I actually used to work for Marcia, the owner, about 8 years ago in the back bar (Club 202). Anyways, my friend Graig and I needed to get together and we immediately decided on pizza, I suggested Slammers, Graig got excited and 15 minutes later..... We got a great greeting by Summer, the bartender. She got our drinks, placed our order and before we knew it - hot steaming pizza! It had been years since I'd had a Slammers pizza but it was still a good as ever. They've still got their pizza mojo. We got the large pepperoni with it's thin crust with a little corn meal on the bottom. They give you a decent amount of pepperoni and cheese, lightly sauced. It tastes great, flavors are awesome, no complaints. My beer was cold, Graig said his Cosmo was perfectly done. Clientele was 20's and 30's, almost all women, just a few of us guys. We took a table in the corner of the bar as we are always respectful of the fact that there are few Lesbian spaces ( Slammers, Blazers, Wall Street ) in town. I will say that we were made to feel welcome and Summer took great care of us. They have a juke box, a large patio, plenty of seating and a really nice long bar. Their pizzas are among the best in Columbus but they have other great Italian foods on the menu. Marcia is 1st generation Italian and she knows her Italian food. Besides Wall Street this is my favorite gay bar. I know there's Union and Level ect ect but I like the "Cheers" like vibe it has. There are a few pool tables in the back and a jukebox that is filled with awesome choices for just hanging out, playing pool or whatever. They also have Jell-O shots. You had me at jello. There's also pretty decent bar food here( the pizzas are good if your not needing to watch your waistline There's also a sizable fenced in patio which creates a cozy ambiance. The crowd here is hit or miss...like most gay/lesbian bars. Meaning it can be completely packed or a ghost town. I do like that the age range varies. In many other cities, lesbian clubs tend to weigh heavy on one side of the scale of the other...it's a nice mix here. The service is also inconsistent, but usually alright. Pizza is very tasty and pours are decent. Pool, electronic darts, corn hole and a good amount of seating room. They had live music last night and she drew a good size crowd (which is always nice for an extrovert like me). I had been wanting to try Slammers forever. We just had some philosophical differences. You see, to me, pizza night is Tuesday night. To Slammers, Tuesday night is a night to be closed. So, when I found myself in need of Za on a Friday, I jumped at the opportunity. Slammers is a great bar with a very local, neighborhood feel inside. Service was fantastic and friendly. The pizza here is Ohio style, with thin, crispy crust and edge to edge toppings. The crust is somewhat dense, so, while crisp, it isn't crackery or airy. The toppings were all top notch. The sauce shows off tart notes, which complemented the spicy kick of the peps just fine. I'm thrilled that I finally got to try Slammers. I'm sure I'll be back to enjoy the atmosphere of this bar. Pizza is A-OK and definitely worth a try. read more

First of all, Slammers gets five stars for being a lady queer bar which is EXCELLENT in my opinion. Had dinner and drinks, with the intention of staying a little while--ended up staying for at least three hours. Unlike dive bars I've been too, this one had a pergola and fairy lights (A+). Drinks were reasonably priced in the $5-9 range and service was quick, even with a gaggle of folx trying for service. Their patio area featured live dj and dancing, along with corn hole and tons of seating, which is such a nice change. I wish indy still had lady bars--this was a gem that I wouldn't mind going back to. read more

I know this is a lesbian bar but damn, they got some hot bartenders and make really good pizza. This place makes a really good thin crust pizza with cornmeal underneath their crust. If you want to try their pizza for free, I believe they have free slices on wednesday night. The main reasons why I come here are their 6 dollar domestic pitchers and the hot trivia girl that comes here twice a week. Even though she might be a lesbian, I would still hit on her hardcore and she will keep leading me on. Her trivias run a little longer than most places though. After 8 or 9 PM, this place turns really butch and that's my cue to leave. Slammers is a dive bar but it's affordable for being a downtown option and the atmosphere is chill. One of the best deals in town is their Tuesday night happy hour - $10 gets you a small 1 topping pizza and 4 domestic bottles of beer (bud, bud light, miller light...) It's a great night to grab a few friends, some pizza and beer, play some pool, or cornhole on the patio, or the Wii up front, and just chill after a long day of work. I personally don't care for Slammer's when it's crowded; too small and claustrophobic, and if the music is that loud, I'd rather be on the dance floor somewhere, so I avoid it on weekends, but during the week, it's a perfectly relaxed neighborhood type of gay bar. read more

It's small and seldom crowded. There is ample patio seating (including reserved room for cornhole). The juke box fits the atmosphere and the patrons (think Journey and Melissa Etheridge).The drinks are cheap and the bartenders are friendly. On more than one occasion, I have been under the credit card minimum and the bartenders make my drinks on the house. Slammers is perfect for summer nights, especially Tuesday-Thursday. It is a very laid back bar that appears to draw many locals or people who all know one another. Although known for being the only lesbian bar in Columbus, it still draws guys and girls and is very welcoming to all. Pros: Bartenders and manager/owner have been there for years and do a great job making it a clean and smoke-free bar that also serves pizza and other food items. There is an fenced in outdoor area for smokers and people who want to relax in a patio area and some Weekend's have live music and other nights have a dj. It has a very casual feel and a hole in the wall appearance and no frills of today's trendy bars and clubs, which isn't a bad thing. This is a great place to hangout and talk with friends or a date. Cons: If there is no live music, the crowd is usually low compare to other bars and clubs, so if you want to sit and talk then this is your place, but if you want more activity and people, you'll have to go elsewhere. After giving this a 4 star review I went back on a Saturday night and it seemed like they just stopped trying. It was dead. Yes there can be nights that things just don't happen but, as a bar, you have to give the basics to the people to make it fun. First: Music. They have a jukebox but you can't depend on the customers to fill the jukebox with money to provide the music. Not our job to create the basic ambiance. There has to be a backup system that when people haven't fed the jukebox music is played. Walk into a big bar on a Saturday night with no people and there's no music it doesn't make you want to stay and hang out. This place has been here forever and the lack of effort and complacency shows. Maybe have special nights to draw the crowds in? Sometimes I pass by here and make a stop. This is Downtown's neighborhood lesbian bar, err, make that Columbus' neighborhood lesbian bar (yes, there's Blazer's, but that more in the dive category though it's also a Short North staple). The food I've had here was unremarkable and just as good/bland as a number of downtown restaurants serving up blasé food for a similarly tasteless clientele (downtown office workers). I hear that the pizza is what you should order here. Despite being male, and even going here once with male friends, I was never made to feel unwelcome. There's also cheap beer and pool, which is always a good combo. As for any curious, prospective lesbian patrons, the regulars are more of the stereotypical butch set in their 20s and up. read more

I love Slammer's pizza. Would go way more often except for my allergy to driving anywhere near downtown, which I only do willingly if I am fighting a traffic ticket. So, anytime I know someone I know is going anywhere near there, I have them pick me up a pizza. Last time I sent a gentleman well into his seventies and err, did not happen to describe the type of establishment this was. As it turned out, he didn't notice, lol. My very favorite thing about Marcia's pizza is that it is understood that just because you happen to want a white pizza this does not mean no sauce! What a concept.
