Wait, how did I never review this? During its prime (which I'm not even sure when that would have been now that I think about it), Smokey Bones in Wyomissing, while perhaps never THE destination, certainly was A destination. That destination was perfect for families wanting perfectly acceptable casual suburban chain-quality BBQ. It was mass produced, sauces and soups came in plastic sacks, the cattle used here weren't the GMO-free type that your granny used to eat. These are the animals juiced to the max, barely able to support their own weight, but man, what succulent ribs they have. We didn't know it at the time, but COVID was perhaps the golden age of take out ordering. Restaurants were practically giving food away, trying to get some return on the food rotting away in their pantries. Smokey Bones had some insane wing deals, like BOGO deals that fed me for a week, easy. One order I found confirmed in an old email from 2020 shows 32 bone-in wings and 32 boneless wings for $40. I mean hot damn. I like the rest of America at the time was living like a fat, gluttonous slob. Remember ordering bottles of liquor to your house back then? And you would just be signing for it in like a bathrobe. Good times. Darn shame to see this one go, not because I went regularly or because the food was particularly good, or because the service was exceptional or anything, and certainly not for the decor or music selection, wait, what was the question again? Ah right, it's a shame to see it go because it was a microcosm, it was home to people who worked there 5, 10+ years or more. There was lore. There were l, pranks, jokes, cruelty, but lifelong friendships, and even love no doubt. Also conniving backstabbing. And countless numbers of mundane, unremarkable shifts. All added up, though, it's one I'm sure all the employees can look back on and say, "That was an experience." RIP Smokey Bones and to the hopes and dreams of the entire staff that were crushed on April 28, 2026 when the doors were closed and remain closed to this day. Personally I'm hoping for a P. F. Chang's to move in, but I may be slightly biased. read more

I ordered a half rack of their signature ribs and let me tell you! The meat was so tender and juicy. I was able to pull it clean off the bone with a fork - no fingers required. This came with 2 sides of your choosing. The fire roasted corn was ok. Pretty bland and tasted like something from a freezer bag. But the corn bread. Soft, moist, and came with a honey almond butter. It was like desert. The service was pretty slow for a Saturday afternoon with only about a quarter of the restaurant full. But other than that, it was a great experience with incredible bbq. read more

OK, where do I begin the barbecue here is not that great. I order a platter with some beans some pulled pork and a sausage. I will tell you this the pulled pork was dried. Super dried. The sausage was really hard and I had a bad taste the mashed potatoes with the loaded bacon on top the bacon almost broke one of my tooth. The bacon was really hard. It was disgusting. Would I recommend this place? no way please don't come here. Don't waste your money. You will not enjoy this place. read more

Absolutely horrible food. service was great. Fried pickles came out in 3 mins, tasted like frozen. Horrible. Salad was terrible, few little tomato chunks and a lot of croutons. Dressing was as thick as concrete. Ribs were kinda burnt, tasteless and were the wirst I have had. Baked potato was not too bad. Diet Coke was great. Food wretched , but the server did very well snd super friendly and efficient. How is this place in business. Worst bbq I have and I lived in Texas for 30 years read more

Where to start...first and last time I will eat at a Smokey Bones. Waiting area was full when we arrived a little after 5p.m. Figured we'd have to wait a bit. Hostess gave the standard "it'll be about 15 minutes" to which hubs replied - you have to say that don't ya? Lol - their blank stares said it all. Layout is open and loud -- like cafeteria loud with louder music blaring. Not sensory friendly if that's what you need. On to the food.... 45 minutes later we were seated. Our waitress was great, prompt, very attentive and quick with the refills. I got the rib feast - ribs with 2 sides, garlic toast and drink for $20. It said " house rack". A bit more than a 1/2 rack but just shy of a full rack. Sides were mashed with gravy and mac n cheese. See pic below. 1/2 cup of mashed with canned gravy. But the best is the mac n cheese. It's listed as a premium side for $4.99 extra. Please. Save. Your. Money. It was cooked literally plain cooked pasta with melted cheese over top. No sauce or anything. The ribs were ok. Very fatty and the sauce was just meh. The garlic "toast" was soggy bread wishing to be garlic and toast. Hubs got the pulled pork with fries and baked beans and 2 slices garlic toast. Was about $17. Healthy portion of pork and fries. Pork had no bones but a lot of extra fat. Fries were ok. No extra seasoning. He said they weren't bad but nothing special. Overall it was meh - it was a meal. Pretty much the fast food equivalent of BBQ. Don't think i'll waste my time to come back. read more

Tabatha was so friendly and accommodating! Food was great as well! Having a great waitress is definitely a plus!!

Probably not return. Simply the value wasn't here for me. Cost did not fully justify the service atmosphere and food quality. It may have 10 years ago. Atmosphere similar to basic places like Chili's or Texas Roadhouse; service ok; food less impressive. See pics. - Broccoli steamed as described = good - mashed potatoes decent but gravy had a strong canned flavor = blah - ribs were fatty and dry on the bottom = bad I could be catching them on a bad Wednesday night. But I don't see myself rolling the dice again. read more

Mark was a great server, cool dude and on point. Didn't need to wait for anything was totally available even with attending other tables.

