This was our first time at Red Circle Inn and it was awesome !!! It all started and ended with our wonderful server, Austin. He is one of the best we have ever had. He was very pleasant, knowledgeable and great with his attention to us. Great recommendations for drinks and wine. He paced our meal very well. The Shrimp appetizer "Special" was very good along with their house made Sauce and the French Onion soup was great, with plenty of onions and a wonderful broth.For our meals I had the "Overnight" Prime rib and it was delicious as was my wife's Salmon. The kitchen was great in their presentation and flavors. They even "split" my Cesar salad w/o being asked to, as we had told Austin we were probably going to share it.. To top off our meal we had their Schaum torte and it was the best we ever had. The meringue was perfectly done and not too hard, just practically melt in your mouth... The whole staff paid attention to the tables and dirty dishes did not stay on the table very long. First time here except for a fundraiser last year. We wanted to find out which of the previous reviews was true. A Tuesday night with a 6:00pm reservation, we were greeted by a smiling young lady who made sure our visit started off right; coats stored, did we want a drink in the bar first, would we like a wine menu? All great questions. We were seated at a small table for two, which at first look seemed uncomfortable, but it was just fine. We had Old Fashioneds and were given a relish platter, which was mostly olives and a few small crackers with a spread, all very supper club traditional. We then ordered the Exotic Mushrooms, where the crispy ciabatta toast was a nice combination for this unusual appetizer. It was a big order, so we actually took some home. The House Signature Overnight Prime Rib was our choice with mashed potatoes and horseradish sauce on the side. These were done to perfection (medium rare) and a good size. My only changes would be a little less au jus with the Prime Rib. It was swimming on the plate and looked a bit overwhelming. Our server was Christine M., and to say she made our meal wonderful from start to finish is an understatement. She obviously enjoys her job and knows how to make everyone feel welcome, which goes a long way towards a great meal. As we asked questions, she gently directed us to the best options, and her knowledge and attention to detail made our choices easy. Red Circle Inn did well when they hired her. As a surprise treat, I got a birthday ice cream sundae, which was delicious! Rich ice cream with just the right amount of whipped cream, chocolate, and sprinkles on top. Thank you for this treat! Brought friends and enjoyed our excellent cocktails. We split a tasty crab cake as a starter. Two had the beef stroganoff, which they both enjoyed. One had the rib eye and hash browns which he said was excellent. I had the sautéed shrimp with asparagus and mashed potatoes, which was also very good. We all split an extra serving of asparagus. I was here for a corporate event. The venue was beautiful, and the wait staff were friendly and helpful. We had a prefix menu and were able to choose from a beef, pork, or fish option. The beef was a filet which is what I went with. It came with a side of green beans and mashed potatoes. The green beans were fresh and cooked to perfection. They tasted steamed which allowed the natural flavor to shine through while keeping their crunch. The mashed potatoes were dense and a little dryer that my personal preference. I would have liked to have seen them a bit creamier with some butter folded in. But, I will say that they tasted fresh. Then the steak. Because it was an event, the steak was only prepared one way - which was boarder line medium well. There was no crust at all and the whole thing was lacking. As a rare girlie, I was very disappointed in it. For the price that I saw on their menu online, had I received this steak in the restaurant I would have been extremely disappointed. As an employee whose meal was covered on the company dime... Eh, it was what it was. I gave it 3 stars based on my own experience where I felt there were good and negative things to say. I started hearing about this place a year ago. I learned there was an ownership change, a management change, and a chef change. I did not know this was the oldest supper club in Wisconsin, dating back to 1848! How have I not been before? Anyway, I was going for a walk with my gf, and we were talking about dinner ideas. Then I remembered seeing a lot in social media about Red Circle Inn, so I called and found out the bar seating was first-come-first-served, so we went straight there. Attire is casual, and the space is beautiful! Lots of great classic photos, pieces of history, with some signs of updates. We started with cocktails and apps: Sprecher Root Beer pork belly and classic supper club dishes Shrimp DeJonghe & French Onion Soup. All were delicious, but the French Onion Soup really stood out to me because the broth had so much flavor, and it was loaded with onions and a thick