My townhome went through a big restoration due to water damage and in the process I had a list of out-of-pocket upgrades I wanted done; the closet door in the hallway was one of the items on my list. I had already spoken to two other carpenters about this project and another barn door company but a web search pulled SoCal Barn Doors. After reading the info on SoCal Barn Doors website and Yelp reviews, I decided to call and schedule an appointment. Tony (the owner), was on time for the appointment; took the time to talk to me about the barn door I had in mind; about the different options; and, address my concerns, e.g., if they would be able to get a 60" door in through my front door, 3.5ft x 5ft entryway, and up a flight of stairs with a tight turnaround...YES!... which was exactly what I needed to hear! He took the measurements and let me know I'd receive the quote with all the specifics via email later that day. I had *more* questions when I received the quote and Tony was super responsive via email, answering all my questions and making any necessary adjustments. There was a lot of emails back and forth mainly because I was indecisive about the door I wanted and the color. Because of this, *I* set the production back a little...lol. I finally decided to stick with the original slab door I had in mind but wanted to color match it to my floor. (Tony advised during the initial appointment that color match is not always exact.) Angela, SoCal's admin support, worked with me over email on some of my door concerns and to schedule an appointment to drop off a piece of my flooring. When I brought my piece of flooring, Tony walked me through the wood that would be used and the staining process. Because I had LVP flooring, he advised again that the color may not be exact since LVP isn't wood. For some reason, I was ok with that and felt it was going to turn out fine. After this decision was finalized, production moved forward and my door was finished within the estimated 6-8 week time frame! Jude and Brandon delivered and installed the door. When they were bringing it up the stairs, I was beyond pleased with how the color turned out! Brandon let me know that he and Tony worked on the door and Tony really mixed with the color to get it close to matching my floor. The gloss coat was just enough to set it apart from the floor which makes such a nice contrast! I *love* it! I am so glad I chose SoCal Barn Doors for this project. Their price is comparable and the quality and workmanship is above board. What I appreciated most was their professionalism, responsiveness, and customer service which is so hard to find these days. *TLDR* Friendly. Professional. Customer focused. Highly recommend. *Price Quote Process* I contacted 4 businesses for a quote on my barn door project. Tony at Socal Barn Doors was the quickest to reply back and by far the friendliest and most attentive. He came out to my place within a few days and we had a good conversation where he explained to me all my options and answered all my questions. He had a clear, well-written estimate ready the next day. His pricing was also better than the others. *Build Process* After agreeing on the specifics, I paid 50% up front. Overall, it took longer to get it to a point where I could review the work than initially estimated, but not unreasonably so. I requested a door design that was less common. And this is custom work, all done by hand, not assembly lines so issues can come up. What was important was their willingness and ingenuity in finding solutions to make sure I was going to be happy with the final product. When I first reviewed the doors, I wasn't really happy with how the stain came out. It wasn't that even and the sheen was too shiny. We brain-stormed some options together and in the end, they chose to sand everything down and redo all the finish to make it perfect. What more can you ask for? *Install Process* There's a lot of work involved in installing these doors! They ran into some unforeseen fitment issues, but quickly came up with effective solutions. At the end of the day they had it installed perfectly and it all looked just as I had envisioned! The only thing that was less than perfect was that after they left I realized that all the walking around they'd done on my rug had left it with major dirt tracks all over. I had to get a carpet cleaner to fix it. Maybe they just forgot that they should've covered the area, easy fix for future. *Overall* I'm extremely happy with how it all turned out because it's exactly how I had envisioned it. It's not often that I've been able to imagine a grand idea/design and see it brought to life exactly as I'd hoped. Their attitude, professionalism and craftsmanship are top-notch. I'd say the only areas for improvement are paying extra attention to leaving client homes as clean as possible, and being a little quicker in responding back once the work actually starts. They're juggling multiple projects at once, not standing around looking at their phones, so it's understandable. But sometimes I had to hit them up multiple times to get a response after a day or two. read more

We picked out everything from the size, hardware, glass inset, and design of the door. We met with Tony at his shop to discuss and off we went and these arrived a few months later. SoCal did a large plank-style barn door for me a few months ago, and I am literally obsessed. The process was ridiculously easy: I sent them inspiration images a few months prior and paid a deposit. They dropped off stain samples soon after. I was invited to go to the workshop to check everything out, but life was chaotic and I never made it in. The time between ordering and install was something like 10 weeks, but they communicated this clearly to me, so I was happy to wait. They brought a few hardware choices based off the vibe I was going for on the day of install, and I made my choice on the fly. The guys that came out to install were so professional and awesome. You guys. My door. I don't even want to post a picture of it because it's so modern, stunning, beautiful... if I ever move I am taking it with me lol. We reached out to Tony after we purchased a rental home in Carlsbad that had no doors on any of the bedroom closets. We didn't want to ruin the look of the new floors with tracks for regular slider doors and thought barn doors would be really beautiful. So glad we decided to get barn doors! Tony and LynnRae are easy to work with and very nice and efficient. The doors took a long time because of Covid shortages, but they kept us updated. When the doors were ready, the installation went smoothly (I wasn't there but I didn't hear a thing about it). I saw photos and everything looks beautiful and was exactly as I imagined it would be! We decided to order one more barn door when we ordered for the rental house because we also have one bedroom without closet doors. The installation for this one was very difficult because room is up a stairway withj low clearance and down a narrow hall, so there wasn't much room to bring big doors in. The guys worked patiently to get the doors in. Plus, it was an attic install because the closet had no header and it was probably 100 degrees in the attic that day. Then the doors turned out to be too tall to slide over the carpet, but we're getting rid of the carpet so they took extra measurements before cutting to make the doors work on the new (less thick) flooring and wouldn't be too short. They basically were here all day to make it all work and even went above and beyond by cutting back the carpet (I asked them if they would do that) to make the doors slide correctly until the new floor was installed. That was really above and beyond! They also carefully cleaning everything up so there wouldn't be carpet staples or nails on the floor. The guys did such an amazing job had a great attitude despite the heat and small spaces. And of course, the doors are beautiful. Thank you so much, SoCal Barn Doors! read more

I was really excited about getting barn doors from SoCal Barn Doors and was planning to get three doors. The quality seemed great and price reasonable. Unfortunately, I was never able to purchase doors because they have been so unreliable in communication. I originally engaged them in mid-July. They sent me an email asking for my number so they could call me to talk about a quote. I sent my number but never heard back. I then used their web form to submit a request. I had to send several more emails and make several phone calls but was finally able to connect with LynneRae. She later sent me a proposal with cost options to which I sent another email stating I wanted to move forward. I then never heard back. After calling/emailing several more times (LynneRae was often in the car or otherwise unavailable and would tell me she'd call me back), I was able to set up an appointment to have my spaces measured for appropriate door sizing. At the last minute, they changed the appointment to earlier in the day so I changed my schedule to accommodate. Then they didn't show up to the appointment. Several hours later (when I told them I was unavailable) they called and said they were not able to come because they had another job to do and they would reschedule my appointment for the following Monday. Then no one ever let me know when they would be coming. After I didn't hear anything, I reached out to see about when they would actually be showing up. They told me I should find a different company that is closer to where I live. They advertise that they're in Orange County and I live in the city of Orange. Not sure where they prefer to get their business. This was nearly a month after I originally started talking to them. If you have endless time and patience, they might be great to work with. But for someone who has a tight schedule, and depends on people to be reliable, they were very difficult to work with. read more
