So happy to have found a great breakfast spot. Charming place with ample indoor and outdoor seating. We started by sharing a blueberry scone and it was delicious. It was actually hard to decide on just one bakery item - everything looked delicious. Next time the coffee cake will be happening. I got poached eggs, bacon, potatoes and toast. Husband got a hash omelette. Both come with a lovely little side of greens with a great dressing. Brunch isn't brunch without a little libation, so I had a lovely French white wine and he had a French red. The wine list though small by the glass is chosen very well. We were hoping they sold their bread at the bakery because it's absolutely delicious. Service is warm and friendly. Price point for breakfast with tip was $100. Got the short rib and it was so delicious, perfect amount of cheese, grease, meat, and again delicious bread. They give a lot of fries as well. Service wise they are nice but I really don't like how it's expensive yet you don't get sit down service. It's all order yourself get your own water, napkins etc.. The food can be very good here, if you dine in. And when you are dining in, the staff is great. Different story with deliveries. I am recovering from a leg injury, and really wanted the great kale quinoa salad. Since walking is quite difficult at the moment, I decided to place a delivery order. It took a while, but the salad was finally delivered, but when I opened the package I was surprised by the look of the salad. It seemed to have a topping of bread crumbs, but upon inspection I saw that it was a small little dump of quinoa. Hmmm, usually there are lovely shavings of Parmesan, but nope. There was a smidge of Parmesan, not the usual amount. But the real failure was the missing sunflower seeds! Whaaaat???!!! I paid $27 for a bunch of kale and lettuce with a couple tbs of quinoa and a few Parmesan shavings?! I called just to see how they would handle the situation. First I was hung up on, before speaking. Then I was put through to catering though I pushed #6, the general number choice. I was then transferred to someone else (not sure which dept) and I explained about the missing sunflower seeds. After checking with the kitchen he confirmed that yep, they ran out of sunflower seeds. He said I could get $.50 refund, and he would transfer me to another number. The phone rang for several minutes but no one picked up. My painkiller turned me into a total "Karen", because I expected so much more from a favorite place. Oh, well, there are other places. Though that kale quinoa salad is really good when it works. Just don't trust their delivery. read more

Such a solid spot for breakfast, coffee or lunch in Toluca Lake. The inside of the restaurant is spacious and while it's casual, it feels more elevated than your average breakfast spot. Plenty of outlets if you want to come by with your laptop! I usually come on weekdays and it's not super busy. You order at the counter and then they bring your food out to you. I love their coffee drinks and I've never had a meal here I didn't like. Most recently I had the breakfast hash and it was delicious! It came with salad and toast so it was a pretty big meal. They have lots of healthy salad options for the health conscious folks and pastries for those with a sweet tooth! It's a great place to take people for a variety of menu options. My family and I decided to stop by Sweetsalt in a Sunday evening. Unbeknownst to us, after a certain time (dinner?) it turns into a sit down restaurant with table service rather than the order at the counter and take your number and sit version we had experienced previously. The mood is somewhere between romantic and chic in the evening. We ordered an assortment of items including hamburgers but this the woodfired pizza stood out. I didn't see a lot of dinner reviews so I thought I'd try it. We made a reservation on Resy but it wasn't necessary there was plenty of seating available. It's cute and has a nice wine bar, open seating area with hard floors means it can get loud when full. The service was pretty good, they have happy hour daily for wine and beer and select food. What we ordered: appetizer was garlic shrimp which was a bit disappointing with six small shrimp in some sauce. Good flavor but it was just ok. Next came our entrees which were truffle cavetteli pasta and the wild lemon glaze halibut. Both of these options were excellent! The halibut had great flavor and a good portion. We also had dessert of warm butter cake and an affogado coffee. One thing to point out is they have table service during dinner. It is definitely worth venturing out to if you're in the neighborhood, a chill vibe with fresh food. read more

