So this place recently changed owners, but the food and service were amazing! The flavors are out of this world and a simpler menu is what you'll find. Bread pudding was delicious (forgot to take a photo of it.)

Full five stars was earned on my last visit to Birotes over the holidays. I went by myself for breakfast, and had the green chilaquiles with cafe de olla. The portion was very, very generous, everything was hot, fresh, and bursting with flavor, and I was provided some Christmas cookies on the house! It was a super pleasant and relaxing visit, a quite interlude to the crazy Christmas rush. They also had a full pastry case when I went this last time, so I got to see all of their amazing looking baked goods. I got a couple to-go, and enjoyed them at home later. Really need to bring my Dad here, looking forward to coming back!

Birotes has been a great restaurant to stop by when we're in the Kitty Hawk area and we're craving Mexican breakfast/brunch. I also pick up breakfast tacos from here occasionally. The food is always delicious and the portions are big! This is one of those places where my husband and I tend to split a plate and add on tacos if we're still hungry. I will say that service could be better. It's best to go when it's not busy (avoid the lunch rush as it will take 40+ minutes to get your food), but I have noticed most of the time the service is slow. Still recommend stopping by!

Breakfast tacossss!!!!!! Stopped on a whim and turned out to be a great decision. I ordered a couple breakfast tacos to go. The potato egg was good, the potato ranchera was better. The hands down star of the show was those flour tortillas! They were amazing- probably the best I have had in San Antonio! I gotta go back just for more of those. The inside of the restaurant has plenty of seating for dining in. Nothing special. Pretty good service, it was a to go order so not much happening there. But man, those tortillas are still on my mind.

I guess we're a frequent flyer at this establishment... everything on the menu is something to experience. While waiting for a seat... Ok.. when did this place get so crowded? Y'all must have read my bad reviews and wanted to see for yourselves how much this place disappoints ‍ Anyway, as I was saying, while waiting to be seated in a crowded house... had a freshly made donut. OMG.. the fat girl in me sang!!! Sorry, no pictures of me eating the donut, scarffed it down like my life depended on it. We finally sat, and the husband and I both ordered a torta. These suckers are so huge that we definitely could have shared. If you decide to eat here... a little PSA: beware.. your tastebuds will literally sing!

Very friendly service. Each person made sure to take their time with you and make the experience personal.they greeted everyone coming in and out. We came for some last minute tamales for Christmas and even chatted with the woman running the front. She was very funny. I plan to come back to eat inside and try their breakfast.

My family and I were seated promptly and I chose the fresh lemonade, it tasted perfect. I got the quesabirria plate and it was piping hot and so delicious. I thought it came with 3 but almost shed a tear when I saw there was a 4th one . The staff are absolute sweet hearts and treat you like family. Our wait for the food was short about 15-20 minutes and they apologized (?!) for the long wait but said that it was because it's all made fresh lol. My experience here was amazing, very much recommend.

I agree with the other reviews, nice little gem. Staff is friendly and service is quick. Portions are huge we had to take leftovers home. I had the flautas and there were huge pieces of chicken which made them bigger than you'd get at other places. The refried beans were delicious and for me it's normally I'm either way if I want them. These had a fantastic flavor. I could be completely wrong but it tasted like there was some type of cheese in them. Next time I go I'm going to try the mini tacos. Quesadilla was huge and my oldest could only eat one section. Bought a few things from the bakery but didn't take any pictures. What we got was delicious and will be buying more next time. If you ever find yourself on this side of time I highly recommend eating here.

Ohh! Of course I recommend this spot! As soon as we arrived we were greeted and offered some sweet bread. I had informed them that it was my mama's birthday and they gifted her some cookies. We then sat down and ordered some cafe de olla, chilaquiles verdes, huevos rancheros, and a machete de chicharrón rojo. Everything was delicious! They then surprised my mom with a stuffed heart concha! It made my mom feel extra special. It was such a great experience!

Visited the new restaurant today. I am impressed. The location is small, but there are tables and curbside. The service was friendly and fast. I had the chilaquiles with fried egg on top. The egg was ordered over medium, but it came over easy. The pappas had a good crisp to the outside and softness on the inside ... love potatoes that way. They like most of the plate could have used more salt. The sauce was thick and flavorful. The corn tortillas had a lot of body to them and held up well to being filled with beans and sauce. I also tried the wedding cookies ... good but did not wow me.

Today, it was brunch with my big brother at The Brunch Spot in Converse, TX (suburb of San Antonio), and it absolutely lived up to its name. I ordered the avocado toast and my brother ordered the French toast served with eggs and bacon. Their slogan is "we're serving up sunshine". Love that! Who don't need a little sunshine? Everything was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully prepared. The avocado toast was simple...creamy avocado spread generously over hearty toast, seasoned perfectly and topped with a fresh egg whites that tied it all together. It was filling without being too heavy and tasted even better than it looked. The French toast was the real delight. The bread was thick, soft on the inside, and lightly crisp on the outside, with just the right amount of sweetness. Paired with well cooked eggs and crispy, savory bacon, it struck that perfect balance between sweet and savory that makes a brunch memorable. Beyond the food, the atmosphere was warm and welcoming. Na, short for Ajanay, was friendly and attentive. The Brunch Spot is definitely a great choice if you're looking for a satisfying, comfort style brunch.

