Gunselmans is a neighborhood tavern that serves great food. They have a outdoor patio. It's been in business since the 1930's. I've had many of the menu items over the years. Everything is awesome! The service is always friendly and attentive. Tonight I had the pierogi melt burger. The bun is 2 large pierogies. It had provolone cheese and grilled onions. Visited Gunselmans after reading a Reddit post regarding "best burger in Cleveland" I came here seeking a good burger as I was recently disappointed by my experience at Whitey's Tavern in Richfield. This place had a gnarly wait. Front house staff was transparent but kept pushing my party of 2 back. Lent menu was small, a few fish fry options and only one burger on the menu. I ordered the cheeseburger with everything on it. Ketchup mustard onions lettuce tomato American cheese. Burger was large and favorful. In fact you can tell its a really good mix of 80/20 because it was dripping in juices. Fries were crispy and came with just the right amount (and a pleasant surprise of nacho cheese sauce). Burger was well worth the price of only $12 and 25 min drive. I will be back. Hard to get such a good burger with fries at this price. 8.8/10 I do recommend visiting. read more

Gunselmans, a neighborhood staple. We usually walk to the end of the street and it's like stepping into the bar of a friend, always packed with familiar faces. It is hard to find a restaurant that stays open after 10 pm around the airport. We chose this place since it was close to the hotel for quick bite. It is an Irish pub that people like their burgers. I chose Gold Jacket because of the Wagyu Patty. It was delicious though little bit greasy. The fires were so fresh that I ate them all. There are more burgers to chose from. What was delivered was 2 small containers, each held 1 skimpy reuben roll cut in 1/2. As if they took one dmall order, placed in 2 containers and charged us full price for both. Been dying to try this restaurant Tavern for quite a few years and I finally got there today in one of Cleveland's worst snowstorms so the ride was a nailbiter to start with and I arrived at 1 o'clock in the parking lot, which is quite small for a restaurant of their size was full. Of course the snow did take up a couple spots and the street parking was taken up on Lorain and up the side street so I drove around for a little bit looking for some other street parking, but most of it was two hours only they need to do something about the parking lot for this restaurant. They're more than likely losing money just with this one item. So my colleague arrived and we got menus and I asked for Diet Cola no ice and since the fountain was to the left of me, I watched her put 3/4 of a glass of ice in glass and I mentioned to her I think I told you no ice didn't I? Oh yeah, I wasn't Thinking, really? And then when she brought me the Diet Cola with no ice, it wasn't diet cola it was sugar cola, and as a diabetic, I can't do that. We both ordered salads. He ordered the Cobb salad with no tomatoes, and I ordered the seasonal nut salad with no feta cheese. Both of them came with a chicken breast nicely cooked nicely sliced and nicely presented, but I only got one small container on the side of whatever dressing came with the salad and the salad was quite a large portion. I might add that the Cobb salad was also a nice portion. It came with two dressing cups on the side, but again the colleague had ordered it with no tomatoes, and there was a mountain of halved grape tomatoes and of course, I had to make mention cause I'm moving all the tomatoes to my salad which I didn't want either cause I don't eat tomatoes. Patrick's day) we were sat quickly and our orders taken not long after, I ordered the classic chicken tenders and fries where my friend ordered the fish & chips. An unusual place, but the food was good. I had Chicken and Waffles and someone else had the Hangover Burger on an English Muffin with Bacon and A Sunnyside up egg. Both were great. And if I may add, my Maple Syrup was mixed with Hot Sauce, very skillfully done. No Ambiance to speak of unless you like turn of the century decors. (I do). this place is phenomenal! first off, the atmosphere is awesome. really feels like hometown USA in here. everything on the menu looked and sounded amazing. i caught myself looking at all the food coming out around me to different tables and wanting to order it all. we got a variety of different things to try and everything was awesome. the plain jane burger was so good and i can't wait to come back to try more of their famous burgers. we loved the fact that the burger came with a side of cheese sauce for the fries, it was an awesome Suprise. the fries and onion rings were AWESOME, great flavor and super crispy which I love. Definitely don't skip out on the onion rings and fries. I really want to try their other sides as well now! The stuffed cabbage was so yummy, the red sauce on top was so good that I asked for an additional side of it. They were stuffed to the max and laid on top of amazing garlic mashed potatoes. everything had such great flavor. the meatloaf was also super yummy, it came with gravy but honestly dipping it in ketchup was good for me. overall, this place is worth the hype! all the food was awesome and i can't wait to come back and try more from their menu. it was a bit of a hike for me, about 30/35 minutes but I would do the drive again in a heartbeat for sure! read more

