Philadelphia Cheesesteak Adventure

Different cheesesteak #1076 in the last five years. I felt like it was 1958 and we were celebrating an Allentown HS win over our rival HS in basketball. At the recommendation of the young man behind the counter I got the Italian Cheesesteak. 4 sizes, I got the biggest, 11". This was a big boy cheesesteak. A lot of meat. I wish the cheese and peppers were mixed in the meat better. It was a little cumbersome to eat.

Best cheesesteak in the Lehigh Valley. The meat used here is grass fed beef from Australia, not the chemical and steroid filled products commonly used at other restaurants. Nothing better than an iced mug, the best quality cheesesteak and some homemade desserts. Second to none. I highly recommend.

We were traveling from Virginia and stopped here based on all the reviews raving about the philly steaks. Not sure what people around here consider 5 star, but it was a total let down. The service was slow, the place was a bit run down, and the cashier forgot we were sitting at the counter. Then the philly steak- if you can even call it that- was the worst I've ever had. And I've had some bad ones! I'd have given it 1 star but the cheese saved it. I won't be returning here on my next trip, that's for sure.

Still the absolute BEST place for a cheesesteak in Allentown! I'd argue it is better than anything from Philly.

Quality was on point and the prices were really reasonable. Staff was working hard, but still really friendly and efficient. Definitely a must try! Unfortunately, there was a strong cold draft at floor level, leaving our feet uncomfortably cold throughout the meal. The hostess was sweet and greeted us with a smile. The food service was unremarkable. Our waiter was not particularly friendly nor personable. The drinks were a weak start. The red sangria was poor. The bourbon cocktail was an odd mix of bourbon, apple cider, and other elements--an awkward, Frankenstein-style whiskey sour that simply didn't work. Worst of all, both drinks were served in thin plastic cups, which immediately cheapened the entire experience. I ordered the falafel sandwich and specifically requested a toasted bun. It arrived not just room temperature, but cold. I sent it back, and it returned burning hot... the bottom soggy... literally too hot to pick up... with no browning or color change, clearly microwaved. Microwaving is not toasting. At that point, the sandwich was inedible. I removed the bun entirely and ate just the falafel, which was dry and largely tasteless. At this point I knew coming back to this restaurant was a mistake. Food timing was another issue. The dishes took roughly 45 minutes to arrive after the drinks, possibly longer. We were all getting annoyed and what started out well when we first walked in turned negative. I wasn't impressed on my first visit years ago... and this second visit confirmed it. Between the poor drinks, cheap plastic cups, ridiculously long wait (with no explanation nor apology), and careless food execution, there's no reason to return.

I haven't been here in close to a decade, so I was way overdo for a Wert's cheeseburger. The burger is stuffed with mushrooms and onions, and then topped with Velveeta cheese. It's absolutely amazing! There was so much flavor to the burger, I didn't need to add any sauce. My buddy ordered Nikki's bacon bleu cheeseburger. The broiled burger is topped with bacon, bleu cheese dressing, lettuce, and tomato. He said it was one of the best burgers he ever had. We also ordered a crock of French onion soup and split the famous fries. The fries are topped with Cajun seasoning, crab meat, and homemade cheese sauce. Good, but nothing to write home about. Service was stupendous! We were greeted with a warm welcome as soon as we walked through the door, our server was attentive, and the entire staff made us feel like family. My girlfriend, 11-year-old son and I came in for dinner on a Sunday after skiing in the Poconos all day. Parking can be tricky but we lucked out with street parking right around the corner. Overall it was just a very average experience. Nothing terrible but nothing that inspires us to come back a second time. My girlfriend and I are big beer nerds and were looking forward to the beer. We tried the Red Ale Eddy (good) and the Winter Dreamz (very good). I might have bought a 4 or 6 pack of this one to bring home with us, but their to go fridge for beers was completely empty. For food, we both got a smashburger, hers with a side salad and mine with house-cut fries. I thought the fries were good but the smashburger was incredibly disappointing. Dry and tasteless. My son got the margherita pizza and said it was ok. The section of tables at the front seemed to be shortstaffed as the tables around us remained unbussed for our entire time there. Nothing like staring at a table full of messy dishes to set the mood. It took awhile to get the waters we asked for and to flag our waitress down to ask for a second drink. Overall we would probably come back if there weren't any other options, but would prefer to try someplace else first.

It's open Wednesday through Saturday from 4:00 PM to 2:00 AM and Sunday from 4:00 PM to 12:00 AM. My friend and I made our first visit early Friday evening. The service was good, and the food more than lived up to expectations. We started with tender, well-seasoned beef skewers, crispy buffalo wings over blue cheese, and perfectly cooked roasted cauliflower paired with a tasty tzatziki sauce and pickled onion. For my entree, I ordered the maple-glazed short rib. It was incredibly tender, practically melting in my mouth, and came with creamy sweet potato puree and roasted shallots. My friend ordered the rich, deeply flavorful bolognese. Although she received the small plate portion rather than the entree, it wasn't a major issue as we had more than enough food. There are still many items on the menu I'd like to try, and after such a strong first visit, I'll most certainly be back.