In my ongoing quest to canvass all of Toluca Lake for food reviews, I tried Sweetsalt again for lunch yesterday. This is my third time there, I went once for breakfast and once for a lunch meeting. Service is fine. 4/5. You order up front and they bring the food to you. I have found both times I've went that the cashiers were busy doing something so even though there was no line I had to wait about 5 min for service. Not the biggest deal. Food usually comes prompt. Atmosphere 3/5. This place looks really pretty on the inside. Has some outdoor seating on riverside. It's sorta elevated fast casual. Feels like a kit store made from left over parts from old mimis restaurants. My only real issue is its high ceilings. It gets very loud fast. This seems to be a trend with places these days, but I prefer to hear the person I am dining with. Food 3/5. It's just... ok. I had a breakfast once and it was fine. Had a salad once and it was fine. Yesterday I ordered their Brussel and kale tacos with double chicken (which totaled like almost 30 bucks!). My partner had a caprese with chicken and it was super dry! Portion sizes are good. Coffee is also just ok. Lots of better options nearby. So the food is... fine. But so so expensive. Again it's like, am I getting my money's worth? I can go to TJs down the street, get about 20 meals that taste better, go home and heat them up. Not sure if it's me or restaurants in general in these times but I'm just not finding the quality to be worth the cost. Go here for a quick breakfast or brunch or maybe a meeting. Grabbed my number, took a few steps where I cured my coffee, needed additional napkins and my hot sauce. Next thing I know, this lovely plate was presented. I normally do not post a review, and I love the Sweetsalt, however this morning I ordered over the phone for a pickup their Breakfast Burrito. When I opened it at home it was very greasy, the grease was dripping from the burrito and my hands were always greasy and I had to keep wiping them after every bite, and then washing my hands after I ate it . The salad that is accompanied with the burrito had welted lettuce only. There are many places I can purchase a breakfast burrito if I want the grease, but I come to Sweetsalt spend a little more for a healthier breakfast. Whoever put together my breakfast burrito on 6/10 at 8:30 am maybe you need to go work at the local greasy spoon. When we wanted to place the order at the counter, the made us feel like we were the distraction with him talking to other staff members. No focus at all. We did go there for dinner once and had a nice dinner that was very good and so was the service. Dinner is table service and lunch is order at the counter and they bring it to you. We decided to sit outside in front by the street. It wasn't too noisy. My spouse ordered a lentil/vegetable soup. He let me try it. I had to agree with him. Very watery in my opinion but also extremely tasteless. Absolutely nothing to write home about. I ordered a grilled cheese sandwich and an orange juice. It wasn't bad. But it came with some greens. I assumed it was a side salad. But either they forgot the dressing or they don't like to share much of it. I tasted just plane green lettuce. Nothing else. After we got the food. You order at a cashier and then they bring the food to you in less than 5 minutes. The fig and prosciutto sandwich was pretty good and I enjoyed the honey lavender matcha latte which had a fairly prominent lavender flavor. Sandwich could've been bigger or a bit more filling given that between the drink, sandwich, tip, and tax, my meal cost over $33. Business must be good, as they've also expanded to a bigger, brand new location just a couple blocks down from where they used to be. Despite living within walking distance, my dinner here just a couple weeks ago was actually my first time stopping in. I'm glad I finally decided to visit, because the food is great! To eat, I ordered the Margherita "Wood Oven" Pizza. Priced at $20, it's not the cheapest in town, but the quality is certainly elevated. The size is also fairly substantial. The decor/ambience is warm and inviting, and while service was on the slower side, everyone was helpful and friendly. If looking for a nice spot to grab some food at around Toluca Lake, Sweetsalt is a solid option. I will likely be back soon to try more of their menu items. read more

Have tried a few different meals from here, all to go which might have hurt. First time was a sandwich - can't remember if it was the Truffle Chicken or the Pesto, but it was very dry and flavorless. Next time, got the Black Garlic Chicken which was very unflavorful, and came in a soup which was a bit weird of a choice -- would've preferred it with a sauce or reduction to bring out the flavor more. The bread it came with was great though. Today I had the ($22) short rib omelet, that came with almost no meat, just onions and big, chunky, flavorless potatoes. I sent it back and they kindly replaced it with the ($18) breakfast burrito (no potatoes). I asked they add a couple extra strips of bacon to make up for the cost difference. The agreed. The burrito came out with two slices of bacon and barely any cheese. The eggs and salsa were good. Overall an experience that will drive me over to Red Maple or Bob's next time. Dropped by Sweetsalt in Studio City for a quick dessert stop, and while I didn't try the full menu (yet!), I wanted to share a first impression. I had one of their house-made desserts and flavor-wise, it was excellent, balanced, fresh, and satisfying without being overly sweet. That said, the presentation was just okay. Nothing Instagram-worthy in my eyes, which was a bit surprising given how photogenic spots in this area usually are. Still, tasted good, and this definitely delivered where it counts. This was the cutest place to grab brunch with my bestie. Deceptively small from the street entrance, the interior had lofty ceilings and lots of marketplace style places to sit. I've have visited Sweetsalt for brunch many times (both in their new and old locations) and always enjoyed their delicious offerings and friendly staff. Decided to try them out in the evening recently and sadly cannot report the another positive experience - due to the extreme rudeness we received from Mara, a member of the staff (unsure if she was a server/manager/host). From the moment we walked in, we were greeted by an icy demeanor, followed by sheer rudeness for the duration of our time spent here. Maybe she was having a bad day, but nonetheless, we did not deserve to be on the receiving end of her bitter attitude. We won't let this deter us from enjoying time spent in your establishment in the future. But please talk to Mara and coach her on how to be more welcoming to patrons of yours - it costs nothing to be nice. read more