Staff was very friendly and attentive. Looks like a cozy old school bar inside and clean. We had the sausage platter and it was AWESOME. Whenever my coworkers and I need a place to eat after work, we always find ourselves at Gunselman's as they have some of the best burgers and fries around Cleveland! We all decided to create our own burgers this night - and they were all delicious. (I got bacon on mine so I think mine was the best!) The side of fries is always a good idea here - so crispy and perfectly salted, I could eat a whole bucket of these fries!! My other friend got mashed potatoes and she said they were equally as tasty! The workers here are also so lovely and helpful even when the restaurant is very packed!! I have always loved this place. Burgers are phenomenal. I did get the city chicken as well, it wasn't very flavorful, or seasoned. The mashed potatoes were really lumpy. Kerri was our server. She seemed short and not happy. We were at a table and I don't know how her rotation is. But the place wasn't busy yet. I ordered the pierogi cheeseburger. The "bun" was a big pierogi on both sides. The burger was overcooked a tad for my medium request, but still flavorful. The side was sauerkraut, peppers, and onions. It also came with a thousand island like sauce. I requested sour cream as well, as I think it pairs well with the pierogis. Visiting Cleveland for the first time and this spot was highly recommended by locals on Facebook and Yelp! They have a dedicated parking lot. They offer indoor and outdoor seating. Upon entering, it definitely has the "old pub" vibe. I love all the old pics of Mr. Gunselman and the building. So cool to see the history in this establishment. Our server Izzie did a great job. We wanted to try something that we haven't seen or had before. The October burger of the month is the Roctoberfest for $18. It is served with potato pancakes and a Cleveland mustard cream sauce. This burger consists of a blend of brisket, Chuck and short rib. It is served on a pretzel bun topped with sautéed onion, cheddar cheese, spicy kielbasa medallions and Cleveland mustard cream sauce! Stepping back in history on December 11, 1936 was the day Henry Gunselman took over The Pastime Cafe and began the legacy of Gunselman's Tavern. We have heard so many raves about Gunselman's Tavern, we finally stopped in. It was a beautiful evening to sit on their patio. Every server we passed was friendly and welcoming. Our server was especially nice and attentive. Their menu has alittle more than your typical bar food. They have pierogis, cabbage and noodles, along with kielbasa. My husband ordered the fried chicken sandwich. And I ordered their famous steak sandwich. The food came very promptly. It was warm and delicious! The fried chicken extended way over the bun. My steak sandwich was so tender and had a good portion of mushrooms and onions on it. My husband had 2 beers. I had a blueberry lemonade. The drinks and dinners came to a more than reasonable $48.00. Was told by many sources that this is the best hamburger in town. I had to make the trek to check it out for myself. It is indeed good but not the best I've ever had and not quite worth the trek. There are places on the east side equally as good. Chris' in Cleveland Heights is better IMO. Also, the service is very slow. I had to repeat my order to waitress several times and it was just me at the bar. The bar has about 14 tables total and there were about 30 persons in the establishment, 2 servers handling everyone including the bar. It was obvious the waitresses were slammed. Visited for dinner during Pierogi Week in Cleveland. The place was packed, as they were one of the restaurants participating in Pierogi Week specials. We were quoted a 90 minute wait. While we waited for our table and the other half of our party, we sat at the bar for a bit. We had some drinks and noticed how many carry out orders the restaurant had. Our table was ready in about an hour and we sat down at one of the tables in the back room. Our server was very slow, didn't check on us very often, and it took forever to get our food and check when we were finally done. However, the food was excellent. I was the only one who didn't get a pierogi special, as they didn't have an option without dairy. So I opted for their Cobb Salad with Derby Dressing, minus the blue cheese. The salad is something I will definitely come back for - it was all about that dressing, along with the fresh cooked crispy bacon and avocado.
