I have been sleeping on this review because I wanted to go back a second time. My first trip was in November 2023 and my second time was last night. The place is veteran owned and has a military flare to the decor. For our area, this is welcome and we have nothing like it. They also frequently have live music, and I do love me some live music. The service has been great both time I was there. I sat at the bar the first time and a table the second...just to make sure the service was great in both locations! Of course bar service is always faster because you are right in front of them, but I will say I did not have to wait at any point to sit, order, or pay. They were friendly and genuinely wanted to make sure everything tasted as good as it looked. When I go to places that run specials I am voted less likely to order off the menu and I have stuck with that philosophy with SteelTank. The first time I had a steak and shrimp pasta. It was so good I could not stop eating it. I ate nearly all of it and had zero regrets, but I was happy I had a few bites left to enjoy the next day. Second stop, Sausage & Pepperoni stuffed Bavarian pretzel. This pizza of the week is delicious! The pretzel is cut in half and stuffed and not hollowed out as most places do. You can see from the pictures it is stuffed and you can taste the pizza. Greens with a pizza you say? YES! So good, the vinaigrette dressing that is on that pretty little salad is making my mouth water as I type! Specials were not mentioned either time I went. The specials are posted on Facebook and that is how I knew about SteelTank and what I should order. That would be my only complaint, when you receive a menu patrons should be told what the specials are - or - post it somewhere so people know. read more

I would not recommend this place. We were seated quickly but it took 10 minutes before we even got asked out drink order, and another 30 minutes before we were asked about food. We waited so long I was able to write this review. There seems to be plenty of staff but slow and unorganized. Our waiter had people coming up to order because he didn't stop by the tables. We watched as he went and helped out behind the bar, poured most of his own drinks, and split huge checks. A lot of these things should've been handled by other staff and help from others. We could see him walking around and dealing with other people, but wouldn't stop by to reassure us and let us know wait times. We waved him down multiple times, other tables were getting served before our section. The distribution of staff was poor. We didn't even end up getting our food, and cancelling our order after an HOUR AND A HALF! We asked what the eta was on the food, and no definite answer, just "awhile". Other people were cancelling their orders and everyone looked disappointed. I have never been so disappointed in service. read more

This place is awesome. The service is incredible and so is the beer. My favorite so far after quite a few is the blood orange fruit beer. Incredible nose on this beer with a moderate ABV coming in at 5.3. Their hazy Steel rain is also fantastic. Look forward to coming back read more

We tried several of their beers at a local festival and enjoyed every one of them. Today we were in area and stopped for lunch. Cool decor, large parking lot. It was very cold in the dining room. Our waitress was friendly, not horribly attentive though. I ordered the M.O.A.D. and my husband ordered the Gizmo. There's A LOT of food here! The M.O.A.D. was too messy to eat as a sandwich. The marble rye didn't stand up to the many toppings on the sandwich. I had to use a fork and knife. Both sandwiches had too many toppings. The onion rings and fried green beans were overly salty. First time here today, and everything was good. A couple of the beers in my flight were a little bleh, but the one I decided on for a full pour, the GI Joe Oatmeal Coffee Stout, was perfect for a late October Wisconsin day. The bartender was friendly but very busy due to a large group that had come in. I thought the stealth bombers (I think that's what they were, at least) on the ceiling were a cool touch. We had The Howitzer starter, M-4 Sherman Tank and the Oktoberfest special (Schintzel & Spaetzel). The Schnitzel was huge and delicious. The Oktoberfest beer was great also. I thought the Tanks were loaded fries at first, but they're basically really good stacked Bratwurst dinners. I totally recommended this place to friends back in Tomah. Best German food I've had in a while. Being a Wisconsin Vet, it feels like home. We were Harvest Host customers. I'm so glad this place was on our route to the East Coast. read more

