Had the ahi starter, and it was aweful. Moved to the wedge with burnt bacon... Then to the pulled over cooked pork. Horrible !!! Bar was nice and it's a great place to meet working girls. But for food ... I will pass. The waiters are nice...the wait can be long... read more

I had dined at Smitty's a few times and found the food good, service was inconsistent but on the whole I had always thought it was an OK place. So we decided to book our 10th wedding anniversary here in their private room. Everything seemed OK until I started to try to plan the menus and details of my party with Smitty's. No-one was interested in helping coordinate, calls were on the whole not returned and when they did call back they said no need to meet, no need to go over details, no opportunity to discuss wine options, no contract. I was so discouraged I canceled the room, rebooked at another restaurant where I was assigned a coordinator to work with and was given a contract. If you are looking to host a party of guests this is not the place to go. read more

What a great place this is. I really enjoy it - from the people, to the food, and the general ambiance and feeling. I truly like this restaurant and this is my favorite of all of Pasadena's terrific restaurants. read more

This restaurant has amazing service. I came in on a Friday night with out a reservation and there was one table left. The rib eye steak was so tasty and cooked to perfection. The hot fudge Sunday topped it all off but I couldn't finish it. What a discovery of a restaurant. read more

Smitty's is by far my favorite of the Smith bros restaurants. It is always consistent and the ambience is truly great. I prefer to sit outside weather permitting but the entire place is great to sit in (a little noisy though sometimes) The potato chips are awesome and I alwasy get the rib eye. Again, the service is usually just so so. There are times when we have gotten great service but it is not consistent. For the most part though this is one of the few places that you get what you pay for. read more

Parking: Free valet parking (you have to tip the attendant, which is like $2) Food: Absolutely delicious. I went here on a formal date with my boyfriend and we spared (almost) no expense. We started with a split seared tuna special salad, which could rank among the best salads ever. Their trout with pumpkin seeds was delicious, and the dessert - chocolate cake - was to die for. Our table wasn't fantastic - we were right by where the waiters come out of the kitchen, so our waitress kind of struggled to be heard over the noise, but she made a commendable effort. The servers were very friendly and the hostess seated us more quickly than we expected. I'd say: good place for dinner. Not sure about lunch. read more

Two friends and I went to Smitty's in Pasadena last week at suggestion of friend. I have never posted a restaurant review on line and I will keep it short. I have dined at many restaurants in the past 57 years. I rate Smitty's a 1 for food, 2.5 for service and 3.5 for ambience. The ambience is great, and the service is OK, BUT for what they charge for the food that we had, a TOTAL disappointment. I paid thirty dollars for a dry, grisly and stringy filet mignon and 25 cents worth of tasteless mashed potatoes. One friend had the same, and the other had the "Special" Osso Buco and said it was OK but a disappointment. The wedge salad was good. The starter cocktails are good and strong and set you up for average fare at huge prices. What a concept! We added a 25% tip for our service, and I will never go there again. There is SOOOO much better available in the area. I would recommend for people who like to get hammered, then impress by the cost. read more

ATTENTION SMITH BROTHERS!!!! Well, Ide like to start out by saying that i love the other Smith Brothers restaurants in the pasadena area, but this one just feels like the outcast, like that kid at school thats just in your friends circle that no one really knows why or how he got there. Me and my wife dinned here last night with her family and mine, and the service was just horrible. It took over 20 minutes for them to bring out our bottle of wine, another 20 minutes after we told our older than dust waitress that were ready to order for her to actually remember that we were there and come back over. Just ZERO excuse! It seemed like out of the five of us, i was the only one that actually found my meal edible, ordering the french dip. The halibut, the salmon and the meatloaf that were at the table looked like something that came out of a microwave oven and was really just a pity to actually of spent hundreds for this meal! Pretty much any other steak house in the pasadena area would be better that Smittys. I love love love Arroyo Chop House and Park Way Grill very much, dining at them regularly.. i guess it was my mistake to assume that Smittys would be at the same caliber as those. read more

Spending Christmas Eve with my family at Smitty's was a great idea! From the time we were seated until dessert settled in, every bite was delicious. Crab Cakes, Cesar's Salad, Petite Filets, Creme Brulee and the valet parking were perfect in every way. We'll definitely do this again. read more

I don't see it pictured here but the Chicken Piccata is one of the best meals I have ever had. I always order it minus the capers. I love everything about Smittys and will drive up here from the OC just to eat here. Great place to have a work Christmas party. When we did the staff here did not let us down read more

