Couple of friends including me decided to come here and it was not a bad idea. I got the smokehouse burger with french fries on the side. Overall everything was good but the sauce they used was bad. The sauce did not go with the burger at all. The meat was well cooked just as what I asked for. It was sort of like a romantic restaurant. Make sure you guys call for reservations couple days before or else they are going to be booked. We called before coming in and thank god they had a seat available for three. Classy restaurant with a lot of outside seating in the back and the front. Will return. read more

The meatloaf is outstanding! Nice atmosphere. Solid wine list and great service. Prime rib is worth skipping.

Wonderful food! Had beef stroganoff and it was so rich and creamy. The ambiance was nice and our server was ver y good!

Zero stars. This was one of the worst meals I've ever had. A thin, flat, under seasoned and over priced ribeye, served with overcooked brussel sprouts that taste the way new Jordans smell and mashed under-seasoned potatoes. I'm not sure how this place is still in business but the people who eat here must have no tastebuds. Awful. 0/10 would not recommend to ANYONE. Server was very nice, food was trash. Food was 3.5 stars but service was 2.5 stars. We had a party of 8 for birthday celebration with a reservation at 5pm. Unfortunately with a big group, people tend to run late so I called to push back the time to 5:15. The hostess informed me on the phone that there will be another party after us at 7:45 needing our table, and I told her that it would be no problem as we will definitely be done by then. Yes, the whole group arrived around 5:30, and our waitress was already in a bad mood. She asked for our drink order as we were just getting seated and when we said just water first, she pitched that we were already running behind since we were late so she will go over the specials as we were late. She must have mentioned we were late 4-5 times before we had to tell her that we will be long gone before the next reservation at 7:45pm. Sometimes even if patrons arrive on time, they might not order right away, and if diners are late, then you can let them know that there will be another party after them ONCE. Not dampen the birthday celebration nagging to all the guests that we had to rush. We had to assure her that we will leave before the next group before she stopped rushing us and the service was good after that. Starter: Love the cornbread in the skillet served with honey and butter. It had a slight crunchiness on the outside with a soft moist interior sprinkled with corn. Main: Portions are big. The Chicken Pot Pie is huge! Enough for 2 adults to share. Definitely try the chicken pot pie. Nice flakey crust and creamy fillings. Baby back ribs were not fall off the bone as promised, but the flavor was good. The ribs seem like they were too lean and didn't have enough meat on there. Fish of the day was an orange roughy served fried with some rice and carrots. The pairings weren't the best, but the fish was tasty without being over-battered served with a yummy marmalade tartar sauce. Roasted chicken was huge but I didn't try it. Overall, the food was delicious, and the service warmed up after the initial nagging. We also kept our promise and vacated our seats at 6:40pm with an hour till the next party arrives (if they are not running behind!) Free valet parking in the back of the building. read more

Always delicious food and a lovely setting. They have a good menu with small bites and full dinners. And always excellent cocktails.

This is probably the first and only time I will be coming here for dining mostly because it's a bit pricey for my shallow pockets. The atmosphere is great! It was warm and welcoming. We were all seated in the back patio that had those nice heaters. I had the opportunity to try a few drinks that I wish I remembered the names of. The vodka sour apple drink, smokey citrus tequila drink, and the drink that had berries in it were all delicious. Seriously, the smokey drink was excellent. Bar: 5/5. I had the salad, filet mignon, corn bread and the bread pudding. The salad was just an ordinary salad, but the croutons that were in it made my night. I had a medium rare filet mignon and it was cooked well, but nothing special. THE CORN BREAD WAS THE BEST. I enjoyed eating the bread pudding as well. Food: 4/5 The wait staff at Smitty's were all amazing. I have never been treated so well by all the wait staff. I know it's customer service, but it was the best customer service I have ever seen. I drank a little too much and I asked one of the waitresses to give me something that could help me. She said she would bring a coffee out for me. I really appreciated that. Service: 5/5 read more

Great food and service!definitely a place to come back to in the future. Staff from hosts to valet are all attentive

