Service is a problem in this franchise location. Last time we called in an order to pick up, they waited until we got there to start cooking it. We called ahead for a reason - not wanting to stand around in the restaurant waiting!!! Today we went in to order since calling ahead is no good. Everyone pretty much knows Five Guys and famous for their burgers and fries. I came around dinner time and it was decently packed on a weekday night. I read online that you can actually order a "Patty Melt" by asking them for a grilled cheese. You can ask them to add a patty and any toppings you would like. I decided to get the "Patty Melt" with grilled mushrooms, BBQ sauce, grilled onions, lettuce, and pickles. I ordered my burger with Regular fries to share with my siblings. The burger: Juicy and delicious! It definitely filled up my appetite and knowing that you can ask for your own "Patty Melt" is a game changer. The bread was very soft but crispy on the outside. The BBQ sauce is my absolute favorite and it pairs well with everything else. The fries: Five Guys aren't known to have crispy fries so don't expect to have those. The inside is supposed to be mashed potato like but firm on the outside. If you want to get crispy fries, ask if you can get the fries "Well done" and they'll fry them longer. That's exactly how we ordered it and they were decently crispy. They weren't really well salted so I paired with BBQ sauce on the side. The service: The cashier didn't seem to be in the best mood and wasn't welcoming either. Food came out within 8 mins which is the prime time it should come out. We ate here about a week ago. Third bad experience in a row over the past year. The burger patties were so small they were laughable. The meat was overcooked. The buns were smushed and cold. The iceberg lettuce on one burger was a small piece that was all white (not green at all). They gave us a little less fries than they normally do, but overall still pretty plentiful when compared to most other fast food restaurants. They were hot and tasted ok. The quality of the food at this Gainesville location is not up to the standards we have come to expect from Five Guys over the decades. Past issues with this location have been settled, and we did not go back for some time. But, on Tues. 7/13/21 we went back for a carry out order and the quality of the Fries was so bad, that I actually took a photo of them...they try to make them look fresh by mixing in a few fresh ones, but the bulk of them look like they were from the week before...old greasy, burned, poor quality, black rotten places. And the prices are cheap for most people, the milkshakes are for the most part really good, but the cherry milkshake is terrible. I tried it and regretted it. And make sure not to get to much fries. For 3 people a medium is reccomend. They give Alot! The people are really nice and do there job great. This location is on par with every other 5 Guys locations that I've eaten at. Still definitely the best "fast food" burger and even as good if not better than most "restaurant" burgers I've eaten. Fries are great too, I rarely eat on site so the fries have to make the trip home. I used to live much closer to the location on West Ox Road in Fairfax than I do now to this one here in Gainesville (thanks to Linton Hall/29) but the fries here at this location make the trip home much better and still retain their crunch. A few friends decided to check it out before a movie one evening and the reviews were all positive. I had only sampled the fries last year in July. Tonight was my chance to sample it full-on! "When it comes to fast food and "fast casual" restaurants my standards aren't usually very high...probably because I've been let down so many times. This isn't the first time I've chronicled my love and passion for Five Guys, however my visit to Five Guys today radically changed my entire view on their restaurant and what we should expect from every restaurant we visit." Ambiance: Five Guys prides themselves, simply, on quality, service and cleanliness. The rest is just fluff. White with red and black accents, Five Guys is a recognizable franchise throughout the United States and Canada. Even the font used for the logo is simple, classic and unpretentious. Clean is an understatement at this Gainesville location, where patrons are welcomed to the counter and orders are taken off of the simple menu: Burgers, dogs, sandwiches, fries and drinks (in two sizes: regular or large).
