Cute little spot with a ton of character! The service was great and very personable. Food was really good, from main course to dessert. HIGHLY recommend this place!
The place is cute and the parking lot is across the street. When you walk in it is true to its theme of the purple pig. It was clean and staff was welcoming. I ordered the pulled pork combo with Mac and cheese on the side. My husband ordered the brisket plate with a side of Mac and cheese and potato salad and a Sweet tea. We also ordered and pulled pork combo to go for our son. To me the pulled pork was okay. I think it needed more bbq sauce maybe. It was hard to tell what it was missing. You do have to pay extra for extra bbq sauce. We got the sweet bbq sauce an it was okay. I wasn't a fan of the Mac and cheese, I felt it needed some seasoning. The potato salad was good. My husband got the brisket and said it was a little chewy. He didn't like sweet tea, and said it had a weird taste. The food wasn't bad, it's just I had high expectations because of the what I have heard about how good it was. However, I did go when it was about an hour to closing so maybe that had something to do with it. I might try it again.

We placed our order online. It was getting close to closing time. We were able to pay with a link so we can run in and pick up. So the food now the turkey leg was so tender and juicy. That was good. The ribs had a bite to them. Not really tender. The brisket I like my brisket sliced rather than chopped but they only serve chopped brisket. The sausage was ok. The sides beans potato salad was good but the cream corn was not it. But too we did come in close to closing time. I heard the Mac and cheese is delicious and I wish I can say it is but it was sold out. So I guess it is good. I would go back to give another try. Oh they have corn hole out front to play.

The inside is decorated with accents of purple and the have indoor and outdoor seated available. I really enjoyed my lunch. The portions were good and I am still full many hours later.
Some of the best bbq in SA My favorite for sure Love their bbq beans are actually baked bbq beans and not charro Mexican style beans like a lot of bbq places do around here. Meat was tender, sides were delicious. And their customer service was super friendly and top notch. If this place wasn't 45 mins away from my house, they would see me more often haha!

We tried to go for beef ribs on a Tuesday; When we got there, we were told beef ribs are only on Saturday and Sunday...so, we left and came back! We got there on Saturday @ 11 am when they open on 4/5/25 ( a woman told us to come early to make sure we get them before they sell out) When we got there they told us the beef ribs weren't ready and they were sorry to whoever told us to come early lol; we ended up waiting an hour and a half..... Demetric: The male owner who argues with anyone and everything, please learn to stop. My 4 star review went to a 1 because customer service to my family and I, means the most. Food: 4/5 2 beef rib plates: Was the hour and a half wait worth it? Yes and no. My sister's beef rib was DRY girl- dryyyy. Maybe they let it rest too long or over cooked? I don't know, but ahhhhh. I just bought a house in Converse, and discovering Purple Pig has already become one of the best parts of the move. The BBQ nachos completely blew me away. Most places stack nachos lazily, and by the time you reach the bottom it's just plain chips...But here, every single chip was loaded with cheese and meat. That kind of care and attention to detail is rare, and it made the whole meal unforgettable. You can feel the pride in everything they do, from the perfectly layered nachos to the warm, welcoming vibe of the staff. It's clear this is a true family-owned spot where quality and hospitality come first. Prices are spot-on, portions are generous, and you leave feeling like you got more than your money's worth. Purple Pig isn't just another BBQ place. It's a place you can tell people are passionate about, and that passion shows up on every plate. I only wish they had more locations, but I have no doubt that with food and service like this, expansion is in their future. Until then, I'll be making the drive from Converse happily and often. Tried this place for dinner with my family. Nice, cute spot with an indoor and sizable outdoor eating area. Parking was across the street in a lot not necessarily the best size. Counter service was really good - and they have a teacher discount, which is a big plus! My wife got the baked potato with brisket. The potato was massive, but my wife thought it would probably be better with pulled pork. I got the rip tip plate, which is what they advertise on the sign. The rib tips were really good for rib tips, but I will be trying something else next time. All in all, very good.
Just tried on Sunday purple pig!!! It's such a cute restaurant. The cashier was so nice and helpful. I loved loved loved loved it here. My favorite items were the brisket more than the beef tips & most importantly the BeANs!!! I have never liked beans on the side but that was fantastic. My only complaint is when you ask for water they give you a small cup and they serve it to you. Since the food is very seasoned and salty I had to keep getting up, I wished they can just give you a pitcher or something.
Wow. Great food and service at a reasonable price. Now I know why they fight over the peach cobbler. Highly recommend this family friendly restaurant.
Purple pig is owned and operated by people of our community. You're supporting a small business. That's just the tip of the iceberg. The food is delicious! Their sides are amazing, their meat is soft and well flavored and seasoned. This place also is decorated so cute! The people at the register are friendly and helpful. Give them a try! The Purple Pig BBQ has fantastic BBQ!!! We tried this place out for dinner tonight and were impressed. As soon as you walk in the door, you are hit with the wonderful aroma of BBQ smoke flavors. The staff were all friendly and helpful. I really like the fact they show some love to military personnel, first responders, and teachers. Half our group was running a little late so we ordered some brisket nachos with mild BBQ sauce. The brisket was delicious and the sauce had great flavor. Once the rest of our group arrived, we ordered lots of different things. I got the chopped brisket plate with Mac-n-cheese and creamed corn with mild BBQ sauce and a side of the hot BBQ sauce. I was surprised at how much delicious meat came with the plate. Both sauces were delicious, I ended up using quite a bit of the hot bbq sauce because it was so good. The Mac-n-cheese and creamed corn were really good with lots of flavor. My wife got the pulled pork plate with coleslaw. The pork was just as good as the brisket and full of flavor. My wife said the coleslaw was delicious. Some other items ordered by our group were the loaded backed potato and the smoked sausage plate. The potato was huge and fully loaded with a generous serving of meat. The smoked sausage was also really good. My wife saw the deserts and ordered a slice of carrot cake and the peach cobbler. Both looked amazing. Carrot cake is one of my favorites so I was excited to try it. It was good but not the best I've had and was probably the worst thing we ordered (if there had to be a worst thing, because it was still good). The peach cobbler with a scoop of ice cream was absolutely delicious! The food is top notch bbq with great service. I recommend checking this place out.

