We've been coming here for about 35 years. Food is always good but recently the potatoes have been a little hard, not cooked quite long enough! That would be my only complaint. Otherwise everything else is always good! read more

This cafeteria style rotisserie chicken eatery is a must stop spot. When you arrive you are greeted by a 12ft chicken statue - so you know you're in the right place. Then while standing in line, you can watch the wall of chickens work their way through the carousel. For $12 you get 1/2 chicken, a potato side which I got the homemade filling, and the salad bar. The salad bar is a large selection of fresh vegetables, a variety of dressings, and a choice of iceberg lettuce or a spring mix. The food is fresh, home cooked flavor on a budget. In the summer months they have an ice cream window and mini golf for $5 per person. Any fan of the rotisserie style chicken really needs to check this spot out! read more

We got take out while on a quick trip and regretted it. I'm not sure how this place has so many good reviews. The service was poor on the phone and in person and the food was awful. Riblets that tasted more fake than McDonalds mc rib. Mac and cheese bite things that were disgusting. Grilled chicken sandwich that tasted more fake than Wendy's. The only barely edible food was the baked potato. We were excited for some BBQ, but this was just not it at all. read more

The positive: This place is clean and well run from what I saw and experienced. The bathrooms were clean. The workers were friendly. The food: large 1/2 chicken platter with potato filling (mashed taters), and the salad bar. Had the potato salad and that was okay. The rolls are your average mass produced bleh. The salad bar wasn't anything special and nothing to complain about. The chicken was small for a half chicken. I actually questioned if my chicken was done cooking as it was rather tough. The other chicken was ordered, and I got to sample it. It was dry and overcooked. We both got our chicken at the same time as they were out at the time we were in line. Weird to have such a difference. The chicken could have used more seasoning. Slightly seasoned? The potatoes were okay. No complaints. The gravy had a strong chicken flavor and while I had no issue the other member of the party didn't care for it so much. They also wished they had more gravy to offset the chicken's dryness. The coconut cream pie was less of a custard and more of a solid mass and rather bland. It was tossed without being finished. Overall, I would not make a special trip to come back. You can make better chicken than what we had, however, this is a nice and clean place, so if we're in the area and need a meal, I would consider just for that and the fact the prices are reasonable. Reminder the chicken was dry and tough. The pie was horrible. The salad bar was average. Place is clean and the process they use works. The prices were reasonable. read more

Be Aware: PORTION SIZES on 1/2 Chickens in same order VARY by 1/2 # or MORE! 1st PORTION had 1/2 oz (2T) chicken leg . 2nd PORTION had 2- 3 oz chicken leg. Both White and Dark chicken meat very dry. Recommended by Food Service friend and drove over 1/2 hour. Doubt we will return. read more

Going there for years. Chickens have gotten smaller. Sadly recently serving them more dried out. If it looks like it's dried out when they go to give it to you , ask for a different one! Stuffing and gravy great! Service OK. Try it. read more

The food is so good! Lots to choose from on the menu! Quality and quantity of food is top notch. Service is great. It's sit down after going through a cafeteria style line. Prices are very reasonable and affordable. Like to eat here often. It's a bit of a drive from my house, but it's worth it! read more

The staff were incredibly rude and felt like a soup kitchen rather than a restaurant. Very long wait and disorganized. Grab a rotisserie chicken from your local grocery store and save yourself the disrespect from this place. read more

To begin with, if I were just reviewing dinner this would be lower, but Kaufman's has fantastic mini-golf and ice cream and those aspects make this a great place to take families. The facilities are very well maintained and the staff is friendly and helpful. Kauffman's is a cafeteria style restaurant. It's not BBQ no matter what they advertise as there isn't a Pit Master and their aren't any of the traditional BBQ sauces or side dishes prepared in the style of a BBQ restaurant. It is locally famous for their rotisserie chicken and deservedly so. It is excellent. However, the rest of the menu is less successful. Most of the other dishes are not freshly made but are from frozen and/or prepackaged items. The hamburgers my niece and nephew ordered were awful and were clearly from frozen grocery store bought patties on store bought buns (and not good ones either). The salad bar is ok, but is rather basic without exceptional quality in the produce. Overall I would skip dinner here but come for the mini-golf and the ice cream. Their milkshakes and sundaes are fabulous. read more

