This was our fist time in San Antonio, and our first BBQ there. It was good. And we went back twice before we left. I ordered the brisket and burnt ends with creamed corn and the green beans. My wife had the brisket and chicken the first time and I think the sausage the second. For us coming from California this was a nice treat. The only issue was they ran out of chicken the second time we went. That did not effect me, but it did my wife and the her family who went with us. Would I go back, yes for sure. I would call before going to make sure they have not run out of anything to save yourself the disappointment of driving to them only to find out what you are craving is not there. I'm done with this joint. I've been here 3 times in the last year and it's always been a disaster. First time was the loaded baked potato at over $12 a pop. Got it home and the potato was as hard as a rock. You've got to split that thing open to put the fillings in and they had the nerve to pass that on to a customer, no thanks. Second time was the BBQ sandwich that made me sick, awful experience. Third time was a couple of days ago. Again, the loaded BBQ baked potato. Thank you for cooking it thoroughly this time. First time having Smokey Mo's and it did not disappoint! It's so conveniently close to our home so it was an easy choice for a quick dinner. I ordered on Yelp and unfortunately by the time my husband arrived for the order they had run out of ribs :( made me sad because I was really looking forward to the ribs. I got chicken & brisket instead for my 2 meat plate. I ordered creamed corn and Mac & cheese. I was very impressed with how flavorful and moist the meats were. It's a chain restaurant so I was skeptical. Happy to say we were all satisfied, other than the fact that they had no ribs! That just means we'll have to return. The place was clean and the service was good. I was really on the fence deciding between two and three stars. I went with three due to the ribs. Not that they were good but based on the seasoning and so so flavor. So here we go with the same old problem that affects Rudy's. When they smoke the meats they wrap them in plastic and foil to keep, this creating a steam like atmosphere. The meat becomes mushy and not the typical pull you expect from the meat leaving the bone. This also changes the appeal for me. The chicken was better and the Turkey tasted like liquid smoke. To the biggest letdown. The sides. Beans and cole slaw. Both horrible. Beans, I swear are canned and the cole slaw is manufactured. BBQ sauce is again reminiscent of Rudy's sissy sauce. Won't be back. read more

I smoke brisket myself so maybe I am a little harsher than most; however, that being said, I ordered the two meat plate with brisket (point not flat) and the jalapeno sausage with potato salad and green beans for the two sides and a sweet tea. I took my seat and started writing a Yelp review while I waited. A reasonable time later, the aluminum tray with my meal was ready. There is something satisfying about eating from a tray. I stopped by the condiment bar then settled in try the protein spread. Brisket first...always. Being from the point end of the brisket, I expected it to be a little more moist. It was dried out. Disappointed, I moved to the jalapeno sausage. Tasty but didn't make up for the brisket. I would never critique another persons brisket. I will say that I like mine with a nice thick and flavorful bark. This one didn't have one; neither did it have a definite smoke flavor. It was good, but when you do this daily, it should be outstanding. The potato salad was tasty and the green beans...well, are green beans. So unfortunately, this was a meal that I will likely not relish to have again. On previous visits with the wife, we typically get the chopped with a couple buns from the drive through. I have been back and forth with Smokey Mo's BBQ. This time I ordered the 1/2 pound of brisket through the drive through. Last order of the brisket was good all around. Nice sliced and all meat. This time it was hunks of meat, burnt ends and lots of fat. A one star performance. Don't know what makes them give me the trash meat one time and the good stuff the next. But IF I ever get foolish enough to go back I am going inside to eat and I will be right there to reject the trash meat. Wish I would have taken a picture of the junk I got. read more

Today was a treat. We had several menus items but ordered more to take out once we tasted the fare. Very friendly Manager of the family that started the business. He was on top of his crew and results in the cooking of foods three times a day to keep up with demand in just the drive through! Yup we ate inside and few do I hear as covid scare them to drive through. The ribs succulent and meaty, chicken yummy, sausage great and brisket was a choice between more marbled and lean. We took marbled and the bark was tasty too. Turkey to eat at home. Three sides made us take more of the corn and beans as the potato salad was like home. I must sound like I am raving and I should be as I want information about a franchise in DFW area. This food will be a big hit and competes with local food. The lack of consistency kills me here. I have eaten here many times before, and I always get the chop baker. Today was the first time I have ever realized that the meat is not chopped brisket. It is a mixed up conglomeration of pork, turkey, and whatever. Huge chunks of turkey today. I asked what was on top of my potato, as I had never seen it look like that before. Arrived just before 9am on a Monday morning. The restaurant was empty and encompassed in smoke. Ordered a few breakfast tacos, breakfast bowl and biscuits and gravy. I was given a styrofoam cup in leu of the normal plastic reusable cup (for the same ridiculous price.) The sweet tea didn't taste fresh and the sugar had clearly settled to the bottom as my first sip tasted like diabetes in a cup. Asked for our order to go, but was handed a tray with everything on it minus a bag, so opted to eat in person. The brisket was overly salty and disappointing. Biscuits were hard and coffee was no better than to be expected. I was looking for some breakfast and not having much luck, all I could find were the same old fast food places. I saw the breakfast sign in their window and pulled in. I'll be honest, it was mediocre at best. The expansive price tag did not match the quality of food. We ordered ribs, brisket and sausage as the "meat". Sausage was by far the best followed by the ribs. Brisket IMO was 1 star. The sides were good, buttered potatoes, beans and Mac and cheese. Beans were great, so were the potatoes and the Mac and cheese was again mediocre. They have their own sauce. Original and hot, I think the original had more heat than the hot. One star for customer service, the girl at the window with the nose piercings was extremely rude. When I pulled up to the drive thru, I asked if I could have a few seconds to look at the menu, she rudely said "let me know when you're ready!" I then started to order and didn't hear anything back. I said hello a few times before deciding to pull up to the window. She opened the window and said "can I help you?" I said "hi yes I just wanted to order" and she said "OK?!" The barbecue is a little better than most franchise barbecue, but the service is a little lacking, no one should consider that it's primarily staffed with really young people but I haven't got them selves figured out yet much less how to run a business. They have a drive thru which would make me want to come back when I'm in a hurry and looking for some bbq that is better tasting than bill millers. Their macaroni and cheese while quite cheesy needed a little extra seasoning. The iced tea was brewed just right with no too much or little sugar. The pork ribs were seasoned perfectly and were moist. The brisket wasn't bad but it also wasn't memorable. They do have sliced bread but you'll need to ask for it hen picking up your order because they don't automatically add it to the plate. read more
