I never met a taco I didn't like, and today was no exception at Tocaya. We tried the Quesabirria, chicken, Tinga and steak tacos and had the chips and guacamole. All were great, but the Quesabirria was our favorite. Huge fan of the fresh-pressed tortillas. Everything was fresh and delicious. Plus, bonus points ta for them carrying Diet Coke.

    Great chips, nice crunch!

This review comes from a regular customer. The fish tacos, I mean the fish stick tacos I was served for lunch today were unacceptable. I love this location, but not unconditionally. It may be hard to have a certain consistency with fish tacos, but you cannot serve this to your customers. Either send it back to the vendor or don't serve it at all. These fish stick tacos we're embarrassing and for $6 a taco, this is not cool.

This place confused me. I'm not sure where it fits in terms of the food space. My first thought was - this is fast casual Mexican food. But then I realized chipotle already exists. My second thought was - the pitch is slightly elevated chipotle. And indeed, I think that is what this place attempts. The only issue is that chipotle tastes better and is cheaper... much cheaper. (and the bar ain't too high here). I'm crawling through every place in Toluca Lake and this was next on my list. So... Read on for my detailed experience. Ambiance 3/5 Walking in. It's on riverside right next door to mendo farms. It's close to the ucla med center and what I am guessing is a bunch of writers rooms offices for Netflix romcoms. It was semi crowded but not crazy. It's an open space that feels okay. Kinda fake veneer everywhere but it's clean and welcoming. There's a menu up front and it's a pay to order / take a number table service style place. Off to the side on a wall, sorta messy and unorganized, are napkins, take home containers, and various salsas and condiments. Service 3/5 Nothing good or bad here. The staff was distant but efficient. Not friendly or mean. Just people going about their day doing their jobs. The food came out fast so I can't knock that. Food 1/5 Here's the rub! This is actually my second time eating Tocaya. The first time was at work, ordered a bowl that came to my office. It was super mid. So I wanted to see if it was a fluke. This time I ordered a california burrito. Which was carne asada, potatoes, guac and some sauces. I have some dietary restrictions so I asked and they put the crema to the side. The burrito itself is 17.99. I asked for extra meat and it was 22 dollars. Look I know America is going down the tubes, but since we've reached the 22 dollars for a burrito at a semi fast food joint era - it better be good. But the thing is. Everything here LOOKS good. But it's all so flavorless and bland. It's probably some of the worst "Mexican" food I've ever had. I've grown up in LA and I'm down with anything from authentic street food to del taco. It all has its place. But 22 dollars for a super bland burrito (with no sides for that cost!). Nope! We also ordered some queso and somehow again it LOOKED promising. But it tasted so, so bland. And heavy. I actually took some of their free street corn sauce as a side and dipped the chips and it tasted better. So just get chips. It's a better hack. My girlfriend was with me and could barely eat her meal. So I'm not alone in this! But I did look around and other people did seem to eat here. So am I living in some kind of bizzaro world or something? Am I wrong here? I dunno. I just know it's expensive AF and for that cost I at least want my food to taste okay. I guess I'll just go across and down the street to chipotle next time! This place is a pass for me and my wallet. (The iced tea was okay and the only highlight) Overall 2/5 stars because the place is clean and serves edible food.

Went here because I got a flyer with some coupons. I used the 2 bowls, 50% off. This place is easy to miss. When we were driving down Riverside Dr. we were keeping an eye out, but still missed it. It's next to Bob's Big Boy, but sandwiched in-between other shops, a pair of trees, and there's a bus stop shelter covering the front. Anyway...I ended up parking my car on a residential street and we just walked it, trying to find it that way. Once you find it, it has a nice outdoor area and inside it's clean and modern with a wall of plants. You can go to the counter to order or use the QR code at the tables. Everything looks healthy, which is great if you're vegan/vegetarian like me or a meat eater like my sister since there's options for both. We were given a number and the food was brought out to our table fairly quickly. The portions are big enough to take some home and the food tastes great. My stomach was growling before we got here and I was sure I'd be able to finish it all, but still had some leftovers, which is good since it is a little expensive. There's also agua frescas to drink, which also tasted good, and were pleasantly surprised that they came in cute mason jars with a handle that you can take home. Overall, it was a good experience except for trying to find the place and parking.