Five of us celebrated my 80th birthday at lunch time. The staff presented me with 3 stems of orchids (this was without advance notice of our showing up there) and a freebie dessert. Four of us had $12 martinis, one each, but I think you would have needed two or three if you were looking for a buzz. The diner in our party who ordered the pot roast served with root vegetables had to send it back, it was so "uncuttable" with a knife. The diner who ordered "Smitty's Famous Meatloaf" was disappointed in the meatloaf but said the garlic mashed potatoes were excellent. Two of us had the beef stroganoff and the beef in it was second rate. The diner who ordered the filet mignon hamburger medium rare found it medium to medium well. All of the staff were first-rate, only the drinks and food were a disappointment. read more

We travel to Pasadena several times a year and don't ever miss a chance to dine at Smitty's. The staff is superb and the food amazing - seafood to meatloaf. It's all great! read more

WOW! That sums up everything we experienced at Smitty's. We walked in on a Friday afternoon for lunch, actually we caught a fantastic smell in the air and followed it down the street and discovered Smitty's. This place is as good as it gets. The service was great and most importantly, the food was stellar. This is now the bench mark for every other place we go to. What we had-- We started with their homemade corn bread which came in this personal pan-sized dish. The bread itself was thick and extremely tasty with just the right amount of saltiness to balance the sweetness. Its worth saying that neither of us actually like cornbread, but we ate this one very quickly. After, we followed with a prime USDA steak that was aged for some number of days. Woah! Talk about tender. I still have dreams about that steak... We also tried the salmon dish, which just melted in your mouth. So rich and buttery, I don't think I've had another salmon dish that can compare to this one. But the best part of both dishes was the mashed potatoes. Holly cow those were good! The creamy texture just coated your mouth and left you wanting more, and more, and more. Nothing that was placed on our table survived. Amazing. I highly recommend Smitty's to everyone that might be considering going. I do think secretly wishing that you won't go, so that I can get a table without any hassle. Smitty's is definitely in a league of its own. read more

The lamb chops are really good. Very good for dates or just fun. The desert selection is good. Also very classey.

It is not a vegetarian friendly restaurant. The few options they did have were not very good. The garden salad had beets in it. And the fried potatoes and onions were too greasy. There was not much else to choose from on the menu. It was the most disappointing meal that I have had in years. I would rather go to Chipolte. The food is better. The food on menu is expensive. Many of the items are over $30 so they should probably be listed for more than $$. read more

What can I say... I love everything that this place serves.. But then again, if you're under the Smith Brothers ownership, then its nothing but the best(Parkway Grill, Arroyo Chop House, Seco) Never had a bad meal or bad experience.. Love the prime rib meal, and the cornbread.. YUM!!!!! read more

The only black people at two tables for their outside dining and we were there for bday. We were given an additional chair for the extra person we had without even asking. As our night went on, the Caucasian managers walked the entire perimeter of the outside dining staring whispering at us like we had died something wrong for 10mins and was very indiscreet about it; It was so bad that it had other patrons looking at wondering what did we do. Instead of just coming up to us at the very beginning and saying we apology but we shouldn't have given you an extra chair, we only can have 6 people to a table (which is understandable), and we are going to fix it, they humiliated us publicly like he had did something wrong and you could see the look on faces of the patrons like there was going to be problem. Totally unacceptable. It want until I asked the Caucasian manage what is the problem that has had you guys staring at us for 10mins and making everyone look us, is when and ONLY when she decided to come speak to me while the male Caucasian manager ignored me, turned his head, and acted as if we weren't there! The 2 stars I gave is ONLY for the waiter. The waiter was great for the time I was there! read more

This place is fantastic. The food is exceptionally tasty, the service is good. The hostesses are friendly (and easy on the eyes). The atmosphere is very well done. This place has appeal for the thirties set all the way to the seventies. Love it. It is expensive, but you are getting a very fine dining experience. read more

Major disappointment! I had stopped by Smitty's for a drink one day after work and was looking forward to coming back for dinner. I should have stopped at the bar. It was a crowded Saturday night and the vibe was busy but not fun. I did not see any of the tables really enjoying themselves. I specifically requested a "cool" waiter when I made my reservation. She was so NOT cool. Very flat, very matter of fact as if it wouldn't matter to her if we had a nice evening or not. I hate those places where they ask you if you want bread but don't tell you there is a charge. My husband asked for a dinner salad and she said the salad of the day was good but forgot to mention that it was a $15 dollar salad. Sneaky. the rib eye steak was worse then what you would get at Denny's the sea bass was a flat dry tasteless piece of fish the lemon drop was one of the worst we have ever had the blonde european manager was unseasoned and unprofessional she did nothing to rectify our horrible experience even after we told her how disappointed we were. we did not even tempt dessert. we walked to bistro 45 up the street to see if we could salvage our evening. and did we ever. the last hour that we spent at bistro 45 completely made up for the lame Smitty's. SKIP Smitty's. read more