Maybe it was because I came on the last day of DineLA and they kind of ran out of everything..... Had reservations for dinner at 8:30 and was seated not too long after by the hostess. It took some time for our server to get to us as they were very busy. It gave us enough time to order by the time he came to greet us. What we wanted to order, they ran out of so we all had to choose something else. We were still satisfied with what we ordered. Wish they didn't run out of dessert, all three of us had the chocolate cake lol. I'd probably try to come another time to give the rest of their menu a chance, I've seen reviews of other dishes that sound really tasty. I can't believe I haven't been to Smitty's my entire time in Pasadena. It is seriously low key and unsuspecting from the outside. I've driven past it and never noticed it has outside seating! Inside it's beautifully decorated like a cozier Parkway Grill. Not to compare though, the food here stands on its own. We ordered the crunchy ahi tuna and lobster roll sandwich for starters. Also, we spied a bowl of house-style potato chips and asked for some. The fish of the day sounded good so three of us got the same and the fourth got the house special meatloaf. All the food is expertly prepared and tasted great. Not over-salted, no gimmicks, just really good food. read more

I finally got to try this place after years of passing by every time we come to Lake Avenue. It was my birthday, so they laid out some orchids and note, which was a nice touch. We started off with the big hunk of corn bread. It was a bit on the sweeter side, but since it was warm, it went really well with butter. It has chunks of corn in it. I think I ate the leftovers for several days. I had the salmon salad. The salmon was generously sized and not too dry. They brought us a birthday dessert -- basically a brownie a-la mode with whipped cream, fudge, and SPRINKLES. It was DEVINE. read more

First time ever at Smitty's Grill and was blown away at a most comfortable layout I've seen in a long, long time. Service was great took our drink order right off the bat. Had a neat shot of tequila with beer chaser. The wedge salad was superbly mad and based on a recommendation I luckily got an end piece of their superb prime rib. It was made just right and it was a huge piece and honestly one of the best prime ribs I've had in a very long time. A dinner at Smitty's is a very satisfying evening. read more

We came here 2/7/20 to celebrate 2 birthdays. We were a party of 6 in the back room and we had an absolutely FABULOUS experience. The service could not have been any better! I arrived later than the rest of our group but I entered in the front and it was a bit noisy/loud but fun and festive. The rest of the party arrived from the back and it's MUCH quieter and cozy. Adam was our server and we could not have been more impressed with him. He was so attentive, helpful and efficient. The cocktails, wine and food were all absolutely DELICIOUS! read more

Updated review: Owner Gregg S. invited us back "to make things right." We very much appreciated the gift certificate he gave us and used it tonight. The crab cakes, salad, soup, steaks (etc.), dessert and drinks were wonderful and our server (Evan) couldn't have been more positive or attentive. Thank you for this pleasant experience. Original review: The meatloaf and chicken pot pie were wonderful but I have to strongly object when we're paying such high prices and are largely ignored by our server (Joshua) or when the menu lists only ONE choice of Pinot Noir by the glass for $14 but my bill shows I was charged $23 per glass. His rationale was "We ran out of the kind you ordered but I wanted you to still have Pinot Noir so the bartender poured you a different kind." Are you kidding me? If you ran out of what I ordered, either honor the original price I agreed to or bring it to my attention so I can pick something else. Don't charge me an additional $9 per glass and surprise me when you present the bill. This felt dishonest to me and we'll never be back. read more

We had dinner last night at the restaurant. Greeting good Although they had a very hard time after we arrived with 1 extra person last minute. We apologized & they found us a table in "the garden" patio. Waitress was Kristi who was EXCELLENT, FRIENDLY & PROFESSIONAL. Food was also GREAT! Then the BUGS arrived. We thought it was pepper flecks then they moved! Very to our entire table! Sean the manager came in walking by us until we called him over to let him know. HE DID NOTHING not even apologize! Walked away then came back and said he thought I was joking REALLY! Offered NOTHING, he did apologize then & offered to move us we had already finished our meal. Kristi came over we asked for the check & she asked how everything was so we told her about the bugs etc. she got our bill adjusted like Sean should of done without question! The bug issue AND Sean's non-performance RUINED the entire dinner/evening! We will not be back. Smitty's should reconsider working/ hiring better management. Everyone wants to feel like their hard earned money is being spent well & that they are treated fairly. read more