Very busy place with cafeteria style service. Line moved quickly and everyone was very friendly. The food however was disappointing. Chicken was very tough and dry. Salad bar was good with a lot of options for everyone. Baked potatoes were woefully undercooked and hard. read more

10/10. Chicken is delicious. Baked potatoes are outstanding. Prices are great. Service is quick. Kitchen is visible from the ordering line and looks very clean. Dining room area is clean, brightly lit, and not too loud. Overall, those who know, know: Kauffman's isn't fancy or pretentious: it's just good, hearty, down home food. read more

Service and food were awesome as always. Even got a chance to play miniature golf. The golf course was very clean.

Best place to have a delicious meal... HANDS DOWN... the ice cream parlor located in the same structure serves the best ice cream which is soft served... you can not go wrong with the all-you-can-eat salad bar, and burn off some well-earned calories at their mini golf field. Where else can you get a fresh rotisserie chicken half with a hot side and a trip to a salad bar with unlimited bread, rolls and butter for under $11.00??? You're absolutely right.....Kaufman's Bar-B-Que Restaurant.... Step right up folks....bring your family, friends and neighbors!! I look forward to an evening of moist chicken, a perfect baked potato, a well built salad with Thousand Island dressing and fresh bread and butter. The staff is very accommodating and friendly. They really should be commended as they are a big part of why I keep on returning to this wonderful restaurant. One last note, remember when your parents cooked hotdogs, burgers, chicken, steaks and other meats on a barbecue grill?? It was a wonderful time for all and the food tasted better?? This is just like the above, except the chicken is cooked indoors in a rotisserie style cooked with an open flame. Sorry to disappoint those who were expecting traditional Southern 'Que!! Pennsylvania has great Barbecue and you'll definitely be able to get your fixings here!! read more

First off, we stopped here only because of the supposed mask sign on the door. As someone who cannot wear a face covering, it is good to know that there are establishments that allow for personal responsibility and will not hassle or discriminate against a segment of society. Second, this place is pretty much in the middle of nowhere. Third, it appears to be the place to go. They have an ice-cream window. And a window for food takeout. Past that you enter a cafe line and order your food. If you have never been here, stop before you enter and read the menu board. Otherwise, you may feel rushed as others have said. There is a decent salad and bread bar that comes with dinners. It's not one of those 100 item ones like in Lancaster, but everything was fresh and clean. The chicken was as others have said. Decent. Not overly seasoned. And the white meat was moist. The burgers were decent, Not a $10 bar burger, but much better then a fast-food chain and only $4.25 Fries were ok. The BBQ sandwich was said to be decent. The caramel cheesecake was excellent! If we lived closer, I am sure we would eat here more. With the exception of the great cheesecake, the other items were decent. No "wow's" but a good solid meal. Fresh. Fast. Reasonable priced. Clean. It's obvious they care. read more

Food always excellent. But their service has really gone down the toilet. Won't be going back.

