dining? I try to rate things for what they are. Contextually, you'd think Islands is at the level of Denny's and IHOPs of the world. It is above par. I consider Islands a step above them all. I've had it locally in the SGV, in Arizona, and at this Burbank location over the years and it never fails. Islands is consistent, down to the Hawaiian decor and furniture at each restaurant. Burgers will be abundant. Bottomless fries and their fry seasoning are a must. I enjoyed happy hour special nachitos, a chili cheeseburger, and my go-to Diet Coke (don't judge me). The service was fast. The food was hot and substantial. The TVs all had different sporting events on to keep me entertained by men tossing orbs in various fashions. "Solid Burgers, Free Guac Wins, and Laid-Back Island Vibes." I finally made it to the Islands Restaurant in Burbank and honestly, it's still such a solid spot for a areat meal. The tropical, surf-themed vibe is always a mood lifter. especially if vou're iust looking to unwind. I iust wish they could have put the sound of the ocean somewhere however they could stop there and not place the smell or the sound of the seagulls anyway moving on the secret here is to log into their rewards app as soon as you sit down. Just for signing up/checking in, they usually hook you up with free chips and salsa and guacamole which once you show the code to the server she will take it off your bill at the end of your visit. This salsa has a little kick to it, and those chips are warm and crunchy, the guacamole is really creamy but vou have to put their secret seasoning into it to give this guacamole its best life. FREE Chips and salsa and Guac.. is always the way to start things without spending any money For the main courses we shared the Hawaiian burger (their classic bacon cheeseburger with a pineapple slice and teriyaki sauce). The bacon was perfectly crispy and works with their juicy patties. lf you're a fan of a good, messy burger, this is it! We also shared an order of wings, (Barbecue flavor). They came out kinda warm,not hot which was a slight disappointment) but had that perfect crispy exterior while staving tender on the inside. The BBQ sauce was super flavorful with the house ranch. The service was friendly and still surprisingly quick for a non busy afternoon, and since it's right near the parking structures in downtown Burbank, it's super convenient. But there is parking on the street as long as it's not longer than 2 hours I believe definitelv check for vourself on the parkina situation however this place is Definitely worth a stop if you're in the area and want something reliable and tasty. read more

Islands Burbank used to be one of my haunts in college. My friends and I would drive over from CSUN & spend way too much time here eating burgers and having a great time. Some things have changed, but the overall vibe, quality of food, and friendly service remains the same decades later. I will say parking can be less than ideal. This location is in a very busy area next to one of the most popular theaters in the country so the surrounding parking structures fill up fast. Especially on weekends and summer. Plan for extra time to park. The other big disappointment is that the fries are no longer endless. Island has some of my favorite restaurant fries and I always loved eating them until the very second we stood up to leave. They were like the chips and salsa at Mexican restaurants: old reliable that was always there to fill you up. Now, you pay per refill and that's just a huge blow to the greatness that is Islands in my opinion. The Shorebird burger is one of my favorite burgers anywhere. Yes, it's chicken but it's always juicy and well cooked. it's complemented so well by the mayo and other toppings. I know Island has a lot of great burgers and dishes, but in my opinion, Shorebird is the gold standard on the menu. You need to check it out. In all, Islands Burbank continues to be a great Island location. It's no longer my closets location, but because of the nostalgia, great staff, and location to other amenities, it's one I still find myself going back to all these years later. read more