I came here 2twice last week and could not stay away from the Prime Rib. There's 2 cuts, reg and large, The reg is like 12 oz and the large is 16 oz with a price difference of 5-6 dollars. I had both and would stick with the reg cut. It's more than enough for one unless your sharing. It came out to perfection. I always order my meats Rare+plus which is bloody and oh sooo good. I would order this again. I also tried the Seafood Cioppino which was salty but tasty and comes with a good size dungeness crab claw. I would order this again but with less salt. The drinks here are a bit pricey, 11-14$. The wine bottles are reasonable. Bon Appetit. read more

Smitty's Grill is one of my favorite restaurants in Pasadena. Not only has the food been perfect every time I've been here, the service has been consistently great. This is a wonderful place for a first date. It's not cheap, but not over the top either. The atmosphere is calm California elegant. Not a place to party with your girls friends though, unless you're part of the ladies who lunch crowd. Great bar, great food, great atmosphere. You won't be disappointed. read more

We were seated in a semi private area, were there were maybe only 3 other tables. I didn't mind it, it still gave me the busy restaurant feel, with a splash of sophistication; perfect on a Saturday evening. We all ordered some sort of burger/sandwich. Erika and I ordered the pulled pork sandwich, Tanya the smokehouse burger, which looked so good, and Paulina, the Turkey burger. I was so annoyed by my own health, because I ultimately couldn't enjoy my meal. I had a scratchy throat for the past couple of days and I knew if I had anything spicy, I would immediately go into cough attack mode (why me?). That is exactly what happened :-( . I had a small piece of the pork and it started the madness. I had to send it back. The waiter ( who was such a cutie btw ) swiftly took the dish back and had them make me a turkey burger instead. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Okay lets talk about management! We weren't seated a good 10 minutes before we were greeted by a strapping young lad of a man who I swore looked like Superman's Clark Kent sans the glasses. So handsome, polite, and attentive. Him being handsome was enough for me, but what do I know? I'm just a woman who has a soft spot for good-looking men. He looked like he just wrapped filming an episode of Mad Men (swoon). He gave us a very warm welcome, and when I sent my dish back he came over to see what was wrong, That's what I like to see, hands-on management. read more

This restaurant never disappoints. They have delicious cornbread. It's lively but not too loud. A great neighborhood spot but worth driving in from a distance read more

I have been to Smitty's MANY times and the service and ambiance were always good. It's an old school Grill that is fairly consistent. However, we were seated at a table that should not have been a table. It's a 4-top next to the bar and the bustle of the servers was annoying whizzing by the table to get get drinks. Also the smell of the glass disinfectant wafted over to our table making an unpleasant olfactory sensation. It took at least 10 minutes for a waiter to get our drink order. Granted it was a Saturday night but maybe management needs to cut back on the number of tables per server. Service was unreliable and slow. Our main entree was small portion of Prime Rib off the bone. A small side of mashed potatoes and sauteed spinach accompanied it even though we asked for creamed spinach. Took about 10 -15 minutes to get a slice of chocolate cake. Overall not a good experience for what I have had in the past with this restaurant. read more

Good bar food, great service, and cold beers. What more do you need?

This is a good place for steak and strong drinks, but steer clear of their seafood. My wife has had various dishes and they've been disappointing. Their cornbread is dry also. Make reservations and be ready for a noisy restraunt read more

I eat here at least twice a week. As soon as I walk in I am greeted by my last name. Food and service are both excellent. Bobby usually picks my lunch and Erika my dinners. At times I have walked in without reservation and they have done their best to accommodate me. Last year I had my Christmas party here with over 30 guests and they all enjoyed it. Highly recommended. read more

Well I'm not sure what happened tonight at Smitty's from the start our shrimp appetizer was just awful ! Two were still frozen and hard , then my Large Prime dinner was also very disappointing! Prime beef was difficult to cut and dry, my wife's Wild Salmon was over cooked! Our cheese cake and wild very crisp were not bad, how ever we probably won't be returning to eat here any more. To bad since we used to love to eat here. F Cruz read more