Smitty got my wife drunk and then put his meat in her mouth...then she asked for more! Normally this would make me very upset....but seeing as how Smitty makes a mean mojito and grilled up the wife's steak just how she likes it.....I'll let it slide. =) Dinner with the wife sans kids is the plan this Sunday night and we're craving steaks. Quick drive to Pasadena and we're seated promptly with no reservations. Classy but fun holiday interior decorations http://static.px.yelp.com/bphoto/-Y3HERqiRV46Sc7M3F1Vvg/l set the mood as I sacrifice non-sobriety to let the wife have some fun. Our excellent waiter Moises brings out the first mojito ($12) which according to the wife contains "no alcohol" Uhoh. I happily do like a fish and gulp my H20 which leads me to the little boys room where the decorations are less classy http://static.px.yelp.com/bphoto/z4hmlyala1vGUvNxVHlY2Q/l but more fun....http://static.px.yelp.com/bphoto/mORi3neUq95p4ymX6-9eLw/l The wife said the ladies room had a naked Burt Reynolds...nice! On to the food...we order the Cheese Bread appetizer ($4) and Petite Filet ($26) medium well for the wife and Ribeye ($28) medium rare for moi with a side of Sautéed Shiitake and Domestic Mushrooms ($6). The steaks arrive blazing fast and the wife's Filet is adorable http://static.px.yelp.com/bphoto/BIX6MKMEe7qq7QravKUReQ/l I wanted to give it a name and take it home...My Ribeye is a generous cut http://static.px.yelp.com/bphoto/hEIDdtX21v_ngB3A6DTiwg/l I think it intimidated the wife and her baby steak. The quality of the meats was excellent and we devoured those suckers like nobodys business. The creamy mashed potatoes paired perfectly with the sauteed mushrooms as well http://static.px.yelp.com/bphoto/KcrqIf2kH7v2aDO82LHXkw/l not to mention the Cheese Bread http://static.px.yelp.com/bphoto/U04bRC_zkbVyI4r-lcM7-w/l which, according to the wife and her second "no alcohol" mojito was "FU*KING DELICIOUS!" Fun vibe, GREAT food and a great table with good friends! that sums up my visit to Smitty's on Monday night. Arrived to an awesome valet - and a sneak peek at an incredible Rolls Royce in the lot - I felt that my car was in great hands (Valet is FREE BTW - so tip big!). We were a few minutes late for our 6:30 reservation - but no shame was put upon us. Asked if we wanted a table or booth - we went for an amazing corner booth next to a window. Our server (forgot her name :-( ) was awesome - brought us a cocktail and bottle of Justin wine and left us alone for a bit (that was a good thing) we ordered the cornbread for an appetizer and it came with the honey in the bear container! For dinner the table went for three HALF SIZE (yes that is right - Smitty's has half sizes) Chicken Pot Pies (it was cold and rainy) and I went for the special - Hanger Steak with Chimichurri. We got a Wedge Salad - CHOPPED!!!! and we all four ate off of it. Price was super reasonable for the 4 of us - and that left us with a bit tip for valet! All in all a magical night - with magical food and service - we'll be back~! read more

I really enjoyed eating here! I shared the chicken pot pie with my husband as an appetizer which was so yummy and I had the ravioli of the day which was really tasty as well! My husband had the prime rib with mashed potatoes and Mac n cheese and he really enjoyed his food as well! I thought the food was great; however, I do wish they served more ravioli since I finished mine quick lol. I also felt like the sides were kind of on the pricey side too. I was hoping that they would have bread similar to the bread they had in Crocodile Cafe but they didn't have any bread unfortunately. Those of you who know and remember the good old Croc know what I mean about that bread! Our waiter, Evan, also gave such great service! He was super friendly and took good care of us! Would definitely love to come back(: PS- Gregg Smith, I hope you would consider bringing Crocodile Cafe back. That restaurant had such amazing food and was definitely a family favorite! If not, I would hope you would bring that amazing fresh homemade bread back in one of your restaurants. That bread was too die for! read more