layer of cheese! My gf ordered the entree special, a bone-in glazed veal chop over mushroom risotto, and I ordered a 12oz cut of prime rib because supper club. Her risotto was cooked to the right consistency and her veal chop was tender and delicious (of course I tried her dish!). My prime rib was perfect! It had great seasoning on its own, and the jus served with it took it to another level. I think it was the best prime rib I've ever had, definitely my current one that I'll compare others to. It would have been smart to leave really full at this point, but we decided we couldn't pass on the Rhumchata bread pudding, and why not add tje dessert special Citrus Panna Cotta with fresh berries. Wow! Yes, we took home leftovers, and yes, we had to be rolled out, but it was worth it. This was a little bit if a drive for us , but saw them on an internet blog so want to try them out. Was not disappointed, lots on history as well as old time ambiance's through out the facility. We were seated in the , I believe to be the " Lincoln Room " , felt very historical and so,etching unique. Our waitress gave us a short history of the facility and this room we dined in. Celebrated my 22 Anniversary with my wife and mother in law and the food was amazing again. The filet was cooked to the correct temperature and I had MASHED potatoes, not the smashed potatoes where the kitchen help is to lazy to peal the potatoes, in my opinion it makes ALL the difference. I also had a Caesar salad and I had garlic shrimp to make my dinner a surf and turf which was a little bit of a disappointment because the shrimp were overcooked. For dessert I had a deconstructed lemon meringue pie which was superb. The lemon was nice and sour but the sweetness of the meringue balances it out. I would absolutely order the same meal again but with the lobster tail instead of shrimp. read more

The drinks were great and the bartender was fun to chat with before we were sat! What an outstanding experience once again! My wife and I got engaged at the Red Circle Inn 27 years ago, and we decided to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary there for yet another return visit (we've dined there many times over the years). This time was one of our best visits ever. Nikki was a phenomenal server. She was extremely attentive, friendly, and helpful. Nikki made us feel like we were her only diners that evening, and she went above and beyond to make our evening wonderfully memorable. In addition, the food was sublime! I had the pheasant and my wife enjoyed the scallops. They were both two of the best dishes we've ever had there, in a long line of great meals across the years for us. We already love the Red Circle Inn, and it will always be special to us. This experience was truly one of our best. We recently visited Red Circle Inn for the second time, and the first after their makeover and menu redesign. We were celebrating my son and his girlfriend graduating from high school. Right off the bat we were a bit disappointed as my sons only request for the dinner was someplace that had beef Wellington. We looked online and Red Circle seemed to have it on their online menu, but apparently they only serve it on Sundays. My daughter decided to have the walleye which she really enjoyed. The rest of us had various iterations of the roast beef or fillet. All of the meat was well cooked and delicious and none of us left an empty plate. I will say that the buttery mashed potatoes tasted like they came out of a box and had very little flavor. However, the brussels sprouts and bacon side was a huge hit and absolutely delicious. Our waitress was incredibly attentive and made sure that our graduating seniors felt special and brought celebratory ice cream for them as well as champagne for their mom and I. I will say there was one element of the experience that I found irksome: they don't have a bourbon menu, so our waitress recommended that I just go take a look in the bar and pick one that I wanted to try. They have the usual suspects that you might find in most Wisconsin restaurants, and they had a selection that I generally enjoy, Ezra books 7 year barrel aged bourbon. This is an inexpensive bourbon that costs $40 in a local liquor store. So I was very surprised to see that I was charged $26 for a shot, as well as a five dollar fee for requesting a large ice cube. $31 for a non-allocated lower tier. Bourbon seems like a pretty big overreach. I have eaten in some of the premier steakhouses in New York, Chicago, Las Vegas, etc. And I have never been up-charged for a large ice cube before. I know restaurants are getting creative with finding new ways to generate revenue, but this seemed to be a bit of a gouge in my honest opinion. It won't stop us from coming back and we have plans to enjoy their new deck on the second floor, but I certainly won't be ordering bourbon or cocktails in the future! Overall, we had a very nice night with good food, a great waitress, and a fun celebration for our kids. read more

