Burger meal; Chocolate Shake

Normally I enjoy Small Cheval so I was little disappointed for this visit! We came late on a Thursday evening and it was pretty busy, there weren't any open tables inside but luckily it was a nice night so we were able to snag one of the few tables outside. It's very cute inside so it was a little disappointing to miss out on that. I think the soda machine was out of carbonation because my soda and replacement soda were both completely flat. They were busy so I didn't want to bother going up a second time. On this visit, the bread was slightly stale and I didn't feel like the burger had enough fixings on it. I asked for everything on it but I would've been better with lettuce, onion, tomato IMO. Mind you, I don't think EVERY burger needs those in it but this one didn't have enough flavor to go without. It do enjoy that they have self-serve garlic aioli for your fries and burgers though!

We dropped off my son at ORD so we decided to stop by Small Cheval for a late lunch. The place was not as busy as normal which was great as we were able to place our order quickly. I was not in the mood for a veggie burger so I got a cheese bun, which is essentially a cheese sandwich but I added all the veggies and condiments that come with the burger. Threw in a side order of fries as well. After placing the order, we waited for the buzzer to go off. The cheese bun was big Ava surprisingly filling. It tasted a little like a burger that has meat in it. It was satisfying along depth my golden fries. As we dined, we noticed the roof was open and found out it is retractable which is so nice. We never noticed in the past as we come here in the winter or they didn't open it. It gave some natural lighting. I enjoyed that. Small Cheval is great, fries are the best. The workers are nice and it's a nice place to take visitors of dropping off or picking up from the airport. We will be back for sure.

This is a cute place for burger and rootbeer float - IMO! I had the double cheeseburger which is really good. I love rootbeer float, so yeah I am a happy camper. We had fries and side of cheese sauce. The cheese sauce is only good when it's warm, it gets clumpy once cold. Meh! It's a self-service kind of restaurant. Order and sit anywhere.

Finally came here after loving Au Cheval for so long! Came here with a friend for dinner to catch up. Super family friendly during a weeknight dinner, but still works just as well for friends or a cute date night. They also have happy hour drinks. I ordered the single cheeseburger with fries and the lemonade slushie. The slushie was pretty tart. I personally would've liked it a bit sweeter, but the burger made up for it. So yummy! Very simple, classic, and you can add veggies and extras if you want. The interior is really cute and aesthetic, kind of like a dimly lit outdoor Paris cafe vibe. Overall, a solid spot that works for pretty much any group. I'd definitely come back.

I been hearing about this place for a while but didn't want to go all the way in the city. Luckily they have one by Rosemont which was definitely a little closer. I ordered the single cheeseburger and fries. The other stuff that we ordered was the hamburger and a cheeseburger on a lettuce wrap. Everything was so good. I love the fries. I will be definitely come back.

I love their burgers so much Just Delicious I drive all the way here Worth it every single time One of my favorite spots in the city I highly recommend them

Small Cheval is the kind of burger spot that makes you remember why simple done right is undefeated. The burger is juicy, perfectly salty, and hits that sweet spot of messy-in-a-good-way without trying too hard. The sauce, pickles, and onions all balance out so every bite feels dialed. The vibe is laid-back and effortless, like a place that knows it doesn't need a huge menu or a ton of hype because the food does the talking. If you're in Chicago and want a reliable, craveable burger that actually lives up to the buzz, Small Cheval is a no-brainer. Oh and the best part is there's hardly ever a wait at this location but be advised it is away from the City.

Cookies & Cream Milkshake (~$7)

Ordered: Signature Double Cheeseburger (~$11): with dijonnaise, pickles, and griddled onions Famous Fried Chicken Tenders (~$8): with Ranch, Buffalo, & BBQ sauces Golden Fries (~$5) Mexican Coke (~$5) Cookies & Cream Milkshake (~$7) Aya's take: Small Cheval aka the In-N-Out of Chicago! For those who don't know, Small Cheval is the fast casual version of Au Cheval which I've had the opportunity to try in NYC. There's plenty of locations throughout Chicago so definitely make it a stop when you're in town. Now is it as good as Au Cheval? Definitely not but at one-third of the price point, it's hard to complain. The beef patties are well-seasoned with crispy edges and just the right amount of fattiness. My main complaint is that there wasn't nearly enough dijonnaise sauce or pickles, making this pretty dry. The bun was nicely buttered and toasted but almost took away from the contents inside the burger. The Famous Fried Chicken Tenders were also a good try. I could tell the chicken was clean & high quality but there was some flavor I couldn't quite place which made it a bit off-putting; thankfully it wasn't super noticeable especially with the sauces. The Golden Fries were delicious and paired well with the burger & tenders! Even the Cookies & Cream Milkshake was solid! Classic milkshake with a good balance of creaminess, sweetness, and texture from the cookie bits. The interior was also bright, spacious, and comfortable! All in all, really solid try!

Came here on a Monday evening at 6 pm and I was surprised to see barely anyone here. I've been to the other Au Cheval and Small Cheval locations and they're always packed. This is the newest location and very spacious with a ton of seating inside and outside. It's well decorated and very airy with a lot of natural lighting. The menu is super simple...they really concentrate on what they do best which are awesome burgers and shakes. I got the double cheeseburger, golden cut fries, and chocolate shake...pretty much a 1500 calorie meal so i definitely can't eat here all the time . But definitely worth the calories and fat once in a while. Prices are not bad. The cashier was friendly and food came out relatively fast.

We stopped into Small Cheval on a whim on a Thursday afternoon around lunchtime. The parking lot was packed so we were a little nervous about dining in. We placed our order and just at that moment, a table became free.... Lucky! We ordered a couple cheeseburgers with fries and a four piece chicken nugget with fries. Our burgers were awesome and the nugs were great, as well. The fries were crisp and hot. The restaurant was very busy but it was clean and the employees were great. I hope we stop in again soon!