Delish, I've had their Chicken BBQ Dinners many times for Fire Truck Crew, Fire Companies & Boy Scout Troops. Well worth it & Love going here for mini Christmas parties & meeting a few couples. I have previously tried the Hot Roast Beef Sandwich w/ Filling & the perfect amount of gravy over all. Tonight the six of us All got the Hot Chicken Sandwiches w/ filling or fries w/ again, the perfect amount of gravy over all! A bit far from us in Kutztown, but perfect for an early dinner before our night of card playing with friends! I will definitely be back with or without my man! But will definitely try for another date night with him! read more

Attention Biker community : a female friend of mine just posted this. Just went by Kauffman BBQ in Bethel where the owner was blowing huge amounts of grass into the road. Nothing beats Kauffman's BBQ! After hearing so much about their amazing chicken it became a quest to seek them out; it was well worth the adventure. When you walk in you're greeted with view of the rotisseries busily turning chicken after chicken. The menu is large and offers more than just chicken (sandwiches, steak, seafood). I ordered the 1/2 chicken meal with a baked potato. The chicken was roasted to perfection and has amazing flavor and matching juiciness. The 1/2 order is large enough to share, or enough to tackle alone if you're up for it. The potato was tasty and paired well with the chicken. The kids portions are favorable and were more than enough for our children. The pricing is fair and our family of four was fed for around $30+ which adds more to the value of our experience. We will be back! read more

Kauffman's - Kauffman's BBQ, just off the beaten path and worth the trip! - Barbeque Near Me - Bethel, Pennsylvania

Was in town with a friend of mine and we Yelped this location out while on the road. Nice place, heard it was the best place to get chicken in town so we figured we would give it shot. They have two options here, take out or dine in and its setup as follows; Once you walk in there is a dining area through a small corridor in the back right(if you entered via main entrance/parking lot) and before the corridor there is a window booth for take out orders to the left of said corridor. IF you go in and there is a line make sure you ask if its for the dine in or take-out line because the two get easily intermingled and you will find yourself waiting on the wrong line. The staff is very friendly(as is everyone around here!) and the food was good, was it the best rotisserie chicken I have ever had? No, but it was still very good nonetheless! The sides were fresh and delicious, I had the half chicken with coleslaw, frickles and a birch beer, which is a must-drink according to the locals. The chicken was fresh and I believe raised locally, which made for a great meal. This place is great for families and groups, the prices are very good and there is plenty to do for children/families such as the miniature golf, ice cream shoppe and pond near the outdoor eating area. The grounds are clean and well kept as well. read more

I have lived in the area for years and heard about this place. Sadly each time I gave it thought it was on their day off or off-season. FINALLY I can say we ate at Kauffman's BBQ Chicken!!! We visited this restaurant two times in one week because it was that great!! The workers recognized us our second visit and thanked us for returning. If you are looking for a QUICK homemade meal that you leave with your belly full this is the place to visit!! The workers did great under COVID guidelines. The place was very clean, seating was staggered and everyone was very pleasant. Highly recommend!!! read more

Webster's - Barbeque: 1.a meal or gathering at which meat, fish, or other food is cooked out of doors on a rack over an open fire or on a portable grill. synonyms: meal cooked outdoors · ... roast · cookout · Don't believe the "NOT BBQ" comments(Or Webster's - ha!). Their "disappointment" is due to improper dining preparation. Kaufman's has been making BBQ chicken since 1956, often for huge gatherings, long before anyone in the Pennsylvania Dutch Country ever heard of rubs and BBQ Joints. Though, tomato sauce certainly was done, it was mostly at home, or on a picnic, with Kraft or Wishbone or other bottled-type, or now, some of the "joints"(Recently, I use Sweet Baby Ray's, straight, myself - much like I used to "doctor-up". Now, I don't have to - yay.). Just last week, made some excellent chicken BBQ, in my oven - very good. Still, tomato BBQ rarely seen, at our many, many roadside BBQ's. No "joints" at all, prior to about 20 years ago, here. This is PA BBQ chicken, at it's finest(Most often with a vinegar/butter baste, or even spray from a garden-type, pump-up sprayer!). The World's Largest Sertoma Chicken BBQ, Long's park, Lancaster, does this beautifully, every spring. No, there is no tomato sauce, no hot spices(OK, some black pepper.), and, yes, at Kaufman's Restaurant, it is done on rotisserie machines, indoors, and is a bit different, yet. Still, if you hire them for your event, may be done on an outdoor grill. But, BBQ it is - and it's excellent. The potato filling, with gravy is excellent, the salad bar, small, but fresh and good. The "place", is very nice, very "farm-dutchey", very, very good. Many other things on the menu, but the chicken is where it's at... Hint: When you go to someplace "different", be prepared for...... different! Don't tell yourself you know exactly what you are going to get because you will too often be disappointed, which is sad. 28 miles from my house and 58 minutes of driving. It's always worth it, and it's delightful - and, yes, after 30+ years, I know exactly what I will get... Kaufman's Bar-b-que chicken. Yum in my tum! Yours, too. read more

