I asked Jay to come by because my AC wasn't cooling enough (intake temp vs at the vent). Being of such a mistrusting nature (I've been fleeced by service guys before) I decided to have two companies come on the same day, so I could get an instant second opinion. It was nothing more than the luck of the draw that Jay came second, and I was already happy that the first guy seemed to do a good job and didn't overcharge me. Jay and I had already agreed on a fee for his service call, and I was determined to pay it so I didn't feel guilty letting him come by. When he arrived I told him all of the above right off the bat, so there was no confusion, and Jay was first of all very understanding, and then did an inspection and decided that the other technician had done a good job. Then, much to my displeasure, he tried not to charge me the service fee, but I protested that it wasn't his fault that I had asked someone else to come on the same day, so we eventually agreed on an amount less than the amount he had quoted me. That was a little bit bizarre, the consumer wanting to pay more, and Jay wanting to charge less, but it also told me that when I need a new AC system (the day will come soon, I'm afraid) I will most certainly call him. Great service, knowledgeable and professional! A/C stopped blowing cold air and figured that the freon was getting low. Called up a few places around and they estimated me about $60+ per pound for a refill. I called Jay on Friday and he was able to fit me in on Saturday. Thought it was going to be an expensive fix, but it ended up being a simple disconnect and a short. It became a heck of a lot cheaper and I was charged just for a service call. Jay did a fantastic job, he quickly diagnosed the initial problem (breaker trip) and still did a full diagnosis on the system and actually found out WHY the breaker was tripping. it was tripping due to incorrect wiring by the previous installer. He definitely went above and beyond to help the system not only run but find out why it was breaking the circuit so often. Too many service companies will take advantage of the easily fixable situation and really take you sideways. What can I say? I never write reviews but I can't help but tell everyone about Jay. My air conditioning went out and Jay responded to my service request in record time. He ran a few tests and determined that we had a clogged drain which was more than likely the source of the problem. Jay spent close to an hour at our home, and left without charging a penny. "We believe in good customer service" he says "we don't fix it, we don't charge".. I then called Andy's Plumbing Company.... who, after cancelling and rescheduling appointments 4 times over 2 days...(no apologies BTW, just said they had more important clients that needed them immediately)...finally showed up and was able to unclog the drain in a matter of a few minutes. And charged $216!!! Unfortunately it did not seem to fix the problem because there was still only warm air blowing from the vent. I called Jay, not wanting the plumbers to leave until Jay confirmed they had done all that he had expected, and he said he would be there within an hour to check it out. He showed up 30 minutes later, everything was working fine by then, and again he left without charging a penny.. What??? Who does that anymore? Jay, can you start a plumbing business?..LOL read more

I started having issues with my A/C not cooling on a Sunday with temperatures in the 90s. I called my home warranty company and they didn't send a company out until Wednesday night. The tech shows up, did some diagnostic and tells me I need to have my coils chemically cleaned. That was going to be a separate job, so I need to make an appointment for a later date and $300 out of pocket since home warranty doesn't cover that. The tech was there maybe 30 minutes tops. My wife and I agree to get a second opinion. So I called smart air and talked to J. He came out the next day on time and assessed the whole situation. Come to find out it wasn't a coil issue, it was a heat issue in the attic. The heat in the attic wasn't getting transferred out fast enough due to a small amount of insulation since it's an older home. One of my A/C units would not cool my living space. I had it at 75 degrees but after several hours the thermostat would read 85 degrees. So, I have used Smart Air (Jay) in the past and he was able to come out and diagnose the issue and fix the problem. He is very knowledge and takes his time to thoroughly explain the issue(s) and resolution(s) to the issue(s) so I (as a homeowner) can make a wise decision. Fantastic service! I was able to get a technician out right away and advice was also offered over the phone for things I could do to help. The technician located the problem and was able to have if fixed quickly. Jay and his team are upstanding people. I'm in the process of buying a home and i need an AC inspection done fast. Jay was able to schedule me for the next day and even showed up early. he performed a concise inspection and even walked me through some of the issues he was seeing. The positive reviews gave me hope, and I called for an appointment. Their own statement states they serve greater Houston and surrounding areas. I needed service and a potential install of a new system for my sunroom. I gave them my zip, and they said "We don't service Sienna Plantation. It's too far." I explained I didn't live in Sienna, but much closer. He said, "We don't go there, we only go as far as Spring and Cypress." I explained that both those places were roughly twice as far as we were, and that they we the closest major company to us, and that it was definitely in the area they claimed to cover." He again said "Sorry...we don't go to Sienna" and I hung up. Spring is 37 miles from them. Cypress is 31 miles. We are 17 miles away. Maybe they do great work...we'll never know. But for the best, because I don't like dealing with non-thinking excuse driven people....Well, that's not true. He came out and refilled our freon (for less than the competition had quoted us), and gave us a quote for a new system should we need it. This company is outstanding. I had a humidity issue in my home attributable to my AC. They lowered my blower fan speed and solved the problem. They are high tech. While servicing my furnance, they called carrier regarding my furnace to get the specs. Jay had a high tech visual heat camera that showed where heat was entering my home ... down to the rafters and even the edges of the windows. This device even measured the air temperature coming out of the vents. Jay took the time to show me how to change the blower speed myself in the future. This was incredible. If you are reading this review, please just take my word for it. These are the most honest contractors I have ever worked with. I've been duped by several AC companies who sold me something new every time they came out. More freon, less freon, a new fan, "tune up", pressure control valve, a brand new unit etc... Every single company had a different scheme to empty my wallet. The guys at SmartAir diagnosed my problem, determined that my units were just fine and that it was a relatively minor air flow issue tripping a sensor on my unit.
