Something Great Hawaii has quickly become one of my favorite finds in Kihei. Tucked into the Kihei Triangle, this charming little shop serves health-conscious gluten free, plant based Japanese treats and eats that feel both nostalgic and unique. I'm honestly surprised I didn't find them sooner! I originally stopped by for their sweet crepes, and they absolutely lived up to expectations. I ordered the mango crepe, and from the moment I took my first bite, I was instantly transported back to Japan. It was even better than I had hoped. The homemade whipped cream has a subtle coconut flavor that is light, delicate, and incredibly delicious. Paired with their crepe batter--which is made from a blend of flours, including ʻulu flour--it creates a flavor and texture that feels completely unique and I am obsessed. I also tried the coconut kuzu mochi, a chilled Japanese-style mochi dessert that reminded me of an elevated version of haupia pudding. It was refreshing, silky, and perfect for a warm Maui day. Their iced matcha latte was another pleasant surprise. I'm not usually someone who enjoys matcha on its own, but their version is made with oat milk and maple syrup, and the maple complements the earthy matcha beautifully. Somehow, it all just works. Beyond the food, the couple running the shop are sweet and welcoming. Since my first visit, I've returned a couple more times. On one visit, they had already sold out of crepes for the day. While I didn't get to satisfy my craving, I couldn't help but feel happy for them. From what they told me, they spent years working toward opening this space and were finally able to do so late last year. It's easy to see why people are discovering and supporting them. Maui has plenty of great food, but Something Great Hawaii offers something a little different--a taste of Japan with thoughtful local touches. I would love to see them continue to thrive. Something Great Hawaii was an interesting find! We were looking for an afternoon snack and landed upon this cute little shop in Kihei. They had a wide variety of menu items, from light bites to sweet or savory crepes. We decided to try the: - Miso Eggplant Crepe - Beautiful presentation, and the eggplant was very flavorful! - Purple Sweet Potato & Macadamia Nut Crepe - This unfortunately was a miss for us both; I'm not sure if it's the coconut whip or the sweet potato, but something tasted very medicinal and sadly didn't go well with the sweetness of the crepe The staff working at the shop though were super sweet and you can tell that they have a great heart for each item that they prepare. read more

Easily the best matcha I've ever had, and I'm not a matcha connoisseur or anything, I was just mesmerized at their process and how I finished my drink so fast (and I'm usually a drink babysitter ESPECIALLY with matcha) My friends wanted coffee and I don't usually like coffee but we saw there was a little matcha bar so we hopped on over to find the cutest shop with mom and pop vibes. My friend tried their kombucha on tap (AMAZING flavors btw), and we also got their matcha lattes which default were made with maple syrup and oat milk. The man making our drinks moved with such intention and precision from the way he scooped, whisked, and even put the lid on our cups, I was so in awe. This is a hidden gem, especially if you're looking for vegan food in Kihei! It's also gluten-free. Everyone needs to try this place, they put such love into their food and you feel so good after eating. Everything on the menu is delicious so you can't go wrong. Don't skip the Cone Salad, it's unlike anything you've ever tried. It's mainly savory but the Japanese sweet potatoes and the cone make it slightly sweet so it's the perfect combo. There is no seating inside, but don't let that stop you from eating here. Their food is so ono that some people might be surprised by how healthful it also happens to be. Don't think of it as "health food". It was our very first time visiting. We discovered it on a Monday when we were in Kihei. Needing gluten-free options. This felt like a wonderful discovery as the entire restaurant is GF.! We made a special trip to return for lunch. The trip was well worth it! The crêpes are lovely and thin. Our favorite was the roasted Maitake mushroom crêpe. We also enjoyed the eggplant and Tempe crêpe and cheese crêpe. All of them were good, but the Maitake mushroom was spectacular! Not quite done enjoying their wonderful Options, we shared a strawberry and chocolate dessert crêpe. The strawberries were wonderfully sweet and island grown in Kula. Chunks of chocolate and real whipped cream (vegan whipped cream was also an option.) made it a delightful end to a great meal. The owners are so kind and pleasant. While we waited for our dessert crêpe, we were also given samples of their homemade kombucha, one from root beer and the other from Chaga mushrooms. Went here for first time a few days ago and it was awesome. Had a Matcha Latte and ordered 3 savory crepes (Teriyaki, mushroom, miso eggplant) plus a desert one (mango). They were wonderful, delicious and artful in the presentation; a different spin on a crepe than what I have had. More than the awesome cuisine, the owners or the persons preparing and serving were so nice and brought our to go order out to us while we waited a very short time. Will be going back here for sure. So so good!! Highly recommend! We have eaten from their stand at the farmers market many times prior and just love it so much! Every single thing we have tried has been just so good!