I would have given it four stars, but the sandwiches we got were on store bought hotdog buns. Cool place. Giant Chicken. Miniature golf. Outdoor picnic tables. Lake near by. Good place to watch gliders being carried up from the airport on the north side of 78 to the blue sky's above. Easy on/off of 78. Food was decent and a step above what I imagine a small down BBQ joint would be. Tasty meats and normal to good French fries. They get points for the yam sticks which are like motzarella sticks, but filled with puréed yam instead; a little on the sweet side for me, but my Dad liked them. White birch beer was the drink of choice and it was basically clear birch beer. Check out the pics. read more

The best part of this place is the large chicken statue outside. NOTE: THIS IS NOT A BBQ PLACE. THIS IS A JUST A DINER. Don't be fooled by the name. 1. It's not BBQ. It's roasted chicken. You can get comparable rotisserie chicken from the to-go display at most grocery stores. Doesn't taste like it was made on a grill. (If it was, they need more charcoal.) The BBQ sauce is packaged. I get much better tasting chicken from my local firehouse BBQs. 2. Other than chicken, your other options are all common, bland diner dishes. Breaded this, fried that, baked this, roasted that, etc. Nothing interesting. 3. They don't take credit cards. 4. You wait in line, like in a cafeteria, and they make you feel rushed as you go through. 5. Sides are expensive and taste like they were purchased from a grocery store or a food service company. 6. If you want to eat a lot of bland food, this is the place for you. 7. I could be wrong, but most of their food doesn't taste homemade. 8. Salad bar is uninspiring. 9. Place was busy but I assume that's only because there isn't a lot of competition in the vicinity. 10. I honestly don't understand the hype. I can get the same type of food at just about any diner in Central, PA. 11. This is the type of place where you see lots of people shoveling food into their faces and not even paying attention to the flavor. Son's meatball sub was sad. My soup was boring. Chicken dinner was meh. Even the gravy didn't taste homemade. Unless you want bland and uninspired food, keep driving. read more

An amazing gem in the middle of nowhere. Not a single thing out of place. Good prices, everything was fresh and hot and yummy! Salad bar was constantly filled and clean. The entire place is very clean and well kept, including the bathrooms. It's a cafeteria style line but incredibly fast and efficient. Stopped here after I could not stomach another fast food meal on our road trip. The chicken is good, but would be much improved with the option to put BBQ sauce on it. The restaurant was meticulously clean and the bathrooms are big and have easy changing stations. Don't leave without getting a piece of pie. The crust is really quite good no matter the type of pie you choose. Its a cash only joint, but they have an ATM on the take out side if you need some cash. If you are on 78 near exit 15 and hungry its worth the stop. read more

Visited Kauffman's BBQ based solely on word-of-mouth. It turned out to be pretty nice. it sits on the edge of a family farm, where there is a restaurant, a take out ice cream section, and 18 hole mini-golf course and a pavilion rental area. There was a large lake closeby, as well as a huge chicken statue. We ordered the BBQ Chicken platter for aprx 7.00, one piece of chicken, mashed potatoes or fries, cole slaw or pepper cabbage, and a roll. Since it was a hot summer day, we got some ice cream, a three scoop dish of mint chocolate chip for 3.50. I'd stop back if I was in the area. read more
