A great choice if you are craving Italian food with a nice ambiance. As mentioned by other reviewers, it can get crowded and reservations are definitely a better idea then chancing a walk-in. All of the servers that we have ever had here have been really, really nice as well as well informed as to the menu. The lasagna here is PHENOMENAL!! My wife and I usually order different dishes so that we can try new things, but here we always both order the lasagna. A typical night for us looks like an order of the bruschetta as an app, two lasagna entrees...and maybe a few vodka sodas and captain and diets to wash things down :) I have also tried the pizza a few times, and it is good...but the heart in my stomach is in love with the lasagna. read more

We tried a cranberry and apple salad with scallops. The scallops were the best part. Been passing by this place for years and finally got to try it out! We went on a Friday evening and got seated right away for a table for four and a baby. We did call head to make sure there was availability. I got the fall harvest bowl with blackened chicken and that was very tasty. My partner actually said they preferred it over their fish fry. I enjoyed their fish fry! It had a thin batter over the fish and was seasoned well. We also shared a pepperoni pizza. I wasn't too crazy about it, I think the provolone cheese didn't fit it well. We eat here only a few times a year- never had a bad experience. Went yesterday for an early dinner. I had ordered the dry-rubbed wings ap and my guest ordered a burger - cooked medium. The burger was overcooked - well done - and had no flavor. No salt. No pepper. She wouldn't send it back. The truffle fries with it were great Which is why this review is 2 stars instead of 1. My wings were worse than the burger. Flavorless. Our waitress was not personable at all. We observed two other waitresses who appeared to be great- totally interacting with their tables, etc. We are 20-30% tippers. We left 8%. We are not ready to rule TF out yet- we have yet to order their pizzas which do look dynamite. We are committed to give it one more try on pizza run. The establishment has plenty of indoor and outdoor seating! We sat outside as it was lovely weather. We had a good server, he was very nice and told us the special with ease as well as refilled our waters often. Personally the food was a miss for me. I have a hard time loving pizza but I felt over all both things we got lacked flavor. The garlic bread didn't have a wisp of garlic with it. I was longing to taste something. I couldn't tell if I liked or didn't like the marinara sauce, but I'm glad it came with our food without an additional up charge ! The prices were a little high in my opinion for what you are getting, but I'm not from here so that might be the going price. Still a big fan. I'm just coming here to update that we came in with a larger group and were so pleased that everything good we know about Twisted Fire held. The waitstaff were so kind and patient with us as our group took a long time to order, and our server made great recommendations and played well with our more boisterous group members. Came here on a whim on New Year's Day and it did not disappoint! They seemed busy and potentially understaffed, but we were very well taken care of. The food was all excellent!! Twisted Fire is one of our favorite restaurants in Downtown Oconomowoc! We have been here a number of times over the year and we are never disappointed! The atmosphere is comfortable and relaxed whether you choose to sit inside, at the bar, at the chef's table, or outside on the patio. The service is the only thing I can say they could improve on. The wait staff is is not incredibly attentive. We ran out of water and drinks multiple times. At the end of our meal, we had to chase someone down to pay the bill! This time we were there for my son's 12th birthday and they offered him a free dessert. This wasn't your average, one scoop of ice cream free dessert, he was able to pick anything off of the menu. The food...for apps we ordered breadsticks, cheese curbs, and truffle fries. All pretty simple apps and they were delicious. The breading on the cheese curds was a little heavy - I probably would not order those again. I had the steak and mushroom risotto which was to die for. I love risotto and have found that it cane often times be disappointing, but Twisted Fire got it right! Super attentive staff, mostly very friendly. Our server hustled all evening. The manager came and checked on us. Very loud rooms and a little crowded, but it seems to be a popular place. We ordered a pizza which had excellent quality ingredients and was perfectly cooked. Fries were good but unremarkable. Alfredo spinach mushroom pasta was very good; the Alfredo sauce was thin but flavorful. Finally, one of us had seafood pasta. It was ok. There were large shrimp, 2 scallops and crab throughout. The homemade spaghetti was good, not great. The sauce was pretty bland. I was surprised by the cilantro garnish, but at least it added some flavor. The dish needed a good dash of red pepper or more garlic or something to make it a little less bland. Next time we will try the house burger, as it looked amazing. read more

This was probably the worst $60 I've ever spend at a restaurant. I ordered the truffle fries, the caprese chicken pasta and lasagna. Let me tell you the fries were absolutely disgusting, soggy cold and the cheese had all accumulated together. Nothing made it any different than some fries with Parmesan on it. The chicken pasta was also terrible. The pasta was dense and heavy spirals. The chicken was literally just a chicken breast no seasoning just white and boiled. Only thing that was decent was the lasagna. If I would have gotten two of those this review would have been better. We were completely blown away by Twisted Fire! We lived downtown Milwaukee for many years and still tend to go down there frequently as our choices for non-chain restaurants are not huge until recently. There are several new restaurants that have opened in the western suburbs that are widening our dining options. The interior is modern with an industrial feel. Love the open kitchen and the option of kitchen side dining. They have a wood fired oven that turns out wood fired pizzas and many delicious appetizers and main dishes. The hubs was impressed with the beer list and the drink menu is equally as impressive with unique takes on classic cocktails. Great happy hour specials as well on drinks and appetizers. Food: nice mixture of Wood-Fired pizzas, main dishes and seasonal specials. All the dishes we ordered were so good and well executed. The only thing I would change is the timing of the food. It took awhile to get our appetizer and salad. Then a couple of bites in, our main dishes arrived. Twisted fire is definitely worth the drive to check out if you don't live in the area. read more

