Great restaurant with reasonable pricing, friendly hostess and staff. I stoped coming here since the Covid year after having a terrible meal and experience. Most recently returned and had a great meal. Since that return visit I have been back three additional times with family and friends. Nice drink options at the bar. I would strongly recommend this restaurant for a great steak and order the scalloped au gratin potatoes as a side. I was there recently and I wasn't all that impressed with the food. I had ordered the Ribeye and when it came out it was way too overcooked for my liking, it was basically a hockey puck. The flavor was very mid, didn't really have a lot to it. My friend had ordered the petite filet, and it was very over cooked for her as well. Such expensive prices for mediocre food. Also, the staff was not very friendly, most of them had an attitude. I did not feel very welcomed in this establishment. A little warm inside and a lot of warm outdoors on the night we visited. Temperature comfort aside, our Saturday evening at Kurt's was divine. Drinks at the bar were well mixed and delivered by friendly bartenders. We are not fans of the stainless steel martini glasses, so we'll request glassware on our next visit. Dinners were absolutely five star, and so was Mary, our server. Ribeye, medium rare, filet... same way, accompanied by side salads, potato choices, and a shared order of coconut shrimp. No room for dessert this time. I was delighted by the garnish of pea shoots on the plate of shrimp...it's hard to find that delightful delicacy and I enjoyed it. read more

This restaurant was on our local supper club list of places we wanted to go to. Very cute interior. Food was good, but for the price point the portions were skimpy. I ordered a petite filet and boy was it petite! It was cooked as requested and was good. The dinner salad was very good. They provide a bread basket with only one roll per person and don't offer to refill it. Usually this is not something we gripe about, but they were very busy and there was a wait for our meal and sometimes our waitress (who was very pleasant). We each had one drink with our meal. The total bill was over $100. I could have bought two steaks for $50 and had a comparable meal at home. We aren't big eaters and almost always leave with a takeout box, but we left hungry. Although it seems to be a very popular place we will probably opt for other restaurants in the area in the future. read more

From making reservations, the lady answering the phone an hour before opening made me feel so welcome, to our greeting upon arriving and then the food. Hot rolls to start, soup was delicious but the wagyu mini tomahawk and tempura flavored lobster were superb. Everyone made us feel welcome. Abby clearly enjoys her job. I do not care for steak. At all. Anywhere. But as we had a gift card for Kurt's and my husband does like steak, we had dinner there last night. We began with the blue crab stuffed mushrooms, which were phenomenal, followed by mushroom truffle soup. While it had a strong mushroom flavor, it was completely puréed and we both like the texture of chopped mushrooms in our soup. He had the 8 oz. sirloin, perfectly cooked to medium rare, with a large garnish of crispy and tasty onion strings and garlic mashed potatoes. He felt the steak, while having a good flavor, simply was not very tender. I had chicken Marsala and garlic mashed potatoes. We both agreed that the potatoes were among the best we've ever tasted, and my chicken was very moist and flavorful. The server was excellent, with finished dishes whisked away quickly and water glasses being topped off several times. Our only complaint, especially as we made the reservation two weeks prior, was the tiny table we were given. There was barely room for our appetizer, roll basket and butter dish, along with the plates and cutlery, a small lamp, vase and a tented dessert list. It was just uncomfortably crowded, and I nearly knocked over my water glass trying to get my cutlery out of the napkin in which it was wrapped. The restaurant was full, so moving to another table was not an option. The decor was a little bland in our dining room, we thought. Would we go back? Not sure. I wish there had been a vegetarian or pasta option; surely customers come with groups who are not meat lovers. read more

This is a fun spot - the waitstaff are approachable and helpful. The bar is a little crowded, but well stocked and a good place to wait for a table. You'll have to wait a bit for that table, it seems, even with a reservation. This may have more to do with staffing than any delay in efficiency. The food is very good - I had a filet - and the portions are generous given the cost. And the rat pack vibes pull out the essence of a hood Wisconsin supper club. We were seated right next to the bar, wish we could've had a little bit more of a private seating area, since we were celebrating our four years anniversary. I ordered my steak done medium rare. When I cut it open, it was blood red; definitely very rare. By the time the waitress returned, sent my steak back to the kitchen and brought it back to the table, everyone else at the table was finished eating. I heard some restaurants under cook their steaks on purpose, so if there are complaints they can easily fix it. But if a steakhouse doesn't know how to make a medium rare steak right the first time, it should give it up. We will not return. read more

