You can't beat the awesome ambiance that's created by ceiling skylights and the whimsical spiral stairs in the middle of the restaurant. I got the fish and chips and my dad got the heck's burger. The fish wasn't really seasoned at all, but it was nice and crispy. The tartar sauce was really tasty and I even used it for my potato wedges. Oh and I loved the slaw!!!! It was vinegar based and reminded me of like a Thai slaw. You can never go wrong with their burgers, however i did see a few other items on the menu that looked intriguing . Mind you, I was skeptical because I used to live within walking distance from the actual "Au Chaval" in Chicago. This was every bit as good as the original, and trust me, the Au Chaval burger is better than you can imagine. It was two sunny-side-up eggs on excellent, high-quality beef with a dollop of sour cream and a quality bun. The fries are excellent, just soft enough to dip in ketchup and mayo and very tasty, not the least bit greasy. The service was as good as it gets. The cute scenic view of the spiral staircase with sunlight coming in through the windows is my favorite. Our waiter was very attentive, flexible and kind. We ordered the pierogis and potstickers as appetizers. It wasn't as flavorful as I remember it. But still not too bad, although they were pricey appetizers at $13, when my large burger and fries were only $15. One thing I will say is service is kinda slow, but I understand that they're very busy and have a lot going on so I definitely don't count that against them. I ordered the Ohio City Burger, the spice flavor was strong, but kinda wish I would've opted for a burger with an aioli sauce since it was dry. My friend got the blackened salmon burger which she enjoyed. The fries were decent too and I appreciated the large pickle slice. The basic coffee was surprisingly amazing and had a very strong fall mix taste. Highly recommend for anyone new to the area to check out Heck's. I ordered the calamari as an appetizer; it was delicious! The sauce it was in was a great touch. For dinner, I ordered a Caesar salad with salmon, and the salmon was cooked perfectly. For dessert, I was between the salted caramel pretzel bread pudding and the vanilla crème brûlée. I ended up ordering the bread pudding, which was a bit dense but good. I think I'll order the crème brûlée next time. My friend seemed to enjoy her food as well. She's dairy and gluten-free, and they had no problem accommodating her. The only part of my experience that I didn't care for was my drink. I ordered a Bloody Mary with garlic-infused vodka, and it just wasn't for me. Went for Sunday brunch, while the food was very good, I am writing this review because the staff was exceptional, especially our server, Ylli. We didn't want for anything, we didn't have to ask for anything, we never had a half empty glass of water or mug of coffee. 100% in tune to what we wanted/needed before we realized it and his presence was never interrupting or annoying. Ylli should get a big raise and a promotion to head server. He truly has it all. Service by our waitress, Angel was great here but thats where this ends for us. Outside seating which sounded nice to us all. However you get the smell of every vehicles exhaust wafting over to your table when they stop at the light. That bitter smell and no fault to the restaurant but some of the most obnoxious and loud people I have ever sat next to outside let alone inside anywhere I have sat seated behind us. Maybe inside is better but the food wasnt all that impressive either. The rosemary and parm fries were unimpressive. Could have made better at home but they were fresh cut. Salmon burger was very salty. Regular burger was decent but a little weird tasting. Heck sauce was actually the best thing to put on the fries to make they worth eating. Stopped in on Saturday for an early dinner and had a lovely time! We were seated readily at a table outside even though we didn't have reservations (thankfully we were early because it was pretty busy when we left). We were told the ravioli and tacos were new additions to the menu and I hope they stay because both were excellent! The ravioli was stuffed with mushrooms inside and the flavoring was perfect. The tacos contained generous portions of well-cooked halibut and the slaw and aioli were great. I didn't try the salmon burger but the fries were soooo good. Perfect experience all around. Came here for brunch with a few buddies. On a Saturday morning. Miso Salmon was delicious. Wild things skillet left a lot to be desired. Ohio City Breakfast was basic and had pineapple as the side of fruit. The design and decoration of the restaurant is really cool. I love the plants and the natural light!
