Found this restaurant on Yelp before a trip to Cleveland! I wanted a little boozy brunch before heading to the Ravens/Browns game. We arrived a little bit after 11 and there was a 15-20 minute wait. It was busy for brunch! We ended up getting seated at the bar. My husband got the fried cat fish, and I got the NY strip. I also opted for the bottomless mimosas for $30. Our food took a bit to come out but it was fine just enjoying the ambiance (and they were busy). When the food came, I tried my husbands catfish which was really yummy! The NY strip steak was a really thin steak which I was a tad disappointed in, but overall the portion sizes were large and for the price ($27) it still felt like it was worth it. Really disappointed. Came in for a table for two, with my service dog. They sat two other people that came in 10 minutes after me, then when I got upset explained that they were waiting for a specific table to leave. (The people paid their check and sat for another 45 minutes, leaving the same time we asked for our check) I explained that seating people before me, then hoping a table would leave to accommodate me, while not communicating with me is not ok. I was met with "oh" and "yeah, but". I ended up sitting at a high top which is uncomfortable for me but they seemed unwilling to help find a solution other than apologies. (Lydia was very nice) I am light skinned and my partner is white, everyone else was black. It crossed my mind as to why, but I hope it's not the case that we were discriminated against. I got the catfish, shrimp, and grits but subbed for fried catfish. The catfish was perfectly fried and crispy. The sauce was a tad bit too runny for me. It tasted really good, but something in it made me feel nauseous halfway through my meal. My friend had the same reaction and couldn't finish hers. Could have been something we had prior. Favorite meal of the day is always brunch and finding new and delicious options is a hobby for me. This place was on my radar for a few months and I'm glad we made it on a Sunday afternoon. 1. Location: downtown which I enjoy - I didn't have high hopes for parking and needed to valet for $25. arrived around 1pm and were seated right away in the ht the cozy space with tons of windows and lighting. 2. Ambience- it was game day and I like to see basketball or football when I'm out- they had several large screens. About midway through the meal a DJ setup and played some nice R&B throughout the rest of brunch which my kids and I loved 3. Food- the menu was small but when it comes to brunch if you do it right you don't need too much. I was with my 6 yr old and 17 yr old and we found items for everyone's taste. The shrimp and grits was seasoned to perfection with great portions. The steak and eggs were right the first time. I snuck a bite of the chicken and waffles which were light as well. I can't give them any more stars because we waited nearly 30 minutes for the check. I received a water refill once in the 1.5 hour visit. That part of the visit was disappointing. read more

Excellent food. Down home southern breakfast in downtown Cleveland! They give you big portions and the food was flavorful. Service for the most part was really good. They get really busy and I don't believe they accept reservations. So expect a wait if it's the weekend. (There is a counter that is first come first serve which could be quicker than getting seated at a table) Valet parking is available right in front but you may be able to find cheaper street parking in the area. read more

Outstanding breakfast/brunch. Four of us all had different plates. Thick fluffy French toast cooked well. Chicken and waffles, great seasoned chicken and flavorful perfectly cooked waffles. 24k pancakes as big as the plate, soft, tender, great batter flavor. The skillet with potatoes, eggs, cheese and country gravy was layered well and complementing flavorful. Everything was large portioned. Bloody Mary was spicy and well garnished! Last weekend 2 friends and I visited Double Nickel for Sunday brunch. There was a short wait for a table, so we decided to sit at the bar. The restaurant is small but comfortable, and there is an extra room for private dinner parties. They offer bottomless mimosas for $25/person, which is a pretty good price. I was happy to see that the mimosas weren't pre-batched and that we could switch between cranberry, pineapple and orange juice. There were a few other drinks on the brunch cocktail menu that looked good as well. They were out of the cinnamon roll skillet, which we were going to have as an app, so that was a bummer. I did see a few people get the French toast which was big and looked yummy. Myself and another friend got the fried catfish which came with eggs and your choice of grits or breakfast potatoes. The catfish was excellent. Perfectly fried and well seasoned. I got the breakfast potatoes which were likely not homemade but they did add sautéed peppers and onions, so they were pretty good. My friend got the grits with cheese but said they came out a bit cold so they weren't enjoyable. I tried a bite of the salmon croquette. Let's just say it didn't change my feelings about salmon croquettes. It's a no for me. Overall, Double Nickel is a good, low key spot for brunch. Nice portions that will leave you full and food that is simple, yet packed with flavor. The service was pretty mediocre. Our server/bartender was not overly friendly and somewhat nonchalant, but she wasn't mean. The Double Nickel puts me in a pickle. The food is okay--not bad, but nothing to rave about. They say the fish is the main attraction, but since I'm allergic, I went with the steak and eggs. The steak was good, though I wish they had cut it before plating. The eggs had no salt or pepper, but that's fine since it was on the table. The potatoes were well-seasoned. Overall, the food was decent, but my rating isn't based on the food--it's the ambiance and service that brought it down. The service was mediocre and felt rushed. I understand they get busy, but it shouldn't feel that way. We waited 20 minutes to be seated at a table that was already open when we walked in. It took the waitress 10 minutes just to bring water and take our order. We ordered coffee and orange juice, which never arrived, yet they tacked on an 18% gratuity despite us only interacting with our waitress twice--once when she took our order and again when she brought the food. (I originally planned to give 3 stars, but after writing this, I had to drop it to 2 just thinking about the service.) The ambiance is okay, but it feels like they're stuck between being a nice family brunch spot and a modern, urban brunch scene. We came into town for a wedding and were looking for a good brunch place. This place didn't disappoint. I had the chicken and waffles and it was delicious. My husband had the double nickel skillet and he loved it too. The only thing we wouldn't order again is the bacon, it's just regular bacon for $7. They have music playing but it wasn't too loud which was great. We had to wait about 40 minutes for a table but more than half of the restaurant was closed so it wasn't too bad for a wait all things considered. Would definitely recommend! read more