Unfortunately, it's a no for me. We tried a variety of their steaks, sides, and dessert. The food was mediocre at best. When the food came out, it was barely room temperature (steak and sides) and my ribeye, ordered medium, was tough and all I could taste was char. They got my husband's order wrong and by the time they brought it out, we had already eaten our meals. We ordered an appetizer that never came and we had to ask about our drink orders multiple times before they were served. Overall it's overpriced and I would not recommend. read more

Red Circle Inn...you have long been on my list after living in the area for 17 years I had never stopped but did tonight on a whim and I wasn't impressed. Maybe I built it up too much, maybe I ready too many reviews, or maybe my expectation for a $125 meal is too high. Let's start with the service. Wow! Our waitress was so kind. We found ourselves waiting...to order, to be checked on, for a check, but she was kind and doing her best. I would go back simply to support the wait staff. The building is historic and you can tell. I enjoy this kind of atmosphere. There is something to be said for places that stay afloat for this long. There were old photos all over the dinning room walls that my 11 year old son throughly enjoyed taking in. You lost me at the food. Fantastic bread and relish tray! The best part of the meal actually! My son ordered the NY Strip steak, medium rare. It was just okay. I ordered the pan fried walleye which was desperately begging for flavor. The menu was so, so small. To me this is usually a sign that the restaurant specializes in the items offered, certainly not the case. It took me 17 years to go and it'll take 17 to go back again, sadly. read more

Wisconsin's oldest restaurant was an interesting spot. The restaurant is elegant and all the staff is friendly and engaging. Hats off to their workers. They also had lovely Christmas decorations. Everything was a little bit different and not really in a good way. We began with some cold and not fresh bread, two slices of a baguette and two little puff mini-rolls. Instead of some butter, we got a plate of pickled vegetables to go with the bread. Not my cup of tea. We began with Red Circle's signature appetizer, the onion rings. The large rings are breaded and fried, then doused in steak sauce, mustard and cream. The breading became a soggy mess. The flavor of the three sauces didn't really do anything for me. The steaks only come with a choice of potato so if you want salad or soup, that's extra. The only soup was French Onion - just okay. The only salad options were Cesar with anchovies or a highly unusual wedge salad. Eh. My steak was tender and cooked nicely to medium rare. The filets are small and I chose hash browns to go with my steak. They were weird too. You can choose a sauce for your steak, though the one I had was strange and sweet. Glad it was on the side. My grandfather asked for a plain baked potato and the one he got was loaded with cheese, bacon and sour cream. They rectified the situation after a while. The ladies at the table next to us had the salmon and complained that it was doused in a strange cream sauce. I definitely feel like the menu is trying to hard to be avant-garde. read more

What a great evening. Sat in the bar area and were very well taken care of by Quinton. He makes the best drinks! 3 steaks and salmon were had. All cooked to perfection and seasoned appropriately. Not friendly and not what I expect from my home state of Wisconsin. I went to school with the Ketters who owned the restaurant a long time ago. 7-8 owners later, this deserves a lot better treatment. We decided to try this place out for my wife's birthday. We had the stuffed mushrooms to start and those looked sloppy and had an abundance of sauce on. She ordered the walleye piccata. First bit was a bone and the fish was fishy and stiff. I ordered the large ribeye. Not as tender as I hoped for the price but it was average. I had the skate schnitzel which I sent back due to the overpowering taste of ammonia. Not a fresh fish. This dish would have been very good with properly handled fish. I had the 6 oz. filet instead; cooked properly, nice piece of meat. My wife had the pork chop, which was slightly over-cooked (medium well), but flavorful. It was a rare disappointing dinner at a restaurant we've been to many times. The new ownership/management does a very good job at their other property. I'm optimistic the Red Circle Inn will equal it after the kinks are worked out. read more

