Food at best ok. Expensive for what you get. Meat was tasteless, bun soft with no taste, little sauces or sides. As best as I can describe it, think if you bought one of the big packs of frozen burgers at the whole sales club, fried one in a pan and served on a plain bun. Smash Burger.... this place man. Smash Burger should without a doubt be called Trash Burger. It's almost comical how all around bad this place is. I can honestly say if I were about to die and the doctor told me "The only way to live is to go to Trash Burger in Gainesville," I would start writing my will. The first time I went the employees were all on their phones and seemed to not even care about the customers waiting for their food or the ones in line. I just looked past it and tried to not let it effect my meal. After finally getting my plain cheeseburger, a very simple order in my opinion, after about 20 minutes my first impression of the burger was very average. Really flat and looked so un-appetizing. To make it worse, one of the employees took out the trash and the trash bag was LEAKING. Dude, I almost puked. It was leaking some gross oil that probably could melt steel. It was leaking all over the ground and the employee didn't even clean up the alien juice. I didn't even finish eating and left. The next time I went was where I really discovered my hatred for this place. I was extremely reluctant to go in the first place but my friends all wanted it so I went. As soon as I stepped in I knew this was going to be bad... It was packed for who knows why and I noticed a very large line waiting for people to get their food after they've ordered. I ordered my $8 (way too much for the dirt burger they make, yes, a dirt burger, that's what it's probably made of and it tastes like) burger. That's all I got, no fries, no drink, just a piece of meat on a bun. So my friends and I waited so long I finished my first novel, got married, and learned how to knit. While waiting in line I saw a woman return her entire meal after they got multiple parts of it wrong. Trashburger probably goes around Gainesville looking for dirty shoes so they can deep fry and say they're burgers. The food sucks. When I got home I swear to god I took a shower and washed my hands four times. That's how dirty I felt. Dude, the place needs to be shut down or something. Final thoughts: If you absolutely have to go here, wear a hazmat suit and under the hazmat suit wear a giant trash bag over your clothes. If you can get past the musty aurora of the place make sure to take out a student loan just to get a meal here. If you can do all that then you should be on a TV show called I Voluntarily Eat Trash. I enjoyed the bacon cheeseburger that I had. I am also a fan of the thinner crispy fries. The bun was by far the best part of the burger. I still think 5 guys is a better burger altogether. What I did like about the smashburger was that it was not as messy to eat as a 5 guys burger is. I have been back a 2nd time and would continue to go as my wife prefers Smashburger over 5 guys, but what does she know?! read more

Whoa! Reading some of these reviews makes me think we have been frequenting another burger shop..we have gone to the Smashburger in Gainesville twice in the last two weeks and have raved about the food there! Hubby got Avocado Chicken Club and I got the smashburger on a brioche roll....both were so delicious...hamburger juicy, chicken bigger than the roll, and smash fries with rosemary and olive oil perfect. Only thing that I might be missing is that we were there on weekdays and maybe when gets packed, is not as clean, but I would tell everyone to go in non-busy hours if that is the case, because food is awesome. I got a mushroom grilled burger. The burgers are pretty small. Not to mention the fries are super thin, you need to eat 10 at the same time to get an actual taste. The cashier wasn't very pleasant. The place was overall neat and tidy. All in all the burger I got was pretty good! read more

Decent burgers for sure. I like how they are not as crowded as when they first opened. Their fries are very creative and the Buffalo fries are definitely interesting. OMG the Avacado Bacon Cheeseburger was to die for!!!! Wow to say the very least I was extremely impressed! We love Smashburger typically. We have never been to one with bad service. Today was our daughter's birthday and all she wanted was Smashburger with a salted caramel milkshake. We got there half an hour before they closed thinking we had enough time. We would've came earlier, but the movie she wanted to watch was only playing at 6:20. We have walked in about the same time as the one we go to in GA and never have these issues. We walk in and it took a minute for them to wait on us. I have worked in restaurants enough in my life to know the delay without apology was a bad sign. We tried to order the shake and they told us they couldn't make one....no real reason why. Okay, fine. But then they gave us our food in to go bags, even though we weren't even asked if we wanted to eat in or take it to go, so we sat down to eat there. There was old dried ketchup on the side of the table that I cleaned off. It had been there a while. Food was a bit extra greasy too. The staff was lacking in customer service pretty bad here. A man came in after us and he stood there for a while before the girl would acknowledge him and still...no apology for the delay. I was surprised she didn't even tell him something like "I'll be with you in just a minute!" Nothing. I hope the owners take the time to read these reviews, but a call to corporate may be in order too because there are way too many reviews on here stating the same thing. Until they change things, I'd drive across the street to the Five Guys! You might have a better chance there! We left feeling like we were a burden to them. Not good guys! read more