I had higher hopes. I was expecting a better quality meal, and over all I was disappointed. The burger was dry, the chicken tenders were barely breaded and nothing was special about them. The fries were to thick and not cooked enough, or salted enough. Very generic. Inside was very cute and they had a nice patio, but I would not go back for the food.

First time here , the inside decor is super cute . Looks like you are outside but inside :) the guys at the counter were all very nice and helped us out with questions bc we told them we were newbies lol . The prices are very crazy , an impossible burger with no cheese is $14 that's with no fries or drink . So yeah that's way overpriced . My husband enjoyed his double burger . We shared a fry with cheese sauce , their cheese sauce is wonderful and since my burger didn't have cheese , I used it to dip. Since my husband told the guys it was my birthday, one of them brought over a strawberry cheesecake mixer . I thought that was SO sweet of him . Not sure if they do that for all birthdays but it did make me feel better dropping $14 on a burger :) definitely not a place that will become a regular but would visit again .

We came for a later weekend dinner and the place was decently full and busy. It is counter service so you walk in and place your orders at the counter. They give you a buzzer to come and pick up your order at the counter when ready. We ordered the doubles and some hamburgers and cheeseburgers. Then also a couple orders of fries and some dipped ice cream cones. The burger was tasty and well seasoned. The fries as well, though felt like it was a little on the salty side. The dips they have to serve yourself including garlic aioli which was very tasty.

I would like to file a formal complaint regarding the manager, Rupert, at your store 09/17/2026…read more We placed an online order for pickup and, when we arrived, we lined up at the cashier because we also wanted to purchase drinks. Rupert told us that our order would take approximately 10-20 minutes, so we stepped away and waited for our order. What was concerning was that shortly afterward, a white customer came in and his order was taken right away. This was confusing and frustrating because we had just been told that we needed to wait. My friend then had to line up again separately just to purchase her drink. While we were eating, another Asian group came into the store and lined up at the cashier to place their order. Rupert again told them that they needed to wait approximately 20 minutes before he would take their orders. Seeing this happen to another group made us even more concerned about the way customers were being treated. Later, while we were eating, our group was talking and laughing together. We understand that we may have been somewhat loud, but instead of politely asking us to lower our voices, Rupert increased the volume of the store's sound system to a level that made it difficult for us to have a conversation. We found this behavior unnecessary and disrespectful. I want to emphasize that the other employees were very nice, courteous, and helpful. My concern is specifically with Rupert's behavior and the way he interacted with customers. A manager should set a positive example for the younger employees he supervises. Leadership should demonstrate professionalism, respect, fairness, and good customer service. It is disappointing to see a manager behave in a way that makes customers feel unwelcome, especially when the employees working under him were doing their best to be kind and helpful. I am asking your company to please review what happened 09/17/2026, including how orders were handled and Rupert's interactions with customers. I would also appreciate knowing what steps will be taken to ensure that customers are treated consistently, respectfully, and professionally regardless of their background. I hope the company takes this complaint seriously. No customer should leave a store feeling that they were treated differently or deliberately made uncomfortable by a manager.

Turns out, Short Fuse was right up the road and a 5 minute walk got us there. For a Sunday, it wasn't too busy but not dead, so we got seated right away. We ordered some beer and took a look at the menu. While nothing really struck our fancy, our waitress made a comment that if we did want any food, it might be slim pickings as they were running out of stuff. Turns out, this day was the last day they were open. Talk about timing! After she mentioned that, I started to notice that people were buying bar signs and various other things. Emily started off with a Guava Gose and I grabbed a Krankshaft kolsch. We sampled each other beers and we both really liked what the other ordered. I don't really know what a gose is but, damn, was that good! I've had Krankshaft before so I knew what I was getting myself in to. We ended up ordering a second round of the same beers and let each other sample the other's beer a little more liberally this time. While we were kind of hungry, nothing on the menu really struck our fancy, especially considering they might've been out of it. Room service took care of those hunger pangs later after a few more beers in the hotel bar. Online reviews for this place seemed hit and miss but I really enjoyed my time there and really enjoyed the artwork on the walls and the vibe of the place. We did contemplate buying some bar signs on our way out but declined as we don't know what we would exactly do with them. As I refuse to pay extra for sports channel subscriptions over my basic Comcast cable TV package, I didn't have TBS for this particular game or series, and decided to come here hopeful of watching a festive home field series clinching celebration on this night. It was a festive and fun and tense night, and I had a blast until things fell apart in the 6th inning. Beacon Tap has a great reputation as a good and long standing local sports bar and it lived up to it. In fact, I learned that on Bears football Sundays, you need to reserve a spot here as it's so packed, you can't just walk in and watch a game. I sat at the bar and ended up having a couple of delectable Maplewood Son of Juice IPA drafts (at a reasonable $7.25 apiece) and had a blast with fellow fans, two of whom were regulars here. Tim was the fine and attentive bartender and he kept the beers flowing and it was a packed bar and dining room as expected. I left after the 6th inning when the game was decided and the Sox eventually lost 9-5. It would have been so cool to celebrate a major sports win in a sports bar along with the comaraderie, something I've never experienced, but alas, it will probably have to be in another life, ugh. Come to think of it, I have been at a winning major championship game, the Bears' 1985 NFC championship game when they beat the Rams 24-0 at Soldier Field, but being at a rowdy sports bar is indeed another thing. They have a quite nice beer list, and the usual pub food offerings. I learned that their popular 1/2 price pizza night is Tuesdays. They have a big parking lot to handle their big weekend crowds.
