Was so looking forward to trying out this spot, after pursuing it for so long. Unfortunately, I have to say that I was underwhelmed by the meal experience. Came with a large(r) group, and the staff was extremely accommodating to this request (we did have a reservation set-up) and provided excellent service to all. Given the small footprint inside and the densely populated dining space, the cranked up music made it quite difficult to hear each other speak and hold a conversation. Having said that, it is certainly a lively place filled with energy! As for the meal itself...there were issues. Our table received a couple of plates of complimentary biscuits with jelly and butter, but they were already fairly cool and therefore more on the hard and dry side than warm and fluffy. I did enjoy their jelly / butter combo. For my main dish I opted for the chicken and waffles, upgrading my plate to both a breast and thigh in order to try both variations (you can choose either/or). The waffle sections came doused in powdered sugar (as was the warm syrup) and two decent sized boneless chicken pieces breaded and fried. The waffle were certainly on the dry side, which was a bit disappointing. The fried batter on the chicken lacked any real punch of flavor so I applied the available homemade hot sauce which was on the tame side in terms of heat and spice flavor as well. Maybe it was just an off night in the kitchen? Maybe a brunch meal is the better option (as many others here have noted)? Not sure what was going on, but things were "off". read more

We have gone here on multiple occasions with groups for celebrations and get togethers. Over the years, it is one of our favorite spots. It's moody and candlelit, romantic, but has a close dinner party feel. Wonderful whiskey and cocktails. The apps are to die for, and you get served a large portioned meal with really good quality protein. All the sides and flavors really go well together in every dish I've had. It is also consistently good every time we go here! Waitstaff is friendly and really can recommend great menu options. It is always busy! We recommend you make a reservation or you'll for sure have to wait! :) We saw that the lease for the current location is possibly being turned over to a Chipotle next year in a Cleveland news outlet. This is so disheartening and saddening. We definitely need to stop by a few more times to show our support!! This location is a staple and the space is really nice. Came in here on a Thursday night after several recommendations and was amazed at how refined and cozy the small dining room felt! Perfect for date night. Started off with complimentary biscuits, butter, and jam to kick off the southern vibes. We tried the buffalo hush puppies which were fantastic. The biscuits and jam that they give to each table are also a treat. We had one small issue with the hash tasting a bit charred, enough to where it was interfering with the rest of the meal and they had the kitchen remake it without an issue. It was PACKED in a matter of minutes, but we were lucky enough to snag a table. Our waiter was incredibly friendly and helpful, and it didn't take too long to figure out what we wanted. The menu is short which works in my book. It means they make a few things well, and that prophecy ended up coming true. We ordered the crab cake appetizer which was tasty, though perhaps the most lackluster part of our meal. We were glad we tried it though. I loved my chicken and waffles entree and my fiancé really enjoyed his Nashville chicken sandwich. I snagged a couple bites before it started getting too spicy for me, but I still enjoyed it! We ordered drinks too, and they were all really delicious. Overall we enjoyed our evening. The final bill caught us a little off guard, so keep in mind this is a pricier sort of place. Something about them make you feel right at home or like you've known them for a while. On to the food. Since the place is called Chicken and Whiskey, I decided to order the Chicken and Waffles + a side of bacon. To my surprise, they start you out with a complimentary biscuit and what I believe is housemade jam+ butter. The jam and butter were delicious. The biscuit was warm but a little dense for my liking. The Chicken was perfectly seasoned, piping hot, and crispy. They definitely live up to their name when it comes to the chicken. The Waffle was just okay texture wise and seasoned with fresh rosemary. Could have skipped the rosemary. They also offer their housemade hot sauce which was wonderful. I enjoyed mixing it with the syrup and dipping my chicken in it. Yum! The bacon was thick, crispy and sticky. definitely recommend if you're a bacon lover. All in all, I'd revisit when I return to Cleveland as I'd love to try some of their dinner/lunch entrees (and some whiskey). read more

I wish I could give 4.5 stars! The food was phenomenal, but the drinks were meh. We arrived for brunch about 5 minutes before they opened, and there was already a line forming. I would definitely suggest having a reservation, as the place was full literally within 15 minutes. Luckily they had a few tables available for walk-ins, and we were able to snag one. Our server was super nice and very fast, which was good because we were pretty starved. We started with a couple of cocktails, which were honestly pretty underwhelming. Both were a bit watery and bland, though not horrible. Our disappointment was balanced out by the wonderful biscuits we were brought instead of bread. They were so ridiculously yummy, and the jam and rosemary butter was good enough that I may have had a spoonful by itself! For our meal we got the chicken and waffles and the steak and eggs, both of which were phenomenal. The waffles were not overly sweet or heavy, which I loved. The steak was also cooked to perfection, and the potato/brussels/bacon hash is a brilliant idea executed perfectly. The rosemary in the waffles really enhance the flavoring. The chicken is so juicy. And the complimentary biscuits are delicious too. I am probably the only person that goes to a chicken and waffle House and orders steak. We went on a recommendation of the bed & breakfast we were staying at. It was a short walk from where we were staying. The area was very busy and street parking was available but with Jeff's big Ford Tremor it was very tight. So we parked and walked. It was 8:39 on Saturday night and we had made reservations earlier. The restaurant closes at 9:00pm because it's more of a bunch, lunch, and an early dinner place. It's a small space, and we were seated at a table for two by the window so people watching was our dinner entertainment since the atmosphere was loud and chatty we couldn't really hold a conversation unless we yelled. Battery operated candles on the tables, dim lighting and the place smelled good. So many of the items offered fried I thought you might smell the fryer but I couldn't. $40.00 for a bottle of red wine eeks but wanted so I got it. Jeff had an old fashioned. I found it strange when the waitress took the order she didn't ask what type of bourbon he wanted in his old fashioned. Thankfully Jeff likes wild turkey so the old fashioned was a success; Jeff had a chicken breast sandwich with fries, said it was delicious. I was pleasantly surprised by the steak. Cooked perfect, sitting in a bed of mashed potatoes and a delicious cauliflower dressing! I was impressed with the flavors for a chicken place. The side kicker of Gouda Mac and cheese is also yummy. Had dinner here on a Saturday night with my husband and another couple. It wasn't too busy and we were able to get a table right away. It's a small restaurant, but very cute inside and nicely decorated. They have an impressive bar and bourbon collection (which was the bigger part of why we wanted to come). Our server was very friendly, but she was not very efficient. I don't know if they were short staffed or what the issue was- however the food came out in a timely fashion. First, drinks. My husband and I had neat pours of bourbon. Pretty decent prices. Again, huge selection. Our friend got the Wheated bourbon flight mainly because of one particular pour (the 1792 sweet wheat) and was very disappointed when it came out and had been swapped out. When you're paying for pricier flights, you should really know ahead of time what you're getting. As far as food, I really didn't find their biscuits very good. They were a little dry. However, all of our chicken entrees were really good. I got the Evenin' and it was absolutely delicious. The fact that they debone their chicken breasts and thighs delights me immensely. The chicken was crispy and perfectly seasoned. My husband got the Late Night and he really enjoyed it as well, however their bbq sauce that they serve with it should not be called a bbq sauce. It's weird. And not in a good way. It's heavy on the spice- not heat, but like actual baking spice- I think Clove. As we were finishing dinner, our server took the bourbon menu back and never asked us if we wanted more drinks or anything. And then we had to wait a good 20 minutes to flag her down to get our check- and again, they still weren't busy or on a wait. I would have happily have given this place 5 stars (or more), but the inefficient service really took away from the experience.