Avoid! We stopped to visit someone in this town and asked about the restaurant. Their hesitation as they looked at each other before answering should have been a warning, but we decided to find out on our own. We walked into an empty place except for one couple dining. We were seated in a corner table and our server came out right away. We ordered drinks, once those were out, we ordered apps, soup and steaks. There were 2 groups of business folks who got loud pretty quickly and we never saw our server once the food came out. However, the groups were definitely tended to by the same server. The crab mushrooms were delicious, the lobster bisque is a salty cream of anything but lobster. The steaks are dry, overcooked and the texture feels like that if chopped steak. Believe me when I say you can get the same or better quality food at any chain restaurant (Texas roadhouse, chili's, even Golden Corral!) than this place. Before Covid, Kurt's was our local go-to no-fail perfect spot for a top notch fish fry or a steak. We were appalled by Kurt's lax Covid precautions, if you could even say there were any at all. But post Covid we were excited to return to our favorite spot. Months went by without a fish fry being available even though it was on the menu. (Kurt's fish fry was never inexpensive, but it was soooo good.) Each time we inquired why they didn't have the fish fry, we were told "there isn't any good fish available since Covid." Seemed dubious, but Covid messed up a lot of things for everyone so we gave them the benefit of the doubt. Fast forward to today. The fish fry has been removed from the menu. Apparently they couldn't reasonably double the cost of the fish fry as they did with nearly every other menu item...in the case of the steaks, at a lesser quality. A 5oz petite filet is $40 and it sure isn't prime beef. The ribeyes are mostly gristle and sinew, with chewy grainy meat in between. We like rare and medium rare, but in spite of it the meat is tough. Lovely accompaniments are a thing of the past. You're nickel and dimed for every single item with the exception of the hot rolls. We expect to pay a hefty price for steaks, but the prices at Kurt's went through the roof after Covid and the quality declined terrifically at the same time. The remodel makes the place seem cold; certainly not the cozy hideaway we loved for decades. Palmer's is a slightly longer drive from Delafield, but the quality of the steaks, all the food...and the dining experience itself has remained consistently high. It's a different vibe, of course. "Fancier," you could say. And it used to be far more expensive than Kurt's. Today, Kurt's is pricier, with much lower quality. We have gone back to Kurt;s four times in the past year and a half, hoping each time that they'd gotten their act together. We're sad to say, we won't be back again. read more

My last visit to Kurts left me very disappointed. Especially since I have been hyping it up to my parents. It was very busy and our reservation was late even though the table was available. The host reasoning was she didn't want to overwork the server. Instead we had to crowd around the bar. We got a few old fashions and they were reasomably priced even though they were not on the drink menu. We also started with Sauted Chicken Livers, this was full of flavor and a generous portion. The French Onion Soup was also the cheesiest I've ever had but that is considered a win to me! Our steaks on the other hand came out cold and dry. This was a shame because I was looking forward for my parents to love this place as much as I do but unfortunately they were not impressed. To the point: we had a great time during our first visit here and would definitely recommend! We went to Kurt's Steakhouse on January 26, 2023 to celebrate our 11 year anniversary. This was our very first visit here. When we arrived we were asked if we had a reservation. We didn't make one, but it was a Thursday evening in January and luckily they were able to seat us right away. There were a decent number of people mon the restaurant and I imagine that on a weekend or during the summer you would definitely want to make a reservation. Our server was quite busy but I was impressed with her flow between all the customers and I always felt like we were being taken care of. I believe her name was Carrie. I ordered a Hendricks martini with a twist. Unfortunately it came with an olive but when I tasted it, the drink was well done and I decided to keep it! (Don't want to waste a perfectly good cocktail!) They also served it in a metal martini glass which I have never seen, but which makes so much sense for and ice cold martini! For an appetizer we ordered the calamari. I was very happy with the light but crispy batter and the tender calamari beneath. The dipping sauce was a chunky marinara along with a wedge of lemon. It was very good. For our mains we both ordered the classic ribeye done medium rare and it did not disappoint! It was so tender and flavorful. Accompanying this was a large portion of fried onions, a choice between garlic mashed potatoes or a parmasean gratin mashed potato, and we both chose salads over the soup for our last side. The salads were ice cold, which I loved. The ambiance is old school and comfortable, which I loved. All in all it was a wonderful meal to celebrate a special occasion :) read more