If I could give this place 10 stars, I would! We showed up about 45 minutes before the kitchen closed and they were still so welcoming and never made us feel rushed. I ordered the BBQ parfait with a grape lemonade and gooooodness... it was delicious and super filling!! We also had the chance to meet one of the owners, who was really nice. The staff overall was kind, welcoming, and knowledgeable about the menu. The inside is pretty small with just a few tables both inside and outside, but it had a cozy vibe. I'd definitely love to come back and try more items on the menu! read more

I was lucky to find this BBQ restaurant to try. The employees were friendly and there was seating inside and outdoors. I only the pull pork sandwich with the medium sauce. The sauce was just delicious. The sandwich is a good size with lots of meat. The bun had a good texture to it. The pork was done right. I had the potato salad with my meal. I enjoyed it. I can't believe it took us this long to try the Purple Pig! No more driving to San Antonio for BBQ, because this was fantastic. My wife got the brisket nachos with mild BBQ sauce and loved it. Their speciality is probably the rib tips, which I got and highly recommend. The portions are very generous. I prefer the spicy BBQ sauce, but careful, it's definitely hot! Detroit folks will appreciate their selection of Faygo in the refrigerator. read more

Purple is the word. The building was well decorated and appealing. We ordered some of each meat be the pound. The brisket was cubed up rather than pulled or thin sliced, but was delicious. You can't do that with tough brisket. The pulled chicken was flavorful and well seasoned. The pulled pork really shined. The smoke shown through on the pork. Finally, yes, we were sharing, we tried the whole turkey leg. It was fantastic and not common at other bbq restaurants. The staff was friendly and helpful. One lady came to check those in the dining room. Finally, there was plenty of parking across the street. Overall, this place is a winner. read more
It's Black Restaurant Week through this Sunday, March 3. We wanted to show our support so I looked at the list of participating restaurants. Have known about @thepurplepigbbq but hadn't visited to try it out until today for dinner. Not only is this a black-owned restaurant, but it's also a veteran-owned business. Demetric and Cherise Herron are both Army Veterans, who served our country. Made me even happier that we chose to stop by. It was also great to see that there was quite a crowd on a Friday night. Cherise took our order at the counter and checked on us to make sure we're enjoying the food. The Pork Rib Tip Plate is the featured dish for the restaurant week, where $1 is donated to the Lemonade Circle. We ordered that along with half pound of Chopped Brisket, a side of creamed corn, cole slaw, and potato salad. Hubby was excited for the huge Turkey Leg. We all tried everything and it was great tasting food. Hubby tried the hot BBQ sauce while I tried both the mild and sweet. Both were good but I preferred the sweet. Loved all the sides and the chopped brisket was so tender. Outstanding and highly recommended! read more

