We went in with the grandchildren for galato and ended up leaving with a lot more, candy-wise. A great shop with a lot of varieties of candies. Also a lot of nostalgic candies and gums from the 50s, like Black Jack and Clove chewing gum and salt water taffy. Many candy bars and bulk ( I don't know what you call the many colors of little m&m kind of candies) that you can get by the pound. Large and small all-day, colorful suckers/lollipops. Fresh-made fudge. Quite amazing to take in. The grandchildren had no problem with that. Their gelato was authentic and came in around 10 - 12 flavors. The BEST truffles in town! The truffles are both beautiful and yummy and HUGE! I'm talking two or three delicious bites, yum! They come from a fancy-shmancy truffle maker in Sacramento, they are so worth it. My favorite is the dark chocolate mint truffle. I also love their almond brittle. It is just right, not too sweet, not too hard, just crunchy goodness:) My wife enjoys the dark chocolate sea salt log, and yes, I tried a bite. Very delicious. It is so nice to drop in for a treat on date night. I saw some reviews about the prices being high.....let's face it, prices are high for gas, milk, rent, taxes, electricity....prices are high on everything right now. This shop is in the heart of downtown and they provide some great quality products that you cannot get just anywhere, let alone when you visit downtown Paso. My wife and I purchased 4 pieces of chocolates on Aug 25 at the Pine Street location: 1 Caramel Log @ $5.99, 1 Truffle @ $4.99, 1 Pecan Bar @ $5.99, and 1 English Toffee @ $5.99. (plus some cinnamon toothpicks @ $2.99) Once we got back to our Air BnB, we ate them. These chocolates are basically one or two bites at most. My wife and cut the English toffee and pecan bar in half to share. Both of us thought the chocolates had an odd flavor and we did not care for the taste. Almost like a cleaning solution flavor. The Truffle was actually good at one small bite. Since the bites were only one bite, we were very disappointed. And at 6 bucks for one English toffee bar and 6 bucks for one pecan bar, it was way overpriced for the quality ($25.95 total). I did not eat the carmel log, so I cannot comment on it. read more

Big mistake, he doesn't know what they usually cost, but he found out after he paid that the caramel apple cost $24!!!!! Who charges that?!?!? Rip-off. This is a shop that is definitely catering to the tourist population who are willing to spend more than the average consumer. The prices are a bit steep for pretty much everything in the store. Just a sampling of the prices include: $8 - Toblerone Bar $18 - Japanese Kit Kat 5oz bag (specialty flavors) $3 - Bottled Soda $7 - Pocky Sticks $6 - One Scoop Gelato The ambience is cute but I definitely preferred the old location across the street as the building had more character and lent itself perfectly to this kind of shop. The 'new' shop is smaller as well but still gives you that 'kid-in-a-candy-shop' feeling. In the back of the store you will find Charlie and the Chocolate Factory on the TV all day long and the theme music from the film on repeat. I'm sure this drove some employees insane so it seems they added different music for the front of the shop. The store was neatly organized and everything looked clean! It was a cute stop to look around. I will say, the items were quite pricey. We ended up purchasing some sodas, which were delicious! They have a nice selection of fun flavors. I think it's definitely worth a little visit if you're new to the area and especially if the theater was up and running. My only negative about our visit was the customer service. There were only three other customers inside the store with us and the cashier didn't greet anyone, did not smile, and seemed extremely bothered that we were in there. She also did not say "thank you" or "have a nice day" after the transaction.. and the whole vibe of it being a *sweets* and candy shop went out the window. :( Could have been having a bad day, but a small smile or a little bit of kindness could make a huge difference! The gelato here is absolutely amazing! The milk chocolate and scoilattio (pretty sure I butchered the spelling) are super tasty! . Who knew joy could come wrapped up in candy memories? I had been meaning to go to Powell's in San Jose for the longest time, and was surprised that my first ever experience would happen in Paso Robles. It was like candy paradise. A dentist's nightmare! Every kinda of candy, everywhere you looked. I could see how kids could use this store as revenge on their parents. Bouncing of the walls after a visit, having gunk stuck in between their teeth. I mean, how could you go wrong? Old school candy, new school, gelato classico, gummy everything, even DUFF beer! It was so delightful. I felt like a true kid in a candy store. Really cool candy shop that has everything sweet you can think of. They have gelato, chocolate, fudge, chocolate covered everything, novelty candies and novelty drinks. Lots of new and old school candies too. I didn't want to get too crazy with all the sugar so I held back and only got two Calypso drinks and a handful of small candy. I strolled in to @PowellsShoppe out of curiosity and was instantly snagged in the lure they have in front of the entrance...the gelato counter. The nice young man who helped us and let us try a number of samples also gave us a little background on the gelato they carry, from local producer Leo Leo Gelato. The @LeoLeoGelato is killer, especially the spicy Mexican Chocolate when paired with something as a counterpoint like the salted caramel. That's what my wife ordered and I coveted even as I enjoyed my chocolate and pistachio combo. Sadly more people pay top dollar a few doors down for chain ice cream at Stone Cold Steve Austins Creamery (or something like that) when there is great gelato produced in Paso nearby. read more
