We popped in on a whim on a recent Friday afternoon and were delighted to be seated on the patio. Our server so friendly and chatty! We only came for drinks and apps, but enjoyed everything. I had some kind of Mexican lager on tap that had a lime taste to it... so refreshing. My mom's paloma, which I had to try, as also tasty. For the apps we got the (recommended) groupers strips, and the crab cakes. I'd order both again for sure. Fresh tasting fish indeed. Incredible seafood. I got the grouper and the crab sauce on top was so great. Their cocktail selection is also very nice and well crafted to solidify a well rounded dining experience. We really enjoyed the view from the porch area. Service was friendly and prompt. The inside was a bit loud for us so we preferred the outdoor dining experience while they were busy. Fun and lovely atmosphere, New Orleans decor, went on a Sunday for brunch/lunch. There was plenty of seating, service was great, and a huge menu selection and variety to choose from. My friend and I split the fish tacos and breakfast burrito (meat on the side), and waiter was accommodating. The portion sizes are good for the price! We came in just before kitchen close (9pm) and were seated right away. Unfortunately, it look about 10 minutes to get service. While slightly annoying, we were mostly just concerned that the kitchen was going to close on us. Luckily, it didn't, and when we did flag a server down she was super friendly and apologetic and the service was very attentive from there forward. They even comped us a desert for the wait! Over all the meal was delicious. My wife loves the blackened snapper and I tried the po boy this time. Fish Bones is one of our favorite restaurants. From Friday night fish fry to Sunday brunch, their food and service never disappoints. The atmosphere is great. Crazy that the last time I reviewed this place I wasn't allergic to shrimp. Fishbones has really established itself as a Lake Country staple over the years, and not much has changed. I loved it 14 years ago and I love it today. Their sister restaurant, Zin, caters to a more boring crowd, lacking a bit in the personality department. Not so at Fishbones. First of all, haaaaave you met Megan? Don't be fooled by the casual atmosphere of the Mardi Gras-themed bar and occasionally irritatingly-loud Louisiana jazz music pumping through the speakers, the drinks do not slouch here. There is a hidden gem behind the unassuming bar, and her name is Megan, a bartender with some serious chops. On the busiest of nights, everyone is taken care of, and met with a great attitude and personality; but her efficiency doesn't compromise quality, and the cocktails and martinis Megan is slinging are fire! I've ordered at least a dozen Key Lime Pie martinis in the great state of Florida, but far and away the best iteration of this beachworthy cocktail is right here in sleepy Delafield, Wisconsin, donning a graham crumble rim, whipped cream-topped lime wedge, and a perfectly tart sipper in a chilled glass. Perfection. The menu is big enough that pretty much anyone can find something they'll like, even if a few items are lackluster. Wife loves the grilled shrimp tostadas, I love the blackened snapper, and their red beans and rice are the best bang for your buck by far. Don't forget to ask for their house-made hot sauces, they are fantastic. Honey sriracha salmon has potential, but feels like an afterthought for the health-conscious that could be vastly improved with a couple of tweaks. Incorporate some wasabi, maybe a yuzu or mango drizzle, throw some wonton strips on top and you've got another banger on the menu, but the current preparation is pretty bland. Nightly specials are pretty awesome, with some great deals throughout the week. I suspect that is what keeps this place packed most nights, along with being rather singular in their menu offerings. The closest southern restaurant outside of Fishbones is Maxie's in Milwaukee, and let's be real, Maxie's sucks. If half stars were a thing, 'Bones would be a solid 4.5, but a little more creativity in the menu would kick it up to a cool 5. read more

First of all, great food. The ambiance is more of a bar with some tables, than a true restaurant. The scenery in front of the location would have been fantastic if there were light outside but I could imagine. We came here for a birthday dinner and was not disappointed. Fishbone's has the quintessential Wisconsin supper club "vibe" with an upscale "cool" factor imbued by the understated yet attentive service. Sitting at the bar is a treat! Their gin and tonics are the best I've had, and at a fair price. Fishbone's bartenders know how to mix a drink. The service is not rushed. A pet peeve is feeling like the waiters are rushing you to finish to get the next party seated, but I do not ever have this experience at Fishbones - not even on fish fry Fridays! The fish fry is well seasoned, perfectly cooked and not greasy at all. And it arrives hot. The portion size is a bit small, but the staff is accommodating if you want to add more. The food is high quality, well cooked and presented well. It's obvious there is a real chef behind the operation. The last time we dined, I ordered the Potato Encrusted Corvina with Roasted Delicata squash, tri color carrots and rosemary herb beurre blanc. It's one of the best dishes I've had in a long while. Their gumbo is also top notch - just enough spice to warm you but not overpower the dish. I highly recommend this gem! read more

Nice patio, my wife had blackened whitefish with dirty rice, I had the fish fry, both were good but the coleslaw was too spicy and the tartar sauce wasn't good (maybe a little pickle relish would make it better) service was ok. Second time my wife had the burger and I had red beans and rice which I really liked, but it needed some bread with it to soak up the sauce, reasonably priced and good portions. read more

I tried Fishbone's and sat outside on their back deck. Easy to get a table outside since we went early. Service was great and our waiter was very helpful. I started with a pineapple margarita which wasn't too sweet which I enjoyed. We ordered a bbq shrimp with grit cake special which was ok. Great size to share but wasn't our favorite. I got the ragin' Cajun pasta which had a ton of shrimp, sausage and chicken, but it was a very heavy meal. We ended with key lime pie which was great! read more

