Came here for the first time for lunch today. We were seated immediately. The waitress was very friendly, and everything we ordered came out correctly. Our drinks came very fast and we're delicious and a good size for the price. We got the Iced Mango Green Tea and the Pomegranate Aloe Vera Drink. The food arrived quickly as well. The garlic fries were yummy and not too garlicky. The gyoza was super tasty. The drumsticks had a little bit too much sauce, and we would have preferred if it was on the side, but the "chicken" was delicious. Something Vegan is definitely something special. The menu is very diverse so pretty much no matter what food mood you're in, they've got you covered. On my most recent visit I got two of my favorite things - "steak" tacos (you can pick the protein) and a crispy "chicken" sandwich (comes with fries). Because why not get two meals at once? The tacos are hard shell and come with some green salsa on the side - super yummy. And I pretty much inhaled the sandwich, I couldn't put it down. Sometimes vegan chicken can taste so bad but Something Vegan always hits. The restaurant is in such a cute area of Toluca Lake and it's usually not too hard to find street parking. Prices are not bad at all, especially for such delicious Vegan food. Service is always fast, even when it's busy. The decor and vibe make me feel so happy too. Plus, the staff is wonderful. Something Vegan is the spot to visit when you're super hungry but have no idea what you're craving. Per the name, they'll probably have SOMETHING that satisfies you! From chicken&pancakes, loaded nachos and a dynamic selection of Asian dishes (rice and noodles galore), this is the place to bring a group of friends who can't decide on what cuisine they want. In my case, I usually come here when I'm feeling picky. Which is most of the time... I visit quite frequently and I can say that it's a genuine struggle to get me to order something that isn't their tangy orange chicken. They just do it so well! The orange sauce is perfectly flavored but not overpoweringly sweet, and the crispy soy chicken they use is one of my favorite veg protein's I've ever tried. Now, I can't talk about this entree without mentioning my disdain for the fact that they charge extra for a side of rice ($2.00) when it feels like this should be included in the cost of the entree itself, but I'm not taking any stars off for this because this hangup has never prevented me from dining in at this spot. The food is just THAT good that I'm happy to accept this surcharge. But it is something worth noting. Dining here is super cozy, with a semi-small dining room but plenty of patio seating out front, and an ambiance that makes it a fun date night spot with plenty of people watching on Riverside Dr. And, parking is super easy on the sidestreet of N Clybourn Ave, making Something Vegan a delicious, stress free spot. 1. The Heavenly Beef (2/5) had a jerky-like texture; after a while, it became impossible to continue eating because of how dry and tough it was. It was also a little too sweet for me and overseasoned. However, I did enjoy the veggies served with the beef. Like other reviewers, I think a sauce might have helped the texture and flavor. 2. Needed a place to eat and hang out before flying out of Burbank airport and this place was incredible! We got the chicken and pancakes, fries with bacon and cheese, tangy orange chicken, crispy chicken sandwich, and cheesecake. Usually on most days I would be excited to give this place a 5 star rating, service is very quick and the ambiance is really chill, lowkey compared to the area but the last couple of times, it seems like they change their recipes. If you get the pad see ew, make sure to make it spicy! I got it with extra veggies and it turned out a big soggy and lacking of flavor on this visit. For almost $20 I was really missing the spice and they charge extra for most of their sauces, the sriracha just wasn't enough to make up the difference. My sister has been coming to Something Vegan for a couple of years now and after much hype, we came in for a weekday lunch! ~ Location, Ambiance and Service ~ They are located right on Riverside, so parking is easier on the surrounding side streets. We took a table by the window inside and were immediately greeted by our server who brought menus and asked if we wanted anything to drink other than water. I've passed Something Vegan many times as Patys across the street is a solid spot I've hit a handful of times. I was in the area and feeling like keeping it light , not to mention a hankering for some Pad Thai which was on the menu. Speaking of the menu , very diverse, and you can get yourself an assortment of vegan Thai dishes to portobello burgers, tacos you name it. Great outdoor and indoor seating, but parking may be a bit tough. You order at the counter, then they seat you , I elected outside, placed my order and shortly there after out comes your food. I went with 2 standards I try at any Thai spot, beit vegan or not. Tom