We had a great time at Sobies. We both had omelettes. My bruschetta omelette was fantastic. The homemade potato wedges were delicious. Overall very poor experience. Our server had a tendency to ask us a question and walk away before we had even answered. The artichoke dip appetizer was a bit odd having whole artichoke chunks with a light sauce. The cheese curds have an oiled taste and the sauce accompaniment is off. The water tastes strange also. When we were given a bread basket it had a long brown hair in it. Upon receiving the beef stroganoff, it was overly heavy and frankly a bit nauseating. Tasted like gravy with noodles. The restaurant itself is attractive I'll say, but small. A guest I was dining with also realized she was drinking out of a cracked glass served to her. That's about it. read more

We thoroughly enjoyed Sobie's last night for dinner. We started with a local Oconomowoc beer and a bourbon old fashioned- both good. For appetizer, it was happy hour so fried cheese curds were 1/2 off. The mustard dill dipping sauce was tasty- even better when we added extra Dijon to it. The curds were plump w cheese, yum- not overly bready nor overly fried. Our dinners were duck poutine, and a fried chicken combo. I appreciated that one could order all dark meat, all white meat, or mixed. I opted for all dark meat. Good thing my sister helped me; it was 2 thighs and 2 legs. Chicken and French Fries were perfectly cooked and delicious. Sister enjoyed her poutine too. Not the healthiest meal but we were on vacation, and that's what we ordered. We were seated in a booth across from the bar. We didn't realize the restaurant was filling up until we were leaving. It wasn't too loud, which was nice. Definitely recommended! read more

Nice cozy spot in downtown Oconomowoc. They do take reservations and are encouraged though if you're open to a spot at the bar for one or two people that generally seems open. They have a good variety of foods - seafood down to mac and cheese and sandwiches as well as poutines. I got the mac and cheese last time and was very pleasantly surprised at how rich and creamy it was - also added shrimp which was a generous portion and well cooked. Friday nights at the Sobies bar are always fantastic. Bartenders make great drinks and the food is great! We love the duck poutine, broasted chicken and fish fry. Gotta get an old fashioned and a jalapeño beer every time as well. Don't forget soups- those are great as well! read more

The inside of the restaurant looks really cool, it reminds me of a 1920s speak easy, even down to the music being played. However overall I thought the experience was okay, I'm not sure we will be giving it another try. The food was decent overall, the Ruben I ordered was fine - the fries were a highlight for me, those were delicious. The drinks on the fall menu sounded good in theory but didn't quite make the mark. The flavor profiles that they tried to combine sounded better than they were. The s'mores old fashion we had - chocolate flavors + old fashion vibes didn't quite work, and the maple margarita was just very sweet, nothing else about it was different from the average margarita. Service got better as the time went by, I think there was some miscommunication because our server walked away from us in the middle of taking our order. I'm going to assume they thought we needed more time to review the menu, but in actuality we wanted their opinion on narrowing down the options in front of us. read more

One of the best restaurants in Oconomowoc. Scratch kitchen. Comfort food type place. Broasted chicken, duck poutine and short rib are all lovely. Underrated star? The butter burger. Seriously...try that thing. I'm slightly a burger snob and this is one of the best in Milwaukee. Unfortunately the Halibut was forced off their menu. If it's ever back, don't even consider anything else. HoF GOAT type item. Went here for brunch recently. Wife and friend thought it was cute bc each coffee mug was unique. Sobie's is a great option when you're in the Oconomowoc area. The atmosphere is welcoming and you could dress up or dress down and all be comfortable. The cocktail menu looked fun (and everchanging!) but we opted for the half-off a bottle of wine option to pair with our entree and burger. The burgers are served "smash style" which isn't always my favorite, but it worked out well in the dish and the bread was very well made. My partner had the mushroom stroganoff topped with duck and it was absolutely delicious. We also highly recommend the artichoke dip, which comes with chips and with pita, so no matter your preference you can shovel it quickly into your mouth. We'll definitely be back to explore the rest of the menu. read more

