I think that most of the country is aware of Au Chevelle. it was voted the best hamburger in the entire United States. Most people wait three hours during dinner rush to be seated in this downtown location.
The owners of Au Chevelle wanted to give their customers a second option for a fast and quick experience without having to wait so they created small Chevelle that was located throughout the Chicagoland area.
Well, recently, Chevelle had branched out to the suburbs with its first location in Rosemont.
I wanted to see if this eatery lived up to the hype, so I headed down to Rosemont to check them out.
I drove to small Chevelle in Rosemont on a Tuesday afternoon. I realized that they had a drive-through. This was great because the inside was very busy.
I picked my head inside and noticed also, the seating was not the best looking. They had round tables surrounded by stools almost in a communal seating configuration. It looked almost as if it was a merry-go-round with a couple side tables that were booths.
They offer an outside seating which looks to be enjoyable, possibly on a warmer day but today it was in the upper 40s not very optimal for outdoor dining.
I drove around through the drive-through, and it was set up much like Portillo's where my order was taken by a worker with an iPad
Their menu was pretty straightforward cheeseburgers a chicken sandwich. They also have some vegan options. They also offer a ridiculously priced $22 Wagyu truffle burger.
I wanted to keep it pretty simple for this review. I ordered a double cheeseburger with all of the toppings that come on it. That is a Dijonnais and pickle. I also ordered chicken sandwich I also ordered a fry they have three different sauces, truffle white cheddar, garlic, aïoli, and just white cheddar with no truffle. I ordered all three.
I also asked the worker was I missing anything and she told me I should try a shake. I asked her which one was the favorite she said that the most popular was salted caramel.
I pulled around and waited for my order to be brought out to me like Culver's
The entire order time took no more than 10 minutes to get my food.
It came in a nice little bag with a handle. I wanted to taste this food at its freshest state, so I pulled over and decided to eat in my car.
I opened up all the sauces, and the white cheddar truffle was extremely gooey. I tried it first with a fry, and it was out of this world delicious the garlic aïoli was also delicious and the white cheddar. The truffle also was very good.
I took a sip of my shake, and it was creamy and delicious. Nothing out of this world, but a very good solid shake.
I've been unwrapped my hamburger and took a first bite. The hamburger tasted fresh, and the cheese was gooey and melty.
The actual seasoning, though on the hamburger was lacking there wasn't much flavor. I had to put some of the sauces onto the burger and that that really put it over the top being quite delicious. I also liked that they toast their buns.
I tried the chicken sandwich. This chicken sandwich was awful. It was dry like flavor was not juicy whatsoever. I took one bite and put the rest in the bag.
The fries are thin, shoestring type fries, a lesser version than McDonald's. They were tasty, but again nothing mind blowing.
For all the items that I listed, my total came to just under $45. The burger was very good but not the best I've ever had.
I do not think I would take a trip to Rosemont to try this place out. I have had much better hamburgers closer to home.
The price is also pretty high almost $11 for a hamburger if I'm going to spend that much money five guys blows this place out the water.
I give small Chevelle a rating of 6 out of 10.
If you're in the area, go, check them out for yourself. Just be conscious that this place is not cheap. read more