Khar aka coconut soup , and Pad Thai. The Tom Kha was exquisite and of the best I've had, and I don't say that lightly. A generous bowl filled with mushrooms , a few sweet peppers , organic tofu , lemon grass , and lime I would come back just for this soup. The Pad Thai - bit on the sweet side and I ordered it level 5 spicy ( 1-5 ) organic tofu once again but soy chicken, soy beef , Mock shrimp also available. Tofu was fried to perfection with a nice chew , ample perfectly cooked noodles, bean sprouts, peanuts , carrots etc I'd say a dash of soy or salt would have really brought it together nicely but still a tasty dish. We ordered delivery and got a variety of dishes, orange chicken, chicken satay, beef curry with coconut rice and pad see ew. Everything was delicious, even to the meat eaters in the group. We appreciate everyone working. I wasn't feeling too hungry, so I just got Miso soup and dumplings as an appetizer, and my boyfriend ordered the Chicken & Pancake! Came here for lunch and started off with the portobello fries. Omg the breading on those portobello mushrooms is to die for. It is so good and looks just like the fried chicken in kdramas they always have product placement for. So now I won't feel like I'm missing out anymore. Next we got the heavenly beef and jade fried rice as mains. The server had suggested ordering plain rice with the heavenly beef but we found that the (veggie) beef was not actually that salty and was good on its own. The jade fried rice was really flavorful on its own (nice and basil-y) and was great with the soy chicken. I wish there was more soy chicken though. We also got the Vietnamese coffee (too sweet and bitter) and the Thai ice tea (also a little too sweet). Great outdoor seating (though seating in the shade is a bit limited). My wife and I have been coming to Something Vegan for many many years.. it's been a staple of ours for so long. Even before they had AC! :) Everything we have ever ordered here has been absolutely delicious! We bring our out-of-town friends and family here as well, even the non-vegan ones and they are surprised at how delicious it is! I was surprised that I had never written a review before.... but I had an experience on the phone this afternoon that really took me by surprise.. and it was not a pleasant one - AT. ALL. Hence, my review. My wife and I order salads to go often, we vacillate between a few of them but our go-to are the Kale Caesar with fried tofu added and the Magnum Salad. I always order the Magnum without Kale and replace it with Romaine lettuce- also with added fried tofu. And have for many years. Today.. I called in to place that very order.. and I was told 'sorry we dont do substitutions.." Oh .. well I always substitute Romain for the kale as my system doesnt do well with kale and it's never ever been an issue. "Well, we dont do that" the woman told me. I said," I'm not trying to be argumentative but yes you do lol I've ordered it countless times.. look up my phone number and orders! "No, we dont" she said. I said.. but you make your salads fresh.. so instead of kale just use romaine. "No, no substitutions!" she replied. So, I asked to speak to someone else. I heard the woman explaining the conversation to the other woman and after a few moments she got on the phone and said no we don't substitute. I repeated that I was a very long time customer and that I NEVER EVER had an issue with this and I cant do kale. Nope. We don't do that. THEN,. she said we charge extra for romaine but will not remove the kale. I was flabbergasted. "You won't remove the kale.. so basically your going to make the salad put the kale in, even though I said I cant do kale, and then charge me extra for romaine but will not remove the kale!?? That makes absolutely NO SENSE!" No response. At that point I said is this how you treat long-time customers? Ive been coming since you've been open and she cut me off and said I've worked here since it's been open and we don't substitute. I said well you will not get my business any longer. She replied with arrogance and a condescending tone.. "OK, Have a nice day!" In this day and age when restaurants are closing left and right, this total disrespect and rudeness to a long time customer is truly baffling and unacceptable ! Been wanting to come here for awhile, as this place is quite far. We finally paid the establishment a visit and was not disappointed. Seeing from the photos we really wanted to try the portobello mushrooms. So we did. We ordered the mushrooms as well as the bacon fries. It was better than I expected. The flavor was there and it was supper tasty. Not too much not too little, just right. Came here late in the night and the owner was very welcoming, had great service, accommodated our needs and even brought us water while we waited for our togo order. Friendly service, engaged in a short but sweet conversation. I am big on service and I had no complaints. Best of all the food always amazing! The place even had fresh carnations for decor.