We walked in and noticed it was a little chilly in the restaurant. We did not let it stop us and we are so glad it didn't! We found out there was a little problem with the heating but it will be fixed ASAP. We both started with a beer and both were good. Earlier over the weekend we had stopped at 2 other breweries and these beers were the best! I had a pulled pork sandwich which was tasty and the perfect size. I tried all of the sauces and most were better than any I've ever had elsewhere. My boyfriend had a sausage sandwich which he also thought was excellent. The staff was friendly! The decor was simple and clean. Maybe they could use a little more on the decor side of things. There are plenty of TV's for watching sports. Well rounded variety of craft beers and delicious barbecue! The staff was great and the place is clean! Steel Tank Brewing is a Veteran owned business with a slight military theme. Beer flights are served in ammo boxes I didn't always enjoy IPA'S but I do now, and they have 2 or 3, but they also have the malty, lager, ale, and other styles to please most palates. I tried many! Not all of them, but nine total. I liked them all, except for their coffee stout, it was in my friends flight and she wasn't a fan either. The food was delicious. Me and the Mrs shared a brisket and chicken dinner that came with two sides and corned bread. We picked cheesey potatoes and Coleslaw. I like their version of Coleslaw, it was thicker and I think it might have had apples in it? If you like brisket you should try theirs, it was one of the best I've had, seriously! The only pic I have is after I dug into it, sorry! It was moist and flavorful with a nice bark. Our server even asked if we preferred lean or fatty. I said it's all good, lol. It wasn't fatty except for the charred bark. Our friend and her son had ribs with beans and mac and cheese. The ribs come out "wet" but if you prefer without sauce let them know. Speaking of sauce, they have at least 5 sauces i think, maybe more, I don't use sauce, but I tried them and they were good. We all enjoyed our food. Tried their brisket sandwich and it was great. My husband is a huge fan of Texan brisket and Mission BBQ and he agreed on this being excellent. He just found his favorite brisket spot in Wisconsin. I heard their chicken wings are fantastic (my party suggested the place with that menu item in mind) so we'll have to go back for that. Came here in the past and had the brunch and it was great so took my fiance and our son who's in the military sad to hear they no longer do brunch so we ordered off menu. Got our first round of drinks and then our food my fiance ordered the garden salad. It looked good but when mixed the greens were completely water soaked and soggy. They never asked if wanted another beer or drink. When we asked for bill son showed military ID for discount however when bill came nothing was applied. Had to go up to bar to find our server and get it corrected. Everyone I encountered was cordial and professional and either active duty guard or a veteran. I would expect a place like this would be the packed all the time but it wasn't even when there was live entertainment. I went twice in my four days in oconomowoc. First to walk in the door and we waited 45 mins for half of our tables food. 20 minutes later the rest arrived. Looks like the menu may have changed based on previous posts, but the food was still delicious. We had the poutine fries and a couple of tanks (bratwurst with toppings). Everything was great! Beers were consistently good, and nothing was super hoppy though we skipped the IPAs since they're not our favorite. We'll definitely come back when we're in the area. read more

Just ate at Steel Tank Brewing and it was amazing. Tuesday night was seafood boil night. This was as good of a boil that I have had outside of Louisiana. Their beers were solid as well. Excellent addition to the area! I went here last night with my family and everyone had a great time. The space is huge and welcoming. The service was extremely friendly and the food was delicious! I love bbq sauce and they had a huge selection to choose from. The smoky hot was my favorite followed by the Carolina good. The beers were great too! Went for a charity event grabbed a beer which was good, wanted to order a big pretzel on the outside patio. Took a while to flag down a server she told us to grab a seat and she would send someone out. After 10 minutes the same server came out to adjust the tv for the packer game I grabbed her again and ordered the big pretzel. She came back quickly and told me they were out would we be ok with smaller pretzel rounds I agreed. Within 2 minutes she was back and said they were only serving burgers and pizza. We declined and moved off the patio. 30 minutes later I walked through the restaurant to use the rest room and saw 2 tables with big pretzels. I will never go there again. read more

It's hard if not impossible to immediately catch SteelTank's military theme and evidence of being veteran owned and founded. The establishment itself appears impeccably clean and well organized as you'd expect from someone who learned the lessons of military life. I would suspect the same attention is given to sanitation when brewing. I visited SteelTank on 5/06/22. I visit craft breweries as a hobby (or by direction of my wife to leave the house). They could be accurately described as brewpub since they had an adequate food menu and the kitchen looked busy. They also had wine on hand in the coolers up front to accommodate non-beer drinking patrons. I guess they exist but why would you enter a brewery otherwise? I sat at the main bar and was greeted quickly by two separate bartenders who were friendly and cared for me efficiently. My servers were friendly and talkative. I ordered a flight of 4 for $10 & tried the Weiss, Mexican Lager, Oktoberfest & Vienna Lager. All had good body and their flavor profiles matched what I expected. I did note that the Mexican Lager tasted a bit lighter on my tongue. Most notably was that my server provided me a small lime for the Mexican Lager & a lemon slice for the Weiss. I don't remember any craft brewery provide this detailed presentation of their beer and attention to the expectation most patrons would have with these accompaniments. There appeared to me to be a good attention to service that I don't see at every brewery. I would return regularly if I lived nearby. read more
