    "Carnivore" Wood fired Pizza
    John E.

My family and I decided to stop by Sweetsalt in a Sunday evening. Unbeknownst to us, after a certain time (dinner?) it turns into a sit down restaurant with table service rather than the order at the counter and take your number and sit version we had experienced previously. The mood is somewhere between romantic and chic in the evening. We ordered an assortment of items including hamburgers but this the woodfired pizza stood out. I would be back just for that, maybe joined with a appetizer or two and a glass of wine. Cheers.

I didn't see a lot of dinner reviews so I thought I'd try it. We made a reservation on Resy but it wasn't necessary there was plenty of seating available. It's cute and has a nice wine bar, open seating area with hard floors means it can get loud when full. The service was pretty good, they have happy hour daily for wine and beer and select food. What we ordered: appetizer was garlic shrimp which was a bit disappointing with six small shrimp in some sauce. Good flavor but it was just ok. Next came our entrees which were truffle cavetteli pasta and the wild lemon glaze halibut. Both of these options were excellent! The halibut had great flavor and a good portion. We also had dessert of warm butter cake and an affogado coffee. One thing to point out is they have table service during dinner. It is definitely worth venturing out to if you're in the neighborhood, a chill vibe with fresh food.

In my ongoing quest to canvass all of Toluca Lake for food reviews, I tried Sweetsalt again for lunch yesterday. This is my third time there, I went once for breakfast and once for a lunch meeting. Service is fine. 4/5. You order up front and they bring the food to you. I have found both times I've went that the cashiers were busy doing something so even though there was no line I had to wait about 5 min for service. Not the biggest deal. Food usually comes prompt. Atmosphere 3/5. This place looks really pretty on the inside. Has some outdoor seating on riverside. It's sorta elevated fast casual. Feels like a kit store made from left over parts from old mimis restaurants. My only real issue is its high ceilings. It gets very loud fast. This seems to be a trend with places these days, but I prefer to hear the person I am dining with. Food 3/5. It's just... ok. I had a breakfast once and it was fine. Had a salad once and it was fine. Yesterday I ordered their Brussel and kale tacos with double chicken (which totaled like almost 30 bucks!). My partner had a caprese with chicken and it was super dry! Portion sizes are good. Coffee is also just ok. Lots of better options nearby. So the food is... fine. But so so expensive. Again it's like, am I getting my money's worth? I can go to TJs down the street, get about 20 meals that taste better, go home and heat them up. Not sure if it's me or restaurants in general in these times but I'm just not finding the quality to be worth the cost. Go here for a quick breakfast or brunch or maybe a meeting. Maybe just stay home or make a nice picnic lunch or something if you're looking for dining with intent.

I've been meaning to stop by for months. This was a unique yet lovely experience. Stand on line to place/pay for my order. Grabbed my number, took a few steps where I cured my coffee, needed additional napkins and my hot sauce. Next thing I know, this lovely plate was presented. Thanks to Hannah who was very helpful to me, while I decided my breakfast. I so enjoyed my meal. There is parking in the back, as well as street parking. Sweetsalt offers breakfast, lunch and dinner. It was enjoyable.

First time trying. We were a bit confused as the host desk had a sign saying to seat yourself. We finally figured out it was a stand in line at the counter to order place. We placed our order. My wife had the Steak and Blue on baguette. I got the Shortrib sandwich with fries. We both really enjoyed the sandwiches. The surprise was how good their Japanese Lager was. I really enjoyed it. The service was great and the relaxed atmosphere made it a great place to just hang out. We are definitely coming again.

The food taste great but sometimes can come out a bit cold. They are kinda slow when serving food but they have many orders to prepare! Very polite people & and clean space :)

    Breakfast Burrito

Really friendly cashier, didn't get her name. This was my first time and was disappointed. Pretty expensive for how bland the breakfast burrito was. I wish it said it comes with that green salsa (the cilantro is overpowering and couldn't enjoy it) the side salad, i think they could give something else or nothing at all, it doesn't go well with a burrito imo. I replaced the bacon for avocado and only ate half of the burrito, the egg was pretty greasy, not tasty at all.

The place looks nice. Free parking behind the building. Luckily because we had major problems finding parking on the street on a Saturday afternoon. Staff seem friendly. We decided to sit outside in front by the street. It wasn't too noisy. My spouse ordered a lentil/vegetable soup. He let me try it. I had to agree with him. Very watery in my opinion but also extremely tasteless. Absolutely nothing to write home about. I ordered a grilled cheese sandwich and an orange juice. It wasn't bad. But it came with some greens. I assumed it was a side salad. But either they forgot the dressing or they don't like to share much of it. I tasted just plane green lettuce. Nothing else. After we got the food. No one ever came out to check on the us. So I never had a chance to ask for anything anyway. Well, it was worth a try. I won't say this place is horrible but not for us.

Fig & Prosciutto sandwich, Honey Lavender Matcha

Very fast service, has some free parking in the back, lots of seating in a stylish dining area, and a fairly large menu of sandwiches and salads. You order at a cashier and then they bring the food to you in less than 5 minutes. The fig and prosciutto sandwich was pretty good and I enjoyed the honey lavender matcha latte which had a fairly prominent lavender flavor. Sandwich could've been bigger or a bit more filling given that between the drink, sandwich, tip, and tax, my meal cost over $33. Overall, I did enjoy this spot but you're definitely paying for the atmosphere.