This is my wife's birthday month so we had a $25 return gift certificate to apply toward our meal. Excellent service by our waitress Kendra and the meals were nicely presented. My wife had the pork ribeye with Parmesan grits and roasted asparagus, accompanied by a cherry old-fashioned. I had the Young Wisconsin Duckling Montmorrency a partially deboned roasted duckling, served with a black cherry sauce, wild rice and French green beans and a glass of port. The duck skin was crispy and the meat tender. We also received a complementary dessert, a Grand Marnier soufflé for her birthday. It was a delicious light dessert to end the meal! Each meal ends with a complimentary dish of homemade toffee! Our total bill was under $56 due to the coupon. Remarkably reasonable tab for all that we had. Went for a drive to check out Wisconsin's oldest restaurant location. Enjoyed a nice coctail at the bat with friendly professional bartenders. Shown to our table at our reservation time. The service, food, and atmosphere were absolutely wonderful. Creative menu items prepared very well. More expensive than traditional supper clubs but well worth it. What a wonderful experience we had at the Red Circle Inn under new ownership!! We came for our 43rd wedding anniversary as we wanted something very special and was it ever!! From the veggie relish tray with 2 yummy spreads for the bread to the appetizer of baked whipped feta with apricot preserves on toasted slices, we were amazed. This meal was off to a terrific start! We shared a delicious and large caesar salad. My husband enjoyed the Untraditional Short Rib Stroganoff which was incredibly flavorful with tender meat bites. For me it was the sea scallops that I had chosen even before I arrived! I love scallops and my oh my were these heavenly! The taste sensations on my plate were exquisite!! Our service was great, meals were hot, seasonal (apple) tart for dessert was so good!! It was a Wednesday evening so not very busy, just enough for our dining pleasure. Kyle the GM gave us a tour of the upper level which has a fresh "old" feel. The 2 bars, one dated from 1912ish, was relocated to a more prominent location and is stunning as is the second immense bar in another room. It's so beautiful up there!! Was looking for a special place to eat, supper club wise, on a Saturday. Found this to be the oldest supper club in Wisconsin so we thought we would give it a try. The drinks were very good but took a bit long to get them. The waitress was ok, although I say that because listening to the other servers were more "peppy" and informative when explaining the restaurant. The french onion soup was VERY GOOD. Ordered the prime rib and delmonico ribeye. First of all found it interesting for the prices that no salad or soup course offered! Also when we wanted to try another sauce we were charged $3.00 per sauce. In general that wouldn't be bad for for a $57.00 steak I thought it was a bit shallow. Meats weren't quality in our eyes, tough, but close to the doneness we wanted. Also thought no vegetable-was offered with the meals was cheap. Also an up charge for "loaded" bake potato and it was barely loaded! When we asked t have the food wrapped up, the sauce we paid extra for didnt get into the box. So to some this up if you want a nice drink and an awesome soup that's a nice place go, but unless that was the only thing we would go for we will not be back! I was there for a fund raiser. 5 people, at the same table, received the same steaks. All 5 were cooked differently. We each had a different amount of mashed potatoes. When I requested a box for my leftovers, I was told, "we don't do that for banquets." I understand if it was a buffet, but we paid per-plate. Good, historic local restaurant. Service and decor was fine. Fairly small menu. Food was good, but I didn't think great. Had the NY Strip with Butter Mashers. The steak was good although not great, no sear on the outside. We had two sauces, the RCI Steak Sauce and the Brandy Peppercorn and I thought they both had a bit strangely tangy flavor. We celebrated our anniversary last night at Red Circle Inn and had a fabulous time. The bar and wait staff were warm, gracious and very attentive. We started the evening with their Old Fashioneds which we decided were some of the best we've had! Ask for the honey simple syrup! Not sure if it's available all the time but we felt like it really made the drink special! Taylor was our waitress, ask for her, she is lovely and fun and made our night just perfect! She made a recommendation that we try the pork belly appetizer and it was incredible. Wish we'd had leftovers of that to take home!! Then we had the wedge salad, theirs is one of my favorites, the beer cheese soup which was insanely good - get it!! and we shared the crab stuffed shrimp and the Delmonico steak - also recommendations from Taylor. The food was out of this world delicious - steak done perfectly Oscar style with Bernaise. Taylor couldn't have suggested a better meal!! We live about 40 minutes from RCI but for future special occasions we'll make the trek because the place is just so enjoyable!! Not the same. Maybe the new owners don't want it to be, but we did. The food was ok, the menu was extremely limited. The service was ok, busser came and took our appetizer plates while we still had appetizers on the table. Ambience was totally different, we were there on a Friday evening, it used to be more of a supper club vibe, now families there with loud children, dressed like they were going to a picnic. We have no interest in going back, I know times change. We wish them well. read more