We had a wonderful meal and excellent service from Craig at this location! Very much enjoyed it!

Worst ribs I ever had in my life don't come here. Dry, not flavorful, not a lot of meat. It's cheap but not even worth the $

Have always liked Smokey Bones and this was my first time to the Reading location. So good. Friendly staff, place had strong BBQ smell and the food was perfectly prepared. Good ribs with chicken and sides of coleslaw & baked potato. Took less than 15 minutes from time of placing order to receiving the meal. Extra sauces on table for ribs and chicken & really like the selection. Nothing went to waste as the food tasted good. Service could have been a little more attentive as had to wait for drink refills until almost done eating. read more

I haven't had Smokey Bones in years and stopped in for a late dinner. I will definitely be back when I'm in the mood for barbecue! We ordered the Pitmaster Selection, which was more than enough for the two of us to share. Both the BBQ Chicken and the St. Louis ribs were fall off the bone and tender, but the pulled pork was very dry. My favorite item was the BBQ Chicken. We ordered mashed potatoes and fries as our sides. The mashed potatoes were creamy but salty and the fries were a little soggy. read more

8:30 pm Thursday. Walked in and approached the hostess station. Hostess stared at me and said not a word. So I stared right back at her. Finally she says "just one"? Takes me to a table. Sitting here alone for 10 minutes. Two other tables of 4 each. 4 waitresses on the floor chit chatting. No one came by to offer a beverage. -We came through on a Saturday afternoon, about 3pm. It was the opposite of crowded- we were immediately seated, though it was odd that with the abundance of empty tables, even by section, we were placed right next to other full tables, making it a little awkward. When I first went in, I used the restroom where 2 of the toilets were clogged. After I used the toilet, i washed my hands and saw someone walk by me without washing and when I followed them out, they walked straight into the kitchens. Yes-an employee. My husband and I wanted something that wasn't fried fast food, and this was definitely better than choosing a mcdonald's or burger king. We ordered the pork belly sticks and the shareable plate. Everything was good. I enjoyed it all without the extra sauces, and my husband sampled the sauces, determining his favorites per meat. I also had a well made margarita (no complaints there!). Our waitress was kind. Overall- i enjoyed it (other than the employee not seeming to wash up) but my husband thought it was just alright. He said he would try a sandwich here next time. We would return if it meant skipping fried fast food. read more

Amanda was a great server, and we loved our visit! The brisket grilled cheese is always great, and my dad likes the wings.

Our host, Kenzie, was extremely polite, not to mention she was a great help in offering a broad selection of foods, despite our kids' picky pallet. This friendly place definitely sounds like a great regular for the family! Thank you so much for the amazing service! read more

I wasn't sure if I wanted to dine here, as there were a couple recent poor reviews. Fortunately, my experience was very positive. An okay bbq joint in my opinion, decent food and good service but I've had better elsewhere so I only dine there occasionally.

First time here food and server/Desiree had a wonderful experience Had the ribs lunch special-meat fell off the bone -sides especially good Desiree was great friendly and helped navigate the food as well as the drinks menu- So on a second visit can only say I'd give it 3 Barf bags Had same meal - fried pickle's interesting-needed to be drained before plated ,ribs looked and tasted like reheated leftover from the night before , So tough I should have asked for a blow torch-broccoli was tasty but mushy , Only decent part of the meal was the salad ! Pulled pork was tasteless-needed to pour half the bottle of BBQ sauce to give it sone flavor If you are looking for price over quality, mediocre food but great service This might do I left most of my lunch -so headed fof the nearest fast food restaurant read more

Went to Smokey Bones with my mom to dine for her birthday. The food was super delicious. I got the rib special for $19.99 that came with ribs and two sides. I chose baked beans and a baked potato and it came with a slice of garlic bread yum. My strawberry lemonade was on point. My mom got salmon with broccoli and potato wedges and she was satisfied. The only thing that we weren't satisfied with was the piña colada that I asked them to make for my mom. The piña colada was not on the menu, but our server said that the bartender could make it. Upon arrival, I could tell just from appearance the piña colada was not going to be good. My mom is not one to complain so she waited until two days later to tell me that she really didn't like the piña colada. When the piña colada arrived to the table, it was already starting to break apart, and it was garnished with a lime, which kind of threw me off, because typically piña colada's are garnished with pineapple and cherry. I appreciate the effort, but for what was delivered to the table I would've much rather them say they can't make it. Other than that the service was pretty good. I also ordered some wings to go, traveled an hour with them and they were still in good condition. The wings had the right amount of sauce cooked to the right texture, super satisfied. I would recommend Smokey bones, but stick to the menu items. read more

Went out for our anniversary dinner, arrived around 4:30pm. We were seated immediately. Our waitress was very friendly and helpful. My wife's dinner was good but it's hard to mess up a chicken sandwich. My dinner was not so good. BBQ baked beans were cold, baked potato was good, my baby back ribs were awful. They were very fatty and only a small amount of meat. I always looked forward to Smokey Bones and their ribs, but this is the first time I was very disappointed.
