They have indoor and outdoor tables with heated lamps, and they also do parking validation. MUSSELS ROCKEFELLER ($18) - the broth was so good that we asked for a spoon to finish it. I also liked the additions of the lardon and the pickled shallots. 5/5 BRAISED WAGYU PAPPARDELLE ($36) - they make their pasta fresh daily and you can really tell. The noodles were great and the meat sauce was good. 4/5 MALBEC BRAISED WAGYU SHORT RIB ($40) - I thought the short rib was a little dry and could've used more seasoning. The portion size could've been bigger as well. 3/5 For drinks I got the whiskey cocktail 5 ($20) which was really good and smooth. It came out smokey and was really nice to drink. My second drink was the spring barrel aged cocktail ($23) which was okay and a little bitter. Our service was phenomenal from the moment we walked in. A Hidden Gem in Irvine Solstice Kitchen & Bar is an incredible farm-to-table spot that feels like a hidden gem, but once you find it, you'll keep coming back. I always go for their Solstice Salad with double salmon--fresh, flavorful, and perfectly balanced. Their cocktails are next level, especially the Paper Plane and Last Word (a must-try if you're into Green Chartreuse). Desserts here are fantastic. The Tres Leches is warm and comforting, while the seasonal butter cake (apple when I visited) with gelato is rich but lighter than similar versions, making it easy to enjoy regularly. The hummus is fresh and delicious, and my kids love the burger and fries (adult-sized portions) and the fresh butter pasta, which is made in-house daily. Beyond the food, the ambiance is inviting, service is consistently great, and I love that you can see the open kitchen in action. Surprisingly, they're quite busy even on weekdays. Parking is validated, and while access may not feel obvious at first, it's actually quite easy. They also have a decent rewards program, which is a nice perk for frequent visits. Stumbled upon this gem for lunch on a random Monday - and was very pleased with our choice! They were just opening, but everyone was so friendly and welcoming. Validated our parking in the on-site structure as well. Located on the ground floor of an office building, in a pretty big sort of office complex - there's actually a cute little courtyard we walked through a bit first. Somewhat accidentally but very nice to enjoy the property. Other small eateries/cafes on site, outdoor meeting spaces, even some bbq areas. Cool spot to work. I ordered the grilled chicken Cobb, it was good - chicken was on the saltier end but lots of great flavors/textures otherwise. To start, we arrived promptly for our 5:00pm reservation, the restaurant was basically empty with only a handful of people sitting at the bar. We were seated at a high top in the bar area as requested and there we sat waiting for someone to come to our table. Eventually our waiter arrived and took our drink order. One of our cocktails never did arrive until I got up, found our waiter and asked him if it would be coming out, he had forgotten all about it. When our meals finally arrived the pink haired server had no idea that it is appropriate to serve the ladies first. The pink haired server returned later to fill our water glasses with tap water and then noticed we had purchased bottled still water. No offer to bring new glasses she just turned and walked away. Ambiance was clean but again the setting is in a business complex so nothing particularly warm or inviting. This place has a great vibe and the service is terrific. Solid 4.5 stars but can't do that on Yelp. The only issue was my wife's risotto was too sweet for her. They use a port wine reduction which makes it sweet. We didn't know but I think you can ask to hold back on some of the reduction. The bread was amazing. Had my birthday dinner here and I gotta say it was the best place to celebrate my birthday. So glad my best friends chose to have my celebration here. The food was sooo delicious and amazing. I was surprised at how well the layout was in order to seat the above types of gatherings. They're great for the 2-3 people seating as well but just giving awareness that they have great pockets of seating for a few larger parties as well I.e. around 10-15 people We would have been here at a sooner date for brunch but they do not offer brunch on Saturdays. It's only on Sundays. I wish they were open for brunch on Saturdays because the restaurant is really cute and a great ambiance for brunch and think they'd do well if so. Aesthetic is simple, semi-neutral and earthy tones with pops of color and a few unique items that catch your eye. Pretty and warm with a touch of sophistication The food was really good. I ordered something very simple this time just because I was not in the mood for anything heavy. I do wish they had a little more variety on breakfast menu items but they did have a couple of unique items breakfast wise. With them only being open for brunch on Sundays, I wouldn't expect them to have a huge menu list so that's fine. With what I ordered, the eggs were perfectly cooked (some restaurants overcook the eggs) and the potatoes were really well seasoned and the right amount of salt. I only could finish a portion of the biscuit but what made the biscuit was its softness and salt on the outside of it. We went here to celebrate NYE this year as it was one of the places that did not have a prefix menu. They did have a special menu for NYE that you could order. Plenty of parking in the structure that the restaurant will validate. The restaurant is in a business plaza but easy to find. Inside is very open with a bar separating two different dining areas. Service throughout the night was excellent even though it was pretty busy. The menu changes one a season and we just got there when they had a new menu. Some popular items carry over though depending on how it does. Drinks were excellent. They had bottle water already on the table, but if requested they will switch to tap water. For appetizer, we started with the Parker House Rolls and wow they were delicious. They were nice and fluffy and pulled