Sweetsalt is a cute little cafe in Toluca Lake. Seemed like there were some people doing work on their laptops, friends catching up with each other, and overall a chill, laid-back spot. The food was alright, wasn't blown away by any of the dishes. The side salad was whatever, felt like the mixed greens out of a bag. Service was pretty good and friendly. Highlight was probably the breakfast sandwich.

Famous for their breakfast/brunch/lunch on Riverside in Toluca Lake, I believe Sweetsalt just opened for dinner service over the past several months. Business must be good, as they've also expanded to a bigger, brand new location just a couple blocks down from where they used to be. Despite living within walking distance, my dinner here just a couple weeks ago was actually my first time stopping in. I'm glad I finally decided to visit, because the food is great! To eat, I ordered the Margherita "Wood Oven" Pizza. Priced at $20, it's not the cheapest in town, but the quality is certainly elevated. The size is also fairly substantial. The decor/ambience is warm and inviting, and while service was on the slower side, everyone was helpful and friendly. If looking for a nice spot to grab some food at around Toluca Lake, Sweetsalt is a solid option. I will likely be back soon to try more of their menu items.

Thankfully we finally caved in because we've been sleeping on this place for years! It's located off of Lankershim Blvd & Academy Way, basically next to the Laemmle Noho 7 and the Saban Media Center. Bruxie was kind of hard to gauge on how to order - there's a walk-up window for ordering and pick-up orders, but employees can also walk right up to you and place your order for you. You can also order online ahead, so yeah slightly confusing but as long as you put your order in you're golden. They have four big tables outside along with counter seating on the sidewalk. If it gets too hot or cold, they also have seating inside an old train car that is purely counters only. We sat inside the train car, but the only caveat is that people are constantly going in/out and they sometimes leave the door open. They also have a water station inside the train car if you want to cool off. My wife and I both ordered the Kickin' "Nashville" Hot Chicken Sandwich and we shared the Loaded Waffle-Cut Fries. The food came out in a reasonable amount of time - if you're dining there, the employees bring out your food wherever you are and provide plastic utensils along with sauces. The hot chicken sandos live up to their namesake, packing quite a kick! The loaded waffle fries hit the spot. If you're in NoHo looking for some good chicken & waffles, Bruxie will satisfy! We can't wait to come back and try more of their menu! They're open late too if you have some late night cravings (they close at midnight Thurs, Fri & Sat). There's street parking or you can park at the garage of the Saban Media Center.

The Line Told Me Everything I Needed to Know…read more Stumbled upon this spot after nearby Japanese BBQ, and what immediately caught my attention was the line -- probably around 20 people deep. Naturally, I asked a random customer what all the hype was about, and they told me this place was famous for their croissant pastries. Well... next thing you know, I'm standing in line too after a very full lunch. I ended up trying the Chocolate Almond Croissant for $6.50, and let me tell you something -- I am a HUGE croissant girlie. While I'm not normally the biggest chocolate person, Spain and Portugal recently changed my perspective on dark chocolate, and apparently now I'm in my dark chocolate era. And honestly? This croissant was BETTER than the super popular pastry we had in Barcelona, Spain. The chocolate wasn't overpowering at all -- it had the perfect amount of dark sweetness without being too rich. But the real surprise was the almond filling layered at the bottom. Oh my gosh... chef's kiss. Nutty, creamy, not overly sweet, and perfectly balanced. Chocolate Almond Croissant -- 9.2/10 I can only imagine how life-changing this would taste fresh out of the oven piping hot. Service was fast despite the line moving constantly, but just know there's no indoor seating. It's very much an order, pick up, and go type of spot. Ambiance was welcoming and super friendly gals. Definitely a must-try, and I'll absolutely remember to stop by again anytime I'm in Burbank. Happy eats!!

We've been doing that for a few years now, so that should tell you something right there. Our order is fairly consistent: we each start with a mimosa that comes in a highball glass, so one is usually all we need. Next, we share an order of kimchi biscuits (you get two). So delicious! Packed full of kimchi, bacon and cheddar cheese, it's a nice combo of flavors that play well together. The interior is usually soft and warm, with a nice crunchy crust. Top that with a smatter of the cinnamon butter that it comes with...yum! Our choice of entree varies, anything from avocado toast, to their kale and seaweed salad or any of their other selections they have from their brunch/lunch menu. On this outing, my friend and I both opted for the bibimbap. I opted for the pork bulgogi while my friend got the chicken version. It comes with a generous amount of carrots, zucchini, shiitake mushrooms and bean sprouts, and is topped with a runny, sunny side up egg that serves as an excellent sauce when you mix everything together, along with the gochujang sauce. We upgraded and got it with brown rice in the hot stone bowl. Worth it! The regular bibimbap is good, but when you mix in the crunchy crust that comes from the bottom of the stone bowl, you get an additional texture that makes the dish really stand out. The flavors already come together nicely, and the crunchy bits just enhance the experience. For dessert, we like to share the "lemon pie", which is actually a scoop of lemon gelato that comes in a glass that also includes graham crackers, topped with toasted marshmallows. A nice way to end the meal. And the staff! We usually either have Justin or Ann as our server, but everyone there is super friendly and helpful. They are consistently good at checking up on you and making sure you have everything you need. Just another 5 star reason of why we keep coming back!