I was expecting a whole lot more to this place and instead I got a dinner that I really didn't like. This place is small and if you have a really big party it will feel a little bit cramped. If you have at least more than 10 people for your group, I wouldn't see where you would fit in here. We were a party of 7 and our table was suppose to fit about 5 people not 7 so I felt very cramped and not liking it at all. For starters we had the crab cakes and they tasted like a deep fried ball of crab which I didn't really want it to be. The bread was nice and warm and the butter though, was rock hard ! Why would you do that?? My meal was pot roast stroganoff and it had a lot of pieces of just pure fat and no meat on the pot roast pieces. I was very bummed out about that part. I tried my friends meals which was rib eye and that tasted pretty well. The mashed potatoes is ok a little bit plain but not amazing in anyway. To me, everything tasted not that great and not amazing. But I am willing to give it another try and come in on another day to try something else. Maybe there are things on this paper menu that is actually really good. They do have a big wine selection list the only thing is, it is very hard to read, because it is in small 8 point font ! Another thing they should change. read more

03.17.13 - bar rating only. The wifey was gettin' her hair did up at the DryBar a couple doors down. I decided to hike it over to the St. Patty's Day beer gardens at the Pasadena Playhouse for a bit before making it back to Smitty's prior to the wife's release from the hair-chair. Unlike the DryBar, Smitty's bar is the type I'm accustomed to. Set in upscale casual décor, even the Sunday late lunch crowd fashioned themselves in the upscale casual manner. I felt way too underdressed to be here, but the wife & I already agreed of the meeting place. Although its a FULL bar it's only beer on tap is the "1903 Lager" ($6) by Pasadena local brew company, Craftsman http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/smittys-grill-pasadena?userid=U0vzuP_b7vwX8OnLkXaQFQ#OaYVI7OMJD6H4lv4sQjRXw. Before pouring it, she asked if I'd like to make it "green". I declined. The beer was just okay for me & tasted much like Budweiser, "The King of Beers"...hahahaa...evs. As I perused the food menu, I noted some dishes that just made my mouth water... Beer Braised Short Ribs - $30 Idaho Rainbow Trout - $19 ...hand full of burgers that ranged in the $13 - $15 mark Dressed in her yoga pants & Dodger's jersey, the wife also felt underdressed just sitting at the bar. We vowed to come back at a later date & make a dinner visit. Because she was the only bartender at hand, serving patrons at the bar, getting slammed with drink orders & a several green beer mishaps (not her fault), was unfazed, calm & all the while smiling...even when the servers seemed impatient & irritated (HEY! It's not her fault you didn't ask the customers if they wanted their beers green before serving them...) I'm giving Smitty's a 4-star rating. The bartender was "professionalism" at its finest. Dinner update to come in the future. read more

Como se dice... BOMB-ASS MEAT en espanol? Because not even the priciest prostitute could handle the meat this place is packing! Smitty's is one of Pasadena's best steakhouses. In fact, I would say the quality of their steaks is comparable to that of Ruth's Chris and Morton's. They have all your classic steaks done to perfection. With the laid back, classy, dim lighted atmosphere, who can't love this place? Hospitality is the key ingredient for any restaurant and this place has plenty of it. The chef himself came out to serve me my steak and waited for me to taste it. He said he wouldn't be satisfied unless I was. Well.. I was beyond satisfied. I was stimulated and aroused! The soft tone music playing in the background and distant noises coming from the bar had me feeling very cozy and quite social. The people who dine/drink here are regulars and very welcoming. Everyone at the bar seems to be really chatty and you could always drop in on a conversation. The bar has a couple of tv's and there always a game on. Just like any other fancy place, the steaks rarely come with side dishes (they do this so you can spend more money!). Even though the sides come in small portions, they are enough for your meal. I suggest you try their homemade potato chips! They're sooo good. I wonder what kinda potato these guys are using because the chips are HUGE! They kick the Lay's chip's ass! The mashed potatoes and asparagus are a must. They are slightly seasoned and it always goes perfect with your meal. Smitty's boasts a pretty good wine selection as well with a laundry list of options. The decor of the place is contemporary with a old fashioned twist. Lots of nice wooden furniture with plants and standing waterfalls. This place is perfect for a date, birthday or celebration. It's a little upscale but dressing up is not required. There is valet parking in the back alley (shopper's lane) next to all the other surrounding restaurants. But I'm not sure how much it is due to my frugal lifestyle (I park down the street!). Overall... this place is pretty damn good. Since I'm so cheap, the next time I'll go back here is when one of you yelpers treats me! And trust me, if you're buyin I'm get 2 of everything on the menu... with drinks! I patiently await your invitation! read more