The fish fry was just not good. I should have listened to the other low reviews. The baked cod was dry, as was the coleslaw. And while I appreciate not being hounded by a server, she didn't even stop by once during our meal. I didn't even get a refill on my Diet Coke. When she came to collect our plates and get our check, and she asked how everything was, I told her mine was dry and she said she wished I'd told her earlier because she could have done something about it. We did not receive any discount on our meal or anything, which is what I would have expected. There was nothing wrong with my mom's dish. Ordered Curried Shrimp Omelet off of the special order board. No mention of mushrooms in the dish. I'm allergic... Waitress didn't come back and I finally went to find her. When I told her I couldn't have mushrooms she got all bent and told me the cook was gonna blow up. I was shocked. They didn't put them on the board as an ingredient like they did on the item right above...(see picture) It gets better, the waitress said they were going to make me another omelet without mushrooms, but charge me 50% for the first omelet in addition... Hands down best restaurant in downtown Oconomowoc. There is something for everyone at every price point. Had dinner here at least 5 times over the 12 months and the food is consistently delicious. Great farm to table place and they really know how to incorporate in-season local ingredients across the menu. Scallops are yummy, risotto dishes freshly made, great appetizer selection. Not usually a Mac and cheese lover but shared and it was a table fave! I also shy away from ordering steak out when not at a steak house, not here! They didn't disappoint. A very avant-garde style restaurant downtown Oconomowoc. Very elegant very cool atmosphere. The food was good. Had the cheese curds not your average curds....Very gourmet very tasty. The wings were good ... the Ancho Cherry Barbecue was good it felt more on the sweet side. The Caribbean Jerk... they seem bland at first and saw the sauce on the bottom of the bowl. mixed it up and the ingredients were quite authentic wished they had poured it over it. Reasonably priced menu. . The waitstaff were very friendly...our server Claire was extremely good friendly welcoming and knowledgeable about all the specials and items. Recently moved to the area and excited to try this place out. With a young baby with us, we are always hesitant to go out for dining, but this place looked friendly enough. We arrived and there was a 30 minute wait, no problem sat at the bar and had a bloody. Their Bloody was good, well garnished too! One of the waitresses brought over a farm animal book to my 11 month old daughter while we were waiting, which I thought was very sweet. After 30 minutes we got seated at a table that was open the entire time, but thats not an issue.. once seated it took FOREVER for our waitress to come and offer a drink order. We tried to put in for an appetizer and she said she would take the order after the drinks came. That was frustrating, wanted to get food in my baby ASAP after waiting. Drinks took a long time to come out (only 2 drinks) and appetizer even longer. after sitting for 45 minutes we ordered food which was an experience. I ordered my meal, then asked for a biscuit on the side and a side of fruit. I was told fruit came with my meal and i explained the side was for my daughter. She said right, but you get a side of fruit and i said yes, i would like an extra. After several exchanges about the fruit i said find forget it... (i wanted to eat my own side and have an additional side for my daughter which clearly wasn't an option). I also ordered a cup of water for my daughter and she forgot to bring it twice. 30 minutes went by from the time i ordered the water, 2 reminders, to the time it was brought over. she gave it to me with a sippy cup lid and i asked for a straw (my daughter cant drink out of sippy lids yet) and she said "No there is a sippy lid on it". I explained she doesn't know how to drink out of that yet and i needed a straw for her. She said a straw wasn't needed for the cups and argued about bringing a straw.... (i ended up getting a straw). The food came out and it was good. the Blueberry bruschetta is TO DIE FOR! The eggs were cooked well, the biscuit was dry and no sides (jelly or butter) served with it. The side of fruit was 2 small pieces of water melon, two small pieces of honey dew, and 1 cut up berry.... (not enough for a serving for my child, so that extra side would have been nice). I then ordered a cocktail and was told that wasnt on the menu and i said it was thats why i ordered it. she walked away grabbed a menu and made me show her and then said "oh okay, ill put that in for you". They must not have had the ingredients for it (chocolate caramel martini) because it tasted like straight vodka and a dash of chocolate milk) The check process took forever too, luckily you can scan the code on the bottom and pay from your phone. the table next to us took over 20 min for the same waitress to grab the CC and process payment. Overall the food was high priced for what it is and the service is HORRIBLE (at lease our waitress was). i like to go out and be stress less- but her questioning EVERYTHING was supper annoying. read more

Our server was a little aloof, but seemed nice enough. The food was delicious, I would definitely recommend the steak fries. They had a decent amount of vegetarian options. What can you say about Sobie's that I haven't said already? Went here for anniversary dinner, I was amazed and pleased with our dinner. Besides our appetizer of blackened sea scallops, Tammy had the braised short ribs, and I had the double pork chops, spaetzel noodles, and fresh broccoli. Excellent service and the staff was friendly and attentive! The Pinot Noir wine we selected complemented our dinner. Great dining, great service, and great conversation made our evening. Fresh flavorful food. Menu is always changing. Burgers were meaty juicy patties. Warm bread with garlic herb butter. I'm a sucker for seafood so I tried the Scallop and Shrimp pasta and was impressed. White wine butter sauce on angel hair pasta with asparagus, tomatoes and artichokes. They also have seasonal drinks and beers. I had to try New Holland Pumpkin Ale. Dude... New Holland from Michigan needs to make that beer year round! read more

The food was excellent as always. The only reason I did not give it 5 stars is it is somewhat pricey. My wife and I had dinner, one drink each before dinner and dessert. Price including tip was $130. When Sobies first opened it was a mid-price restaurant. It migrated to premium price unless you like french fries with gravy on them. It still is the best restaurant in Oconomowoc. read more

First off, sorry I didn't take any pictures. The restaurant was beautiful and take someone who knows the history of the building with you. The food was great, the server was attentive, and we will definitely return. We were there during dinner and missed some sort of bread and butter course. Sorry we didn't make it as far as the facilities and the only other downside was, we were not offered a dessert offering. Still phenomenal food and a great spot definitely would recommend. read more

But the experience was the last chance. Other meal was average. There was a time this was a great alternative in Oconomowoc. There has been a clear shift in quality. A friend recommended Sobie's so we made a reservation. We were seated immediately. Very nice staff and surroundings. Our server was excellent. We had the Broasted Chicken.