apart easily. The butter that came with it also tasted wonderful. This one carries over most menus. For entrees, I got the filet with chimichurri sauce and mash potatoes. The steak was cooked perfectly (rare) and the chinichurri sauce was nice. Mash potatoes was nice and creamy. My wife got the short ribs which came in a nice presentation with a cover removed when served to release the smoke. Flavors on the dish was also good. For dessert we had the apple butter cake and honestly that is the one item we thought was ok. Taste fine but not the best butter cake we've had. But easy validated parking and free valet! The lunch vibe was the "fun" office crowd. My old fashioned was the perfect elevated lunch cocktail with garrison brothers whiskey that's blended and further aged in house. My mushroom soup was almost the perfect amount of fungi- I wish there were some more crunchy mushroom "bacon" bits. The avocado melt was good, and fries were well made. Malbec braised short rib was probably my favorite and melts in your mouth with the most perfect sauce. The Braised short rib pappardelle are the perfect texture thick noodles with a decent portion of meat. I usually avoid mocktails as they're too sweet but these were amazing. Homemade syrups for both the unkiwi and unfrench75 which was ginger pear. For starters, Wahoo crudo and the roasted beet salad are musts! So fancy and delicious Whipped ricotta comes with grilled sourdough which is crispy and yummy but heads up it has a very strong honey flavor in case you don't like honey. I was looking for a nicer place to celebrate a birthday dinner around South OC and found this place last second on my IG. It was extremely easy to make reservations. When we arrived, we were seated almost immediately. It is a seasonal menu, but here is what we ordered: Parker House Rolls: This came out piping hot! The roll was very soft and pulled apart easily. It was topped with a bit of salt and severed with a fruity jam. It was definitely sweeter than expected, but nevertheless, very tasty. 8oz Filet: This has got to be one of my all time favorite filets. It was perfectly cooked medium rare as requested and it came perfectly seasoned. It was very flavorful and beautifully presented with mashed potato dollops. I was very pleased that it was flavorful enough that it did not need any gravy or anything to top it off. Malbec-Braised Wagyu Short Rib: This came out under a glass that the waitress swirled upward to give that smokey aorma. The braised short rib was so soft, we did nt even need a knife t break it apart. The mashed potato bed was deliciously coated with sauce. Lavender Lemon Drop: Super delicious and aesthetically pleasing. This came with a sprig of lavender and a sugar rim. It was perfectly sweet, just the way I like! I for sure could have ordered another one of these! Whiskey Cocktail 2: This was very tasty and had edible gold glitter in it. It tasted like a sweeter version of an Old Fashioned. I really enjoyed my experience here at Solstice. The ambiance was quite and fancy. The servers were attentive and checked up on us several times throughout the meal. The seasonal menu had so many great choices and it was hard to pick one. The drinks were well balanced, which our server made sure to mention to every table. I personally love the Whiskey Cocktail 2. The edible glitter also makes it pretty. The food was fun and tasty. I've gotten the Parker rolls before and they were served with butter which I loved. This time they were served with a strawberry-elderflower jam which was a little too sweet for my taste. I would enjoy that flavor for breakfast. Still, the rolls were perfect. Other tables around us revived a complimentary amuse bouche but ours never arrived. Maybe our server was too busy. My steak was overcooked. I had ordered the steak medium rare and I received a medium steak. Thankfully the flavor made up for it. The potato purée served with it was soft and buttery, there was nothing left on the plate when I was done. I don't know if I would recommend Solstice for kids. This place is perfect for date nights or dinner with a friend. The vibe is clean and fun. We handed our server our parking ticket to validate it. I came here the day of my birthday. The waiter, Taylor, asked if we were celebrating anything and we let him know. He asked for ID because I ordered a drink. My ID has my birthday on it and he does not even say happy birthday or anything nice. On top of that, we were charged $20 for water! My friend is diabetic and we were never informed it was anything more than tap. Side note, this was my second time here. I took my friend here last year, also celebrating a birthday, and it was not this experience (we even got a complimentary dessert and card from the staff). TLDR: You come here to impress people or to celebrate something special. The food is very good, but not amazing, and the service is immaculate. The food is on the pricey side, but you get elements and moments that will make you feel that it's worth it. Sweet potato puree: Nothing spectacular for an amuse bouche. The coffee crumble elevates the basic sweet potato flavor into a more defined taste compared to what you'll get by just eating the vegetable. Cheese & Charcuterie board: It's quite overrated in my opinion. The cold cuts are fine, the bread is decent, and the cheeses are diverse yet emit this basic feel. The price tag also doesn't help and I feel that there are better things to get than this. Tuna Tartare: It's very good. I've never tasted anything that felt so different yet so familiar. The tuna felt fresh and the layers in between as well as underneath help paint a picture that feels colorful. I enjoyed eating this with the chips as the flavors complimented each other quite well. 32 oz Tomahawk Ribeye: Half the listed weight is probably the bone. I was fully prepared to share this with someone who is also a heavy beef eater, but we were both disappointed when the board came. You probably get 8 or so slices of meat which to my estimate is about 16oz. The chimichurri helped make the taste different but I still preferred