    Wert's Famous Fries

Wert's Cafe is a family owned and operated restaurant that is known for their signature burgers. They are located on N 18th St. in Allentown, and open Mon - Fri 11AM - 8PM. I haven't been here in close to a decade, so I was way overdo for a Wert's cheeseburger. The burger is stuffed with mushrooms and onions, and then topped with Velveeta cheese. It's absolutely amazing! There was so much flavor to the burger, I didn't need to add any sauce. My buddy ordered Nikki's bacon bleu cheeseburger. The broiled burger is topped with bacon, bleu cheese dressing, lettuce, and tomato. He said it was one of the best burgers he ever had. We also ordered a crock of French onion soup and split the famous fries. The fries are topped with Cajun seasoning, crab meat, and homemade cheese sauce. Good, but nothing to write home about. Service was stupendous! We were greeted with a warm welcome as soon as we walked through the door, our server was attentive, and the entire staff made us feel like family. Pickup is available, but there is no delivery. French Onion Soup - 7.4 Wert's Famous Fries - 7.4 Wert's Cheeseburger - 8.6 Food - 7.8 Service - 8.5 Value - 8.2 Restaurant score - 82

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Love the familial environment here and the history behind this restaurant.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Feel like you're eating at home with how everyone is so welcoming.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The onion rings are a must have & the mozzarella sticks are perfectly crispy + 10/10 cheese pull. Burgers are juicy and tasty!

We got to try some of their soups, French Onion, Southwestern Chicken, and Cheeseburger Soup, which was our favorite. They have unique way of preparing onion rings, which is thin and stringy. Plateful of thin onion rings were tasty. We got to try quite a few of their meals, roasted chicken breast with rotisserie seasoning, filet mignon, jumbo lump crab, haddock, burger, and tuna fish sandwich. Also got to try some of their desserts, such as carrot cake.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Step into Wert's Cafe and you're stepping into the 1970's. Decor hasn't been changed in years.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Service was good and the food was average diner food. Not worth going out of your way or waiting 30 minutes for a seat.

This place is a gem in Allentown, PA! The place is over 70 years old! When you walk in you can tell the owner lane love what they do. It was clean and the service was very professional and friendly. The food was very good and tasty. I can see why they won awards for their great burgers. I would definitely be back if I am in the areas again. Highly recommend it!

First time here and won't be my last, food was amazing (strawberry soup yum) service was excellent. Hometown diner basically where they treat you like family. It was like going to grandmas they offered us coffee and dessert afterwards and kept making sure for sure we didn't want dessert.

Food & service are excellent . When there is a lot wait, though it's rarely too long, it is worth it.

Unfortunately, there was a strong cold draft at floor level, leaving our feet uncomfortably cold throughout the meal. The hostess was sweet and greeted us with a smile. The food service was unremarkable. Our waiter was not particularly friendly nor personable. The drinks were a weak start. The red sangria was poor. The bourbon cocktail was an odd mix of bourbon, apple cider, and other elements--an awkward, Frankenstein-style whiskey sour that simply didn't work. Worst of all, both drinks were served in thin plastic cups, which immediately cheapened the entire experience. I ordered the falafel sandwich and specifically requested a toasted bun. It arrived not just room temperature, but cold. I sent it back, and it returned burning hot... the bottom soggy... literally too hot to pick up... with no browning or color change, clearly microwaved. Microwaving is not toasting. At that point, the sandwich was inedible. I removed the bun entirely and ate just the falafel, which was dry and largely tasteless. At this point I knew coming back to this restaurant was a mistake. Food timing was another issue. The dishes took roughly 45 minutes to arrive after the drinks, possibly longer. We were all getting annoyed and what started out well when we first walked in turned negative. I wasn't impressed on my first visit years ago... and this second visit confirmed it. Between the poor drinks, cheap plastic cups, ridiculously long wait (with no explanation nor apology), and careless food execution, there's no reason to return.

We walked in and even though it was busy we were taken to our reserved table immediately. The place is big with nice decor and ambiance, and the tables are spaced out enough that it keeps the area around you quiet enough to be able to hold a conversation comfortably with the people at your table. Our server was with us quickly and took our drink orders. All of the cocktails were delicious and several of us got a second round! We got the bao buns, chicken skewers, and birria poutine to start and they were all extremely delicious. The poutine tasted more like molé though so I personally wouldn't call it birria, and the cheese was a molten cheddar-like kind and not cheese curds. It was delicious though so no one complained! I got the curry and subbed tofu for shrimp. It was a little bland and I honestly wish there would've been a bit more of the curry itself (there was so much rice) and some more salt/seasoning, but it was fine. I'd give it a 7.5/10. My coworkers all enjoyed their own dishes (especially the rigatoni) and they kept raving about them throughout the whole meal. Our server was attentive and kept the table clean and our water bottles topped up. I definitely recommend checking it out! We're keeping it i. our list for next time we're in town :)

It's open Wednesday through Saturday from 4:00 PM to 2:00 AM and Sunday from 4:00 PM to 12:00 AM. My friend and I made our first visit early Friday evening. The service was good, and the food more than lived up to expectations. We started with tender, well-seasoned beef skewers, crispy buffalo wings over blue cheese, and perfectly cooked roasted cauliflower paired with a tasty tzatziki sauce and pickled onion. For my entree, I ordered the maple-glazed short rib. It was incredibly tender, practically melting in my mouth, and came with creamy sweet potato puree and roasted shallots. My friend ordered the rich, deeply flavorful bolognese. Although she received the small plate portion rather than the entree, it wasn't a major issue as we had more than enough food.