MEXI CALI CAESAR CHIX with a Grasshopper in it

GRASSHOPPER IN THE SALAD I placed a Doordash order to this location and I rarely leave reviews, but my experience was so awful that I had to. I ordered the Mexi Cali Caesar Chix Salad, ate a few bites, and then saw that there was an entire fully intact GRASSHOPPER in my salad. The body, eyeballs, and legs were clearly visible. I know for a fact that it was the restaurant and not the dasher, due to the fact that the bag was fully sealed before I opened it. I understand these things can happen, but the grasshopper was so large and fully embodied, it blows my mind that someone could miss that when making the salad. It was literally bigger than some of the chicken pieces. This clearly leads me to believe that the lettuce wasn't washed properly. I was absolutely disgusted and will never dine at this Tocaya or any other Tocaya again.

VEGAN OPTIONS!!!!! VERY LOUD MUSIC...... We asked them to turn it down and they did . Two tacos were tofu. The tofu was a little spicy, but it was OK. Maybe just seasoning the tofu not just making it spicy will be good. Garlic powder, onion powder, some and pepper maybe a little bit of dry herbs then sauté it. And one I believe was jackfruit, but they were all good. I came all the way from Canyon country so you know they must be good. I will be back. Oh, and I ordered tortilla soup to go.

This place is incredible! My partner and I frequent here for Taco Tuesday. They have amazing happy hour deals (dine-in only), attentive, helpful, and quick service, oh and everything we've tried has been sooo good! Do yourself a favor and try everything on the menu you can Spoiler: the guacamole has pomegranate which is an absolute game changer

Went in Sunday night and the place was almost empty. We got the chips, salsa, guacamole, tocaya salad, guiltless quesadilla, and street corn en fuego. Everything tasted amazing except for the tocaya salad that had water sitting on the bottom and some of the lettuce was frozen but didn't say anything. We also had the cucumber mint I believe and the hibiscus drinks which were great.

Had a lovely meal here for Taco Tuesday! I am so thankful for the wonderful vegan options and love that the cauliflower taco is default vegan! I also love how easily most menu items can be veganized! I got a trio of tacos for less than $8 and they were so filling! I really love the vegan crema sauce! The service was friendly and helpful and everyone I interacted with had such a great energy. Despite it being dinner time, there were still ample tables available and it felt very spacious. The seating was also very comfortable. I love the decor and cleanliness here. I will be back very soon!

Going in to Forman's Whiskey Tavern, I had 5 choices from the menu that looked amazing to me: 1. TAVERN SALAD with manchego, apple, candied pecans, and a champagne vinaigrette. 2. GRILLED CHEESE sweetened with butternut squash and a sage brown butter. 3. TAVERN (Impossible) BURGER with avo, arugula, pickled onion, and honey mustard dressing. 4. BISTRO (Impossible) BURGER which is like the French Onion Soup of burgers on a challah bun. 5. PATTY MELT, but I'd let my carnivorous side indulge with beef vs. Impossible meat. Thankfully the menu special that greeted me at the front door reaffirmed my choice that I should choose a burger. The Weekday Special from 12-3pm: Any Burger or Sandwich, Side of Fries or House Salad, and a pop was just $16. Plus, the bartender encouraged me that the burgers are really good. So the TAVERN BURGER with Impossible meat, a side green salad, and a lemonade needed no coin toss for me to be decisive. Ordering my meal at the bar was easy, there was no line, and service was quick. I loved that it was chill for a mid-week lunch hour. However, I imagine it gets busy later on in the afternoon and during a non-holiday week. Most of LA was already heading out to campsites for the 4th of July week from what it seemed. Beyond the burger, I really loved the fun decor. Inside, it felt like a Southern Hunting Lodge with its trophies hanging on the wall. Outdoors, it had my kind of charm with its lush greenery, flowering blooms, rustic decor, and picnic-style benches that felt like you're in someone's backyard. I'm sure the big tree in the center helps make the twinkle lights amazing at night. Plus, if you bring your furry friend (service dog) then the outdoor patio is a nice place to chill, and there's a bowl of fresh water just for them. As for drinks, there are plenty of beer choices on tap from Old Rasputin Stout to IPAs. Malbec and Opolo Zin looked enticing too. Since this is a Whiskey Tavern, there are lots of options ranging from low to high-end spirits to choose from. I recommend you take a peek at their menu beforehand to avoid deliberating for a while before choosing the one that speaks to you.

