After running the Cleveland Marathon we knew we needed to eat and no where better for breakfast than Grumpys. The huevos rancheros with sunny side up eggs is perfect, so perfect 2 of us ordered it, blueberry pancakes on the side with the Mexican omelette for my husband. The eclectic vibe is great, the menu is classic with a fresh twist. If it's nice enough you can sit on the enclosed patio. Oh and a dedicated parking lot for guests is a bonus all in itself. We were visiting from out of town and read great things about this restaurant. We had eight people and were told it would be a 45-minute wait. We were totally fine with that, went and grabbed a coffee from a local shop, and then returned to the restaurant. Food was great and the server was so kind! The reason for the 3-star review is because the hostess was very rude. She completely shattered an easy 5-star review. We had nine people in the family, and one was golfing. We intended to put in a takeout order for him but due to the 45-minute wait, he ended up finishing before we were even seated. We invited him to come along and then we were called to be sat. We ordered his meal for him prior to him arriving and this was still a major problem for the hostess. She basically threatened to move us back outside and told us we were "holding the table" even though we would have never done that. Instead of giving me the opportunity to explain to her we would have done takeout anyways had he not arrived(but he did because again, it was a 45 minute wait), she just continued to talk over me. It made all of us very uncomfortable and the first 10 minutes we felt very on edge and unwelcomed. She then did the same thing to our ninth person when they walked in the restaurant 5 minutes after. He had no idea what had already occurred and was also caught off guard. Most of us worked in this industry in the past, and we thought we were doing the right thing by letting her know. Was busy and other people were waiting outside, but I guess we lucked out because our party of four was seated right away! Also, they have a parking lot which is convenient! The coffee is always good. I believe they use Caruso's. And it's so fun to see what mug you get because they are all different! Seating is very tight, walls are covered in art. Very eclectic place. What a gem of a place. Simple, delicious food. Attentive, kind staff. Plenty of parking, plenty of seating, plenty of choices. The decorations are fun, they offered a choice of seating, and everything was clean and well kept. The west 14th omelet: eggs, Swiss cheese, corned beef hash, toast, and potatoes -- all done perfectly. Added onions for no additional charge. Can't wait to come back and try more of the menu. Cajun home fries were fine but not special- no crispiness or anything just a bit of Cajun type spice. Fake butter packet things were gross. Need real butter. The wheat toast was good but I can make good toast lol. The pork boxty had relatively dry pulled pork thank god with sauce atop all over a greasy potato pancake. I really enjoyed my visit to Grumpy's. We arrived about 1 hour before close so it was not busy. From what I understand there is usually a wait. The dining/bar are is decorated with artwork that is for sale. It has a very comfortable feel when you walk in. The staff is friendly and helpful. They did not hurry us, but we were also sure to be out in a timely manner. The best part is they have several vegan options on the menu. They carry vegan products that many restaurants don't carry. The servers seem knowledgeable and confident about the vegan options as well. As a diner that makes me more comfortable and that alone makes me want to go back. Roommate and I were leaving from the dog shelter after adopting a dog (has been neutered and will be back for him) and drove passed this place and saw it was busy. Made a U-turn to come back to it to give it a try. Waited no more than about 20-25 minutes. I had the Fancy Schmancy Burger‌ minus the onions and it was delicious. Egg was nice and runny and bacon was cooked perfectly. Staff was nice and friendly with fast service. There is art work on the walls for sale with a welcoming feeling. Been here a few times and never disappoints. Had a what they said was a 20 minute wait and I dont think it was even 10 minutes for the 4 of us. Waitress was right on the table after we got settled getting me a much needed cup of coffee and the others all drinks. The art hanging on the walls is nice and love that you can support local artists if you choose to do so. The sausage gravy and biscuits were very good. The walker hash is my go to here. I had heard some good things about this place and we decided to try it with family visiting from out of town. We showed up late morning ish on a Saturday and had about a half hour wait. They were really friendly and helpful and gave us a phone call when our table was ready. The restaurant was packed and way larger than it looked on the outside. It's decorated with lots of cool local art and the mugs are all mismatched. I had my tea in a Christmas mug! Among us, we had eggs benedict, eggs Florentine, biscuits and gravy, and pancakes. Lovely breakfast/brunch place open till 3pm in a pretty chill neighborhood of Cleveland. It's def very small town diner style spot that seems to have been and old house converted. Mary was super nice. We ordered the Cinnamon Roll (GF) pancakes and Eggs Benedict (sub for biscuit instead of English muffin) and shared. The poached eggs were just 1 min over done but the hospitality made up for it. They were very accommodating and super nice from the hostess to the server. 4 minute drive from MetroHealth Main Campus, so a perfect post-doc visit spot. I remember loving this place a few years back and was super excited to try it again. The place is super cozy and gives off a really homey vibe. They have a big adjoining parking lot, so parking isn't a problem, even though they are usually pretty busy. We were seated quickly and service was great. Got coffee and water right away and ordered within like 5 minutes. I remember really enjoying a pancake the last time I was there, so I was excited to get another one. I couldn't remember the flavor, but remembered it was something seasonal. This time I got the cinnamon roll pancake and was pretty disappointed. It wasn't sweet and was kind of cold. I think they may make their pancakes with cornmeal or something more cake-like. Whatever it is, it wasn't very good or fluffy like most others. I got the egg skillet with tomatoes, mushrooms, and spinach. The veggies that comes with it were broccoli, carrots, and red cabbage all mixed together. Nothing that I would typically put in a breakfast bowl, so I swapped them out for the other veggies that the server mentioned and was a little surprised to be charged .50 for each. I also got an order of turkey sausage which I thought would be an additional $1 from the way it was listed on the menu, but it was $5. The bowl was really tasty and their cajun home fries are delicious. My mom got the biscuits and gravy, which were just fine. There wasn't much sausage meat in the gravy and it was a bit thick IMO. The biscuit was also just okay. I don't think we'd try that again, but would return for another good breakfast in a cozy spot. The waffles looked amazing. Grumpys is a well known spot in Tremont. It hops on the weekends (expect a wait) and hops during the week. I imagine hundreds of business deals are done here weekly. Parking is ample, close and free. A rarity these days. We had a party of 4 and were quoted a 30 minute wait time, got in in 25. Not too shabby. Check in is a breeze and super friendly. Leave your name and number and they'll text you when ready. Service was fast and efficient, and even tho it seemed like they were super busy, our coffee was always full and we had everything we needed. The place hosts a lot of larger groups and was really loud when we arrived. It quieted a bit as they left but be prepared for a louder than normal experience. The food was good, although the home fries came out warm, not hot. The Eggs Florentine seems to be a staff favorite. When ordered, our server affirmed "Great choice" and when delivered, the runner said, "That's my favorite!" Pancakes were large and fluffy and tasty. Price point for everything feels reasonable for the area and amount of food you get. Grumpys is a fun experience. Found this little gem while visiting the area a few months back. The decor is very unique and looked like it was a favorite for the locals. We met friends while we were on a mini Dave Matthews Band Tour that ended with us meeting up at the Rock en Roll Hall of Fame and the Christmas Story house. We didn't realize some places close for a few hours between lunch and dinner but found Grumpy was thankfully open. We had a nice lunch before heading back home to Buffalo and them to Pittsburgh. The server noted that they had recently started taking Uber Eats/Doordash orders and the growing pains were apparent. Once our food did come it was cold and just left a lot to be desired. The meatloaf was served on a plate with mashed potatoes and covered with brown gravy. The meatloaf itself was very rosemary-heavy. The coffee is served hot and fresh, but it's standard and nothing exciting.
