You can't beat the awesome ambiance that's created by ceiling skylights and the whimsical spiral stairs in the middle of the restaurant. I got the fish and chips and my dad got the heck's burger. The fish wasn't really seasoned at all, but it was nice and crispy. The tartar sauce was really tasty and I even used it for my potato wedges. Oh and I loved the slaw!!!! It was vinegar based and reminded me of like a Thai slaw. You can never go wrong with their burgers, however i did see a few other items on the menu that looked intriguing . It's a charming neighborhood, particularly with the Autumn leaves blanketing the area. Lunch was exceptional. I had the Au Chaval Burger. Mind you, I was skeptical because I used to live within walking distance from the actual "Au Chaval" in Chicago. This was every bit as good as the original, and trust me, the Au Chaval burger is better than you can imagine. It was two sunny-side-up eggs on excellent, high-quality beef with a dollop of sour cream and a quality bun. The fries are excellent, just soft enough to dip in ketchup and mayo and very tasty, not the least bit greasy. The service was as good as it gets. Heck's Cafe does not disappoint. I made a reservation and was seated where I was preferenced. I greatly appreciated the acknowledgement of my note on my opentable reservation. The cute scenic view of the spiral staircase with sunlight coming in through the windows is my favorite. Our waiter was very attentive, flexible and kind. We ordered the pierogis and potstickers as appetizers. It wasn't as flavorful as I remember it. But still not too bad, although they were pricey appetizers at $13, when my large burger and fries were only $15. One thing I will say is service is kinda slow, but I understand that they're very busy and have a lot going on so I definitely don't count that against them. I ordered the Ohio City Burger, the spice flavor was strong, but kinda wish I would've opted for a burger with an aioli sauce since it was dry. My friend got the blackened salmon burger which she enjoyed. The fries were decent too and I appreciated the large pickle slice. I was meeting a new friend for the first time, and while the environment was a bit loud, it was a great spot for good conversation and refreshments. I ordered the calamari as an appetizer; it was delicious! The sauce it was in was a great touch. For dinner, I ordered a Caesar salad with salmon, and the salmon was cooked perfectly. For dessert, I was between the salted caramel pretzel bread pudding and the vanilla crème brûlée. I ended up ordering the bread pudding, which was a bit dense but good. I think I'll order the crème brûlée next time. My friend seemed to enjoy her food as well. She's dairy and gluten-free, and they had no problem accommodating her. The only part of my experience that I didn't care for was my drink. I ordered a Bloody Mary with garlic-infused vodka, and it just wasn't for me. We were seated readily at a table outside even though we didn't have reservations (thankfully we were early because it was pretty busy when we left). My friends and I came for brunch on a Sunday and the staff were super accommodating of our large group. The brunch menu is unique and features items such as baklava French toast. I was surprised that they did not offer any pancake options. I got the ABC omelet which ended up being super large and hearty. My boyfriend got the wild things hash that had chicken, pesto, mushrooms, and goat cheese. Both items were flavorful and delicious.