To look at the outside of this restaurant, you'd think you were going into one of those Greek-American restaurants that serve everything from burgers to chop suey to spaghetti, because the building style fits the generic mold of each and every one of those types of restaurants. Do not judge a restaurant by it's building, however, and certainly not this restaurant. Inside is a very modern industrial-ish dining room, with high top seating bordering the kitchen so you can watch the chefs prepare each tantalizing looking dish. We chose a booth for intimate seating, and there are regular dining tables as well. The interior is warm and welcoming, and home to several pieces of art done by local artists, and each is for sale at very reasonable prices. The menu is small plates and entrees. Our friend chose the scallops, which came with butternut squash risotto and asparagus spears. It looked delicious and she said it was, but honestly, I'm glad I didn't order it, because there were only 4 scallops. My husband had the walleye fish fry, which came with truffle fries. Both were good (I sampled), and the walleye was a larger fillet than either of us expected. I had a really hard time deciding what to pick, so I went with my first instinct, which was small plates. I opted for the souvlaki (seasoned pork skewers with pita wedges, olives, and tzatziki), stuffed mushrooms (filled with artichoke, spinach, Manchego and bread crumbs), and the sriracha honey carrots (sweet and spicy, and three colors). The souvlaki was served on a plate, while the mushrooms and carrots were served in small cast iron skillets. The presentation was very nice, and all were delicious and filling. I prefer my carrots a little more cooked, but I can overlook that, because the natural sweetness of the veggies combining with the honey to perfectly balance the spiciness of the sriracha was spot on. The mushrooms had a savory quality to them and if I had more room, I would have ordered more. The pork souvlaki was nice and tender, not at all dried out, and was seasoned to perfection. I would 100% order each of these again. For dessert, we shared the S'mores Pot de Creme: chocolate mousse infused with orange liqueur, and toasted marshmallow fluff on top; the perfect end to such a delicious meal. The reason for the 4 stars, and not 5, was for the drinks (I would actually give 4.5, if I could). I ordered the Inferno's Lovechild. It has a big ole flame next to it on the menu, and one of the ingredients is jalapeno, so I assumed a jalapeno liquor of some sort. I was expecting heat, but got none. The drink was flavorful, yes, but it was lacking the heat that I thought the flame implied. I hope the person in charge of the drinks will tinker with the recipe a little bit to make it what it could be. My suggestion? Rim the glass with chili powder or something similar. Who would have thought that a nice place like this would be out in Oconomowoc? Color me surprised, and a fan! The menu is interesting which drew us to this restaurant. I understand an industrial vibe but the lighting was crazy bright. Atmosphere because of that wasn't great. Ordered the burrata salad as an appetizer which was excellent. Presentation was great. Enjoyed a craft cocktail which was very good and also a glass of wine. Nice pour in a nice wine glass. One of us ordered pizza and I had the tenderloin and mushroom risotto. I understand the wood fired oven scenario, but the burning wood taste on both dishes was overwhelming and a total turn off. Arrived and found the place rather empty compared to about 6 months ago. 1) Server gave the couple that we were dining with the specials (but not us) as we arrived 5 minutes after them. 2) Ordered a $45 zin and was delivered a $25 Zin ($45 was on the charges) 3) Our friends also ordered a bottle of wine and both their bottle and ours were not presented to us to confirm our choice (thus them delivering the $25 zin); they opened the bottles somewhere else (bad) - and the corks were not delivered either so we could not bring the unfinished wine home. 4) the server almost dumped the dishes on our table because she was trying pick up dishes back handed 5) Sausage pizza was not as good as previously - not sure if the sausage changed, or the sauce. Definitely less red sauce. It used be home made uncured sausage (not sure anymore) 6) crab cakes were miniature (2 delivered - about the size of a 1/2 dollar - maybe smaller). Not very good - FISHY. 7) the water glasses smelled like worms 8) the wine glasses smelled like soap. 9) because we had to finish our wines (not corks) - we were there until about 9:15pm and but at 9:05pm they started slamming chairs on top of tables. This spot is a solid place to visit that isn't very well known. I've been here twice and have not been disappointed! From making a reservation, to walking in at random, this place is legit! Each time, I was sat down immediately. I came here with little kids and there is something for everyone! My 7 year old loves the steak and fries. OMG!!! If I could've given them 6 stars I would've. We started with burrata and heirloom tomato salad but it had a jalapeno jam that was a great twist and perfectly prepared and plated with a cold corn soup that was the best soup I've ever had! I had bass with a fava bean compliment but there was also a fava bean puree which reminded me of an edamame puree form Sushi Sho in Waikiki, a $300/person restaurant and small diced chorizo also excellent and finished with an unusual mushroom I don't remember the name of but excellent too. My Gf had a Ceasar salad with shrimp, different and also excellent. We had to have 2 deserts after dinner a banana something and a strawberry shortcake with homemade strawberry ice cream and pickled strawberries very unusual and both to die for!!! The food, thanks to the newly appointed or should I say anointed chef Juan, was extremely creative, sophisticated with great combinations that went really well together and a shout out to our excellent server Lindsay who was perfect the entire night and the fun and jovial Maitre d'! What a gem for Oconomowoc! They definitely need our support during this crazy time in the world so GO THERE ASAP!!! We went back last night for round 2 and were equally impressed.