Always a great time at Smitty's! Starting with a drink at the bar and their amazing potato chips! I have gone for the DineLa dinners a couple of times and have not been disappointed! You gotta check this place out. If you go, you gotta ask for Ian. This guy is the Kobe Bryant of waiters. His style is unmatchable his form is impeccable his stance is impregnable. I've never seen someone put up with my wife for that long. haha I'm kidding, but seriously, the guy knows how to entertain. Whenever I go I request to be seated in his section and I always tip 30%. that's a lot for a frugal man such as myself. I'll return for the service alone! But let's not rule out the food. I'm somewhat of a steak man, however theres this meatloaf, you see. I don't know whose mother is back there slaving away but I imagine she must be the oldest nicest lady with a knack for making bread shaped meat dishes. its amazing. You gotta try it. Still reading this review? Here's your instructions. Call ahead. Reserve a table and request that Ian serves you. Order the meatloaf. Thank me later! read more

Came here for lunch with a group of about 10. Summary: our server was MIA the entire time. Literally several times the people in our group were just looking around wondering where is our food? Where are our drinks? Where is our server? Where is our dessert menu? Where is our check? I clocked how long it took for someone to notice my blatantly empty water glass. After 30 minutes went by I flagged someone down because I couldn't wait any longer to have some water. Calamari was soggy with oil and they forgot to salt it, and its dipping sauce was very watery. I ordered the add-on shrimp for my Caesar salad (an extra $6) and it only came with 3 pieces of shrimp!! The fanciest restaurants do better than that! This might be one of the worst restaurants I've ever been to. Bad service, bad food. This is bad American food trying to be upscale classy but failing miserably. read more

Smitty's is my favorite restaurant in Pasadena for many reasons. I really enjoy the ambiance and intimate setting. All of the staff members are very amicable and gracious. The menu offers a variety of excellent classic dishes, as well as delicious specials, and great cocktails. What is unique about Smitty's is that it is very traditional, but appeals to all three generations in my family. We usually dine there at least once a week, and sometimes more often. We have made it a tradition to celebrate certain holidays and memorable family occasions for several years at Smitty's, and have enjoyed the excellent service and personal attention provided by our server Judy, who makes each of our dining experiences a pleasurable event . Judy is so professional and personable; we always look forward to seeing her! We are so pleased to have such a friendly and intimate neighborhood restaurant that consistently serves excellent food and provides superior service. read more

Great place for a classy dinner. We had steaks, seafood and their authentic Stroganoff. Prompt friendly service and good atmosphere.

We were there for a birthday celebration, a group of 12. I should have tried the petite filet mignon!! After reading reviews before coming here for the first time, that's what I wanted, but when we were at the table, someone said the sand dabs (fish) were REALLY GOOD. I love seafood, so I ordered those instead. Mistake. They weren't bad...just not super; for my taste, they were covered with way too much heavy, not-too-tasty, sauce. The cheese bread was a little too rich for me, and I didn't care for the taste. I was expecting to be floored by the potato chips & ice cream but wasn't. The service was rather poor, but I expected that from previous reviews. Bottom line---eh, everything was so-so. I'm unable to (don't know what I'm doing wrong now...I was able to post more than 1 review per establishment before), but I wanted to write a separate review for the wonderful staff (not our waiter) who kept our water glasses filled constantly and very delicious cornbread. That review would have merited 5 stars. read more

Smitty's has long been my favorite dinner spot in Pasadena but beyond the amazing food....whether comfort or fine dining, the most impressive thing that stands out is Thomas Acker....the manager. He makes our experience so special every time we come in. He makes you feel part of the family. With so many new snotty restaurants around, it's nice to call a place home and feel like family. The Pork Chop is amazing, ribs are killer and chicken pot pie or ham & cheese are pure joy...... read more

With the closing of restaurants during the current pandemic, it has been a diner's nightmare. This is why I am thankful for Smitty's Grill in Pasadena. Open for pick-up and delivery, they are the answer to every diner's prayer. We've ordered numerous times for pick-up during the lock-down, and we have never been disappointed. All that is lacking is the friendly. bustling atmosphere and the sterling professional service that Smitty's is known for among their regular family of diners. Ordering for pick-up is no sacrifice however, because the menu items are delicious and the call in staff are very helpful and dedicated to the total enjoyment of your dine at home experience. We have tried all of our favorites, the pot pie, the prime rib, the roast chicken, the sandabs and the trout. Everything is prepared to perfection! The prime rib is medium rare, melt-in-your-mouth, tender. The sandabs are fresh, very tasty and served with spaghetti squash. The chicken was succulent and the pot pie is the best anywhere. You can't lose! You can even wash it down with Smitty's famous barrel aged Old Fashions or Manhattans. They sell them in a container of 6. At the end of the week, when stuck at home on a Saturday night, we recommend without reservation ordering from Smitty's. It will turn a humdrum night into a festive and memorable occasion. read more