This restaurant is located in what appears to have been a quaint little house off Main St. in Schertz. I enjoyed sitting out on the well decorated and manicured front porch. You go up to the counter to place your order. They give you a buzzer that lets you know when your order is ready. Of all the food that we ordered, I liked the chopped brisket nachos the best. The brisket is flavorful and juicy without being too fatty. The pork rib tips were full of flavor but fatty. The green beans were so good! Lastly, I really enjoyed peach cobbler. TERRIBLE FIRST IMPRESSION!! We ordered take out today and the first young lady who took our order was really nice! The second young lady who gave us our food had an awful attitude. We also asked the male owner a question about parking and he answered but was dismissive. My mom also gave him a compliment on his picture with his spouse and he didn't respond...just kept walking. They weren't busy at all as no one was there but us. What we got: A rib tip plate, a sausage link, beef ribs, a side of Mac and cheese, and a pulled pork sandwich. We were definitely disappointed with the presentation of the sausage link and amount of the ribs for the price. We poured the sauce on the ribs they were plain. The amount of food in the rib tip plate is good and my two sides were Mac and cheese and baked beans. The baked beans were good but the Mac and cheese is really nasty. The rib tips in the meal were good and we really like the sauce. The rib tips that were à la cart were tough and small. We haven't tried the pulled pork sandwich yet. I was definitely hoping for a better experience since I just moved to San Antonio and my husband is active duty so we wanted to support fellow veterans. My youngest son turned 29 last Saturday. We celebrated with a private visit with the capybaras at the Snake Farm before driving to the town of Schertz to eat lunch at the Purple Pig. Believe it or not, that was my first time to ever be in Schertz. Since moving to San Antonio 51 years ago, Schertz was just a name on highway signs when traveling on I-35. I am not exactly sure how my son heard of the Purple Pig. I do know that I am very glad he did. It is now my favorite place to eat barbecue in the San Antonio area for several reasons. The first reason is that it is just a really "cute" place. They decorated and furnished with purple touches that just make it seem bright and cheery. On top of that, it is spotless. The owners are former military. I grew up in the military and can tell you that this restaurant would pass a white glove inspection. My second reason for falling in love with this restaurant is the staff. We only actually saw three people working when we were there, but they were super nice and friendly. The woman who took our order even came to our table to ask us how our meal was. Now let's saunter over to the food. I wasn't purple, but I sure felt like a pig with my order after adhering to a severely limited low calorie diet for the last three months. I got the pork rib tip meal with sides of potato salad and macaroni and cheese. It came served in a to go box. I'm sure they knew that even a fat man like me couldn't eat that huge pile of rib tips in one setting. Believe me... I tried. They were so good. They were those little ribs with those white rubbery bones in them. The meat was juicy and sucked right off of those little bones easily. I chose the mild sauce. It was extra special! The potato salad was heavenly. I told the owner that it was just like my mother's. She told me it was her grandmother's recipe. It was rich and creamy with just a tiny hint of mustard, but not enough that you would classify it a mustard potato salad. The macaroni and cheese was also wonderful. It was super cheesy and the noodles were perfectly cooked and not soggy. My wife and youngest son both ordered the baked potato with brisket. I couldn't believe the size of the potatoes. They looked like footballs! The pile of brisket on them was insanely huge, as well. They both said they were as good as they looked. My son brought a bunch home. My wife gave up and ate the brisket and left about half of her potato. You really need to give the Purple Pig a try. It is not that far of a drive. Plus, we came home using back roads and avoided most of the I-35 mess. read more

The food here is great. All the sides I tried were good. I ordered the rib tip plate with Mac and cheese and potato salad as my sides. I tried my wife's cream corn side and it was also delicious. The ribs were nice and tender. I had my ribs with the spicy bbq sauce. read more

Great veteran-owned BBQ! We ate a beef brisket sandwich, Purple Pig plate, and pulled pork plate on the patio. Each dish was served with white bread. Great sides: beans, coleslaw, potato salad, and cream corn (not creamed but with lots of butter and cream!). read more

OMG!! This was my first time at The Purple Pig and I was NOT disappointed!! EVERYTHING was DELICIOUS!! I had the rib tips (juicy and not dried out), baked beans, and potato salad. I don't eat bread like that and a slice went missing. Portions were hefty!! Oh, the sausage link was good too! The peach cobbler I'm good and full!! The wait staff was professional! read more

This place is barbecue done right! Friendly and efficient customer service, relaxed, vibe and delicious barbecue. Three pulled pork sandwiches, chips and a rib plate were under $45. Meat fell off the bone of the ribs and the sides of macaroni and cheese and potato salad were well seasoned and flavorful. The kids finished their pulled pork sandwiches and chips and exclaimed multiple times how much they enjoyed them. Delicious! That's the review! Here are the deets.. my hubby had been here a few times but it was my first. I asked one of the staff what would you recommend to a first timer she says with conviction, The Rib tips! I agree and I order baked beans and potato salad for sides. Because in my opinion if you can't get those sides right, you have no business putting the word BBQ next to your business's name. People let me tell you the Purple Pig deserves to have BBQ next to the name! My rib tips were so tender and good I had to make myself stop eating them or I'd embarrass myself in front of my mother in law! The sauce was so good and the way it stuck to the bread! Yummy! You know what I mean! That bbq flavor and the sauce makes the bread a little toasty and soaks into the bread! For my hubby's meal he had pulled brisket green beans and Mac n cheese. Decent but I'd say the rib tips is where it's at. Hubby says he'll go back to the rib tips next time too. He tried the brisket to get something different but we agreed, my food was waaay better than his. We're used to tender & juicy sliced brisket and this shredded like pulled pork and ok. Regarding the interior, there is indoor and outdoor seating available. I love the cute hints of purple to play off the restaurant's name but trust me you may wanna eat your food at home lest you embarrass yourself in front of strangers.. but who cares, they don't know you! Eat in and don't worry about having bbq all over your hands and face possibly your clothes because you won't care! It's that good! For dessert we split a tasty peach cobbler with vanilla ice cream.. it had the perfect ratio of peaches, crust and peach syrup. Very good! Thinking of a visit to the Purple Pig BBQ?