What a disappointing dining experience. My wife asked me where I'd like to go for my birthday dinner and I chose Smitty's. We had a good dinner several weeks back on an impromptu visit, so I decided we should go again. We arrived on time and the reservation was honored in a timely manner which was good. We were seated in a booth along the east wall closest to the bar which was also fine. This server checked in, provided drinks and notified us of the specials. This is where the good part ended. The server was rather relentless in getting the dinner order in and I felt rather rushed to make a decision. After three attempts to gain more time to review the menu we ordered the soup of the day which was good. I ordered the ribeye steak my wife ordered the Smitty's grill burger plain with nothing on it... I.e. no mayonnaise (she hates mayo). When the order came out she quickly realized that the burger bun indeed had mayo, so we requested to have it corrected. When the plate returned we began the meal and she took one bite of the burger only to find out that the bottom bun still had mayo - all the kitchen had done was change the top bun. The waiter took the plate away again, stating that they were going to remake the entire burger, which was fine except for the fact that my steak had gotten cold while I was waiting for my wife to get her meal. 10 minutes later when the new burger came out I began eating and encountered one of the most gristly and flavorless ribeye steaks I've ever eaten. I informed the server of this and he did not respond at all. Literally no words were spoken. I pushed the mail aside feeling very disappointed in my choice of restaurant for my birthday dinner. My wife finished part of her hamburger and we decided to cut our losses and call it a night. I have been a big fan of the Smith Brothers restaurants for years having grown up in the Pasadena area. I have eaten at Arroyo Chophouse many times and Parkway grill even more often. Tonight at Smitty's has left me feeling like it will be quite a while if before I'll return to any of them. read more

Smitty's Grill is an interesting combination of upscale dining with home cooking. With dishes like stroganoff, meatloaf and chicken pot pie, it has a really comforting feel. It also has steaks and seafood too- as all of the other Smith Brother's restaurants in Pasadena do. Great service with staff that really care and know their stuff (thanks Chris for being such a great server!). The ambiance is dark and low lit, so its romantic and a little like being in a noir film with old black and white photographs on the walls. The BOOZE (cause that's what we started with!) -Their specialty martini is delish! Its a little dirty with blue cheese stuffed olives! -Justin Cabernet for the wine choice- you can never go wrong with a Justin wine! However, they have a full wine list on the back of the menu that looked amazing. They also had a moscow mule (in the copper cup!) and some other interesting cocktails that I'll have to try next time! The FOOD -We got the fried shrimp and calamari appetizer. It was good, but really light on the shrimp (3 pieces) in comparison to the calamari. It's what you would expect from fried calamari. -The steak special was a hangar steak with mashed potatoes and pearl onions. Very tender and delicious! The whole thing disappeared! -The cioppino seafood stew was ok. It was a lot more greasy than what I was expecting and I felt like a fool trying to crack the crab legs to get the meat out. The legs were softened, so they weren't really cracking. There was only one shrimp in there and tons of white fish and salmon though. Very tasty, although I'd have preferred less oil floating on the top. -The bread pudding dessert. Wonderful! How can you go wrong with bread pudding?? Overall a great first experience and we'll be coming back! read more

Food is delicious and I like that the waitstaff is professional. The bartender made the best martini I've ever had. There's an old Hollywood glamour to this place. One thing that did annoy me...