But once we sat down, it made sense. Everything is made to order, and you can taste the difference. There was only one server handling the entire floor, and when a rush hit all at once, it definitely got busy fast. But here's the thing... she handled it with grace. Even when you could tell she was juggling a lot, she stayed attentive, kind, and kept checking in on us. That kind of effort deserves recognition. Now let's talk about the real star of the show... The Texas French Toast. Oh. My. Goodness. Thick, golden, perfectly cooked slices topped with homemade whipped cream and fresh berries that tasted like they were picked that morning. It wasn't just good, it was indulgent in the best way. Sweet without being overwhelming. Rich but balanced. I couldn't even finish it (which says a lot), and happily boxed the rest up. The only regret? I ate all the berries first. Rookie mistake. My husband ordered one of the hash plates and said it was solid comfort food... hearty, flavorful, and filling. He couldn't finish his either, so I'm definitely sneaking a few bites later. Overall, we left impressed. The food feels intentional. The flavors feel thoughtful. It's the kind of local spot you want to root for. And the fact that they serve pork lumpia for lunch? Say less. We'll be back for that. If you're looking for a cozy, made-from-scratch brunch spot in Universal City, this one is worth the wait. Good food takes time, and this place proves it. ***This review is based on my taste buds. The building is easy to find, situated next to Randolph Dental and across the street from Take 5 Oil Change. Parking is straightforward. The restaurant shares an outdoor lot with several neighboring businesses, and there was plenty of parking directly in front, including clearly marked handicapped spaces, plus an additional row across from the restaurant. Inside, the space is open, comfortable, and very clean. The interior seating is well maintained, and staff were consistently attentive to keeping the dining area tidy throughout the visit. The setup feels relaxed and inviting, and it is also nice to see that outdoor seating is available if you prefer fresh air. The food was excellent. I ordered the veggie omelette with added avocado and turkey, which was savory and well balanced. The hash browns were well seasoned with a good pepper profile, and the white chocolate latte stood out in particular. It did not have the artificial syrup aftertaste that is common at many places, which made it especially enjoyable. Service is what truly made the visit stand out. Jacqueline was friendly, attentive, and helpful from start to finish. She checked in at the right moments, answered questions without rushing, and kept everything running smoothly. Small, but comfortable place that has a few tables inside and out. Sell coffee and baked goods but also has a nice little breakfast/brunch menu. The owners ran the place and really seemed "happy" to see us, took time to walk us through the menu, offer suggestions, etc. just extremely "comfortable" place to be from the moment we walked through the door. My wife and I always pick two entrees and share. We went with the breakfast sandwich and the biscuits and gravy and we were not disappointed. The house made brioche bun for the sandwich and the biscuits were out-of-this-world delicious. Based on that, I would wager that the other baked goods they had displayed (scones, cinnamon rolls, etc) would have been wonderful! (I'll be back soon to confirm this) Back to the food...the sandwich was very good- egg was perfectly "over hard" and high quality cheese and bacon. The maple-chipotle mayo absolutely made the bite. Next time I will ask for extra, maybe slathered on both halves of the bun. The flavor of that mayo was unlike anything I've tasted- thoroughly enjoyed it and it complimented the overall flavor of the sandwich so well. Delicious!!! As already mentioned the biscuits were outstanding...which is not something that I say lightly. While I will always try biscuits and gravy, I am usually disappointed and it is typically because of biscuits that are too dense and too dry. These were neither- they were incredible and I'm not sure what gave them the touch of "sweet" but that little touch took the flavor of the biscuit over the top for me. Finally, the gravy was perfect from the amount of sausage to the elegant "sage-iness" of the bite. With respect to the quantity of gravy, it is not uncommon for places to not give enough gravy. The ratio of gravy to biscuit must be difficult to master, well they've done it at Northern D'Lights!! Just incredible experience and we will be back, on the regular! The good: The beer selection was solid, and the cucumber margarita was genuinely delicious. The not-so-good: * Wedge Salad: The salad itself was fine, but the highlight--bacon--was extremely sparse. Six tiny squares were placed on the edge of the plate, which felt oddly rationed and not nearly enough to enjoy throughout the salad. * Mussels: This was the most concerning dish. We expected mussels in a white wine and garlic sauce, but instead received them in a buttery yellow-orange sauce with a very unpleasant odor. The smell was not "fishy" but something far more off-putting--honestly resembling manure. I've worked in the restaurant industry for years and don't send food back lightly, but this was not normal. The server said the smell was typical, suggesting vinegar may have made it "pungent." Ultimately, the manager told us we still needed to pay for the dish, which we did without argument, though the experience was disappointing. * Shrimp Appetizer: It was fine, but nothing memorable or worth raving about. * Burger: The patty was overcooked, the bun was dry, and the fries ended up being the best part--crispy and greasy. Overall, we were hoping for a much better experience. While the drinks were enjoyable, the food quality and response to legitimate concerns left a lot to be desired.