For our main course, we ordered the burger and the lobster pasta as well as the bacon and fig pizza. The pizzas are where it's at. The restaurant slowly began to pick up. More tables were seated and the majority of guests had ordered a pizza or two for their meal. Pizzas are the deal at Sweetsalt. They do a nice job on them. Staff were all friendly. Our server was kind and attentive, especially when it wasn't busy yet. The atmosphere is upscale casual. It's a good spot for the homeowners of Toluca Lake to walk down for dinner and walk home. I normally really love coming here for the matcha latte but they were out today and so i asked for a doppio macchiato ristretto. This isn't some made up drink you can go into a Starbucks and they will make it you could go into a cafe in Italy and they will make it. To explain for management bc for some reason they don't train their baristas. Doppio means two shots. Macchiato means a small amount of steamed milk. And the most egregious offender ristretto means restricted utilizing the first half of the pull of the espresso shot which means a less bitter shot of espresso. If you don't know how to make the drink you should say i don't know how to make the drink instead of guessing that what im asking for is a single shot cortado even though i explained and said no i don't want a cortado i want a macchiato a small amount of steamed oat milk double shot just I'd like it to be ristretto. It is so offensive to pay almost $6 for this bitter sour not creamy or smooth double shot of espresso and I'm really tired of restaurants essentially scamming the community out of money by overcharging and not either being able to deliver or purposely choosing not to deliver and to clarify in case the barista claims that oh it was a busy morning. It was not busy. I was the only person placing an order until the very end when she walked to over to "make" a drink she had no clue how to make. At the very least she could have used her phone to look up what a ristretto is. It's literally an open book test. Also this wasn't dine in. It's like every question she asked me i gave her the answer and then she typed in the complete opposite. I have not ventured to far out beyond those staples in the morning options. But, We visited the wine bar area in the back one evening and got fresh pizzas....super impressed. I don't usually like pizza but the hubs and I finished both pizzas without even thinking twice about it. I think one was with figs and the other with prosciutto. Both were delicious. They were out of or just had run out of most the beers that we wanted but the bartender was great company and did his best to accommodate so that definitely made up for it. Sweetsalt is a fun restaurant located on Riverside Drive in Toluca Lake. This is really an interesting restaurant for the area. What they offer is a very nice selection of dishes that are great for any pallet. One of their main focuses is pizza, but they really have so much more. How this restaurant works is that you go up to the counter and order. Then, you go and sit down and they will bring your meal to your table. If there's a downside to this restaurant it's that it is very popular, so sometimes the wait can be a little long for ordering. What I have noticed is that this is mostly due to the fact that many people go up to counter to order and they really don't know what they want. So, they're standing there holding up the line while asking a bunch of questions. Unfortunately, this is just the reality of this restaurant. Just keep that in mind. But, once you have placed your order, the food here is very good. So, even if you have to wait to order a little bit, it's worth it. Sweetsalt also offers a nice selection of drinks. They have their baristas creating lattes and the like right at the counter, so you know you're gonna get a very fresh and tasty drink. In terms of seating, they have a good number of tables inside. They also have a nice section of outdoor seating. That's always where I prefer to enjoy my meal. This restaurant has been here for a long time and there's a reason for this. It's very good. The staff here is always nice. And it's a fun place to eat. read more

The food came fast, presentable, and yep, tasty. I got the egg hash with short rib. The stewed beef was tender and really good. I got a bite of the chicken pesto sandwich and that was a winner too. The restaurant itself kind of looks like a big food hall with high ceilings. The service was very quick, especially given how busy they are.