First of all, I love the artwork. That is what convinced me to try this particular Granville when the first three were OK but nothing special. This one is. Second, the place is vast and beautifully decorated inside (see my pix). The temperature, the music (80s), the furnishings (brick, stone, glass, metal, wood -- all top quality), the plants, and the service were exceptional. Third, if you are up for it, there is valet parking even for weekend brunch. This is nice because the neighborhood is a little grungy and that saves stepping over the things on the sidewalks that should really be cleaned up by the city. Fourth, the menu keeps evolving. Everything we had there was for the first time. All of it was perfect. Beautifully plated, served at the right temperature, fresh and well seasoned, delicious. Dre, our server, was all smiles and so efficient, she seemed to float around. She made the experience lively and fun. This is a big space and yet, even on an off day at an off hour, people were streaming in the entire time we were there, almost filling it up. Whoever designed the place knew how to bring in just the right light so everything glowed and was brightly mysterious, iykwim? It was a perfect experience from start to finish. Since I remembered there were open reservations, I stepped outside to make a reservation that was still open for 15 minutes from when we were told there was a 45 minute wait. We wandered the block for the 15 minutes and then went back. I stated I had a reservation and then we were told that "our manager actually just closed the reservations right after you guys stepped out". OpenTable still had reservations open. I don't understand why a business would not want customers to dine in, in this day and age, and economy. They must be doing pretty well to be turning paying customer away!

    - Broken Compass Tiki…read more My girlfriend and I absolutely loved Broken Compass Tiki. I originally found it on TikTok, followed up with a few YouTube videos, and knew I had to check it out the next time we were in Burbank. It completely lived up to the hype. Parking can be a little challenging since it's in Burbank, but we got lucky and found a street parking spot nearby. If you don't get as lucky, driving around the block or into the surrounding neighborhood should eventually turn something up. We arrived about 20 minutes after they opened, and there were already several people inside. By the time we left, the place was filling up quickly, so it's definitely a popular spot. I surprised my girlfriend by keeping the destination a secret and just telling her we were going somewhere fun with a unique theme. She loved it. From the moment we walked in, the service was outstanding. Both the bartender and our server were incredibly welcoming. Our server asked whether it was our first visit and took the time to ask what kinds of drinks we normally enjoy before making recommendations. I really appreciated that he wasn't just trying to upsell us. Instead, he explained why he thought certain cocktails were better choices based on our preferences, and every recommendation ended up being spot on. As you'd expect from a tiki bar, the cocktail menu is heavily rum-focused, but there are also non-alcoholic drinks, a small beer selection, and wine available if rum isn't your thing. I ordered the Zombie Magic first, which was delicious and definitely packed a punch. After that, I tried the 100 Year Cigar, a Scotch-based cocktail that was perfect for slowly sipping. Both drinks were fantastic. My girlfriend ordered the Painkiller and the Navy Grog, and she loved both of them. We started with the Shut It Polly wings, crispy chicken wings tossed in a spicy Thai peanut sauce, and they were outstanding. We also ordered the Aloha Dippers with the Cajun seasoning. I paired mine with the Chipotle Citrus Aioli, while my girlfriend chose the Firecracker sauce. Both dipping sauces were excellent and complemented the fries really well. For our entrées, I ordered the Pub Burger with Irish cheddar, onion strings, and horseradish aioli, cooked to order. It was excellent. My girlfriend ordered the Shrimp & Lobster Roll, and we both enjoyed it. The only item that didn't quite meet our expectations was the macaroni salad that came with our meals. We've had some incredible macaroni salad at Hawaiian restaurants, and this one just didn't quite compare. It certainly wasn't bad, but it was the one part of the meal that didn't stand out. One thing that really impressed me was how accommodating the staff was regarding my raw fruit allergy. I explained what I could and couldn't safely eat or drink, and our server took it seriously. He made sure every cocktail recommendation was safe for me without sacrificing flavor or experience. That level of attention made me feel comfortable ordering drinks I otherwise might have avoided. The décor is also worth mentioning. The pirate-themed exterior transitions into a fun pirate-and-tiki atmosphere inside that really adds to the experience without feeling overdone. Overall, this place exceeded our expectations. The drinks were strong and creative, the food was excellent, the service was some of the best we've had in a long time, and the atmosphere was a blast. There are still plenty of cocktails on the menu that I'd like to try, so we'll definitely be back the next time we're in Burbank.

