Been going to Mark's since I was in middle school. It will always be my go to cheesesteak location in Kutztown. Corn fritters also an amazing side. Hours are a little light in the summer. I'd like to say they were very nice and cheerful today when we ordered pick up on 4 Lg. cold sandwiches ! The guy on phone was clear with questions about the order and very nice, gave est.time for pick up which was 10-15 mins and the cost which was $52.00 total ! When we went in to get it the man was nice helpful and fast place looked clean and taken care of ! Old school place in a nice little eastern Penna college town. It's "Kootzville," not "Cutsville," BTW. But I may still just keep calling it Cutsville because I am from Connecticut and not local. I got the chicken steak grinder--- it was good!!-- and also a side of their Dutch fries which were also good. Good is the key adjective here- nothing I got in terms of food was great and nothing was bad. The staff was remarkably friendly and the price for the food was very respectable. It's worth stopping by just for a milkshake. The place doesn't look like much from the outside but my food was really good. I had a turkey club with mac and cheese bites. Mark's is a legendary Ktown staple. LCS with the Std sauce/onions/pickles. Don't mess with a classic. Philly blah blah blah gino's blah blah blah pats and a hundred other better philly shops, who cares, I'll take a Marks. Sometimes I do hit them with just a touch of salt and dash of extra sauce ordered on the side. Mozzarella fries and fried mushrooms are classics too. Again on the mozz fries sometimes give em a dash of salt but that is a personal thing and perfectly fine. Not everything on the menu is stand out, but there is plenty that is... I've been to Mark's a couple times with my girlfriend (she's from Kutztown), and I've never been let down. It's a nice little restaurant with a local feel, and according to their signs, they've been around for ever. When you walk in, the griddle's right there, and the majority of the seating is in the back. I've always gotten cheesesteaks here, mostly because that's why we go. If you get a standard cheesesteak, it will come with marinara sauce on it (I've been told that's standard in this area). I stick to plain steak and cheese, but people definitely love them with sauce as well. The buffalo chicken cheesesteaks are really good as well. Their fries are excellent, as are their corn nuggets, something I never heard of before going here. Definitely have them with maple syrup. If you're in Kutztown and are in the mood for a cheesesteak, there's nowhere better to stop. read more

Mark's is as good as it gets anywhere. Education time. First, to the critic: it was NOT at all like pizza sauce (one taste and you can tell). It's their homemade Philly sauce that ALL Pennsylvania cheesesteak shops pride themselves on cooking up. Without the sauce, it's not a Philly sub. Non-Pennsylvanians can't get them, although you can order authentic sauces online to make your own. Also, the national chains don't prepare the steak properly. You must shave the steak paper thin or it's just a steak on a bun. If you'd have peered over the counter, you'd have seen the meticulous labor-intensive care in preparation. The only variations is that Philadelphia shops squeeze on Cheez Whiz (yuck!) while the rest of the state melts mozzarella on it. Everything else at Marks is great, too, an institution for at least 50 years. read more

Ah, yes. Mark's. The best cheesesteak in town, as many a Golden Bear alumni can attest. And in this reviewer's opinion, this part of the state. And yes, Philly's only about 70 miles away from Kutztown. There's not much to say about Mark's that hasn't already been said in other reviews here. The food is very reasonably priced (the $7.50 combo meals are unbeatable), portions are generous, and service is quick. I like Jerm's remark from a previous review: the place has that authentic, small town feel to it, fitting right in with the rest of Main Street's wonderful Ma and Pa shops. Additionally, Mark's implements a loyalty program: for every $10.00 spent, you are given a red "point" card, and for every ten you collect, you are awarded with a complimentary combo meal. Overall, it's a wonderful little sandwich shop. My recommendations: either the standard sauce, onion and pickle cheesesteak with provolone, the Italian sandwich, or the bacon jack steak. read more