I don't know what to say other than it's got to be me. I've read all of the five star reviews and I just don't understand. I went here with some friends around noon on a Saturday for brunch. I believe we waited about 45 minutes for a table. It is a pretty small space. They eventually had to tell a table after they had been checked out for at least 20 minutes that they had to leave so we could sit down. The staff was all extremely friendly, which honestly is why I've given it even a three star rating. Everyone was so friendly and helpful from the hostesses to our waitress. The service was extremely slow. We waited nearly an hour for our food after ordering. One of my friends had to box up their food immediately when when it arrived because they couldn't wait any longer. Our waitress was extremely apologetic and I appreciate that but waiting an hour for food it's unreasonable. We drank cup of coffee, after cup of coffee while waiting for our food. Our waitress was very attentive. I was not pleased with my meal at all. I got the New York strip with eggs, potatoes, and toast. The New York strip was extremely overcooked, and I doubt if that was even actually a steak to be honest, it looked and tasted more like pork if you ask me - I don't know I just was not happy. I did not tell this to the waitress. This is not her fault and we had already waited so long. I was just disappointed and paying $25 for a meal that wasn't even good. The decor is beautiful - the very cute space and they also offer a room for private events which I think is pretty neat. Came in as a party of 1 for a game day breakfast. I was given the choice to wait for a table or bar seating was available--I opted for bar seating. I was greeted by the ladies serving the bar, who quickly brought me water and asked if there was anything else I'd like to drink while I looked over their menu. I got the house coffee, which is good and strong. They offer coffee mate creamers and sugar. I got the "55" breakfast on the menu which is two eggs any style, bacon, wheat toast (white or white are the options), and strawberry jam. It was really good, well plated, and the breakfast held me over through the 1pm game as the amount of protein will definitely hold you over. The dining area itself was nice and clean, filled with patrons, and everyone at the bar talked with one another. For party of 2 we ordered the French toast and chicken wings (3) were seasoned and presented well. It is all about the presentation that sets the tone at the table. The mimosas were a bit small on the serving size. However, several issues negatively impacted our experience. The server's attire was inappropriate for a dining establishment, resembling more of a nightclub outfit, with an exposed midriff and very short shorts. Frankly, no establishment, should subject guests to an atmosphere that feels like a nightclub or brunch party rather than a professional dining experience. This felt unprofessional and not fitting for a place serving hot food and drinks, reflecting poorly on management's standards. The billing was confusing and frustrating. For a party of two, an automatic 18% gratuity was added, which is usually reserved for larger groups. The receipt also included an unclear charge labeled "guests 4." The detailed charges were: subtotal $75.00, tax $4.64, credit card surcharge $2.63, and 18% gratuity $13. 50, totaling $95.77 for brunch. The order took place at 12:51 p.m., check number 42, on August 10, 2025. Please be sure to carefully review your bill before making payment. Cleanliness was another problem. The salt and pepper shakers on the table were dirty, and the bathroom was untidy, with paper towels and toilet tissue scattered in the sink and floor. I took pictures to show the manager. I was over it by the time I returned to the table with no towel to dry my hands off with. When you walk into a Black-owned brunch spot in Cleveland, it should be known for its class and professionalism, setting the standard as a top-notch place to attend. For example, establishments like Ruth's Chris, Blue Point, and Red's maintain a respectful and polished atmosphere-no guests are subjected to servers walking around with exposed midriffs or nightclub-style attire. Frankly, no restaurant, regardless of its style, should create an environment that feels more like a nightclub or party than a dining experience. Such presentation is unsanitary and unprofessional, and it reflects poorly on the business as a whole. To add to that, the location is a great destination for brunch. If I could give it a zero! I would. We called before heading over there to avoid any waitlist or wait time. One of the staff members answered and informed us that there was no wait time and we headed that way! When we arrived the place looked very empty. It was 6 of us and we were very happy since we had just left a breakfast place that was jam packed and had a 45 minute wait list. Our server sat us in the back room, pretty much hidden away from the rest of the restaurant. Though it was spacious we felt very isolated and did not get to enjoy the whole restaurant experience. Our server was kind but she did miss items such as napkins, and refills for our water. When it was finally time to order, after sitting for sometime, the waitress started taking our order. Everything went well and she even offered a smash burger instead of a regular burger to my husband which was on special for $12 . So that was great and we were under the impression that we would get our order just how we wanted it. Unfortunately this was not the case, we waited for our food for about 45 minutes. The food came one plate at a time and my husbands burger had raw onions and not the grilled. The burger looked nothing like a smash burger but we trusted that the server knew what she was doing. My husband still wanted the grilled onions so he asked the server but the onions never came. We all had finished our meals and the waiter never came back. As we wrapped up and got ready to pay we brought this up to the servers attention and the owner/manager on duty. TERRIBLE AND POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE. We were told that it was our fault that the burger was not completed the way we had ordered it. We were charged incorrectly and extra items were on the receipt (grilled onions). We were told that we were in a hurry and had to catch a flight?!!!, which was not true at all, however this justified why we did not get the right customer service according to the staff members there. Was not able to get any names from any staff member. Overall very disappointing and will not be coming back. We drove from Chicago with high hopes for this place and we left with the most disturbing experience ever. read more