The servers brought out water dishes and treats on a silver tray for the dogs- true service! I missed happy hour, but tried a themed cocktail, the onion rings, and the truffle burger. It was all great! My friends and I enjoyed the atmosphere and the food and our server was great. It seemed like a lot of regulars were there, which helped contribute to the overall good vibes. Dog friendly- YES! We loved it!

That says a lot about the staff. Our server, she was a young lady, was on top of everything and really made our time here enjoyable. I came here for happy hour on a Tuesday was surprised to find out they do $2 tacos and $5 margaritas. Let me tell you, the tacos are delicious and the margaritas are STRONG. It's a hell of a good time. I really enjoyed the chicken taco and carne asada taco. The meats were juicy and very flavorful. I also ordered their nachos, chili cheese fries and bread pudding. The nachos were made perfectly with the chips being thin and crispy. They used a couple different cheeses and the jalapeños were a nice touch. Definitely ordering it again, I can do without the chili cheese fries. It was good but it wasn't amazing. Their bread pudding was HUGE and I can see why it's one of the popular items here. The bread was crispy on the outside and soft and gooey in the inside. Morrisons is definitely a fun place to be. Perfect to enjoy happy hour, catch the games on, and hang out friends. They have plenty of seating inside and outdoor with heat lamps. They are dog and kid friendly as well

The food has been good during my visits. Some of my favorites are the sliders, parmesan fries and chicken wings. Check out the drink specials, the classic margarita, spicy passionfruit Paloma and bouquet of roses are tasty. Harvey the bartender is awesome. You may get a magic trick out of him on a good night. There is a 23% gratuity charge for a group of 6 or more. I was not happy about this on one of my visits, specifically because I was not informed by a waitstaff. Nice place, low key location, great service and good food.

Located inside Hotel Amarano (also a hidden gem), FYC (For Your Consideration) emits a classy ambience and a cozy vibe. This is a place where celebrities will come to dine because their privacy is respected. It's intimate enough for date night but also a perfect spot to catch up with friends. Of course, Te-See & I are always dressed to the nines regardless of where we go, but this time our fashionable wardrobe was the perfect attire for this chic lounge. Libby (director of sales & marketing) even came over to tell us how fabulous we both looked. We had an enjoyable conversation with her, and she told us many wonderful things about Hotel Amarano. I'll definitely recommend it to visitors and may even book a staycation for myself. Norm the bartender was friendly and attentive - engaging us with lively banter. I had the Bouquet of Roses - a refreshing combination of Kettle One Peach & Orange Blossom vodka, Lillet Rosé, Rosé wine, & peach purée. It was perfect for the summer evening. Te-See had the Spicy Passionfruit Paloma - minus the spicy. It was also very tasty. Anton also had the Paloma but spicy. I compared the two and liked the spicy version better. I had to leave before food was ordered but my friends said that the Shrimp Cocktail and Parmesan fries were delicious and ample enough to share. I really liked the vibe of this place and look forward to coming back. *Valet for the hotel or street parking.