My first time here; came with my daughter. We both had a great time and liked it a lot. I ordered the blackened snapper. It was very good, though it did not seem blackened or particularly cajun-ny to me. I guess that's the way it is here but I was surprised because Ive had blackened fish before and this was not prepared that way. Regardless, She and I enjoyed our meal a lot. I used to really love Fishbones. We used to make it the place for family celebrations like birthdays and anniversaries. But it's been a few years since we've been there and after the meal tonight I don't think I'll be going back. Most of the food was just bland bland bland. The Crispy Korean Shrimp tasted more like a basic chili shrimp you can get anywhere with rice drowning in soy sauce. Hardly any taste of gochujang and a missed opportunity to use a bulgogi type marinade reduced down as the sauce for more depth of flavor than just salt with soy sauce. My wife had the blackened ribeye which was bland, hardly any flavor which is hard to do with blackening seasoning. The garlic mashed didn't taste like any garlic at all. The brussel sprouts were just dry. What used to be big bold flavors that my family loved has become no better than what I expect from a food court serving bourbon chicken. The waitress was great which is why I'm giving two stars! Im so disappointed since I have about 50 people coming for weekend this August and I was planning on recommending Fishbones for them to eat. I see this has been rated as a 4.1 which is totally crazy... way too low. The food was fantastic as we ate at the bar which overlooked the lake. The brandy old fashion we had was muddled and perfect. Had the small bowl of gumbo to start things off which easily could have been a meal for just $7. We then ordered the Ragin' Cajun Pasta which had so much flavor, with huge shrimp, chicken and sausage that couldn't put the fork down. It was served with a spaghetti but offered to have with rigatoni as well which looked amazing. Two people and our bill was $72. What an absolute value. When back in the area, will definitely be back. A nice restaurant when looking for something different. There are not many seafood options in the area especially when it comes to Cajun dishes. Based on many other Yelp reviews we had to order the gumbo and it was a great way to start our dinner. Our waitress was fantastic and very attentive with food and specialty drinks from the bar. Had the Rajun Cajun pasta for dinner which was very good but lacking in rajun, especially after tasting the gumbo. Will certainly be back to try some other selections on the menu. read more

Absolutely loved this place! Right on the lake, fabulous food and drink with a view! Maybe it was the perfectly gorgeous weather, too, but it may just have been our wonderful waitperson Megan, who was super friendly and accommodating. Their menu is crazy - I wanted *everything* on it, and really had a hard time deciding. I love cajun food, and after spending several years in Texas--right next to Louisiana--I knew it would be hard to find some of the amazing food I'd become accustom to. Lo and behold, here in Wisconsin, one of the best cajun places around, right in lil ol' Delafield--who knew?! I had the seafood pasta, which was delicious, but hope to get back again soon to try some of their other fare (did I mention I had a hard time deciding?). Also had a scrumptious tall green drink (that I can't recall the name of--Swamp Monster?) that had quite a kick, just the way it should be! The only drawback that I really noticed was the parking. I dined at Fishbones on a Friday night. I had requested a reservation via their online form submission earlier in the day - and I'm glad I did, they were VERY busy. We got there around 6:30 and they were able to accommodate our request to sit outside. The four of us got a great table overlooking the lake, and the server was very energetic and friendly while greeting us and taking our orders. I started with the margarita drink special, a cucumber cilantro margarita. I didn't love it, mostly due to a little bit uninspiring-tasting margarita mix. The second drink I ordered, the red sangria, ended up being significantly better. I should have started with that! I'll note that the drinks took a really long time because the bar was slammed (the drinks arrived as we were midway through our appetizers). I'll give the benefit of the doubt that this was more circumstantial than a reflection of the service. For appetizers, we had the crawfish dip and the seared tuna. I'm not a raw tuna fan; that was more for the others at the table. The dip, though, was quite good and full of chunks of meat and stringy cheese. I would gladly order that again. For dinner, I ordered the jambalaya and I was blown away. The flavor was amazing and it was loaded with the five types of meats it comes with. It also came with a generous chunk of bread, which was super soft and perfect to soak up the flavorful broth. Even though mine was a 10/10, I still didn't manage to order the best entree at the table! That award is reserved for the two veterans, my parents, who both ordered the Ragin Cagun Pasta. Talk about a full, but flavor-packed, meal! That Cajun cream sauce is magical. If you coming in with a big appetite and don't mind something heavier, I would recommend this. If you want something not quite as heavy, opt for the jambalaya. You can't go wrong with either, and I'm sure everything else on the menu is great. I had a hard time deciding what to order because there were a lot of great options. We will definitely be back when we are in the area! read more

We've always enjoyed Fishbones, their food and service is normally impeccable. Tonight was a different story. We did the date night special which is 3 courses. The drinks and 1st course were slow but not off to an awful start. We waited 35 - 40 minutes between the starter and the main entree. A table seated after us, which also did the date night special had their desert finished before we had our main course. My food was delicious and hot but my husband's was basically cold. Our server as well as another one who stopped to ask if we had been helped (after the 1st course) knew that we were very unhappy. There were weak apologies but not even an offer for a free drink or some $$ off the bill. Where is the 1st class service. Nowhere in evidence tonight. So sad. read more

My waiter was Ricky. He was super friendly and quick to serve. A+ service! I got the 1/2lb of crawfish. The Crawfishwas already pealed and cocktail sauce did not have enough horseradish so it tasted more like ketchup but the crawfish tail were sautéed to perfection, so honestly didn't even need the cocktail sauce. Buttery, herby, delicious. The jambalaya ya-ya was to die for. From the first bite it feels like the flavors are dancing in your mouth. They serve this dish with a giant piece of bread and with reason, the sauce from the jambalaya, you'd drink it straight from the bowl, if you didn't have bread to dip it in. It's that good!