The burgers are good when they can't get the orders right. Got an online order, first they didn't give us any of the fries. Noticed before we left and they gave us the fries. I also payed an extra $1.40 for haystack onions on my burger. When u got home and opened the burger, no onions. Blech. I've had significantly better burgers at Burger King than I had at this place. Got a jalapeno baja burger, a barbecue bacon cheddar burger, an order of smashfries, a soda and a nutter butter milkshake for $22. So prices aren't bad, until you consider the quality of the food. The buns are soft and spongy - I'd compare them to cheap supermarket brand hamburger buns. The burger patties were about the color of chocolate milk. The cheese covered maybe half of each burger. The toppings were mediocre and placed sporadically on the burgers. There was a pool of oil in the bottom of the french fry basket, as in, an oil slick large enough that environmentalists should be worried about nearby aquatic life. The milkshake was fine. The Coke Zero was a-ok. The employees were friendly enough, and one did come to clear away our empty plates when were finished. The girl who took our order could use a bit more training. We initially ordered two sodas, but then decided on a milkshake instead of one of them before we checked out. She had to call in reinforcements to figure it out. The atmosphere is only okay if you are parents with small children who need a place for your kids to be incredibly loud when they meet up with all their friends. The rest of the population will try to escape to the outdoor seating for some peace. In summary, never again. read more

Burger is very tasty. I ordered to eat at the store a milk shake ($4.29) with my smash burger. They served it on a plastic cup (to go) and they didn't even filled it to the top. Their response was that they didn't have any clean glasses. There were only 7 patrons at the store. I found their excuse very week. No reason also to serve 2/3 of a plastic cup. At least a full cup would have been enough to avoid upsetting the customer. Didn't show willingness to serve and make me happy. Very disappointed! read more

What a tremendous disappointment. Basically it's three times the cost of McDonalds and arguably similar quality. Although to be fair to McDonalds I've never had a burger there look like the dry shriveled little patty I received tonight. And I say three times the cost because it's actually priced about twice McD's, but the burgers are so tiny you still have to go to McDonalds afterwards to get enough to eat! I also thought the smash fries were gross. We went at about 615pm, waited 20 minutes in a line with just 6 people ahead of us, then waited another half hour for our food. They forgot our veggie frites so we waited another 20 minutes to get those but then just gave them back because they turned out to basically be four green beans dripping in hot oil. Super gross. So in summary, this place takes too long and costs too much to be fast food; but for what you pay to still leave hungry it's safer to just go somewhere else. read more

Cute place, but bad service. Took 30 minutes to get a burger and fries. They didn't seem panicked or worried at all at the fact that they were backed up about a dozen orders. When I got my food, they gave me a bavond avacado burger... without bacon. I was too hungry to care at that point and I knew if I said anything I'd just take even longer, so I ate what I got. My husband and I love Smashburger but this location is HORRIBLE!!!! The place is filthy, the floor is so Greasy that it is like trying to walk on an Ice skating Rink, I literally had to walk like a duck just not to slip and fall it was so greasy and slippery! GROSS The tables were not wiped down, the napkin dispensers were all but empty. The ladies room was absolutely DISGUSTING!!! We were at Smashburger around 6 pm on 1/3/2015. It was pretty busy, but not crazily so. We ordered the Capitol Burgers (so good!) and the Smash fries and the sweet potato fries. Loved the food. My only complaint was that I did not like the note on the doors about people camping at tables before their food is ready (really, can't you police this internally? It seemed juvenile and off-putting), and we had to bus our own table to be able to sit down. Table space *is* at a premium when they are busy, so it is not a place to linger on a Friday or Saturday night. Food is great, though! read more

Burger was great but they stiffed me on my large fries and my milk shake. The fries were the same portion as a regular when I ordered a large. The milkshake was halfway full filled the rest of the way up with whip cream. It might just be because it was a bunch of kids working but all the other smashburgers I've been too have been amazing and they always hooked it up. We recently went to the Smash Burger restaurant in Gainesville, on a Sunday morning at about 11:15. We weren't the first customers, but there hadn't been many before us. We like their food and had eaten there many times before. But on this particular morning, it was so disgusting, we haven't returned. The floors looked like they hadn't been cleaned in days. The table tops were dirty and sticky (we moved around to try to find a clean one - couldn't find one). The soda machine area was filthy. And the bathroom was absolutely disgusting. This caused us to wonder how clean the cooking area was, so we left without finishing our food. I like their food, but I'm not willing to risk getting sick, or worse. read more
