This general store is just adorable. I come every single Christmas and I always find something to purchase. Usually a lot of little somethins to purchase. If you go around the holiday time, just know that the store is quite busy. It doesn't take away from the experience at all and the employees are super friendly and helpful and the line to purchase your goods moves quickly. The products force purchase are of wonderful quality and there's definitely something for everyone there. I definitely will be back again and again. read more

The outside of the store almost beckons you in and once you're in, you just want to buy allll the cute things! The store is replete with unique finds, California "vibes" - picture trucker hats with "Paso Robles" on the front, leather coasters, artwork, greeting cards, artisanal spices and oils, dish towels, and so so much more! All of these things together, made me want to just run away and travel the entire coast of California in an old-timey Airstream....with all the things from this store to decorate it. But....because I can't do that yet - I oogled, touched, smelled, and marveled, instead. I did leave with a hand-cobbled (?) copper bell for my front porch (picture coming soon) so that I can at least fantasize about the California Coast from my porch at home :) Bliss! read more

I love this store. It's always a definite to stop by and pick something up. Perfect for gifts or souvenirs to remind you of wine country. The selection they carry varies from homeware, apparel, food, gifts and so on. Everything you see it's a need. Of course, I alway have to pick up my pickles. It's a tradition now whenever I'm here. The minute I walked into this store I felt unwelcome. I should have turned around but I didn't. Figured I was misreading the vibe . Guess I wasn't. The woman with the triangle tattoo above her elbow made me feel uncomfortable. When I walked in she did not greet me. Soon after I walked in, 3 young light skinned girls walked in and she was very friendly and welcoming. Yes, I'm brown. This woman DID NOT keep her eyes off me. She made me feel lunwelcome and uncomfortable. Her eyes followed me through the store and still she did not say anything to me. I did buy a few things though and really should't have. I wanted to buy the 4 vintage coupes, but did not want to spend any more money purely out of feeling unwelcome in this store. The other woman working there was also staring but not as bad as Ms. Triangle tattoo. The other woman ended up ringing me up and was a tad bit friendlier. She did ask how my day was going, while Ms. Triangle tattoo wrapped up my items. She left them on the counter and walked away. I won't be back to this store ever again. Read previous reviews, sounds like this is not the first time the staff has made customer's feel uncomfortable. Aside from this they have cute stuff. UPDATE***One of the store owners called and apologized for my experience. I do appreciate that the owner called. Honestly because the owner called I'll visit again. This store has come a long way from when it first open. Lots of unique and creative gifts with a wine and Paso Robles theme making for great birthday or appreciation gifts. The workers are very nice and helpful as well. Parking is so much better now that they removed the meters!!! read more

Where do all the visitors go? Well., smack dab in the center of Paso is the General Store. There were a few noticeable traits of this store. First and foremost, they patronize the local crafters and suppliers. AT least 75% of the merchandise is Paso made. Second, the staffing is off the charts. As busy as they were, they always have time for a pleasant smile and courtesy and will go out of their way to help you find your hidden treasure. Third, in this day of cost cutting, they still package your purchase without question. They have a gift wrap set up also. And the best about the packaging is there is no additional charge. I'm instantly curious about any business called a General Store; the possibility of finding treasures, both necessities & novelties, almost always lures me in & General Store Paso Robles did just that. After perusing the shop in one big circle with me, my bf made this observation: this is, indeed, a store for women. I mean he isn't wrong, just like his hardware & auto parts stores are what I'd consider "for guys." Sure, these stores can be for everyone but I'm sure he wasn't as taken with the candles & tote bags as I was. I especially love their paper products: greeting cards, stickers, small art prints & walked away with some great purchases. Before leaving to sit on a bench outside, my bf did hand me gourmet vanilla marshmallows he wanted to try which ended up being flavorless, but his attempt at participating in one of my favorite hobbies was adorable. Wanted to come here after listening to the ladies on Adam Monteil's Up Adam podcast (highly recommend!). All kinds of fun Paso-related goodies and gifts. The gals that work there are so helpful and pleasant to chat with. I dropped some money buying cute gifts and other items that just "called out to me and said you need me!" What a fun little shopping venue on the central park square. I'll definitely return the next time I'm in town. read more

OMG I love this store! Walked in not knowing what to expect. Walked out with items that I didn't know that I needed. There is a price range for every type of item. Thoughtfully curated, you can find local gifts as well as gifts for most occasions. When I was here, there was a woman selling repurposed flannel plaid shirts - for lack of a better word. She dyes them and they have a lived-in, vintage feel. My friend bought a magenta-themed one, I believe they run about $55? As for myself I bought some Spanish wine glasses. They were on the smaller side, modern and stackable. Only $3 each I believe. Also found a brightly colored kitchen scrubber for $2. The customer service was attentive and friendly. A gift shop full of local Paso Robles products, aka the one stop shop for souvenirs to bring home that isn't wine. As one of the main stores immediately around Paso Robles' Downtown City Park, it's convenient if you're already in the area for a meal or a wine tasting. Or even if you just parked around here because of all the available street parking, including the diagonal street parking around the Park. If you saw something you regret not getting or want to restock after finding you really like a spicy, body product, or tea there, you can also buy it online. Not everything is available on the website though, including their puzzles. The store itself has a big selection of artful and unique puzzles in a dedicated corner and we absolutely descended upon them. They seemed to make a point of having one of each kind of puzzle on display, so if you want more than one, you need to ASK one of the employees if they have more and can get it from the back. I say this puzzle that's a collage of different noodles in Bangkok and was told it has been pretty popular. Would recommend dropping by if you're looking for any additional souvenirs. Especially if you weren't interested in or have already gotten wine. This is where you get the souvenir mug, paraphernalia like sweaters or caps, or local books you're looking for, and you'll also find games (like puzzles), jewelry and scarves, stationery, coffee and tea, sweets, spices, charcuterie stuff (yum), kitchenware, bath and body products, etc. They seem to be busier on Sundays as that's when everyone is doing their last bit of shopping before heading home. So expect more people and closer contact there around then. Overall, would recommend coming here if you're visiting town. Everything was such nice quality, even the bag they put our purchase in. However, I refuse to spend a dime in a store that does not acknowledge customers but instead chats with friends or employees behind the counter. That's a shame. It features a nice selection of beauty products, pantry items, books, cards, and other locally made goods. We needed to buy a card for a wedding, and this place had a nice selection. I found a nice one and picked it up, then looked around at the other offerings. We weren't in the market for other gift items right then, but I enjoyed browsing. I particularly appreciated the puzzle section, as well as a table display devoted to dog-themed items. Fantastic store, some sort of mini- Anthropologie. All locally made goodies or from around California. I really liked the collection of baskets (not sure if those were 'that' local, as they seemed Latin American as per the colors and styles) and extensive books on sale, mostly about boho lifestyle and all beautiful things.