With a hint of spicy kick, it was a warm welcome to my belly and my soul. Hungry? On a tight budget? This is one great deal, too. And it's chock full of good stuff. Lots of hearty chicken and vegetables in each spoonful, and then it's all topped with jack & cheddar cheeses, fresh avocado, and lime tortilla strips. We're regulars. Every menu item we've tried has been great. I especially like the bowls, as well as the China Coast salad, and my husband loves that the beers are served at the perfect temperature: cold! My best friend and I frequent Islands in Burbank and we like to go for happy hour, at the bar area. There is a great server/ bartender named Deanna and she knows what we like every time we go, and gets it just right. The food is great, anything from their delicious salads to their mouthwatering burgers. The drinks are delicious and a nice variety of tropical style drinks, such as maitais and blue ocean. The atmosphere is pleasant. We can usually find a table and they have sports on their large TVs, such as Lakers or Dodgers games. Fun crowd and great service! Highly recommended. A staple in downtown Burbank for decades that has continued to survive and keep its relaxed and original vibe. Though from a food and service perspective, maybe it's time to upgrade that to current times. While I've always appreciated the island vibes and somewhat simpler menu offerings, it is no longer delivered with the same quality and consistency as before. As with many guests, the cheese fries are a must have, though as of late, the quality of the food has been lackluster at best. The fries have been overcooked, or the cheese has been burned twice to the point it's barely edible and questionable why it was even served seeing the dish. So not sure whether the simple recipe has changed or they just can't execute a simple appetizer of fries and cheese. The burgers and chicken sandwiches are good and have remained unchanged. While they can be messy with the sauces, the flavor is still there. Only issue in this aspect is they often don't cook the burger as requested. My last medium well burger had more pink than a medium version and was inconsistent throughout the patty, which was even more odd. While this place will continue to hold nostalgia over 2 decades of coming here, the visits seem to decline over the years as the price/service is no longer commensurate with the experience. As an extra sidenote, their rewards program is horribly clunky at best. You are supposed to scan a barcode on the receipt that is not even printed there and just trying to get points for your spend is almost more hassle than it's worth, yet after spending a couple hundred dollars here every few months, would like to get something back for my spend. The servers Grant, Donavan and Brandan always provide great customer service at the Porter ranch location. They check on us through out the dining experience. Went here before a long weekend for lunch. I chose to select an item from the lunch menu - for me I selected the tacos. Its the same portion from the regular menu but for lunch its about $3 cheaper. My friend got the protein bowl - this was not on the lunch menu. Both meals were great. Our waiter checked on us several times was nice when we asked for more salsa and more sauce. Service is quick and fast, but you don't feel rushed out of there. You walk into Islands and definitely feel transported to that island life. While we didn't get it this time we have previous had a Mai tai or another one of their "island like" cocktails. Its always a fun time. Island's has what I think the wvat lunch time specials around. I was/still am super disappointed they took the chicken wrap off the lunch time menu, it was a staple, but they have quite a few other options that are all yummy and don't break the bank. Service is the only thing that is hit or miss, more miss that hit. You will usually see the same servers, but some of them are very disgruntled, and you can tell there is tension between the staff which makes it very uncomfortable. In any case, during my most recent lunch time visit, I ordered the patty melt with French fries and my friend out the turkey big wave with French fries. We also got the passionfruit iced tea, and as someone who doesn't normally like or go for iced tea anywhere, that is the only thing I drink at Island's, its that good. The food was good. I probably won't get the patty melt again since it was extremely oily, but I have had their Mediterranean bowl, mainlander salad and soup and salad combo and have loved all of those, which also happen to be far healthier and protein packed. I always like the decor and vibes at Island's, yoy literally feel liek youre at an island and instantly feel relaxed. This location is nearby a couple of parking structures. The interior has a fun Hawaiian/tropical theme. The food arrives quick. The service was fine. You do get an option of wheat or white buns for the burgers. The patties can only be cooked down to medium. I got the hula burger. It was pretty good although the mushrooms seems overly seasoned. These burgers are usually big and they come with a good amount of fries. It should fill you up or leave you with leftovers. This definitely a safe spot to visit with family for a meal. When we arrived the manager said " service dogs only " we said he is a service dog, proceded to sit us ... Islands, 2007: Elephant Bar was across the street. A bustling Sears anchored the mall. I could have taken a blurry picture of my food with my pink Razr. Before earlier this year, I hadn't been to Islands Burbank since the late Aughties, but I'm happy to report it's still a fun spot for a burger. We stopped in on a Sunday afternoon after a movie at the AMC. There were plenty of families, but there was no wait, and we were seated in a quiet area by ourselves. We ordered the tropical drink flight - Deep Blue Sea, Mai Tai, Big Island Iced Tea, Ship Wreck. They were all delicious, and surprisingly (as I don't usually like Long Island iced teas), the Big Island Iced Tea was the best. We ordered burgers, the Malibu (bacon burger) and the Kilauea, which was a "jalapeño and black pepper-crusted patty" with jack cheese, chipotle aioli, and "Island Reds" - fried red onions. They gave me a Mauna Loa-sized heap of the Island Reds, most of which I scraped to the side. The spice-packed patty overpowered many bites of the burger with a dense peppercorn taste. Overall, it was a nice burger - a dollop of ketchup offset the peppery taste somewhat. Both sides of fries were hot and crisp, served with a thick, smoky BBQ sauce. We'd come back to try more menu items. So many chains have come and gone throughout downtown Burbank, but I'm glad this one is still there. Mahalo. read more

I stopped in for lunch with a fried from out of town and we really enjoyed our experience. There was plenty of parking at that time of day and we walked in and were seated immediately. My first impression was that the restaurant was very clean. Islands has a beach vibe and plays surfing videos on their TV's with a relaxed beach style music playing throughout the restaurant. Our waitress was awesome and took care to make sure we had a pleasant experience and everything we needed. The burgers were delicious. I ordered the Hawaiian which is my favorite! We arrived for a late lunch on a Sunday and learned thereis All Day Happy Hour at the bar area, so we went there! There was a football game so it was a bit noisy, but we didn't mind. We both ordered 3 mini sliders with added cheese from the HH menu. We ordered regular fries from the main menu to share. We were both so impressed with the carmelized onions and crispy onions, pickles amd more on these sliders. This trio of mini sliders were around $8 each! They were quite filling so we took 1 mini slider home along with the leftover fries. Our server waa so attentive and had a great attitude!