the steak by itself. Pomme purée was good, Cipollini was fine, Carrots were fine. I could make an argument that the sides just barely salvaged the meal, since there was a risk that we'd finish the main course still feeling fairly hungry. Generally, disappointed with this one. Coffee Spiced Ricotta Doughnuts: The doughnuts by themselves tasted quite unremarkable. Things do take a step up when the chai caramel and chocolate ganache are added on. Apple Butter Cake: If the Tomahawk nearly ruined the meal then this definitely saved it. This is either the best bite or the 2nd best bite of the evening. The cake feels light on its own, and takes many steps up when eaten with the vanilla gelato and apple skins. I'm not a huge salted caramel fan, but this one really makes a case on why it's a good combination. It's a steal for the price point and if I come back, it will be because of this. Service: It's amazing. You're almost pampered here. The staff keep a close eye on you, making sure you have everything that you need to make the experience worthwhile. They'd gladly explain to you a menu that will have complex flavors that a lot of people will not understand. No complaints here. I love this place. I found it on Yelp about a year ago while looking for a place to eat before the theater with a vibe similar to Seasons 52. Food: The menu is seasonal (they change it "every solstice"), and the food items are selected and changed according to what's in season. What really sold me on this place was the ravioli they had last year. Hands down, best ravioli I've ever had. Sadly, they didn't bring it back this season, but still have great food options. I love the crudo (both salmon and wahoo - again, it's seasonal), and I recently tried the whipped ricotta, which was very good! For an entree, I've been getting the seasonal risotto with scallops lately, and it's divine (last season it was mushroom, this season it's artichoke)! They also have a mocha martini, which is my favorite. Last season, they had a pumpkin spice martini, and that one was to die for. The menu is a little pricier, but I don't mind because it's really good. The only thing in food I think they could improve is their dessert options. I've tried a few but wasn't in love, which is fine because I get full from all the food that I usually end up skipping it anyway. They also have a good happy hour and even offer it on Saturdays, which is amazing, and the options are decent! Ambience: The restaurant is hidden underneath a business complex in Newport/Irvine, so it's unsuspecting, but the ambience is nice, and the place is light and open. He handed me a card signed from the staff wishing us a happy anniversary which was such a thoughtful, extra-mile touch. What we ordered: (Appetizer) ricotta and 'nduja dip - brandon saw that we dropped a piece of bread and came back with an entire plate of bread in its stead. So astute of him and beyond our expectations. This totally caught us by surprise especially because there was way more dip than bread given. - it was a flavor that was new to both of us; sweet, creamy, slight heat. Delicious with the pickled onions and olives. (Main) whole branzino - husband loved it and the mexican flair it had with the spices and mole. - im not a huge fan of fish but the crispy skin was such a plus! I had multiple bites :) (Main) mushroom risotto - i expected "cream of mushroom" flavor and savory-ness, but it had a sweetness that was indulgent and still earthy from the mushrooms. Pleasant surprise. - such a big portion!! (Side) brussel sprouts - dollops of ricotta paired so well with the crispy bits of brussel - loved the sweetness from the apple/pear on top. (Dessert) apple butter cake with cinnamon ice cream - took me back to elementary school in virginia when a classmate would share her homemade applebutter and apple jam sandwich with me. Wow. - cake was crisp on the outside and soft on the inside - neither cake nor ice cream was too sweet or overpowering - the apple compote was deliciously seasoned, and held more flavor profile than just cinnamon. - apple peel crisps as a garnish was such a fun way of using up the entire fruit. Props on this. Complimentary dessert this blew my mind???? It was granny smith apple slices with a cacao nib crumb, piped chocolate pudding, and a little dab of some wine reduction preserve or something. It all went so well together and the textures and tartness and bitterness was entirely complimentary to one another. I would pay to eat that. It left such an impression and i know i wont stop thinking about its simplicity and complexity. My favorite of the night! Brandon always stopped by to check on us and also silently filled our waters in stealth lol. He constantly wished us a happy anniversary, showing he was mindful of his customers. It was one of the best meals we've had in a while and theres no doubt it was because of both the food and experience! Deviled eggs are unique and great but more like a deconstructed egg salad. Parker house rolls are so fluffy with a touch of sweet from the apple butter. Beet salad is refreshing and beets are perfectly cooked. Pear salad is also great with the ricotta but some of the pears were a bit harder and a tad too sour. I liked the beet salad more. Mushroom risotto is really delicious too but very rich. Better for splitting. The ricotta gnocchi mac and cheese was also rich and creamy but a tad too salty. Coffee spiced doughnuts are to die for. Crispy on the outside fluffy on the inside soo good with the sauces. Pumpkin bread pudding was a bit too sweet and dense for two so probably better to split with more folks. Wish they had more vegetarian options on the menu but do ask your server, I think there's a bit that can be subbed/swapped. Overall our favorite (relatively) new spot! Service is always super friendly. Drinks are great. First time we came here, we sat outside. Heat lamps kept us warm and cozy and the holiday lights in the boardwalk were a nice view. Second time, we sat inside which was also very nice decor. They validate parking so don't forget to give them your ticket! read more