Crazy busy for NYE. We had a reservation and showed up about 5 minutes early. Didn't get seated for about 15 minutes. In all, the service was good but everything came out slowly, which was expected. We had the French onion soup (amazing) and salad with excellent dressings. The steak was cooked perfectly and the sauce on my salmon was amazing. The au gratin potatoes were delish, too. The server was clearly trying to direct people to only 2 potato sides (mashed or au gratin). We asked for fries though and got them, too. Also, the Angel's Envy bourbon was $10 instead of $8 like it read on the menu, even with getting it with ice. It would help round out a great night if they update their menu since I made a decision based on that. Other than that, our server was great and we left satisfied. Definitely recommend but maybe go on a less busy night to get all you can out of the experience. read more

I came here with high expectations as a few of my sales coworkers take clients here for dinner. Upon entering we were greeted with wood paneling everywhere. In the dining rooms, at the bar, everywhere. We waited 20 minutes over our reservation time. Once it hit the 20 minute mark I went up to the hostess and asked if we were coming up soon - we were up next. We got placed at a high top near the bar, first available table. The server was had was great. She got triple sat and handled our table (of 2), a 6 top; and a 4 top. The 1 star missing from the review are strictly food related. I'll start with saying: If you go here, the French onion soup is the BEST I've ever had. It was robust in flavor and had enough cheese and onions. Perfection. Now on to the bad. We ordered an appetizer. The coconut shrimp was 90% breading and 10% shrimp. It was really hard to taste anything other than coconut. Don't ask me what sauce came with it because I couldn't taste it over the coconut. For the entree I ordered the filet. The onion rings were all oil. The mashed potatoes were meh. The steak was ok. Nothing too extreme that stood out. The searing on the steak was decent but I just wasn't that impressed. My advice, go there for the French onion soup. This alone will make it worth the trip. This was one of favorite steak places. Hadn't gone in over a year due to their covid policies, or lack of, and was eager to dine here again. I get that businesses are struggling yet but it took 2 tries to get a table here as they seem consistently busy, so it's a little hard to understand some of the cutbacks here. I ordered my usual Cosmo and it seemed noticeably watered down. Next came the oysters Rockefeller. Absolutely stellar. Just as I remembered. Both of us ordered filets. The sides were amazing but our steaks, although perfectly seasoned and cooked, were tough and grainy. You could see the grain and even hear the knife sawing through. Now it wasn't awful but it was definitely a lower grade piece of beef. Gone were the beautiful garnishes that made you feel so special and my favorite Oscar is now missing from the menu as well. For a local steak house you just can't beat the value, consistency and quality from Kurt's. I work in the area and I know I can go to Kurt's for any steak house craving and have a great meal. For $25 you get a choice of soup or salad, a great filet mignon and a choice of potato on the side, which you can exchange for any vegetable you like. It really is an amazing value and the quality of the meat is really great. I came in on a Thursday night with my friend and we were seated immediately around 6pm. They start you off with a complimentary bread basket, a rarity these days. We each ordered steaks and a glass of wine. Both steaks came with delicious fried onions on top and a mushroom sauce on the side. My friend ordered the salad and I ordered the minestrone soup to start, which comes with the meal. My soup was really delicious. I ordered a filet which was cooked perfectly medium like I asked. The bearnaise on the side was a delicious accompaniment and instead of a potato I opted for asparagus, excellently cooked. Kurt's is a Delafield/ Oconomowoc establishment and it's a wonderful spot to celebrate a family or have a dinner to catch up with a friend. They have an extensive wine list and there's no arrogant attitude of some steak houses in Milwaukee. Great service and local, I can't complain! read more

Another fabulous dinner last night at Kurt's. We do not get there as much as we should because it is always consistent, friendly, a great pour and awesome steaks. Last night was the Cowboy rib eye, usually I have the smaller one but the guy at the end of the bar was raving about his, so why not. It arrived perfection on a plate. My standard steakhouse order is a rib eye and time and time again I wish we had gone to Kurt's. I have been coming there since they opened and have always had a great meal. Given all of the challenges of the restaurant industry over the past 3 years Kurt and his staff have adapted and adjusted to remain viable. I know it was not easy and it was not fun paring down the menu to take some favorites away but it was necessary to be able to provide a timely quality experience to diners with limited staff. I am happy to see that many of the favorites have returned and service last night did not miss a beat. From being greeted by Chrissy, to friendly Jean Anne at the bar and the wonderful food coming out of the kitchen it was a total win. In a world where people take the time to express a negative experience in a review often times if expressed to the restaurant manager they can be resolved. This is a darn tough business and it is the passion of ownership and staff that want to do you well but they need to hear in order to make it better. Reading a negative review a day or so later is just a little too late for everyone.. Kudos to Kurt and his staff for making the changes necessary during troubling times in order to rise again to what I experienced last night, a five star evening. Thank you! read more
